Taal Indian Restaurant in South Lanarkshire

No idea why it’s taken me so long to post this review as it was absolutely gorgeous! And one of the best Indian meals I’ve ever ever had. Last Monday me my partner, dad & his partner visited Taal in Carluke. If you know me you know I absolutely adore Indian food so I was soo excited for this! First of all the decor in here is just stunning, I want this flower ceiling in my house 😂 I went for the chicken chasni with rice & peshwari naan bread & chips. This is honestly the best chasni I’ve ever tasted - it was just so creamy and had so so much chicken in it! The rice was lovely and chips were nice and crispy. The peshwarri naan was honestly just amazing, super sweet I couldn’t put it down 😋 My partner and dad had the mixed grill platter which also was so tasty! You get to pick an Indian sauce to go on the side with this so it’s super good value for money! And you get rice with most meals. The prawns looked so so tasty too! One thing about in here is all the curries are cooked without any colourings, so they all look the exact same which is super weird as usually chasni you expect a bright red curry! Tastes the exact same though (if not better!) Definitely get yourself down here if you stay anywhere near Carluke, and if you don’t it’s definitely worth the journey!

Ordered a takeaway for family. Worst meal I've had in a long time. Bland and tasteless and although we all ordered different things they all looked and tasted the same. Not cheap either. What a waste of money. We'll never be back

Bland food. Lamb so tough we needed steak knives to cut it. 2 different dishes but both looked and tasted the same. Only good thing was the fast service.

Amazing restaurant in Braidwood with lovely and helpful staff. We always enjoy our food & drinks here, then going through to the bar area to chill. One of the best out there 👏🏻

1st time visiting Taal and I wasn't disappointed, the restaurant is lovely and the service amazing, everyone was super helpful and friendly. The food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious, I couldn't eat all mine so I've got the leftovers home to scoff tomorrow. Fantastic value for money too. Perfect place for a date night or dinner with friends, there is even a wee bar area where you could sit and have a cocktail. Can't wait to go back!!

We have been to Taal for different occasions. Birthdays, with friends, with family and we've never had a bad experience. The owners and staff make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in. And the smell is amazing! Service is always quick and friendly whether we are dining in or collecting an order. Nothing is too much for them. The menu has loads of choice, including vegetarian and vegan options. Every dish is presented well and the food is always 10/10! Portion sizes are great and can be taken away if you don't finish. I have a very fussy teenager and even she loves the food, which is definitely a sign of a great restaurant!

Ordered food for home delivery. Took an hour to arrive. The food was TERRIBLE. Chicken in both the Korma and Boohna was chewy and inedible, and you could feel how tough it was trying to cut through it with a knife and had to be binned, all the food was cold and they forgot to deliver the drinks we ordered. For an order not much sort of £50 this was unacceptable. We will most definitely not be back. For either sit in or takeaway.

Delicious and plentiful portions. The menu was a delight, and to see different options not found on every other Indian restaurant menu was great. The pashwari naan was full of flavour, but so light and well baked. The chicken with the blended spinach curry sauce was a delicious alternative to the chicken palak found elsewhere, I'm still thinking about it a few weeks on 😊😋 The staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely try and visit again in the future when in the area visiting friends

First time we tried Carluke having eaten in Strathaven many times. The food was as good, if not better. Can’t wait for the next time

Couldn't have possibly asked for a better meal and service from the staff. Were very accommodating towards my (challenging) dietary requirements, and the food was absolutely out-of-this-world, paired with quick and friendly staff who were on the ball the whole night. Definetely a standout restaurant in the area, and worth going to for a high-quality meal and experience!

We visited (second time) for my Birthday at the weekend, and shall return as often as possible. The food is delightful, and of far greater quality than your usual takeaway. The Indian Vegetables are certainly worth a try - and my firm favourite - as nowhere else has the cojones, to serve (better than) the normal peas and cauliflower. The starters, main and desserts are full of flavour, and of portions fit for a King: from beginning to end. Staff: fantastic, helpful and polite. Portions: plentiful and fresh. The surroundings are very welcoming - remember to look up ^ (only noticed upon my second visit). Myself, and family are to be regulars. for as long as someone is willing to drive me there. 10/10 - and it is a massive rarity from me, so well done!

Arrived early but did not get served for st least 30 minutes. The drinks order was taken first and it took another 20 for a waiter to come and take our food order. The first plates of poppadums and dips took another 20 minutes to appear and a further wait of at least 45 minutes for the mains to appear. We were on the point of leaving then. When they did arrive, the plates were tepid and the food not much better. The rice was hot though. There was not enough staff working at front of house and I suspect, in the kitchen. It was very busy, but the service was not coming out in the right order. None of us will be back.

First time doing a take away from the Taal. Food was excellent, great flavours and decent portions. By the looks of things the restaurant was busy even on a Wednesday night which will give a good indication of it's popularity.

Heard mixed reports but, as it wasn't far to travel, decided to give it a go. Pros: Courteous and friendly staff. Clean and tidy restaurant. Cons: Food was hugely disappointing. Starter. Vegetable pakora. Almost devoid of flavour. I've eaten hundreds of veggie pakoras over 50 odd years; this was uncontestably the worst. Main. Lamb Bhuna. Lamb tough as old boots. Bordering on inedible. The Bhuna sauce was basically gravy. Conclusion. Sadly, this was my first and probably last visit to Taal. I say sadly, as Carluke doesn't have a lot of choice for eating out. The others in the group were of similar opinion. I don't know if they have submitted reviews. Come on Taal! Surely, the kitchen can do better than this. Maybe the owners believe that out here in the sticks the clientele will be easily pleased.

I’ve been here a few times since it opened and have absolutely no complaints. The food is always excellent and is reasonably priced, and the staff are lovely. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Love the food here and have been here quite a few times since it opened and also take away numerous times, but my goodness, they need to sort out their waiting staff,on 2 occasions we had issues with service coming out in dribs and drabs,it was a table of 9 and some people had eaten their dinner by the time others came out,on another occasion we specifically asked on booming for wheelchair access and never got it!on 2 occasions for takeaway they missed out certain items and tonight got the order completely wrong, Yes they say next time when you order we ll have free meals but that's twice its happened now no notes on the system!as they say. It's a great wee restaurant but please.sort out the silly mistakes

Average at best I wish restaurants would separate their dine in customers and take out… carrying bags past your diners is so off putting!! Nan bread was lovely but the rest was pretty underwhelming

I called in here for the first time to try it out and ordered chicken tikka meal, the tikka wasn't marinated so should not be called tikka as that is what gives it that unique taste, so it tasted very bland, and instead of a dark red colour it was a pale yellow, so they just put chicken in the tandoori oven without it being marinated, which is a quick cheap way to do it, also 5 different young girl waitresses asked me, "How's your meal or did I want something" which is very annoying as I just want peace to eat my meal", I never enjoyed my meal or the visit so definately will not be back.

Nice food but service very poor. Arrived for our 7pm table (celebrating my birthday) and were asked to wait in the bar as we were 5/10 minutes early which was fine but we weren’t offered a drink as we waited. When we sat down at our table we were immediately asked for our drink orders before we could even look at the drinks menu - we ordered 3 glasses of house wine. These came and we were then asked to order food. Ordered the chef platter for starters which was lovely and came quickly - food was really fresh so we really enjoyed that. For main I had ordered the butter chicken. When this arrived, I was surprised to find shards of bone in the sauce which put me off. I had eaten plenty by that point and the dish was nice overall aside from the bits of bone, garlic naan was excellent so I didn’t go hungry in spite of this. During our meal, we were not asked if we wanted any more drinks even when we were sitting with empty glasses on our table. When they cleared our plates for starters and mains they didn’t really speak to us. We had to flag down a waiter to order more drinks. Again we ordered more house wine. When they cleared our mains away, they then did not approach our table at all. We weren’t offered more drinks, weren’t asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu and weren’t asked if we wanted any coffees. Again we had to flag down a waiter to order coffees and more drinks. We ordered a Glayva and the waitress appeared with a Glenmorangie whiskey so we had to send this back. After we were given our coffees, we were again ignored. We were left sitting at one point with an empty table and empty glasses for around 20 minutes - one waitress came and started clearing our glasses away and again didn’t speak to us or offer another round of drinks. We eventually managed to get someone’s attention to ask for the bill so we could leave. When the bill arrived we realised our glasses of wine were not the house wine but the mid-range wine so we were charged more than we expected. We didn’t even bother arguing the case. I think that the issue is that all the staff are very young so maybe inexperienced. I wouldn’t come back here again simply due to the service, we plan to visit the Taal in Strathaven next time which is a shame. When this was La Piazza, we came here every year for my birthday but unfortunately we won’t be back.

I have eaten here several times with friends and family since it opened. At every visit food has been delicious and served promptly with very attentive and friendly staff. Generous portions and very reasonable prices. Would highly recommend and a very welcome dining option in Carluke.

Lovely Food and Friendly Staff however main courses were served on cold plates . Chicken Tikka is a pale yellow colour and not the rich orange colour like most other similar Indian Restaurants.

Excellent food, very professional staff who corrected a mistake immediately and adjusted the bill. Lovely room with nice atmosphere. Will definitely return and would recommend.
