Suwanna in West Oxfordshire

The whole family’s been coming here for years and the food is always good. Very consistent with the flavour, hot food served on hot plates and some nice editions added now and again. The staff are very knowledgeable about the food, delivered in good time and always with a smile. ( the owner should learn from them because I don’t think I’ve seen her smile once) If the restaurant had proper menu’s, not those grubby take-a-way ones and the lighting could be dimmed a touch it would be a five star review. Smile and turn the lights down.

Our first visit here and it was the best Thai meal we have had in this country.It is a large restaurant and nearly full on a Wednesday, so always a good sign. The starters and main course we had were excellent, staff were helpful and efficient.

Such a shame to have to say this as have been dining here for a long time, but one of the waitresses was so rude towards our party that it has completely put me off going again!

This place is lovely, the food is fresh and authentic, service good, food arrived in good time. Overall a great experience, the only thing we thought was they should have a proper menu instead of using the take away leaflets that were a bit worn out.

This was one of the best Thai meals I’ve had in a long time. Excellent food and likewise service. Can’t recommend enough!

My wife an I have been eating here for over ten years. The food was OK but the service has become awful. We cracked a silly joke with our server about the sweets served with the bill. She stared, said “just pay” “she was tired” and “we were lucky to be here”. Well done for losing faithful customers. Won’t be back.

Visited with friends recently. The food was not pleasant and poor choices for vegans . The table mats were kitchen roll and my friends were charged for the boxes to to take their leftovers home ! Not a pleasant experience.

What a wonderful place. The staff are very welcoming and extremely helpful. The food is fantastic, always cooked to perfection. The service is always really good and they never forget you when visiting again. Everything is always first class and can’t be faulted. Absolutely love it.

We’ve travelled to Thailand and had amazing food and I have to say the food in this restaurant is lovely and plenty of choice, the staff are very friendly and happy to help and advise on foods. Would recommend this restaurant for eating in or taking away to anyone who love Thai food.

I went here tonight after arriving at Witney for work. It was the only place open at 9.30 pm and the smell drew me in. The menu is quite vast and reminds me of an old school Chinese take away menu with lots of choice with different meats and fish etc. Decor was quite authentic and the service was good too. I had prawn Thai green curry and egg fried rice. Can’t say much for the rice (it felt like the reheated type), but the curry itself was amazing There was an eclectic mix of people in there but in general a nice place to dine

The food was so good here, particularly the starters. Really recommend the corn fritters, they were absolutely the best Ive ever had. Service is friendly. We significantly over ordered but can’t regret it because everything was so tasty.

Whether it's green curry or pad thai, this restaurant is the most authentic Thai food served for MILES around... Thai Khun? Giggling squid? No, not a patch on Suwanna. We've eaten in ( their set lunch for a great price is great ) eaten takeaway on many occasions, and whatever you choose is prepared quick and is absolutely as it should be. eat in, and imagine yourself in a backstreet cafe in Bangkok. The only thing missing is the heat!

Second visit here, and again, I can’t fault it. The staff are chatty, friendly and happy to bring endless water and offer to get more drinks. Food was fabulous…. 4 of us shared the starter platter on the set meal and loved it. A mix of green curry, pad Thai, duck and beef dishes were absolutely delicious. It’s probably my favourite cuisine, Thai, and this didn’t disappoint. Thank you again.

Great food, friendly and fast service. I have only been here a handful of times but whenever I go there I feel I have been remembered and am a valuable customer. The food is really great. A great selection of beers, Singha, Chang. A good selection of other drinks, including wonderful Thai whiskies. I have an allergy to onions (which some restaurants treat as if it is not a serious allergy) but the staff at Suwanna are always careful to adjust dishes to this problem. A genuinely lovely place to have a meal with friends or family.

You place an order at 7pm and they say to collect at 7.45pm, fine as it's a Friday and busy. When you eventually get your food at 8.15pm then that's not so good. The food was excellent, just the right amount of spice but just need to be a bit more realistic when telling their customers collection times. Customer after me had been waiting even longer!

Staying in the area and decided would have Thai instead of going to a pub. So glad we did. Excellent food and great service. Shame I am not local or we would be back regularly

We booked a table for 4 earlier that day and managed to get in- being a Friday evening. Service was good and our waitress had a good sense of humour. Hats off to her as the restaurant was quite busy! The food was very good and we all enjoyed our meals. If we visited the area again we would rebook for sure. Lovely to go somewhere nice for a special treat! Thankyoul

We were staying across the road in The Fleece - so we booked a meal for Saturday night here - the restaurant was really quirky with carved wooden seating and tables (might be an idea if they had some seat cushions as my old bottom began to suffer from sitting on the wooden seat) but the service and food was fantastic - I loved that the menu had a chilli rating so I could see what to avoid as I don’t enjoy anything too HOT. We had a set menu and added an al a carte beef dish to it - the food was plentiful (much larger portions than I was expecting) and the flavours were fabulous. Would certainly recommend you give it a try .

This was the first time we tried this place and words can not explain how disgusting it was !!We rang up to complain about the smell of the food and that it was inedible and went straight in the bin.She was so argumentative it was unsane..Said we could go back and order something else but we would never set foot back in that disgusting place again !!

We have just taken delivery of our Thai TAKE AWAY and I am utterly shocked. The bill was just over £43.00 for the two of us and the food was absolutely disgusting. Tasteless chicken green curry, a few sluies of chicken breast thrown into some coconut milk. Foul. Revolting sticky rice. You'd be better off buying a M&S Thai meal deal for £10.00. Far better quality and superior taste.I'm surprised this restaurant is still in business!NEVER AGAIN

I don’t usually write reviews on restaurants but having even a witney local all my life have to say this is the best place for food I have ever eaten in the area. Everything from the spring rolls to the rice was cooked to perfection. Only criticism is that staff could be a little more friendly in order to create a more warm atmosphere, but overall experience was very enjoyable.

We thought we would give this place a second go after our last visit was not the best. The lady in charge is always so sharp, and once she gets her payment for the food, does not have the courtesy to say goodbye and thanks as you leave the restaurant. So we thought we would give it ago as it has been at least 9 months since we went last time.I called to book a table via my work laptop calling, the phone was picked up then hung up right away. I called back and after a few rings the lady answered in a suspicious way - so i said i would like to book a table - she replied why are you calling from London to book a table today? I said I am calling via my laptop, but I live in Witney - so the number may show London. She replied - oh that is why i hung up when you called the first time i thought London is a waste of time!! No apology for hanging up on a customer..We got to the restaurant, table was nice, ordered a bot of red house wine - their wine list is never correct, so whatever it says you ALWAYS get a different bottle to the one ordered. The RED wine was served in an ICE bucket!! When we placed our oder with the lady in charge, we asked that our veg come WITHOUT MUSHROOMS, and politely asked if she could take the ice bucket away..she laughed when she saw the ice bucket with red wine in it and said her waitress is new. Food was served WITH MUSHROOMS, so we picked them out because the restaurant was busy and trying to get their attention was like near impossible. The lady came back when we finished, she saw our plates had mushrooms and then i said we asked for no mushrooms.. her reply was - "Oh yes i saw they had put mushrooms on your order, but the chefs are too busy so i let it come out!!!" NO Apology - I said I am allergic to mushrooms and she said - OK!! We paid our bill, and as we left , she walked past us and put her eyes to the floor and did not say thanks or anything. So yes we will not be going back to that bad service.

I came here to meet a friend and loved it. A great wine list and really delicious authentic Thai food. The owner was really helpful with my dietary requirements and the menu is both extensive and delicious. The only Thai place in Witney as far as I know and a great one at that!

Thought I would give this restaurant a second chance from walking out in 2018. Arrived at booked time and after ordering food and drinks were told by the rude owner they wanted the table back in forty minutes and said we would have to have starter and main course together which was totally unacceptable. Certainly would not recommend and if I could give -1 star I would. AVOID AT ALL COST!

Visited here somewhat 'on-spec' great welcome, fantastic food and helpfully ensured we didn't over order (now that's a first!). Highly recommended you'll not be disapointed

We had booked a table for 2 and an infant, the owner promptly pointed out our child wasn’t welcome and they had no high chair so we went and got our push chair. 15 minutes into the meal she came over to our table and remarked our child had dropped food on the floor and clearly isn’t interested in eating. This made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome so we cut our meal short and would never return.

We have been loyal customers to Suwanna for many years and always recommended it for the food (if not the slightly haphazard service!) to our friends. However, on trying to book a table today, I was told this wasn't possible because we have a 3-year-old child. When asked why this was a problem, I was told 'because children make a mess'. Very taken aback at this unfriendly, unaccommodating attitude and will not be back. We were even trying to book at a time when few other adults would be around (5.30pm). Incredible. They have lost our custom. Plenty more good restaurants in Witney!

Excellent food I would highly recommend, we went for the set meal well worth it, big portions so took some home, will go again when we are back in the area, also the staff were amazing. Very clean place and covid safe.

First visit for a while and nothing has changed. The service is still excellent, atmosphere relaxed and the food is perfect. Every dish is flavourful and delicious, portion size is just right. Thank you so much!!!

Considering there were 30 of us they did extremely well, sat down quickly, drinks orders taken, no long wait for food. Choice of food was really good, service excellent. We all choice a variety of different foods, duck, beef, it was all excellent. Ideal place for a group, prices not bad. We were all well looked after, had a great night out.

The restaurant is nice and service was good. The only complaint about the restaurant is the super-cheesy Christmas music. We heard it played three times in total, which was three times too many.The food was fine - not exceptional, but okay. The only complaint would be the green curry which was just heat, without the depth of flavour you normally get with a good green curry.Prices were okay, apart from the prawn crackers, which were over-priced at more than £5 for a sharing portion.Would we go here again next time we are in Witney - probably not.

We had not been to this restaurant for quite some time so decided to go with our best friends.I really feel that we have missed out over the past few years.Very warm welcome and great table.We all had different starters and they were all lovely and plentiful.We were not rushed and we all ordered different main courses with a great choice of rices and noodles to go with it.The ladies enjoyed a cocktail and we had the Chang beer.Lovely meal and ambience backed up by great service.We certainly won’t leave it so long next time.

Our family has visited Suwanna about a dozen times in total. Friendly staff. Weeping Tiger dish is my favourite; I cannot remember if it was prawn or beef or both. Always lots of fresh delicious vegetables. The sauces they use taste fresh. The menu is also extensive and original. One is able to pair different combinations. The drinks are good too - I recommend the Thai Beer "Chang". They also have a cocktails menu but I wouldn't order off it except on special occasions because they're expensive: 4 years ago a (amazing tasting) Strawberry Daiquiri recipe was £6.95. Yeah, this is good as some places go, but I'm just trying to be critical about the prices of stuff here, which can be a bit on the steep side - hence the less amount of visits. It's a fantastic place however, and the food is the right side of divine. A hidden gem in the most traditional sense.

We booked a table and had lovely food but on finishing our meal we were asked to move tables twice, handed our bill and effectively asked to leave. We were happy to help them out as they were busy but, given that we’d booked a table, they we felt the attitude was overly officious.

Was so impressed by the reviews on here that I decided to visit whilst on a trip to Witney, unfortunately was sorely disappointed. Whilst the staff and service is impeccable, the food just does not live up to expectations. For starters we had the pork/prawn toast option, bizarre and very taste of prawn. We also had what we're descr9as really spicy chicken wings, there was no discernible spice and they were deep fried. For main, weeping tiger, overcooked, and pad Siew which had none of the usual thai flavours and did not have the usual pad Siew noodles. Wine menu limited and cheap but had a nice Sauvignon Blanc.

I’ve been here on a few occasions , and I can honestly say the food is the best , the service is also good , they manage to keep the same standards all the time , love this place and will always be going back for more , give it a try so worth it

Come here often and once again the chef prepared a beautiful meal for us last night. Cannot recommended this place highly enough for the fantastic menu. Once you try Thai food, it’s addictive. Love it. Staff are polite and efficient. Thank you.

First time at this restaurant, but we will definitely be back. The food was really good, especially the duck in honey! Amazing amount of choice. It was a busy Friday evening when we visited so service was a little slow, because the restaurant was full and there was also a stream of take-away customers coming in. Would definitely recommend.

The food here is great! Really good flavours and the meat was all cooked to perfection. Also you get 20% off the bill when you pay with cash – I think it’s just for takeaways but that is a real bonus!

Thai is one of my favourite cuisines and this was far below par compared to most. The food left a bitter aftertaste, the rice was under-cooked and everything needed some salt in it. The potatoes tasted like they had come out of a can. It wasn't the amazing journey of tastes I usually associate with Thai food.

We were seated quite promptly however slightly delay on getting our drinks ordered and delivered.

We ate at this restaurant without having made a booking. It was early evening on a Friday and the restaurant had prior bookings for the evening but they still managed to squeeze us in.

Came over from Oxford to try this Thai restaurant. Spacious, comfortable, very nice dishes. Attentive staff. A pleasant experience.

Wonderful tasty food, good portions,couldn’t finish ours. Didn’t book a table, although was quite busy, we were seated and waited on by very happy helpful staff who were attentive without being overbearing. Love the place.

Last minute choice to warm our bones on a very wintery night and was definitely the right choice. Really food, very attentive and friendly staff. Would return next time in Witney.

The food is good, and they are nice people. They do take away if you collect it. But they can be very busy, and a bit random about what they bring you.

Used to visit this place very very regularly but had not been for approx three years.

Great meal, a huge menu. Arguably the menu is a little too much to take in and it would be nice to split into starters mains and sides as we had not ordered tha i too many times before and genuinely did not even see starters on the menu. All was great quality though and very tasty.

A great evening out and the food is tasty. Its not the cheapest but you get what you pay for, Its very popular. You wont be disappointed going here

Had a super anniversary meal here. Attentive and helpful staff, excellent food, sad we don’t live nearer!!

The restaurant has a good decor and atmosphere, and seemed popular. The hostess was most welcoming and friendly. The food was excellent, being light and full of flavour.

Had a really lovely meal in here. All food was hot, plenty of it and lots of flavours going on! Reasonable prices and staff were very welcoming.... need I go on, just go and visit you won’t be disappointed!

We had the most fabulous meal in a very long time last night. Excellent service, excellent food, very reasonably priced. Could not fault it whatever. Just a shame we don’t live nearer to visit more often. Please go and enjoy!

We eat out at Thai places a lot and found that this place is one of the best around. The food is fresh, tasty and plentiful and the atmosphere and staff are first-rate. Of particular note the Pad Thai and beef never sober ... a great mix of sweet, sour, salty and spicy served in generous portions and piping hot. The staff are happy to describe the dishes on the menu and alter the heat to specific requirements. The meal we had tonight was faultless and we’d be happy to travel from London (where we live) to Witney just to eat the Pad Thai alone.

Thai food is a favourite of ours and we found ourselves at this lovely restaurant whilst on a weekend visit away. The atmosphere of the restaurant is lovely with rustic seating and traditional Thai carvings. The staff are friendly, courteous and attentive without being obtrusive. We opted for the banquet for two. The starters were lovely and very fresh tasting. We opted for beef never sober, pork with chilli garlic and basil and pad Thai. I’ve eaten a lot of Thai food in the U.K. and in Thailand and the Pad Thai is the nicest I think I’ve ever had. The pork and beef were really tasty with a good balance of salty, sweet, heat and sour and fragrant with Thai basil and fresh ginger. The staff were happy to explain each dish and were also happy to adjust the heat of the dishes to our palates. It was a faultless meal. We live over an hour’s drive away usually and would definitely make the journey out and back to eat here again even though our local Thai restaurant is also an excellent place to eat. Portions are huge ... we are big eaters and couldn’t finish our food, it’s well priced for the quality of food that you get.

My husband and I ate here this week after moving back to the area recently. We last ate here a few years ago and the food then was delicious. This visit did not disappoint! The food and drink was fantastic and the staff were lovely. We can’t wait to come back or grab a takeaway!

Booked that afternoon for 1830, restaurant was relatively quiet. Service was good, the food was outstanding had several dishes between us, everyone was pleased. I particularly enjoyed the tom kha soup and the duck red curry. Sticky rice and coconut rice were an excellent additions. Price was very reasonable. I have been before and would definitely go back again.

It’s rare to find a decent Thai in the Uk that actually tastes authetic. Fantastic vegan options and very friendly staff

We are local to Suwanna and eat here every few months. The food is consistently good - we like the spring rolls, chicken satay and sweetcorn cakes especially. Service is always prompt, friendly, and welcoming. I feel very happy eating here alone as a woman on the occasions when I've done so, and have been well looked after. A friendly, family business - we have never struggled to get a table. Not sure about the signs regarding children only being welcome under certain circumstances though - this isn't a terribly welcoming thing to arrive to (even though we don't have children of our own) - and I feel like it would probably be self-policing in any case? Perhaps something to re-consider?

Went here with friends on a Friday night. The women in charge was very helpful and friendly. Nice atmosphere inside. We went for the set banquet which was excellent. We were given a huge bowl of prawn crackers to start. The banquet was very filling and we didn't manage to eat it all. The toilets were clean and modern. I can recommend this restaurant.

A favourite Thai of ours and a birthday lunch on Monday, we were shocked to see the restaurant empty at lunchtime! Seriously Witney, eat something nutritious at lunch and forgo the local crappy pubs!!

From September to December 2017 I was in Witney for at least two days every week for business. I came to Suwanna for dinner at least once every week.

Very good Thai restaurant for to of you for starters and mains and 2 drinks will come to about £50 but the food is lovely definitely worth it

Often come here for lunch on my own. They are busy in the kitchen preparing for the evening service but not too busy in the restaurant. Peace and quiet to read the paper and have some exceptionally good food. Normally around 3 times a week for me. Spicy chicken wings to start. Thai Green or 81 with seafood or even a Never Sober Noodle main. Beautifully prepared by chefs that know what they’re doing.

Had a lovely meal here. Service was good and food was spot on as always. Really enjoyed it. Would recommend.

We had a table booked for 7.30pm of Friday night, it took 45 minutes to get our starter and 1.5 hrs to get the main course after the starter. I asked the waitress what was going on and she said they only had one chef!

My friends and I come here at least twice a month and we order the SAME thing every time. Yes, we may be boring, but the Never Sober Noodle is delicious!

Firstly I was asked to book under my first name. The décor is very Asian, in keeping with the Thai theme & the staff were attentive. The food was almost good enough to consider moving to live in Witney just to be closer! Maybe it would be improved by using a food warmer, since our portions were almost cold by the end of our meal. I advise you book, even midweek it was very busy and rightly so.

Never been a fan of Thai food but we wanted to give this place a try. Was not disappointed great food and service will use again.

We were looking for a Chinese restaurant although a Thai would also be agreeable. However, at first we only saw 5 Indian restaurants and had to ask a local who pointed us in the direction of the Suwanna. It was a Friday lunchtime but while the town was quite crowded, the restaurant was empty on arrival but others diners came in after us.

We arrived around 6.30pm on a Saturday evening without a booking. We were made to feel welcome and told we had the table until 8pm which was fair enough as we hadn't booked. The drinks and food were served efficiently but without a smile. Food was good but my husband had a beef dish marked as medium heat but it was more mild. I had chicken with cashew nuts and mushroom and it was lovely. We had egg fried roc and two of my party thought it had been microwaved…. Overall, happy with the meal.

Loved this odd little place, the tables and chairs are a bit basic, the decor is unusual. However, the food was lovely, tasty and interesting, I would certainly return for more.

We stayed near Witney for a night and were looking for somewhere to eat. We came across this delightful restaurant, hadn't booked, but were warmly welcomed. The food was attractively presented, very flavoursome and of reasonable proportion. The restaurant itself although looking more like a shop from the road opens out into a large attractive and pleasant room. We spent an agreeable couple of hours here and would reccommend it to anyone who loves or wants to try Thai cuisine

We used to eat here regularly and although service was rather swift we enjoyed a good meal there many times.Last two times it was rushed, unfriendly staff and the food substandard. The egg fried rice was microwaved and the bowl so hot you couldn't touch it with bare hands. No serving spoons in the dishes. The starters were dripping with oil. Real shame- also the front of the restaurant could do with a good clean.We were supposed to eat there in two weeks time but have cancelled and rearranged....

As my husband had never been to a Thai restaurant I decided to treat him whilst we were in Witney. We arrived shortly after it opened so it was fairly quiet but we were given helpful suggestions on dishes to try by the waitress. We were certainly not disappointed and every dish was well presented and delicious and we didn't have to wait long either. We were both very full by the time we left and extremely impressed. By the time we left the restaurant it was filling up. We so enjoyed our meal that we promised ourselves that we would certainly come back again.

Really tasty food, delivered quickly, given how busy it was (I think there was a beer festival on). Really filling too. One of the best Thai restaurants that we've ever visited!

Visited on a weekday evening so there were few diners at the time. Authentic and many pescatarian-vegetarian options were available on the extensive menu including a nice wine list. Fresh and absolutely delicious meals were promptly served by a very friendly and attentive staff at reasonable prices for generous servings. Highly recommend!

My first Thai restaurant experience and I loved it. The service was great and the food was tasty. Unfortunately I can't name what I ate, but my starter was a prawn ball in a sauce which was nice & my main was a duck and coconut milk type curry with steamed rice. That too was delicious but very hot (chilli hot) I loved the Chang beer too. We had a fab night & I would go again.

Friendly service and an extensive menu with the staff flexible with adding extras to their standard dishes.Prices reasonable and drinks. It overpriced.The hot banana fritter and ice cream dessert was huge.Excellent Tom Yum soup with large king prawns - very flavoursome - and the main course portions were very generous in size. Prompt service throughout. Highly recommended.
