Swiss Cottage in East Riding of Yorkshire

My son took me to Swiss Cottage as a treat for my birthday. The food was awesome, the restaurant was warm and friendly. Jill was a pleasure. This really is a little gem in Hornsea that should be raved about a lot more.

Excellent Sunday lunch - delicious home made soup and desserts, as well as superb roast beef and roast pork with crackling! The price was so reasonable and the staff very pleasant - shall return

Over the years the Swiss Cottage has consistently maintained very high quality, home cooked foods. There is a comprehensive menu and you will find excellent, friendly and helpful staff. Fancy a drink before or after your meal, there is also a great bar.

We turned up without a booking for Sunday Lunch, the manager/ owner managed to fit us in, the beef roast dinner and the puddings were excellent. The food arrived very quickly and the girl serving and the owner manager were very efficient. Third time we have been great experience each time.

This was the 2nd time we’d eaten here but the 1st for other family members. We had a lovely meal and the service was great too. The portion sizes are substantial so you might want to consider this if you don’t have an appetite to match. As our family said, “it’s good, honest, fresh and tasty food with the service to match”.

Four of us dined at the Swiss on the Wednesday night, we all got the Rib Eye steaks and they were all superb, wine was also!, everything was spot on.

Great food and great service at this small, independent restaurant. Really enjoyed it, and it hasn't changed since we last visited six years ago.

Enjoyed a really nice meal here. Top quality meats. Melt in the mouth rack of lamb was spot on and the 10 oz Sirloin was excellent all served with proper chips and well cooked seasonal veg. Lemon sponge and custard was delicious like eating a lemon flavoured cloud. We will return.

Had a lovely family meal last night for a family birthday, 4 adults and 2 children and all had a great meal, steaks were beautifulas always and I tried the much room sauce this time instead of Stilton which was really nice, most of the party had fish and chips and the fish was nice and fresh with perfect batter, there was a good selection of vedge and proper home cooked chips, everyone was happy and cost wise was 110 with drinks for 6 of us really good value. I've read some reviews bringing down the decor and furnishings, yes it isn't modern but unique and it's nice to go somewhere that doesn't look like a clone of another restaurant!!

The atmosphere walking in is very friendly with a waitress to greet us and a friendly and helpful barman, our food was ready in excellent time and tasted amazing. The restaurant area was warm and inviting and not too large and overwhelming, overall a great dining experience would highly recommend to anyone living in or visiting hornsea

Hard to believe places like this still exist. Food ok, but the place is stuck in a 1980s time warp! Maybe that’s Hornsea!??

What a steak too. Cooked to perfection. This Restaurant is a little gem.The decor is olde worlde, Yorkshire. Very comfortable . Dark oak tables and chairs.Not your trendy contemporary style here just good old fashioned entertaining with attentive waiter service.The bar is exceptional and is quietly adorned and has top rate beers. I didn't want to write a review in case word got out but hey no I'm sharing this.Please book and give it a try. A venue for adults. No kids screaming. We were a party of 6 4 had steaks 2 had salmon and the puddings are delicious.

Well run pub and restaurant staff very good food excellent good service and good prices wide range of drinks good for eating in couples or groups we have had wedding parties and birthdays there always excellent

We dined here tonight during a midweek break in Yorkshire & found the food here Excellent! We'd definitely return again!It's friendly & the food is excellently priced & great value for money.For Mains we ordered the "Chicken Breast in Pepper Sauce" & the "Chicken Burger" ... portion sizes here are enormous & the food is piping hot & very tasty.

Lovely food and happy waitresses who were very helpful. Only grumble was that we had booked a table for 8pm. Arrived at 7.30pm. Eventually got seated in the restaurant at 8.45pm. Food served immediately but it meant we were eating later than planned.

Went with family and friends on Saturday and had a nice meal. Lovely staff especially the waitresses who were so pleasant and helpful. The only downside was that the steak pie and gravy was SO salty! Spoilt it a bit for us but the rest was fabulous.

Booked with friends for a Sunday lunch, meal was lovely could not fault it very reasonably priced and large portions. Would recommend highly and we will be visiting again. Booking is recommended.

We was staying at Marine pub and came across this whilst looking for something to eat, we was not disappointed. The service was very good, the menu very reasonable, the wine was excellent, the food was the best I've had in a long time, home cooked chips along with veg, the Plaice fillet was the biggest I've ever seen, so moist and the accompanying cream and prawn sauce was delicious. Will definitely revisit when back in the area. Go and try fir yourself you wont be disappointed.

We have just eaten in the Swiss cottage, garlic creamy mushrooms with crispy bacon to start, then Col had homemade steak pie I had rack of lamb, fresh veg and triple cooked chips. All was absolutely delicious all freshly made.

We booked a few days before and had pur meal at 7pm on Sunday.

Once again an excellent meal, as was are meal on Wednesday. My husband and I go to the Swiss Cottage regularly, the staff are friendly, helpful and we have never had a bad meal in 30 years. Before Clare and Noel owed Swiss Cottage, Clare had cooked there for many years, both a lovely couple.

The evening was going well, our food was good we were enjoying our evening. Sadly the mood suddenly changed and we left early. This saw due to the owner storming up to our table and shouting.... "that's how our steaks come and you ate half of it so if your expecting money off your not getting it" ... he then left as sharply as he had arrived. We were all stunned.

Had a meal here tonight, nice place quiet which was nice, food was very tasty and there was lots of it, i brought my veggies home in a doggy bag as i couldnt eat all my dinner, the waiter was very friendly and helpful, coffee was great, will be going back.

first impression of the swiss cottage are not good,peeling paint on the outside and a dated and tired look on the inside.the place is quite small,more like two rooms in a house.one room the bar the other the dining area.we were served by a young man who was probably on his first job but what he didn’t know about the menu he asked the chef so very helpful.we got various lagers and beers which were fine a few got starters of pate and some soup.all were ok.our main meals were good and just the right amount not much waste.a few got sirloin,one stroganoff,burgers for one and meat pie for another couple.all were served with chips and a mixture of veg that were placed on platters in the middle of the table.a thumbs up for the food.a few had desserts and coffee.our bill was £110 for 6 of us so pretty reasonable.if your in hornsea and don’t want fish and chips,give it a go

Food was lovely, really tasty. Staff very friendly and very attentive. The outside really could do with a lick of paint (I thought it was closed at first). The inside is a lovely little pub clean/tidy and plenty of room.

Arrived at the Swiss cottage and got took to our table by a nice frendley young man, then we never saw him again ( which is a pity) a waitress came to take our order, we got our food which was very nice well done to the kichen staff, our waitress never came back to ask if our food was ok, we had to go and find her to ask for more drinks, then she did not bring them to us because she forgot so we went to the bar ourselves, waitress to busy sat gabbing to her friends, took to long to take the dirty plates away. Next time we visit we will ask for the young man to take our food orders.

First visit with family, was made to feel very welcome. Had a lovely lunch and fantastic gin drinks, great selection of drinks. Looking forward to visiting again

Evening we went was steak night with offers if two were ordered of a free bottle of wine. I ordered the pork loin steaks and just ate it all - I am normally a big eater. Others too were delighted with their choices!

We had Lamb cutlets and Rack of Lamb, really tender meat and fresh vegetables including corn on the cob.Very busy but didn't have to wait long for meals.Drinks a bit expensive.

A lovely place to have a meal or just to have a drink. Staff are very welcoming and polite. The food is cooked to order and is very delicious and there's always plenty to eat. We went on tuesday 22 august then went again on 25th with family for a birthday meal had something different on both occasions and it did'nt disappoint. Excellent.

We had just arrived in Hornsea on a Saturday evening and decided to have a look around for something to eat.

It has been a while since we visited but were made very welcome and can remember the food been delicious! We hadn't had to book at that stage, unsure what situation is now, always seems to have plenty of covers in use when we pass. Very nice evening dining experience.

we have now visited Swiss cottage 4 times. Each time we have had different meals and really enjoyed them all. The service is friendly and always at hand if needed. It also has a nice little bar if you are only wanting a drink and a snak. It is a lovely little place just yards from the beach. We like to try different places to eat this is one of our few choices that we have chosen to return again a few times and im sure we will go back again.

Quaint and cosy are two words that spring to mind when I think back to our visit here yesterday. The menu is a good length: there's choice, but not an overwhelming one. The prices are appropriate and fair. Families are well catered for. Although I'm not vegetarian, I chose that option because I'm always interested to see how appetising ( or not! ) it is. Their vegetable and chestnut pie was tasty and a nice consistency. My partner had beef stroganoff with rice, which he clearly enjoyed. The separate serving of vegetables was generous, reasonably varied and we liked that that they were al dente. Every staff member we encountered contributed to our enjoyment of the meal. So why have I dropped a star? The chips! Get those as good as everything else, and you've truly bossed it!

Nice place friendly staff. I had a fillet steak my partner had the rack of lamb both meals were very good, we will definitely go back.

Having recently moved to Hornsea , we have eaten here 4 times with different friends and families. Each time the service has been both very friendly and efficient, and the food terrific each time. We also asked for a couple of amendments to particular meals and veg and the staff were very happy to accommodate us.

Weather was not good but we had a warm welcome and the food was excellent. We will definitely be back.

After been regular customers over the years we knew what we were expecting taking the team for a Christmas meal.

Long weekend in Hornsea and this restaurant was so good that we went back the next night. The staff are very friendly and the food is all freshly cooked and excellent. Prices are reasonable too.

This is probably the best restaurant in Hornsea. I stayed in Hornsea for 2 months and would eat here 2 or 3 times a week

We have been to Hornsea a few times and always went into town but decided to call in here for a meal, and it didn't disappoint, the food was great, and they have a good selection on menu, we will be coming here again next time were in hornsea.

Nice meals although they struggle a bit with very large parties. I especially like the fish and chips.

Fuimos en la última noche de estancia en refugios lago hornsea y nos sorprendió gratamente. Desde afuera parece bastante anticuado y necesita de algunas reparaciones, pero wow! ! ! La comida era deliciosa y el personal era atento y muy educado y amable. Será totalmente en nuestra segunda visita visita a Hornsea. Es un deber! ! !

Tuvimos una cena de 3 platos del menú a la carta y fue excelente. La comida era literalmente caliente cuando sirve, siempre es una buena señal en nuestra estimación. Tuve el medio pato y mi esposa con acompañamiento salsas pechuga de pollo como plato principal, ambos perfectamente preparado. Verduras incluidas patatas, brócoli, col, coliflor, zanahorias rojas. También había una porción de patatas fritas, muy sabroso y bien dorase, Yorkshire! Los principiantes también estaban muy bien. De postre tuve apple & black cherry cayera con crema y mi esposa tenía el chocolate casero, avellanas y helado de baileys roulade con ambos eran buenas porciones y tamaño. Todo a un precio razonable. De hecho, algunos restaurantes sin cargo mucho más. Había una fiesta en el mismo tiempo que nosotros, pero la camarera se aseguró de que fueron atendidas sin demora. Maravilloso servicio. Desde el exterior el edificio se ven muy modesto y la decoración puede parecer un poco anticuado, pero es pequeño y acogedor y tiene una pequeña zona de bar.

Had lovely Sunday lunch here with hubby and mum in law the roast beef was cooked perfectly with roast potatoes new potatoes Yorkshire pudding sprouts cauliflower swede and carrot mash also Apple crumble and custard roast pork was very nice too

Small and cosy. Lovely Sunday roast. Choice of beef, lamb or pork. A large serving of meat, and lovely veg. Cooked well and very good service. Prices very reasonable including the drinks. Will definitely go again.

Went for Sunday lunch, only veg were potatoes,mashed swede and cauliflower. Very disappointed with the vegetable selection but meat was tender. Service very good.

Good for veggies. Half a dozen decent veggie options; I had the mushroom Wellington, served with a side salad and a selection of fresh vegetables, boiled and fried potatoes. Friendly welcome pleasant enough environment. Would eat here again.

If you are looking for a great meal in Horsea, check out the Swiss Cottage. We had a function there and they not only accommodated us but provided excellent service. The food is brilliant. Everyone in our party was more than satisfied with their meal. I looked on Trip Advisor to see what folks had to say about the Swiss Cottage before we went. After our meal I do not understand why this place isn't in at least the top 10 in Hornsea. It is fantastic. Check it out.

Came here for my 60 th birthday 2015 it was fantastic. We came again for my sons 30th February 2017 it was just as nice with them catering for our large family again of 26 people , food out all together don't know how they do it ! Well done again.

We went to the Swiss Cottage with friends. The place is comfortable but dated.It is in need of a little TLC. The old stippled artex does it no favours. In my view this is the only drawback. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. The food was well presented and delicious and very reasonably priced. We will definitely be going back.

Went as last minute thing and was made very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble, we had a 9month old baby girl with us and she was very well catered for. We were still offered the option of the Sunday lunch despite it being after 7.30 at night. The food was wonderful, extremely well cooked we all enjoyed what we ordered. Very homely atmosphere. Only downfall was we got a little confused over the menu as we were given at least three different ones but in the grand scheme of things this was no biggy and took nothing away from the quality of the food and service. Highly recommended.

Swiss Cottage - What a rare & unique find in Hornsea, we were given a warm welcome from the Land Lord & friendly locals. We didn't have a meal, however the Swiss Cottage was extremely busy with diners & drinkers, the menu is varied & Sunday lunch looked delicious.

We were staying around the corner and wanted somewhere to eat. Saw swiss cottage and looked up reviews. Based on what we saw we went along. The outside does not look much and to be honest the interior is a throwback to the 70's/80's. However the service and food more than makes up for it. Great choice. There was something for everyone. Food was cooked fresh and was great. Nice size portions and hot/fresh food. The value for money is fantastic and we would recommend.

I requested a small taster of all the Mexican meals. The platter of food presented was a sight to behold. All the food was hot and each sample had its own pot of sauce the guacamole was homemade & especially nice. Must get the recipe. Will defo be returning to the next Mexican night. All food and drink at reasonable prices.

We came here to eat in the evening, we were offered a set menu and normal menu we chose to eat off the normal menu,our order was taken at the bar then the waitress came back later on to seat us at our table,the food was delicious can't fault it and very good value!

Overall excellent with just a few minor niggles. Excellent home cooked food. Good prices and generous portions. Lovely ambience, friendly staff. Not the fastest service, but would rather wait a few extra minutes for freshly cooked food. Niggles: had to ask for extra menus. Still had to share 2 of each (set & a'la carte) between 6. Two diners asked for filet steak, medium rare. It came medium, but was delicious. Ask for rare.

We visited for Sunday lunch,I would recommend booking as it was really busy. The food was delicious, the dessert was amazing and the bar was very reasonably priced too.

We looked around before setting off to Hornsea, trying Fish & Chips at Whiteheads was on the cards but then our second night we wanted a restaurant to eat at, so pleased we chose Swiss Cottage.Great place, there was four of us eating and we had a great meal and no space for a pudding but thoroughly happy and full when we left.Cost us £50 for 4 mains and a couple of drinks, well worth the money with the portion size.

This restaurant deserves to be ranked higher - we have only been twice so far but found both the staff & the food excellent on both occasions. One half bar the other the restaurant & hence suitable to use just as a pub or an eatery,you are made welcome either way - which appears to be appreciated by what looks like a regular faithful clientele. What might go against it is its location, slightly away from the main street & also the decor, which some may call old fashioned, others just quirky, neither of which detract from the lovely food.

We went on Saturday 23/1/16 for a Golden Wedding Anniversary meal for 11 of us, and a thoroughly enjoyed it.The food was delicious and good value, they have a set meal for two (3 courses) including a bottle of wine for £49.50 which a few of us had.It was a cool night and it could have done with the heating on, the radiators were stone cold, but we soon warmed up. But on arrival you had to keep your coats on, but other than that all ok.

I must admit I live in Hornsea, don't go here often but every time we visited the service food and staff have been excellent.

went here on the 20th december 2015 for my 60th birthday. we took the whole resturant as my family is very large 28 of us including 14 children.the meal and service was fantastic !! the whole evening was so nice. they did a great job all the food out on time and really nice too.thank you so much from us all.

This is the only restaurant in Hornsea that we use. Noel serves good beers and wines, whilst Clare is simply a fantastic cook. All this is provided in a friendly atmosphere

We visited here after completing the TPT coast to coast cycle ride. It doesn't look much from the outside but the food was amazing and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

The food here is always well presented and very tasty. A fantasticly friendly and comfortable dining area makes one feel welcome at every visit. The staff are always polite and extremely helpful, endeavouring to accommodate the customer requests at all times.Quite simply, 10/10. A must visit restaurant in Hornsea. If you're passing through or holidaying, i strongly recommend a visit.

Fantastic Food extremely good value for money friendly people and we go there quite regular well worth a visit

Being an Ozzzeee I reminded them of how much I love steak.Well……we chose the 2 x steaks and bottle of wine deal for 25 pound and was blown away. The steak was sensational, the wine was smooth as silk and the friendly atmosphere was an added bonus. The vegetarians at our table were also raving about their dishes. My only tip: Make sure you book early, as the locals know a good thing when they have it.

Been in a few times and it's pretty average there is worse in Hornsea it's ok does well for tea and cakes

First time to Hornsea so had no idea where to eat so left it entirely to local friends to organise my birthday meal. What a fantastic venue the Swiss Cottage was. I will certainly eat there again should I visit Hornsea. The choice was amazing the food was superb. Great selection of starters too. Such a choice of mains I was unsure what to choose! Six of us had the lamb and one the pork. All was so tender. The best lamb I've ever had. Beautifully cooked and pleasantly presented. The staff were friendly and helpful too and didn't rush us into making our choices. Although the dessert menu looked amazing too, we were all too full to try one of them. Maybe next time I'll forego the starter and save myself for a dessert!!

This was my second visit here and once again the food was amazing! It's a lovely little pub and restaurant with friendly staff.

We were staying in Hornsea for the week and this was our first visit. Had the lamb steak and it was delicious. The beef looked good too. The steak night deal is great value and includes a bottle of wine. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Book in advance though as we heard staff telling walk in customers they were full. Give it a try!

Excellent food, I went with family and friends and had the chicken in stilton sauce it was absolutely wonderful and I am going back tomorrow for the same. I can't praise it enough.

Felt right at home fantastic choice of good English food well presented homely and very helpfull its like your favourte old coat its warm comferting and you never want to let it go the best by far will go back time and time again

Went back to Swiss cottage for a meal out with my husband last wk end & ordered the battered mushrooms as a starter one of my favourites which were home made none of that frozen nonsense served up & they were lovely I really enjoyed them & then we had the steak with a mix of vegetables, and my husband was pleased he got new potatoes & chips & our pepper sauce was tasty I didn't order any puddings but only because I couldn't of possibly of eaten anything more I was so full , overall it's a lovely welcoming little place that I really enjoyed & I'm going to go back every week now as it's great value for money & the food was spot on couldn't fault them.

We had Sunday lunch and it was lovely, first class food, friendly and prompt service and much fun with the charming waiter Phil. We go regularly and don't always remember to review but we want all to know that for fresh home cooking at the best value in town, this is it. Don't forget to book, especially on Sundays. I was invited out for Sunday lunch with my partner and family to the Swiss Cottage at the seaside resort of Hornsea. The menu that we had was a 3 course lunch at a cost of around £10.25 .The menu consisted of a choice of 4 starters and a choice of beef lamb turkey or pork Sunday lunch and a nice selection of desserts. The meals are served by waitresses which are very polite professional and courteous .The food served is of an exceptional standard and is well presented and excellent value for money. The drinks and bar area is well stocked with a good selection of drinks and is of a well maintained standard and reasonably priced. I look forward to returning to this establishment next time I visit the seaside town of Hornsea. After all how often can you have a 3 course lunch for around a tenner. .? Lovely 10/10

We have been a few times and have really enjoyed the expierience.Yes as some reviewers have remarked the decor is a bit 80`s retro ,but i like it because it feels cosy and homely.Also i like the menu as it is very good value,beautifully cooked and good sized portions.We do like our currys and Italian restaurants but it is a real nice change to find a really good English restaurant that serves excellent English food.There are not many of them about.Recomended!

Together with my wife and two close friends we revisited the Swiss after approx. a year, it still held the warming, welcoming ambience it had previously. The bar still well stocked, in particular a good selection for the 'single' whisky expert, and I might add probably the best pint of Theakstons bitter I've had. We ordered our meals from their A la Carte menu (very competitively priced)- starters chosen were Chicken Pakora - delicious, Spicy Crab cakes -delicious , Steak, Rack of Lamb etc superbly cooked and presented- we all conferred one of the best meals we have all had in a long time. The waiting staff were young, though attentive and very friendly- nothing was too much trouble and the evening was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable we could remember - we will be back !

This place is fine and the service is friendly enough, but the food is really only average. Had the lamb rack, which was good, as was another guest's salmon. However, the accompanying veg is pretty bland - just plain old boiled veg. Main courses were generous sizes but sides of chips were smaller than expected. Desserts were quite disappointing all round. The hazelnut roulade sounded promising but had a bitter taste to it. Banana split was as basic as it sounds. The ice cream had an odd texture. The prices aren't expensive but definitely too high for the quality received.

Just returned from a lovely week in Hornsea, ate at Swiss Cottage four times during our stay, lovely comfortable bar and restaurant, lovely staff, great service and the food is to die for...the lady chef obviously cares very much about the food she delivers, beautifully presented and very tasty...reasonably priced too, would deffinatly go back.just as a footnote, we did try to book at the lemon tree but was met by ignorant staff who looked at me as though l was something the cat had dragged in!! just said they were fully booked then carried on talking to a customer and totally ignored me, did not ask if l would like to book for a future date..how rude, first impressions count and l cannot understand why this restaurant is no 1 and Swiss Cottage is ranked 18th...should be other way round!!

This was the second time we've been to the Swiss Cottage. We love its quirky "1980s" character. On walking through the front door you are in the bar area. A good selection of of drinks are available and served to you by very friendly staff. The bar is cozy and warm.Menus are available for your perusal whilst in the bar, giving you plenty of time to order before going through to the dining area. Even the food is straight out of the eighties (this is not a complaint) with old favourites starters such as prawn cocktail and breaded garlic mushrooms. The main courses were all good home cooked choices accompanied by seasonal vegetables . The staff throughout are friendly and welcoming. A place to relax and feel at home.
