Having just been to another establishment with incredibly rude staff it was lovely to have the polar opposite in here! Great work team!

Absolutely love this pub - chilled vibe, brilliant service, great menu and it's dog-friendly. On my most recent visit, I booked a table for a large group; communication with Emily in the run up to this was excellent and all ran smoothly with pre-booking our Sunday roasts. The food was delicious (I'd recommend the vegetarian wellington with a ginormous Yorkshire pudding) and the staff were super friendly and accommodating. The former post office interiors add character and charm to the place. Overall, I highly rate this pub and would definitely go back.

What a lovely place. Just visited with my godchild and his dad. We had steaks and butter milk burger. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Hats off to the chef. Emily and Yas were so nice, we all wanna come back. Thank you girls for looking after us. Sending you lots of love ❤️.

Awesome pub, aircon, and they brew some of the beers they serve! Very friendly service, would recommend to anyone in need of a bite, drink, or to cool down on a hot day.

My local for seven years now and still the best pub in the area. Top marks to Beth especially, who brings a positive and lovely energy to the place. My kids love the old bank vaults too. The Sylvan Post remains a unique and welcoming addition to Forest Hill.

A fabulous pub - excellently kept real ale (the Star Bitter is delicious), the food was so beautifully cooked, (gluten free options abound), the staff are friendly and helpful, the music was unobtrusive yet great (Janis Joplin, Billy Idol etc), the toilets are spotless and the prices very reasonable

Super-basic hipster style strip-out of a post office with a bar inserted. The food looked, and smelled lovely but we weren't eating. A fair range of ales and lagers, decent service. Pints around £6:20. Update: visited yesterday, good service, a couple of cheaper pints on offer- £5.60 is decent! Place could do with a little TLC but otherwise fine.

Went for a roast on Sunday, served by a wonderful staff member called Isabel. Very attentive service amd friendly atmosphere from everyone and the veggie Wellington was a good option for my partner and I. Would recommend!!!

Nice chilled out boozer not far from Forest Hill Station. Three cask ales and lots of craft on tap, many from the host Portobello Brewery. Service was decent and the vibe was very laid back & welcoming. Lots of outdoor seating.

Great pub quiz night! Good selection of beers and nice people.DO NOT order the nachos. It’s made of fake cheese and takes far too long/too expensive. It looked like the burgers and fish and chips looked nice (didn’t order them but wish I had!). Need to up their nacho game considerably

🚇 Forest Hill 🍺 £5.80 London Pilsner A Unique Post Office Pub Experience. The Sylvan Post is located on Dartmouth Road in Forest Hill, South East London. The nearest station is Forest Hill Overground, it’s a four minute walk to get here. This pub is situated in a former 1960’s post office and is run by Portobello Brewery. The owner’s of this pub have embraced the building’s history by retaining many of its original features. This is a one bar pub that has its main bar area at the front and a couple of snug areas at the rear. The servery has a thin 60’s style counter with brass fittings. All around the pub you will find kitsch 60s decor like the vintage formica tables and wooden seating. To the right of the servery are a number of booths with an eclectic mix of prints and photos. The stand out features is the postal memorabilia including framed postage stamps and telegrams. There is also post boxes marked Abroad, Country and London plus the old strong room now is converted into a cool little snug. The beer line up was decent and included a number of beers from Portobello Brewery including two cask ales and a good selection of No & Low. I decided on a pint of London Pilsner, my pint hit the spot, price point was average. There is traditional pub grub menu available with some interesting veggie options, Fish & Chips costs £15.50. For those visiting on a Sunday, Roasts take centre stage. We arrived around 2pm on a warm Saturday afternoon in February. The pub was busy and had a nice local neighbourly feel to it. The punters were predominantly young professionals with their young children here for a celebration. There were few other couples and families in attendance enjoying this unique environment. The service was great, the staff were upbeat and friendly. The pub hosts DJ and Quiz Nights, there are also deals on pints during the week for £4.50, check socials for timings and info. The 60’s decor, postal memorabilia, great beer, popular food and local pub feel made for a very enjoyable and unique pub experience. We went here for an early dinner (5:30pm) with a group of children. It was very busy, booking is recommended for a Friday evening. We ordered the fish and chips which was pretty good and had a lovely home made like tartare sauce. They offer a good selection of kids meals. I take a star off as service was quite slow even for a busy evening, we waited around 45mins for meals and when they were ready they didn’t come out the same time. I’m not so bothered about this for adults however for children there was around 10mins+ between all the children receiving their plates.

Beautiful pub, formerly a post office, which is evident from the many lovingly preserved details. The reception area quickly becomes noisy (expected atmosphere), but there are also separate areas for reservations if you like. Good beer, good cuisine for a pub, in addition to hearty meat dishes there is also something for vegetarians. Gladly again.

First time at the Sylvan post was back in 2014, which was nice but recently it's been under new management quite recently (PST covid) and the food has gone really downhill. If you never were there before, it's an ok pub but not what it once was.

Had a great time, lovely cocktails and 2 for £12 on thursdays! Shout out to the staff aswell, the bartenders were welcoming and knew how to have a laugh

Would be a better pub if they didn’t allow young kids to run riot. Kids shouldn’t be allowed in the pub past 6pm in my opinion.

I have been popping in for a Sunday Lunch and I must say it's very good, the Yorkshire Puddings are properly done. Not burnt or dry, proper! Friendly staff, used to be the Post Office in Forest Hill!

We go to Forest Hill randomly, but when we want to have a beer in a nice pub & atmosphere, we always choose the Sylvan Post. It's just more relaxing, not pretentious, yet with a very curious and cool decor. Staff always seems happy and aware. Local vibe with open mind. Great beer selection and board game!

Went for some Fri night drinks. We at the end of the bar and had slow service, recommend trying to get in the centre. Also music was a tad loud when sat under the speaker, be mindful of trying to talk. But love the refurb, it feels more open. Will defo be returning.

Nicely presented food in an atmospheric environment. But with overcooked fish and chicken. The food lets the place down in my opinion. With the prices the food should be excellent.

Sylvan Post - a great place! Newly refurbished to a great standard. Looks amazing with an even better vibe than before. Great to see the friendly staff back welcoming to all customers. A good range of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic and great tasty food at a decent price. Good sunny outside space with comfy seating inside. All-in-all a lovely place to go to relax, meet and enjoy. Recommended.

Perfect in a sunny day, we da a bottle of rose wine at £22 and some fresh halloumi fries and it was all we wanted, great people around and not to noisy 👌✨

I ordered a burger here, the food was quite nice with a good portion but unfortunately it took about an hour to arrive and when it was ready it was sat on the side for ages while several members of staff stood at the bar. it cost £15 which is too expensive for the standard of service imo. Wouldn’t mind having a drink here but probably wouldn’t eat here again.

The chicken wrap was SO tasty. Hot, tender, crispy chicken, perfectly wrapped and presented, and only £8! Alongside a cold pint and great atmosphere, not to mention exceptional service, made for a perfect lunch.

This is the best pint of Guinness I’ve had ALL DAY. It was also the BEST SERVICE I HAVE EXPERIENCED in AGES. I suspect it’s all down to the new manager.

Good Sunday lunch but service was very lacking. Slow service, waited a long time for orders to be taken. The food was lovely but service was disappointing.

Fabulous and strange place with excellent beer, great food and a good quiz where you can sit in an actual safe and get drunk. Also the gents is the warmest room I've ever been in that isn't an actual sauna.

Really like this place BUT please can you stop your bartenders from blotting salt onto the rims of glasses with their fingers? Especially when I see them seconds before touching the till screen. Think a pandemic would show that stuff like this should be avoided. Just roll the glass in salt, it's quicker and hygienic.

This used to be one of my favourite pubs before it got taken over a couple of years ago. I went there today again for lunch to give it another chance, I'm so sorry but the food is not good at all and we could not eat it. The staff is super friendly though, but I really hope they do something about their food.

Wonderful, characterful ex-post office with great ales, delicious food and lovely staff. I held my husband's wake there as it was one of his favourite pubs and the staff couldn't have been nicer and more helpful.

I have to give it a 5 rather than a 4 but it us closer to 5. Nice ale selection. I loved the Westway Pale. Serves food but hit and miss whether it's available in the evening. Post Boxes still on show, from the buildings previous incarnation as Post Office. Interesting snug in former safe/strong room. Loved it

Lovely place but £4.90 for a 330ml bottle of non-alcoholic beer is outrageous. Very poor range and over priced.

I love a roast. It’s my favourite thing to cook and I reckon the ones we had today were pretty much perfect. With decent portions of cauliflower cheese or pigs in blankets for sides too. Well worth trying!

Went for a Sunday Roast and it was great! Really cool interiors and delicious food, the roast chicken was particularly tasty! Our server Emily was really polite, friendly and attentive and we had a great first experience here. Can’t wait to come again another Sunday!

A bit sparse inside but the staff are lovely and the beer was good.

Great burgers (half price mains on Mondays) and margaritas! (Half price on Thursdays). Haven’t been on the weekend for DJ’s.

Amazing Sunday roast! The products are good, the Yorkshire pudding is as it should be and the pork was to die for. Team there is great and accomodating, so do yourself a favour and book a table! You won't regret it!

I was going to give this venue a three star review but after getting ill from eating their food, I thought one star was more appropriate. I come here for the quizzes on Wednesday evenings, from 8pm. They're a lot of fun and the young guy Alex who runs them is really good. First prize is a £50 bar tab though the raffle prize is usually more than that. Second prize is a bottle of wine, which I won once but it was only really good for cooking not drinking. I normally try to arrive early so that I can eat at the pizza place opposite or at a nearby Thai, since I don't find the quality of selection of the food to be high, particularly for veggies/vegans. This month alas I didn't have time to eat elsewhere. There was a new waitress at the pub who was professional and friendly (5 stars for her) but the vegan burger and houmous side dish were awful -'check out the photo. But I was hungry so ate it. Alas a short while later I had stomach cramps and diahorrea, and twelve hours later I still do. My friends who tried the houmous also felt funny but less so. Lesson learnt! Next time, arrive early enough to eat elsewhere! If you find this review helpful, please give it a "like".

Not bad. We went for a Sunday roast and it tasted good, portion sizes were good but I’d say a tad expensive for the setting. Wine was well priced though and a very informal setting. Pretty cool place

Beer selection is trying to be craft, but somehow showcases the mediocre breweries. I thought the interior would be old and cute with a heritage post office. Most of the history appears to be cleared and replaced with standard pub decor.

Went for Sunday lunch. A good sized meal with a great mix of veg and a huge Yorkshire pudding. Sadly the beef was a bit tough and not that flavoursome. Gravy was also a little watery.

So have just had a great roastie, cooked by Chef Jason ( Head Chef). Can honestly say he hit every note with succulent chicken, great roasties and gravy and the cauliflower cheese with its combo of cheddar and Red Leicester with spring onions to garnish was to die for… cabbage with leeks really brings an extra layer of flavour and the heritage carrots add texture alongside the mashed swede.. And add a Yorkies as light as a feather and the size of a desert bowl, what else could you ask for.. Comfort food at it’s best.. And the service by the gorgeous Emily made our afternoon complete.. ALL FOOD IS MICROWAVED! Chicken wings were warm on one side and cold on the other, chips were soggy, and battered fish was completely soft and batter wasn’t cooked through!
