I used to love buffets . . no more. I love Asian food, but this was truly not nice. It did not resemble anything that I have come to associate with Asian food. Yes, it is a cheap buffet, but you are better off buying a sandwich at the local 7-11.

Great value for money...all you can eat Buffet for 10.50 pounds..soup, appetizers, crispy duck pancake station, 14 main dishes 2 rices 3 noodles! Food is not 100% gourmet, but better than most take aways..but for the price, cannot be beat...drinks are a little expensive, but water is free. Nice dessert station as well. Dining room is very basic, but your there for the food and not the atmosphere. If you like a formal dining room, they have an upstairs restaurant that will take care of this wish for you!

All Allergens Alert, ALL of them are here. Sustain businesses and keep safe. Whole peanuts are next to the chili oil. Where- take a left from Elephant and Castle tube, past the empanada emporium and another foodie kiosk, down the left side iron stairs and go in at the French doors on your right. Pay cash upfront at the till, as at October 2018, it is £9.95 evening buffet, lunch very slightly less. There is plenty of leg room for tall diners, widely spaced large round tables can seat six, there are 4 seater tables and "date night" 2 people tables. Anyone who is anyone eats here, from hi-vis jacketed squads to families with toddlers, suited and booted, the vast student demographic. Pushchairs will be a struggle, papooses perfect because of the stairs. Or bring a whole doting "Team Baby" to help. I like the lighting in this basement which is even, bright and warmed by the deep apricot painted walls. There is no draught from the air con. When there is music it is low level mellow oriental pop in the Enrique Iglesias style or re-purposed oriental folk, possibly. Signature dish is a no holds barred slabs of chunky beef shin "curry". It tastes of complex spices, sometimes you will see and scoop up by mistake a finger sized woody curl of cassia bark or a whole chunk of ginger. Try a little of the sauce before you commit meat to your plate, my view is that if you adore star anise and cinnamon in mains courses it will suit your palate. It may be the chef's own spice blend, as it does not totally resemble chinese five-spice or massaman malay curry. I like going with an Afro or Pinoy kare kare vibe by having this topped with the crunchy PEANUT satay sauce and Shito-like grainy chili oil. There are sweet potato fritters on offer next to the fat chips. Whether you like melty soft meat or a tussle with bouncy meat, you can check and choose by a gentle prod with the serving spoon as both types are often in the same serving dish. You can also break off small chunks, to give you eating space for the other dishes. You still get to eat beef on black bean, always. The Duck - currently, the skin on bone in duck looks like a gentle roast crossed with a slight braise. It lets the flavour come through, with mild seasoning. Decadence is choosing an unmeaty piece and placing just the skin on your chinese pancake before rolling up. There is also also pulled duck for the pancakes in the evening. Duck two ways for under a tenner, guys. Chicken - deep fried in mild dredged flour, stir fried, in jammy sweet and sour, sometimes with black bean . Mackerel on-the bone cuts, is quite chili-hot, beware what looks like spring onion may be green chili. Prawns are deep fried po-boy style with a puffy succulent batter. The evening gives you prawns two ways, adding headless but shell-on saltnpepper prawns. The special fried rice is my personal simple favourite, something to hoover down knowing that there is duck, chicken EGG and char shiu pork with plump peas . Easygoing vegetarians can have a goodish time, mushrooms and the rustic haloumi-like stolid tofu are treated like honorary meats, flavourful. I'm with the former President Bush regarding broccoli. Currently, there is a one raw veg at-a-time policy, if you discount the daily julienne of cucumbers and spring onions. One day I saw quartered tomatoes, another day I saw finely grated fresh carrot. If you take all three and the two or three different mixed stir fried vegetables, that is a respectable choice. You can go PEANUT satay, sweet and sour, curry or even ketchup and mayo with your plate. You style it. There is fresh apple and orange for dessert, with jewel-like dazzling little stripey gelatine jelly ( definitely not vegan agar agar). Just one piece of chilled SESAME brittle cased apple is enough of a sugar hit for me to end all my splendid times here.

I have been passed this venue a few times recently and was determined to try the buffet restaurant element. As other reviewers have said not the best location but perfectly fine for me. In order to stay within my £15 meal allowance I’m always on the lookout for good value decent quality eating establishments. The price here is £9.99 for the buffet which includes iced water. The selection isn’t huge but it is replenished on a regular basis to keep it fresh. In fact the duck for the pancake rolls is reasonably chunky rather than shredded to a fine powder. Definitely not the worst buffet Chinese restaurant I have been to in London if you are looking for value this might be worth a try.

Despite its inauspicious surroundings this noodle bar remains one of the better eateries in the area. The food is nothing special but is consistently satisfactory. The menu is substantial enough and is favourably priced for the area. It is counter service and your dish arrives quite quickly after ordering. If you have been bowling next door this is a much better option than the ghastly lane food. However, please note that the premises remains cash only.

The exterior of this is dirty and not the most enticing advert for a restaurant. I love noodles, the restaurant say they do noodle bar, so I went in. The layout of the restaurant is indeed much like a noodle bar. Think Wagamama. It really isn't that difficult to cook a street food style bowl of noodle soup. I got the a vegetarian noodle soup. The soup was bland and the noodle looked like it had come out of a pack of instant noodles and cooked for too long. The counter staff are surly and unfriendly. Not even a smile. Payment is cash only. If you're still trying to imagine what this restaurant is like, then think Wagamama without the friendly staff, imaginative noodles, tasty soups and spices. Overall, it's just over-priced street food. The one good thing is the extensive menu, so you might just find something acceptable. Please give a helpful vote if you found this review useful.

It's another warm day with a breeze but inside Tai Tip Mein it was like a oven! Many clients were mopping their brows. I went in just after 12 noon, opening time. I ordered #33 Fried noodles with mixed meats and Chinese tea. The noodles were ok but a bit tasteless, I sprinkled on soy sauce to give it some sort of flavour. The mixed meats were even more disappointing, chicken was spongy, the pork & beef overcooked and hard ( recooked from the day before?) The tea was not the usual light clear green colour, it was orange and murky. I did mention it to waitress who came to clear table, but she had a fixed grin on her face & I don't think understood a word I said, she just walked away! A very disappointing lunch, that's my last visit there.

If you don't want to pay £1.80 for a glass of coke the water with ice is free and refillable. I like to get the Chinese tea which is also refillable. Alarm bells were ringing when charged £8 (where can you get an all you can eat buffet in London at T time for £8?) I was desperate to put food in me though before a big night out and time was running out so.....The place was a run down dive, really no effort has been made to make this place look nice and although it wasn't visably dirty you got the impression if you looked hard enough you'd find a corner a filth! The staff all look like they're planning to throw themselves under an Elephant and castle tube and having to work in this place perhaps they are? The other customers eating in this place looked homeless and the women sat oppsite me had two suitcases and a large back pack so im assuming she was! One fat chap in his 30's who im assuming was with his Mum kept trying to stare me out. Perhaps he seen me as a rival to his food as I went up for my second plate. The food itself was dull and tastless the noodles actualy tasted of mould im quite surprised I never got food poisoning! Then to the toliets.. here is a top tip to this resaurant if you're going to have mouse traps don't insult our intelligence by hiding them under a piece of bog roll! If your mice problem is so bad you have to have these out during the day I suggest you shouldn't be open at all.

This place has just got worse and worse each time I visit - ok it was never a 5 star restaurant but at least it was somewhere you could get good value for money. The staff get lazier and lazier each time I visit they sit around the restaurant eating the all you can buffet that is meant for paying guests and when actually look at the small amount of food on offer it isn't really acceptable that staff sit there eating it. The food is always very visibly the food that has been sat out for many many hours - dry, tasteless and it leaves you feeling horribly bloated (and i don't eat that much)...It seems that as the business becomes quieter and quieter they just up the price to compensate for this.....Honestly there is a chinese restaurant 2 mins walk part of a row of shops adjacent to Mamushka which is probably one of the best chinese take aways iv ever been too.Pay the extra across the road you will be glad you did.

I have eaten in this restaurant several times over the past few years; alone, with friends, with family. So, whenever I am in this area and feel hungry, I go and eat here. When I first went there several years ago, the average price for a portion used to be around 4 pounds but now it is over six pounds. But still I do not consider this to be expensive in that you have to be a heavy eater to finish one dish! They don't serve you the best tasting Chinese meal here, however, I and the people I went with have never left any food in the plate! It is in a convenient location and can be pretty busy. Thus, staff are very busy and surely not very polite and helpful. I am okay with that as long as I get what I ask for. Drinks are quite expensive; I think that is the case for every restaurant in the UK. A bottle of wine costs just over 10 quid, which I think is not too bad. But if you order wine by the glass, it works out much more expensive.

We've eaten in this place for more than 10 years, ever since it was at its old location (demolished to build the Strata Tower). The food was excellent, great value for money, and the place was absolutely packed. Then it moved to its current - bigger - location at the Elephant and Castle shopping centre, and initially it retained its old food quality. But, little by little, it started cutting back in service and the noodle dishes started having mostly noodles and little else. On 10th April, we had our usual dishes, and again although the noodle portions were as huge as ever, the pieces of meat were almost non-existent. The fruit juice and the coke were watered down and didn't taste fresh, and a visit to the toilet revealed a huge drop in the standards of cleanliness, with red stains - blood? - on the floor of a female cubicle. I noticed uncomfortably that although it was dinner time, the place was almost empty, and I felt uneasy having just eaten there. Surely enough, within two hours of the meal, although I was OK, my partner became violently sick with bloody diarrhoea. He ended up to the hospital's urgent care unit, where the doctor confirmed food poisoning and gave him antibiotics and anti-nausea drugs. He lost a day's work and he was feeling fatigued. A really bad ending to what used to be a great noodle-bar.
