This cafe is a real treat. It’s class. I’ve had breakfast here once and would like to repeat that. It’s tiny. And popular. Staff are friendly and charming. The food is … very good. How can you fry an egg to that perfection? Wish I knew. I hear this place has won awards. No surprise really. Recommend you turn up and see for yourself. Massively recommended. Update: I’ve been here quite a few times now. Very good. The Switch Special breakfast does fill you up 🙂

Friendly service and really great menu choice. Food well presented with just a little bit more to make it special and super tasty whether it was a savoury or a sweet choice. First visit there and already looking forward to a return visit.

This is my go to cafe when in Tilehurst. This morning I opted for the Eggs Florentine which didn't disappoint. 2 ouzy poached eggs sitting on top of a tosted muffin with spinach and a hollandaise sauce served with a ramekin of seasoned potato wedges, delicious 😋 Highly recommend

Arrived there at 1:40 pm, very hungry with my friend. You have to go up to order, but the staff are very kind and you can tell they like working there. Food with delicious (massive portions though!), however one star deducted because food took 35 minutes to arrive for only 2 dishes. Try the blueberry pancakes!!! So good

Visited The Switch for breakfast Thursday morning for a switch special breakfast while we visited the area from Peterborough. The service was brilliant and nothing too much bother, my wife had oreo pancakes and loved them. My special full breakfast was tasty and flavorful. I can't praise them enough and only wish they was closer to us . Highly recommended and if we are ever in area again you can be sure we will pop back in. 👍

Delicious bacon baguette with a homemade blondie slice to take away - wow!! The quality of all food was amazing, you can TASTE it’s all been made high quality ingredients. The presentation is very “fine dining”. My partner had a full English and the table next to us had poached eggs … They said the flavours were lovely .. it was all wonderfully done. And the service was extremely friendly, all staff polite and accommodating :) highly recommend. CANT WAIT TO GO BACK :)

A lovely visit to this cafe. It was difficult to decide what to have as everything on the menu sounded lovely. We ordered Avocado on toast and eggs benedict. The food was absolutely delicious (well worth the wait which we were informed about when ordering). It was hot, fresh and full of flavour. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The only slight negative was that the room was very noisy as it was full of customers and it was too cold to sit outside. Maybe some noise-absorbing interior design is needed - get Alan Carr in to help!! We would definitely visit again.

First off-Great food! Had the Chorizo duck eggs on sour dough which was excellent. Getting seated was fast even though it was quite busy and service was also quick. The drinks arrived within a minute of ordering and the food only a few minutes later. I ordered extra bacon which didn’t arrive with the meal but this was rectified in a couple of minutes. Atmosphere was slightly ruined by some very loud lads on a nearby table but no biggy really. Would highly recommend and will try something new next time as the menu is very varied and has some great looking dishes-and would like to sit outside. If it ever stops raining!!

Went there this morning on my own to check it out and wasn't disappointed. Switch Special breakfast was amazing, staff super friendly and great classic rnb vibes were playing (I'm a fan so may not be to others taste but I loved it). Had a lovely breakfast and will visit again.

My vegan breakfast was awful. Everything is unhealthy. I am vegan and want to eat healthily. The 'herby potatoes' are simply thrice cooked chips. Just call them chips and be real! The sourdough 'toast' i ordered was fried in oil in a pan. Have they not heard of a toaster? I assume they fry the sourdough because it is stale and so cannot be served as bread or fresh toast. When I asked them to replace the chips with hash brown they said I had to pay for the hash browns. When I asked for the sourdough fried bread to be removed and replaced with sourdough toast cooked in a toaster, I was told I would have to pay for it. The smashed avocado is mixed with coriander. No mention of this in the menu. I am allergic to coriander. They could not accommodate a plain avocado for me. 'Its all batch mixed so we don't have any actual avocado in the cafe". I sent my breakfast back. Very expensive and very unhealthy and not what they say it is in the menu. I won't be coming here again unless it is for coffee only. The decaf Americano was nice.

Visited for brunch with my sisters and 2 year old. Ordered breakfast and nuggets and chips from the children’s menu for my daughter. Adults breakfast came out . Had to ask for my daughters to which they said let them check. Came back with a roasting hot bowl of hard burnt and oily chips and put them in front of my daughter and said she can munch on them until the goujons were cooked as they had ‘forgotten to make them’ . Daughter attempted to eat some of the least burnt ‘chips’ then 10 minutes later a bowel of burnt chicken skin was served supposedly her goujons . Unbelievable that someone would serve that . We all said we would have been embarrassed to serve that. My breakfast was horrible. Scrambled eggs inedible , they tasted of stale oil . Mushroom hard and chewy.m . The standards have fallen so low I would never visit again. It’s as if they have a new chef or something as no comparison to my previous visit.

I’ve just had the most amazing breakfast of smashed avocado with poached eggs and sourdough toast . I would highly recommend this cafe the food and service are outstanding .

First visit and won't be last. I had a nicely served English breakfast with a proper sausage a decent rasher of back bacon and a nice juicy mushroom not those Button variety that are so often served in many cafes.All was washed down with English breakfast tea. Tilehurst should be proud of having a decent independent cafe at long last!

Decided to visit this place on New Year's Day as I was local to the area, hungover and in need of a tasty breakfast. We managed to find this cafe via Google and thought we would check it out. The cafe has a beautiful setup inside and outside, we decided to sit inside due to being cold and wet outside. We found that the menu offered an extensive range and variety of food options and was impressed with the wide range. We opted for the English breakfast and "make your own" breakfast. The quality of food (every ingredient) was amazing, the sausages were high quality, the bacon, the potatoes, beans and all the sides. We also opted for a green smoothie which has lots of different flavours in whilst also feeling very refreshing (which was needed). We did have to wait a long period of time as our ticket order got misplaced (hence why 4 stars on the service section of this review). The owner did apologise and made up for it. I think it was just a very busy day for them, so we understand mistakes / issues can happen. We are all human, right? I will have to visit this cafe again when I'm next in the area as the food and general service is great. THE FOOD WAS UNREAL! I really can NOT stress this enough! I would highly recommend this cafe to everybody and everyone. Its not even expensive, a few more extra quid than your local spoons or other cafes / restaurants (for breakfast) but you are paying for the quality of products used! I really rate this place. 10/10

Ordered breakfast, full english arrived cold as well as the oreo pancakes being burnt and tasting dry. The delivery time kept changing and arrived late.

Nice little cafe super clean with pleasant staff, great parking facilities behind the unit... The coffee was superb, the ingredients of the cooked breakfast also looked of a decent quality my only gripe would be for the money the portions are a little lacking, super if your on diet

Visit for lunch My first time at Switch and I was not disappointed Very busy but staff coped very well Quick service and the food was of the highest quality and plenty of it, very generous portion sizes. Menu a bit different to other local eateries but plenty of choice to cover all tastes. Switch is not a cheap cafe (lunch for 2 with a drink around £30) but worth it as the food is so good. My only criticism is that with being so popular it feels crowded, maybe due to the success it’s time for bigger premises to cope with the demand. Overall extremely good, will be revisiting soon, highly recommend.

£11.95 for a lukewarm mediocre breakfast, using low quality ingredients, was very disappointing! The drinks were nice and hot, but failed miserably on the food!

I wouldn’t return. I genuinely expected more from a place with this level of praise on Google reviews. Then again, those can certainly be faked. I’d recommend hiring new staff due to the attitude on some of these people, however, I think it’s the management that needs help as they’ve clearly provided no guidance. Honestly, save your money and go elsewhere.

I have eaten here many times before, frustratingly today wasn't the best experience. The music was too loud. The floor wasn't clean were I was sat and there were egg boxes thrown on the floor in the kitchen. Also some under the freezer in the kitchen. So not displaying the nest hygiene. I had my absolute favourite potatoes and annoyingly they were over cooked. My son was unable to eat his due to him worrying they'd dislodge his braces. My youngest son left feeling sick, and my husband had snotty eggs, burnt sausages, strange tasting mushrooms and hard bacon. My daughter really enjoyed her meal which was a bonus. Two couples left without ordering as it was costly for them.

By far the best cafe you will find in Berkshire! Highly recommended. Will always do their best to suit you as quick as possible if not straight away. Keep up the great work 👍🏻

Excellent brunch spot in Tilehurst. Nearly all of their brunch menu is delicious, but a particular standout is the duck eggs with chorizo which is incredibly moreish. Other options include a variety of sweet options (like pancakes and french toast) as well as fry-ups. The drinks they have on offer are equally good, with the smoothies and milkshakes being very comforting (especially if you're nursing a hangover!). The staff are great, although the venue itself is a bit small if eating inside so if it is busy it can feel slightly cramped; well worth it for the food though!

Came here as a family with three children. On arrival staff were friendly and accommodating and quick to be seated. Food came out fresh , hot and quickly. I’d have to say that their breakfast is up there with one of the best breakfast I’ve had it’s so full of flavour and so fresh. They know what they are doing. I ordered a coffee to go couldn’t fault that either . Such a great spot !

Smashed avocado, eggs and crispy bacon on sour dough and the best flat white in the whole of Reading, what's not to like!! Absolutely the BEST place to eat, can't be beaten.

With half capacity of the place, they serve lots of tables before serving ours, we order pancakes and after 45 mins, we ask again for the food, and we saw how they went to buy the blueberries and strawberries to the corner shop, when they should've done either earlier or let us know to have the opportunity of choose something else, the point here is that the kid was starving and was not right to wait that much just for a couple of pancakes. Maybe a good manager that control what happens in the kitchen and in the service would solve this painful time for the kid.

We came here for breakfast after really the reviews. We were disappointed with the pay as you order policy and to order everything at the counter. As we were a large group it was hard to remember all the orders and it was annoying to keep going backwards and forwards for our orders. For larger groups they should just take the orders at the table then the payments. 2 members of Staff at the till were free. As per my opinion this should be addressed specially for larger groups. Food wise full English breakfast was really good. But the Egg Benedict Royale wasn’t to my tastes unfortunately. I did like them fries that came with it. All the coffee we ordered weren’t hot enough.

This is what is a proper breakfast brunch cafe. Everything on the menu is unique and everything I’ve ordered so far is so good! The tex mex is a must! However if you are on Weight watchers stay away from the cakes as they are so good it feels like a sin has been committed !!

Amazing food & service, the quality of the food is 2nd to none. I arrived with my partner & assistance dog, the owner initially didn't want to allow my assistance dog in, but in his words ' please educate me' he listened to me & admitted that he didn't know the law on assistance dogs. He let us in & informed his staff, who were fantastic & accommodating. I had a breakfast & my partner had smashed avocado, both were beautifully prepared & generous portions, neither of us could clear our plates. We left there full up & full of praise for the establishment & staff, we will definitely be going back 5* from us 👍

Staff were super friendly and accommodating. My son knocked over his juice and they were quick to tidy up the spill and gave him a free replacement. Portions were great and of excellent quality. We’ll definitely be back.

So I am staying in the area around Purley for a few days to see my daughter and needed somewhere for a hearty breakfast to set us both up for the day, having looked at the reviews for this little gem we simply had to try it for ourselves, we are both extremely picky about our food and I used to be a long suffering slave to the catering trade so im the worst customer in the world and always have very high expectations of which are often blown into the wind. Well let me tell you that this place, delivered on everything. Before we even ordered we could see other people's delights and they looked amazing, I had the full cooked breakfast and it was of absolute quality, the bacon was especially good and cooked to perfection, my daughter had the pancakes with vanilla infused mascarpone, berries and banana, the pancakes were huge & fluffy, true American style. The staff were lovely and very accommodating, the food arrived pretty quick, the coffee was superb so I had 2 cups, as I'm a big coffee drinker especially if it's good. I'm pretty sure we will probably go again for the next few days and really hope another well deserved review will make you go too, it's definitely more than worth a visit. Sorry we couldn't add any photos as phones and food are a no go for me.

We went to have English breakfast, but I didn’t fancy it so I ordered avocado smash. My family told me that the English breakfast was very nice. Unfortunately my avocado toast wasn’t great, the avocado was gone off and it was tasting a bit acid. The poached eggs were perfectly done, however such a small eggs. Service was amazing and I guess was my fault not reporting about the avocado. Will come back probably I really like the place and would like to try more of the food they offer

This is a popular spot for locals and I can understand why; great value, speedy service and tasty dishes. The awards the Switch have recently won are well deserved and truly a gem in the area. The staff are friendly and polite; adds to the nice good vibes of the place. Overall I would go again and recommend to others (even during the weekend and peak times). Tips: -there are plenty of free parking behind the establishment. -the pancakes are great and recommend to trying. -you can order at the counter and pay there (rather than at the end of the meal; it speeds up the service).
