Avoid like the plague. Late delivery (very late). Blamed the weather (very dry and calm night), showing dishonesty. Food was cold and not enjoyable. Owner refuses to accept criticism and to give refund. NEVER AGAIN.

Used discount "stamp card" loyalty card... It seems by using this they send you yesterdays food warmed up and 45 minuets late, Called twice and had the phone rudely put down with "its on its way".. Food was fit for the bin. Rice was odd and sticky. 3 small pieces of duck in the chow main which was fatty and chewy. Beef curry was not edible as beef was unchewable. So binned it. Wont use Sweet basil again and wont use Just eat again. I cant bear the stress and food waste and loss of money. Awfull..

I have been ordering from this restaurant for many years. Within the last few months, the restaurant has been under new management, and I am led to believe the chef is not qualified to cook Chinese dishes. I have a repeat order. The first time I ordered under new management, the salt and pepper chicken was covered in chilli peices and chilli oil. The restaurant was apologetic and returned to deliver the correct order. 2nd time, I requested no chilli, and they got this correct. Chicken balls however were so doughy like fried dumplins or doughnuts. Now, the 3rd time is my reason for this review and why I will never eat at this restaurant again. Before the order I said to my partner, we have been disappointed, however we agreed to give it one last go. I repeated 5 times salt and pepper chicken no chilli and extra veg.The lady who was not Chinese struggled with this Instruction, eventually I requested that she repeats and she got it right but still passed phone onto a male colleague. I again repeated the order. Upon arrival, surprise surprise covered in chilli. The restaurant did accommodate and returned to provide the correct order, to which I am grateful, although I remained frustrated. Pleases see the image of the order with extra veg request, which is laughable. A total of 1 or 2 rings of onion maybe 3. The dish however tasted OK. Chicken balls - non edible dough balls. YUCK. Rice edible, but the taste reminded me of a ready meal texture. £26 gone down the drain. Never again Sweet Basil. Avoid at all costs!! See images for yourself.

Order food was told 40 to 45 mins now 1 hour no food called take sway said driver on his way 10mins. 15 mins later no driver I call again advised trying to get hold of driver the will call me back. No one called over an hour 10 mins since order he said driver should be there . The driver arrived 1 hours 20 mins after order food was cold. When I called shop back he didnt know what to say and said no mam cannot be cold. Just a joke the blind leading the blind.. money wasted.. Driver said I was sent out with your food 20 mins ago and had another delivery before you. Just a joke the take away. Will not order again. Used to be a good take away BUT NO MORE. The elderly man was helpful the team yesterday was rubbish you cannot understand them..BAD SERVICE

My husband picked up Chinese last night from Sweet basil. After eating prawn noodles I felt sick straight away. Now in bed with food poisoning. I will pay a visit once I'm back on my feed and probably will report the restaurant for their poor quality and service. I'm so ill, I can't believe those places are even allowed to stay open. Disgusting.

I think they are really polite and helpful ! I think food is not as good as Chinatown though , I prefer to eat there ! But as a local restaurant this is sufficient! They have a large selection of menu and food is good but not great

I had a home delivery Chinese last night. A few minutes (too quick) after placing the order it arrived, only when I opened it up found it was the wrong order of course. I must have someone else's meal. A quick phone call and after a short while they delivered mine and took away the wrong one. Everyone makes mistakes, but you do not always get such good service putting them right. Well Done Sweet Basil. And the food was excellent too.

Not even close to average fried rice. Went for a beef fried rice. Portion alright 👍, decently sized. Only the taste is kind of fade with the egg much more predominant than it should be.

I did order sweet and sour chiken and proons and egg fried rice,did poison myself wery badly spend all night in the toilet,womiting and diarrhoea,was sick couple days,did see that food does look a bit weird and they cooked it wery fast,did ask to come to pick it up in3-5 min(usually it does take about 10min)newer ewer again will order there again

The food was nasty. I ordered noodle chicken soup. I've never eaten such a bad soup before, but what to expect if you pour soy sauce over the cooked chicken and add water, no vegetables, only soy sauce, noodle water and a few pieces of Beijing cabbage. How can food be so wasted?

Excellent food delivered very quickly. Reasonable prices and portion sizes. I have seen poor reviews of this place, mainly due to delivery. I can only speak as I find. I have ordered here many times without problem and in fact prefer here than other local takeaways because of food quality.

Disgusting customers service I ordered here on Saturday 26/11/2021 was told delivery was between 18:50-19:10 so at 19:15 when still no food I called to be told it would be another 15 minutes at 19:35 still no food so I called again was to told it would be another 15 minutes so at 20:00 still no find I called again to be told the driver had not collected the food, when I ask if they were were joke the guy said the manager told him to tell me to get a refund from just eat ??? The food is not coming when I ask to speak with the manager the guy said the manager didn’t want to speak and cut the phone off, disgusting way to run a business avoid this place.it not even a 1star

This is normaly my go to hinese place. But tonight the food tasted out dated and old dry. The pancake rolls were dry and had a funky smell. The chow main tasted reheated and dry and the sweet and sour chicken had about 4 pieces of chicken .....

Only ever ordered and collected at store. Cash only there is no card machine. Clean restaurant, I like that I can see right through into the kitchen. Good flavours and portion sizes for the price. Purchased a few times and consistent. Friendly staff.

Fried rice is not fried and had no peas? Samosa and spring rolls cheap squished versions, chow mein bland. Not impressed, certainly won't be using them ever again.

i ordered on Just eat, forgetting this was the take away i had before. Last time it was so bad i had to take the whole thing back. This time Ditto. the noodles were ok , everything else terrible. i dont think Chinese people have anything to do with this place. Dont wastes your money

At 19:50 on 26th June, I ordered £38 worth of food from Sweet Basil Chinese, the delivery was scheduled for 20:55. Approximately 21:20 I contacted the restaurant regarding an update, which I was told the food was on it way. Unfortunately, still nothing. Approximately 21:50, I contacted the restaurant again in relation to my delivery, in which they responded that the food has been delivered. When I explained that the food hasn't been delivered, they treated me like I was lying, the owner of the restaurant refused to speak with me, refused to cook new food or offered a refund, after speaking with the Manager Tommy, they eventually agreed they would send the driver back to my address to see if I'm the person he handed the food over too (the driver even explained the description of the person who he handed the food too, which was the complete opposite to me), which they agreed if I wasn't, they would cook new food for me etc 20 minutes after, the driver arrived and agreed that I wasn't the person and that be confirmed he handed the food over to someone else completely. The driver contacted the restaurant from my property and explained the situation, the boss said, if the driver doesn't pay the £38, I wouldn't be issued with a refund or new food cooked. The driver then quit the job on my doorstep as he agreed the boss is a horrible man and agreed he would pay the £38, I then call Tommy back and ask for an update, which they refused to issue a refund or cook new food, after serval conversation, they finally agreed they would cancel my order and issue a refund, in which, they began explaining that they couldn't because their Just Eat Panel wasn't working. I contacted them two days later in good faith and explained to them, I have found out who the person who took the food in case they wanted to send a driver and try and get their money back, to be told I am banned from the restaurant. Personally, I would stand clear of this restaurant, if there is anything wrong with your order, they will not be helpful and you will waste 3.5 hours of your evening arguing with the owner. If you don't believe me, check their Google reviews, which explains it all.

Take Away Delivered within 25 minutes of placing order, piping hot and absolutely delicious. Ordered over £32 of food and no complaints from anyone, Free bottle of Pepsi was an unexpected bonus. Happy to recommend. Thanks!

The delivery was on time even earlier.The order came with chinese cookies and snack. The noodles with king prawn was excellent but can’t say the same for sweet&sour chicken balls as you can feel was added more vinegar and the mixed vegetables fried rice haven’t got any soya sauce.

Waited 2 hours for our order. It arrived freezing cold and we were declined any form of refund. When we complained, they refused to help and told us to complain to Just Eat. I will not be using this takeaway again.

We had used this takeaway a few times and were relatively happy with the quality of food. Last Friday (12/02/21) we ordered nearly £40 of food and waited 2 hours for it to arrive. When it finally did arrive, every item was stone cold, and needed to be reheated. So so far this doesn't sound too bad, but not great, right? We had always found the service and the food to be good in the past and I didn't want to be put off using them again so I called to complain and resolve the issue. The person taking the call had absolutely no interest in dealing with the complaint. they were clearly only interested in taking other orders. I asked to speak to a manager or someone that could help. I was told that I should complain to Just Eat and that the takeaway would not be taking any responsibility for the delay, the quality of the food or any form of partial refund or credit notes. I was absolutely outraged. I just wanted to resolve the problem so that I could feel confident to use the takeaway in future. I insisted on speaking to someone and was told again to contact Just Eat. threatened that if they did not resolve the matter properly I would have no option but to withdraw my custom and leave poor reviews on social media sites. They replied, 'That's fine.'So here I am. I will look into seeking a small claims case against them but basically, the moral of the story is, 'Don't use a firm that treats their customers like this.' They don't deserve your custom and there are plenty of others that will look after you.

You get what you pay for. We had 6 dishes, chicken, pork and veg options. Was all OK. For an average of £5 a dish was on lower side of acceptable. Would not pay more than that for it. Is much better in Romford. Our 2 usual places were telling us to wait over an hour and we couldn't wait that long.

Just moved to the area and was looking for a new Chinese to try on Saturday night. Was pleasantly surprised and would highly recommend Sweet Basil! Great tasting food and was given a free bottle of Pepsi and fortune cookies 🤩 Happy Chinese New Year!

I had the Sweat and Sour Chicken Hong-Kong style and the Chicken Chow Mein. Great portion sizes and even better taste. Sweat and Sour sauce not to thick and tasted amazing. Chicken tender and cooked to perfection. Chow mein perfectly seasoned. Highly recommended. Yum Yum Yym

Dreadful. The golden roast pork was stale and the chow mein had no flavour. Shredded beef was cooked in fish oil and even the fried rice was awful had to give to my dog.

What a disappointment. Roast duck fried rice came with 2 tiny bits of duck, deep fried shredded beef taste like old fish. Looks like it was fried in fish oil. Golden roast pork is chewy, tasteless and definitely not fresh. I would love my money back. Will never ever again.

Never one to leave reviews but I can't believe this place only has 2 stars, the best food.. So tasty and consistently good everytime. Would't go to any other chinese! We have tried so many but always end up back at Sweet Basil. Our order is chicken satay skewers, sweet chilli beef, salt and pepper prawn, prawn toast, special fried rice, pork udon noodle and sometimes duck, sweet and sour prawn and Ribs in BBQ Sauce.... amazing everytime. Food turned up early which is the only good thing. We just saved for 4 weeks for a treat and wasted over £40. There was food missing and the fried rice was not fried. Tried to call the restaurant but it was either engaged or the phone rung out. Absolutely disgusting we just threw the food away and have now got toast. Do not waste your money. I’m so disappointed.

This is the second time we’ve ordered from this takeaway and although the food is tasty, on the initial delivery we received someone else’s order. We tried to call the restaurant but the phone either rang relentlessly or was engaged. The delivery guy realised his error and called us. Unfortunately the order was missing a vital part of one of the dishes. At nearly GBP50 for two people it’s not cheap. My partner is very forgiving so we’ll no doubt order from them again but I’m wary.

Terrible customer service. Ordered a takeaway online, got the confirmation email and waited over 1.30 hrs, could not get through on the telephone - it just kept ringing and ringing. I perservered and eventually someone answered, I was told that the order was cancelled because I opted to pay cash! I was not notified about this and hence I am writing this to vent my anger and frustration. I will avoid this place in the future. No apology was given and I was told that I need to order again and pay with a card (after waiting nearly 2 hours).

I had a few fair experiences with this takeaway. But the last one was appalling. Delivery was very late, I rang once, was told it was being cooked and would be 30 minutes. Rang again 40 minutes lates, was told it was cooking again.I then had to ring back and cancel, and I am now waiting for a refund. If the refund doesn't come through, there will be an update on the review!!I can forgive a lot, but not lies.Never again.

I've always had a pleasant experience with Sweet Basil. We order a large group order from them once a month and the food is always great, the staff are also really good at labelling our meals with everyones initials so that it's easy to distribute.

Had multiple takeaway’s from Sweet Basil and always been very satisfied. Peanut Satay and Sweet & Sour Hong Kong Style are always delicious amongst others.

Just ordered food and got to say one of the worst takeaways I have ever had, Malaysian rice with squid in which was inedible could not get teeth through it and rice tasteless , ribs greasy and fatty, prawn toast , no prawn , chicken curry really unsure what was in it but just tasted like cornflour with pink chicken, the whole lot has gone in bin awful oh yes the curry has stained 2 of my placemats and wont come out.

As a whole this place is not the worst I have tried in the area but is not the best. It is literally hit and miss, I am a firm believer of giving things the benefit of the doubt and I have tried with this place - to have your food turn up 30-45 mins late On different occasions and cold with no explanation is a liberty,I will never chase an order as I know they are busy etc, No complimentary free prawn crackers even with orders over £40 -it’s the little things that keep customers coming back through your doors-for me as a food Critic and with your 2* hygiene rating-I’m out !!

I really like the food from this place. My fav rice noodles with kind prawns are the best and I always go for it. My husband tried duck with mushrooms few times and also was very pleased. Portions are pretty big and the service is veeeery fast. I recommend this place for take away or delivery, you won't be disappointed!

I previously ordered the special fried rice and hated the shrimps innit as they were hard almost uncooked. So the next time I order I see on the menu that there's a house special fried rice, the description stated that this rice included prawns instead of shrimp. So I was thinking this is a great alternative as sfr usually has prawns. After my food was delivered to my surprise it was in a different packaging to the special fried rice that some family had ordered. Assumed it was a way to differentiate. To my horror i opened the container slightly to see a small amount of EGG fried rice swimming in this awful black sauce thing, which smelt awful and had big chunks of beef inside. I was so confused as to why I had received this, so I called up and the owner kept saying oh it's very nice and it comes with the sauce (gave a weird name to it) and avoiding my question as to why their menu is SO MISLEADING by leaving out this crucial information. He then passed me to a girl who spoke better English and she was so unhelpful! I asked for them to send out their special fried rice in exchange as I couldn't believe there was such a difference in the rices, all she said was boss says no exchange if you've opened the container for the rice. I mean what?!!! I hadn't even taken a grain of rice? How else are u supposed to check if ur order is correct without opening it? Complete madness. The thing is I remained calm and composed on the phone so I don't understand y try couldn't provide a good customer service and send out another rice? DONT BOTHER ordering here. Disgraceful service and a major lack of empathy or care with the staff. They didn't even offer me a refund for it and were quick to get me off the phone. Their menu is deceptive, unimpressed .

First time I've eaten from here as my normal chinese isn't open this evening, so took a risk and ordered this evening and it was one of the nicest, most fresh and delicious chinese meals I have had. Top marks it's a shame I am moving away from London soon, wish we'd discovered it earlier, well done, and thank you.

My favourite place to order some Chinese!

Went in to try they're version of salt and pepper squid along with spring roles . Got charged for extra seasoning on the over cooked squid which looks previously frozen. Squid was tough chicken prep area dirty alongside cardboard on floors food stacked up inappropriately on floors. Generally wasn't impressed should've gone elsewhere but I've had experiences with old restaurants cooking great food even though they're old school.Regretfully this one wasn't won't be going there again.

NEVER EVER ORDER FROM THIS PLACE!!! This is for your own good. They are extremely rude and they don’t know what good customer service is. I ordered my food and the driver called 20 minutes later than the due time saying that she can’t find my house address (I swear every delivery person has gps or Google maps on their phone?!). After trying my best to give direction to this lady, she told me to come outside, to her location (is this normal???), she also had the audacity to tell me:” Do you want your food? If you do, come down otherwise I’m going because I can’t find your house. “; after I made it clear that I’m not coming down because I payed for delivery, she gained some sense and came to my doorstep. Upon arrival, my kind sister asked her if she was doing alright and she answered with attitude:”are YOU alright??”. My sister asked her why was she giving her attitude and why was she being rude, and she literally dropped the food (we paid for) on the floor and said :”F**k off “ and run away 😂. What coward! Anyways after that I decided to call the restaurant to inform them and the receptionist told me that they have decided to block my address for future orders because I insulted the driver, without hearing my side of the story. Let me also remind you reading that she is the one who insulted me. No comment. That one star on my review is only because they are going to give my money back and also because I can’t review without at least a star.

The worst customer service I've encountered from a Chinese restaurant/takeaway. I wouldn't have even given this place 1 star! They didn't process my order, yet failed to tell me. Instead sent me a message saying my order is on its way. 35 minutes later, still no sign of the food. Rang them up and they gave a pathetic excuse and no apology. Avoid this restaurant at all costs.

AVOID THIS PLACE. Rude and sarcastic customer service on the phone. Lied about delivery and calling my phone when I had no missed calls. They told me they would just chuck the food in the bin when i said I’d like to cancel because it didn’t arrive when it had been an hour then he said it’ll be a £2 charge for coming out again and sarcastically said I would not get a refund on my order being clever but thanks to Just Eat I did. Look I know when you order from a place like this on a friday night that you have to wait 40-60 min for delivery. Hungry house tells me this and I say ok 60 min is fine... 2 hours later (after a call 1.5 hours in promising he was around the corner)I finally receive my luke warm obviously-been-sat-under-a-heat-lamp chicken! There are too many chineses in the area to be this bad. This was my first and for sure my last visit to Sweet Basil! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!

Food was 40 minutes late - no apology from driver. Called to ask to speak to owner or manager, person who answered the phone was arguing in background in own language, won’t be ordering again.

Very fast delivery and food is tasty

Ordered with Hungryhouse delivery time 1 hour but arrived within 30mins. The driver was very very friendly. The food was warm and the taste really good. Even we got a bottle of Pepsi which wasn't in the set menu. Really happy with them.

Hugely disappointed. This place has always provided top notch food. but tonight was awful. Satay chicken tough with hardly any sauce like it had been reheated. Squid was hardly any Squid, almost all vegetables and the Squid were tough like they were also reheated, wouldn't expect carrots in a squid dish, it's just money saving packing it out with veggies. Sweet and Sour King Prawn was better proportioned but again masses of vegetables some of which tasted like washing up liquid ! Very poor overall compared to previous good food. There must be a new chef or someone pulling the purse screens. Unfortunately it only takes one bad experience never to return so they have lost us as a customer despite 7 previous good experiences, it's just not worth the risk if this is what they can churn out now,.Should really be zero stars not one for food quality.

Awful. Ordered on Just Eat. Gave me a delivery time of 1hr 15 mins later and didn't show despite changing the status of the order to 'delivered' on the Just Eat App. Tried calling but they left their phone off the hook and even the Just Eat helpline staff couldn't get in touch with them. Given a refund in the end after waiting for food for 1hr45mins which didn't turn up.

Another excellent family meal from Sweet Basil. All dishes excellently prepared with no oily or salty taste. Outstanding Prawn Curry with a perfect boiled rice. Delicious prawn toasts, seaweed and salt and pepper spate ribs. A definite for a return order.

Do not order!!! Food came stone cold because driver couldn't find the address even after we've been on the phone to him 3 times explaining. Rang to restaurant and they said they can give us free prawn toast next time! There's no next time!

Not very clean there all eating as preparing food and a little naughty boy running about the kitchen don't think I'll go there again. Think it's new management but same staff 😮

Man on the phone was friendly however it took over an hour to arrive although I ordered it as soon as they opened. Delivery driver was extremely rude he wouldn't come to my door and rang me asking why I wouldn't go to his car to get it from him! Food was TERRIBLE. egg fried rice didn't taste of anything just rubber...prawn crackers had no taste whatsoever either. The sweet and sour chicken was barley chicken and had so many chillies in ecen though when i rang up he confirmed it isnt a spicy dish and has no chillies! It was overall just terrible food, I never bother to write reviews but this was so so bad I had to. Try great wall or China in gidea park it is much much better.

This place is so irritating firstly it's a 50/50 chance that you will get nicely cooked freashly made food here sometimes the rice is mushy salty and cold the prawn balls is literally just batter and the sweet and sour chicken is tough, the staff can sometimes be very rude and majority of the time gets the order wrong once the delivery man was on the phone chatting away while giving me my food and had the cheek to whisper the price and if I would like to leave a tip 😐 Tonight was the last time me ordering from this place they're becoming very lazy if I could leave no stars I would

Would give it no stars if I could. Very bad customer service. Ordered the food at 8pm and didn't get the delivery until 10:23pm (to be exact), for an address that is not up to 30 mins away. Called to complain and couldn't even get an apology plus the manager was very rude. Once again bad customer service. Ps: food was cold and isn't even that great. I'm advising you to avoid ordering from such nonsense. There are loads of other Chinese restaurants with much better service in Romford. And this is an honest review. Not worth the money at all. Too disappointing.

Worst customer service ever. If it was possible they would receive 0 stars. Order took 3 hours to come. Spoke to the owner he was extremely rude and hung up on me. Never ordering again. Stay away if possible
