Sweep's Cafe in West Lancashire

Another visit to Sweeps did not disappoint, I took all the family . Great food , great service in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. I really don’t know why a bother trying out other local eateries , they are never as good as the Sweeps experience and we always end up going back there .

This is a lovely car with friendly attentive staff. They sell excellent coffee and delicious food. The cafe is large and airy.

First class quality service with matching food. Well worth calling in for a lite bite or full meal, 😋 been a few times and have never been let down by the food choices and service and value for money... a must place to stop on the way or back from Southport. We even drop in just for a latte....

Had a lovely lunch there today with hubby and family member. Staff friendly we all had something different and all enjoyed it.

Had the most disgusting coffee and walnut cake iv ever had, the butter cream obviously had no butter in it, I guess its made with a cheap oil, it was a weird taste and texture. I was ill for a few hours after eating it, never again will I eat cake there

Still the best place around for value and service. We come here on our way to Southport, the place and staff are lovely. Can't wait for the garden centre to be open so we can buy some plants on our way back home.

What a disappointment after our usual service. We were advised of a 20 minutes wait for food, which was acceptable however this ended up being 40 minutes. The staff were very stressed and the ambiance was very depressing. We were served a poached egg that was cold and a very miserable effort of a steak and kidney pudding (shop bought) with a tablespoon of peas and a miserable small basket of chips. The gravy was very good. Overall a very poor experience.

Not even one star. It’s filthy, poor service due to being under staffed and food way below average. I also witnessed the owner speaking dreadfully to the staff in front of customers. Never again! The final straw was seeing remnants of rat droppings around the seating area near the front door. Such a shame as this used to be a lovely place many years ago.

Had a great breakfast here - bacon & egg barms with coffee for two. The staff were very nice indeed, not at all formal but just really genuinely nice. One of our coffees was a decaf and when she came, she said she couldn't be sure which one was which and without asking, she took them back and made both again just to be sure. This is great care taken over something that seems small but would have made one of us poorly had it been mixed up. The food was hot, swift and the coffees were amazing. Happily left a tip and we will be back soon.

Lovely food, but dreadful service. Tables not cleared. Half hour wait for order to be taken. Staff delivering wrong orders to tables and couldn't manage tills. The poor young women there were out of their depth.

We have been coming to Sweeps for a while now on and off. The cafe is a true gem in the area. Lovely surroundings. nice coffee and great food.

Went here for lunch fish & chips,peas. Asked for our drink,teas to be served with our meal. Tea came straight away so I said we requested it with the meal. Grumpily taken away & noticed it left on worktop by the till.Meal came 10 minutes later fish chips, no pea's , so the girl went off to look for peas, same tea was brought to us that was by the till, a while later the girl came with a tiny pot of peas,not even a tablespoon. Fish was cold in the middle,plates cold. for £10.95, meal wasn’t great. I used to come here years ago & the food & service was very good. They did clean & side the tables. Won’t be going again unfortunately.

We often go to Sootys and occasionally pop into the restaurant for the Sweeps Breakfast. It has been consistently good over the years and really sets you up for the rest of the day. As always, the staff were helpful and efficient.

We have used Sootys for a few years now and travel in from Cheshire to have a meal.Today we were required to take a seat and the waiter would come to take our order, We sat down and ended up waiting well over 15 minuets before we were noticed,then ended up 15/20 mins for our meal to come, as they have changed there system .before you went up to the counter and orderd your meal and gave your table number, and waited approx 20 mins before it came, we watched the only TWO staff running round .taking orders/delivering tea.coffie/bringing orders/them coming for payment!.We felt the staff were expected to attend to far too many customers themselves.They were lovely girls cant complain on there service and pleasentness,but had to comment on just how much they were expected to do .from meals to snacks to taking payments at the table. This took away the atmosphere we so call in for. The routine does NOT need changing it was good as it was .,The meals are exceptinal and well worth the traveling.PLEASE DONT TAKE AWAY THE ATMOSPHERE Id hate to think the staff were nit appreciated .they are well worth any praise.

Had a wonderful lunch with great service and super food. The atmosphere in Sweeps is always has a positive vibe . Two of us had wraps and they were delicious and the side of chips made it for us. The staff are really friendly, the food great and the prices very competitive.

I’ve just sat back in my chair , rested my hands on my tummy ,after a Sweeps breakfast . It was just fantastic , it really was , it’s the best in the area hands down . Stopped for lunch at Sweeps cafe/restaurant today. Their menu offers a varied and affordable selection of snacks and meals to satisfy most tastes and appetites and a specials board with traditional good wholesome fare. A glance at the cake counter suggests those with a sweet tooth are well catered for here.The reputation for their fish and chips is second to none and deservedly so, we had a small fish chips and mushy peas and the fish finger baton with salad and coleslaw both served up with a creamyTartar sauce, I'm sure the small fish portion has grown in size from what it once was! And have to say competively priced when compared to neighbouring establishments. The staff also merrily serve up consistently good coffee just how we like it, strong with taste and decaf. Perhaps unassuming for some the place has a friendly and welcoming ambience that makes for a memorable experience and a return visit sometime soon.

Been here often and never disappointed, food is excellent and the service is very friendly. We had a fish and chips meal and a bacon steak with mash and gravy and they were both delicious. Would highly recommend a visit and we will be going again.

We have always loved visiting here as a family.. The fish and chips always goes down well,we take my 3 year old grandson who loves it when the fabulous staff bring him over the coloring stuff.. Always a pleasent experience and tasty food... The waitress Kelly always has a smile on her face and nothing is ever too much trouble.

This used to be one of the best cafes in the area. However in the last 12 months the standards have fallen. The large fish and chips now comes as small. The staff are rude and customer service is absent. Asked for salt and was told to get my own as they only fill up the pot of condiments on the tables from what other customers leave. When ordering I was told off for not grtying a table number - there was just one other table occupied. They charge 60p extra for drinks with soya milk. This is discrimination for anyone with milk allergy or just preference and they don't discount the dairy milk they don't use. I have only come across this is one other cafe - Boskins in Tarleton

We called in for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed. I had the special of a mixed grill,it includes lamb chop, gammon,steak, sausage,veg and chips. It was well cooked and nicely presented. My wife had a large poached salmon salad which she really enjoyed. Our daughter had an excellent all day full English breakfast. We would certainly visit again

Visited the 6th September, my husband enjoyed his breakfast, the coffees were lovely but my tuna mayonnaise sandwich on granary was awful. The bread was wet, the tuna was of poor quality and smelt. I was really disappointed for 8.95 all I ate was the salad and spoonful of coleslaw.

Visited Sweep’s today for the first time in a while, food still fabulous, really good portions and service was great too. The cakes looked amazing but we were full from our meal. Lovely, relaxing catch up with family. Next time I will leave room for cake!

We visited sweeps for afternoon tea, they had an offer on for only £10 per person, very fast service, beautifully presented and girls all lovely. Got checked on and offered boxes for remaining cakes we couldn’t manage. Eveyone smiley and helpful. I come often but was my friends first time and she said she would be back for fish and chips as they looked amazing. Can’t recommend sweeps enough.

Strange experience. Ordered lunch for family (£50 approx) and asked for some iced water for the table (in addition to drinks). I was refused this request as I was told they didn’t have a tap. I questioned this with both the young staff, but both reiterated that they didn’t have a tap. I thought this was a legal requirement and I had never known a restaurant without access to cold water. The staff didn’t seem bothered but suggested I would have to buy individual bottled water - which I did. Not sure this would pass Health and Safety. (aside from the dirty tables, food, napkins on the floor and customers having to clear their own plates between courses - we saw 2 tables having to do this before tea and cake arrived. Customer service = zero. At no stage did anyone even speak to us after delivering the food- no one asked if food was ok, if we wanted tea/coffee/cake to follow. Very surreal. Tried to email management on website, but only a phone number, no email address. How can any cafe, restaurant refuse a paying customer tap water. This review has nothing to do with money, it’s the principle, as my elderly parents are not from a ‘bottled water’ culture.

We love this place! As a family we come to Sweeps Cafe every Sunday morning without fail for a great and filling breakfast! The food is always amazing and you get great value for money. The staff are lovely and go above and beyond to keep our little ones entertained with lots of smiles and colouring pens and paper. The cakes are unreal and we often buy a selection to take home for the afternoon, our daughter especially loves the chocolate cake!

Can I give a big shout out for Sweeps Cafe within Sootys Garden Centre? My goddaughter and I went for lunch last Wednesday. Despite it being very busy the order was taken promptly and are food was served quickly. I had my favourite, the fish and chips, which were as delicious as ever. We were sat very close to the desserts cabinet and everything kept winking at me . I decided on the Cherry Cheesecake. I can honestly say it was heaven on a plate! The best cheesecake I’ve ever tasted! I’d highly recommend Sweeps Cafe.

The food is excellent at Sweep’s Cafe and great value. The staff are always helpful and friendly. We go as a family at least once a week and will continue to do so. You won’t find better food at such a good price anywhere else.

Firstly the food is now mediocre at best. Not to the standard of what it once was. Uncooked black pudding on a full English, what a delight. If it had been less cooked it would be oinking at me to save it. Toast was burnt to a crisp even with butter it was like eating a a pair of sandals. Food wise even Bear Grylls would have a job tackling it. Maybe a suggestion for a bush tucker trial on Im A Celeb, bring in a bit more cash for the owners. A hot chocolate that’s on the takeaway menu but I can’t take away, where’s the logic in that? Talk about false advertising. Upsetting really as I was excited to indulge in a lovely hot chocolate on the road. On a brighter note the lovely waitress was willing to replace it with no fuss at all bringing some hope back to visit. As for the staff the front of house couldn’t be any more helpful but seem to be under some sort of conformance to not show any emotion as to how they’re actually feeling. Come on we all have good and bad days but the overpressure of owners and managers just isn’t good to be showing off in front of the customers. It doesn’t take a genius to see that you’re understaffed on occasions, but that to me doesn’t seem like an opportunity for staff to be pushed beyond their limits of being treated like they’re sheep and the sheep dogs have been set upon them. In a business such as a cafe where loyal staff is hard to come by, it’s clear the staff are under appreciated on busy days whereas they should be viewed as assets and equal opportunists earning a wage for a company they enjoy working for. It really is a shame.

Lovely afternoon tea, very reasonably priced. We got there for 2pm and it was chaos, staff where friendly just run off their feet, if I go again it would definitely be around 3.Only down side is they don’t really accommodate children for the afternoon tea so we ended up taking a lot of it home so I’d get a child’s meal next time.

Go here regularly but on several occasions visit has been spoiled by 'background' music being too loud or totally in appropriate. For example, looking forward to a quiet chill out morning coffee, ears were instead blasted with some type of loud, brain shredding mariachi type album - horrendous. On previous visits have politely requested loud music be turned down, and waitress has obliged, but, then it seems to go up again!Therefore shall not be subjecting our ears to this torture again. Tip for management: Choose music appropriate to the time of day/ clientele - silence would sometimes be good!

We have been here many times, but it wasn’t our plan for today, but our first two stops were closed on Mondays.....so we know it’s a good choice!
