Taj Bar & Kitchen in South Ayrshire

Visited Friday night. Had a Tandoori Chicken.. missus had tikka. We usually have a side dish with our curries... like an Aloo Gobi, Bindhi Bhaji or Saag Paneer. They don't do side dishes here at all. Only rice or bread. The waitress had no idea what I meant. The tandoori dishes in the north come with some bland sauce and rice. The chicken dishes were tasteless tbh. We asked for some raitha for the tandoori dishes..mint yogurt sauce. We were given a huge bowl of it for £4.25 instead of a few tablespoons in a ramikin which is what we used to get here. The Taj used to be my favourite Indian Restaurant. I will not return here.

Wasn’t overly impressed the first time I ate here as I found the “madras” strength dish I ordered was too hot so I couldn’t taste anything else so I think they have a tendency to over chilli (so order the phall at your peril) but that’s not to say the food isn’t good - this time I ordered the korma (no chilli) pilau rice and plain naan and it was all 11/10 - even the paneer had a nice texture to it as opposed to the pre-packed rubbery stuff that is often lazily served - if they could offer a few green finger chillies on a plate then I like to sprinkle the seeds into my food sometimes which gives it a nice bite but not too much then that would be good - music was also really good normally I like the full Bollywood experience but the compilation of acid jazz covers playing this day was very chill

AVOID AVOID Ordered the set meal for 2 last night. Absolutely disgusted. The price for set meal was £27.95 and delivery ended up costing £37.05 in total. , a ridiculous cost for a 7 mile journey costing £9.10. Delivery charge. After being ripped off for that. The pakora was rock hard and burnt stupid . This went in the bin as it was inedible. The main courses were Chicken tikka masala and chicken curry. Chicken was tough the 2 sauces were identical and so watery . I ate 2 spoonfuls of the tikka and have been ill all day with a very upset tummy. 😡. It's the worst food i have ever had . NEVER EVER will I order or use this restaurant. It all went in the bin, unfit to eat. What a waste of 37 quid. Please avoid and save your money 💰 🤑.

The service as always was perfect, the staff are polite, friendly but professional, they are always helpful in adapting the menus to suit your needs. Would definitely recommend the Taj Bar & Kitchen in Prestwick, well worth a try. Thanks again Carly for your assistance in adapting my meal.

We used to eat in for years but now that we have a dog we ordered a take away on Saturday. Really sad to say that we were really disappointed. The fish pakora was miniscule, the Taj special curry was tough and had to order rice separately. Also, the poppadoms were smashed to pieces. We don't live in Prestwick but stay over several times a year and really look forward to a meal from Taj but sad to say this time it was very average

I have been going to the Taj since 1989 and have been many many times for sit in meals, takeaways, buffets and family celebrations all bring back happy memories of great food and vibes including great service from owners and staff. I have not been back since a few years and what a shock i got the inside is nice and modern but the indian vibes are no more, gone are the feelings of walking into the old Taj and being transported into a true authentic indian palace . The food was bland and tasteless in small portion dishes with big prices where were the old Taj flavours that burst with flavour that made you enjoy and savour every mouthful and made you crave for more and the never ending portion size that gave your stomach that gut busting feeling .Its all gone downhill now and it chills me to the bone to say that at one point it was my Best ever indian restaurant but now when i left the only feeling i had was the bad after taste of the curry sauce they prepaired and my thoughts of having roasted cheese and toast to fill that empty spot when returning home .

We were here New Year’s Day and also for my daughters birthday and will always come food and service is always first class

Ordered food for takeaway on Christmas Eve. Six people sharing three curries. One of curries was shared by myself and another. We both got sick after eating it, ruining Christmas Day. The effects of this got worse and it turns out we have e.coli poisoning from the food. I am currently off work with a months course of antibiotics and morphine pills for my infected intestine.

Didn't eat just had coffee. Looks to be a busy place, which tells you alot. Service was good and the coffee was nice 👌

Christmas Eve meal for our family of four. Service was very efficient but not intrusive! Food was excellent: my mixed grill with Jatti sauce was amazing! Thoroughly enjoyable pre-Christmas meal. Can’t recommend the Taj, Prestwick high enough.

Ordered a takeaway. Collected on time,but buy the time we worked out what was in all 7 containers it was cold.they need to label what's in containers.far to much sause not enough chicken nan bread terrible.never order a takeaway from there again

The last couple of takeaways were just never the same .until tonight I haven’t visited for months in the hope of different chefs etc . We will never use again the chicken pakora was disgusting hard and funky taste . The curry’s were absolutely tasteless tasted of tomato blend on both curry’s . Rice over powered tasting of cloves and the garlic Nan which I paid extra for had no taste what so ever. What has happened to the old taj ? :(

never again! staff were cheeky when I got tepid basmati Rice all blown out of proportion by the waiter! the whole point of eating out is reputation of the place and the food that's served personally i didnt want to eat in there as i don't like indian meals but i was with guests so did not want to ruffle the feathers of the birthday girl!... never again!

This is the second awful takeaway experience from the Taj( A few years ago this place was the best Indian in Ayrshire..not now) Butter Chicken bright pink , very little meat and runny-bore no resemblance to butter chicken …. Vegetarian paneer dish was so hot that it was inedible…no mention of this on the menu ! Over £60 for a poor quality takeaway-our last visit!

It pains me to write this poor review of what used to be a fantastic restaurant. The service was mediocre at best. The floor was covered in crushed popadoms and spilled food. But my main issue was quite frankly the shameful amount of meat in my main meal. I had 4 small lumps of lamb in my curry. Also, the sauce on my curry was identical to my starter & was terribly sweet. Had been artificially sweetened with huge amounts of sugar. It’s not often myself & my family go out for a full meal. But we spent & significant amount of money and left feeling underwhelmed & upset. Hopefully this experience is a one off. But unfortunately i will be very sceptical to return here as it is an expensive restaurant and there are other Indian restaurants that may offer better quality. As I said above. It upsets me to give this review as I used to highly rate this restaurant. But sadly I feel the quality has gone downhill.

Lovely food very enjoyable even got a discount on our main course that we didn't know about happens on a Wednesday will visit again soon.

Popped in again for our second time. came down from Glasgow just to try again to see if it was as good as the first time. We weren't let down. Amazing food and service. We commented to the girl that served us that it was probably one of the best Indian restaurants i’ve been in. The food was outstanding The girl who served us was very attentive and pleasant. Incredible Indian food! Probably the best Indian I’ve had coming from Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 Great veggie options! I ordered the Aloo Gobi, pakoras and samosas. I do wish it came with samosas. Very tasteful and quick delivery. Loved the spicy onion sauce it came with too👌🏼

Ordered from the set meal menu, (15 portions). Great choices, assisted by Taj staff member, Carly. I wanted to serve the meals buffet style. We all had plenty of food. Very tasty. All made fresh for pick-up. Many thanks!

Got a carry out + ordered the set meal for 3 people x2 Unfortunately I was charged for 6 individual meals at a significant cost Upon raising the matter I was assured I'd be called back with an apology + have the bill rectified This NEVER happened+ I am extremely disappointed in the service received Now I won't eat/order from them again + I will tell everyone who will listen about my experience Poor service, poor communication + a very expensive dinner for what we received The portions were smaller as is normal in the set meals

Have been going to the Taj for a number of years and found it very good , in recent years it has been a bit of a hit or miss but last night's carry out for two was the last time for me food portion was as good as ever but the taste was not acceptable very little spice and flavour,could have been from a jar that I could have done myself,last time for us after a lot of years of very enjoyable food.

The food was excellent, and the portions were larger than some restaurants. Service and atmosphere were very good. Top tip. 1 portions or naan bread is enough for 2 people. If you can not finish your meal because you're stuffed,they will box it up for you to take away. Limited parking is nearby, but if you park by or near the station, the walk will be good after the meal.

Good evening, I had a carry out this evening 19 July 2023. The vegetable pakora was in edible I wouldn’t give it to my dogs! Get your act together.

Just popped in for a couple of rounds of drinks with friends. 4 drinks for £16 not bad at all. Next time in Prestwick we will dine in and try the food . The prices are good. The place got very busy just after we sat down.

Well what can I say, we are up from Essex and came here two nights in a row. My partner himself owns a indian restaurant in Essex so this is the highest of compliments he came here twice! Food was delicious and staff all very friendly. Thank you. (Ps he wanted to make a a 3rd night tonight) lol

NEVER AGAIN! utterly disgusting 4 chicken curries MMM? and a dessert well! if you can call it dessert.. a frozen cake with a cherry on top!..looked like one of the white coconut sponge cakes from the co-op years ago and just as hard Frozen!!.... spoke to them about it and the waitress she just looked at me as if i was stupid! never again!... waste of money!

Ordered a mixed pakora platter for 2 for starters, absolutely disgusting!! Platter was full of cauliflower and the odd piece of haggis, didn't taste any chicken whatsoever. Didn't wait for my main meal, got up, and paid for what I had, didn't take the chance on having my main meal. When I paid the bill I was told there was 5 pieces of shredded chicken on it, who uses shredded chicken for pakora??? Paid my bill for a lager shandy, 1 glass of soda water and lime, the platter, and the poppadoms, spiced onions, £24!! Total rip off, avoid like the plague!!

Went for a Christmas night out it was really busy but the food came out perfect! The young staff looked stressed but were really good at there jobs! A got tandoori mix grill with South Indian sauce - highly recommend. Definitely will be back

Have used the Taj for over 40 years without issue. Recently, however, the take away orders have been wrong more often than they are correct. I drive from Hollybush to collect the order and when I get back home I find at least one part of my order is wrong. Not conducive to driving back to Prestwick. My order is the same every week and still it is not correct. The new till ordering system may not have buttons for a specific item but if this is the case then a note should go to the kitchen specifying the order that was placed. Food is always great when you get what you ordered and sit in is impeccable. So disappointed at writing this review but something has to be done to correct these errors.

My sister and my self had a beautiful meal at Taj on Saturday 10/12/22 service good and nice clean friendly atmosphere was fantastic and the band I didn't expect that they were good we will be back fully recommend Taj thank you for a nice night

Was here for work night out recently. Food was delicious and service was excellent. Big thanks to our waitress Carly for taking care of our team

The food was ok but the service was so poor, every course of food was whipped away before we finished, this was despite saying we were still eating. We were on a girly night out so wanted to chat, while eating - we felt quite pressurised into leaving despite the restaurant having lots of free tables. I used to love the Taj but won’t be rushing back sadly ……

Well worth the drive from Blantyre, food was phenomenal and reasonably priced and the staff were great.

Taj food is definitely not as good as it used to be. Flavours unenjoyable and pakora dry, asked for chicken and definitely didn’t look like chicken pakora. Won’t be back.

Went yesterday 24th Sept exact opposite of previous visit main tepid garlic naan dry what's happened? Not going back no excuse think meal sitting in kitchen before deciding to serve.

First visit to this establishment and was quite impressed. The place is bigger than it looks, very well decorated and pleasant. Staff friendly and helpful with a professional air about them. Added to my list of places to eat. Had the Tiffin experience and was very good.

Had a lovely meal again tonight! Staff are fantastic...friendly, nicely attentive and knowledgeable. There is a nice ambience in the restaurant and bar. Our food was really good and l love that you can have a tiffin size smaller portion. We could not fault our last few visits...the mince paratha..simply the best we have ever tasted and chicken shashlik was delicious. We are 30 miles away and that will never stop us going back!
