Not as big as most Fullers pubs and a limited menu. Having said that, all the items on the menu looked very tempting. We ordered hummus (with pitta and black olives) and a charcuterie board for 2. Both were delicious and good value. Both the ladies behind the bar were really helpful and pleasant (this is not a given in central London pubs). One helped us take our supper to the upstairs "Wine Room" - a very quiet oasis of a room. A very nice evening. We wnat to go back to try the toasties and the Scotch eggs.

A small and very traditional pub provided an enjoyable evening drink. The bar staff are very friendly and welcoming and there’s a good range of drinks on offer. It’s also great that they have a wine tasting machine - purchase a card and dispense as much or little of each bottle to sample different varieties. Just a shame there weren’t many bottles included. The atmosphere is relaxing, with no background music and the small size means there isn’t much chatter. Toilets are upstairs along with another space. My only complaint would be the very high prices - a double gin and glass of wine came to almost thirty pounds which felt very excessive. But otherwise I’d recommend for a relaxing and peaceful evening.

We went here early evening on our way to the Charterhouse Open Garden evening. It was nice to stop here for a beer and we found it to be a relaxing atmosphere with comfy chairs. There were very few people in here at this time but perhaps this was due to the train strike on that day. The staff were friendly and efficient.

We came in to shelter from the rain, and only ordered coffee and tea, but this was willingly given and the filer coffee was excellent. Had we not been meeting elsewhere for lunch I'd certainly have had a pint of bitter here. It obviously serves City suits well - it's just round the corner from the Barbican - and is deservedly popular without being crowded. The staff we saw were young and cheery. A good find.

Went here for a quick drink before a booking for afternoon tea at a well known nearby hotel/restaurant. I liked this traditional pub and the staff were very welcoming and keen to let me know about the different lagers on offer. The smell from the toasties was delicious and I think we would have stayed, except of the booking we already had nearby. There was an eclectic mix of people - it was busy but not overcrowded. We will definitely go back and try the toasties.

Sean welcomed us Yanks, as we stumbled into the Sutton Arms asking what toasties were? He handed us a menu and asked where we'd like to sit. I asked if they had wine and he led us upstair to the cutest wine bar over looking the streets of London. He recommended Pot PIe (not Chicken Pot Pie from Marie Calendar's!) We also got a toastie to share, (grilled pastrami and cheese sandwich) on crack! So good with the local beer. We got full service from Sean as we were the only patrons in the wine bar...oh the wine bar, high tech self service, cool and innovative but I like to have my wine poured from a bottle better. We left feeling satisfied and educated about British food and culture. Thanks Sean for a great time!

My friend and I happened upon this pub by chance. We had already been in one pub and when we asked if the draught cider was suitable for Vegans, we were given a shrug and told that they weren't sure. So you can imagine my Vegan friend's delight that the manager on duty at this pub took the time to look it up and assured her that it was suitable as well as some of their wines. The decor and atmosphere in this pub was lovely: no fruit machines or noisy music, just a great place to unwind and have a chat. I really wishes that I hadn't already eaten as the list of hand made grilled cheese sandwiches looked amazing, I particularly liked the look of the mushroom, Taleggio and truffle oil sandwich. I saw some coming out and they looked delicious - maybe if they did a Vegan cheese one, my friend could join me. The staff were really friendly and took the time to chat. I will come back and if you are in the Smithfield area, I suggest you give it a try.

Cosy pub close to The Charterhouse and for fans of Agatha Christie, the house from the "Poirot" series :) It's a Fullers pub, wich means that theres always good beers on the tap. About 4 cask ales, and then all the rest. Very helpful waitress, who helped with the tube. It was early in the day, so we did not try the kitchen, but had some snacks. They do a lot of snacks, from pickled eggs to pistachios via pickled onions with more.

This used to be a proper old fashioned London pub with good food at reasonable prices, a good selection of well kept beers and fantastic staff. It's changed. The refurbishment has made it look swish and less grungy and the staff are pleasant and polite but it's more a gastro bar than a pub. There is a good beer selection and a wide range of Belgian beers. The food menu wasn't fully formed but the deluxe cheese and ham toasties was very good indeed if priced closed to 7 pounds. On the whole it was a pleasant experience and I'll go back but it's not an old fashioned pub anymore. One point of note is that they were installing an enomatic machine as they expect to be offering some premium wines by the glass. I'll miss the old staff and simple menu but it's by no means a disaster for the customer.

Quirky little pub tucked away behind Barbican station, landlord/owner always polite and friendly, decent sized portions and reasonably priced. Never seems to be busy so if you’re looking for somewhere you’re almost guaranteed to get a table for a quiet lunchtime catch up I would say to give this a try. Nothing fancy by any means, but you get what you pay for - and the goats cheese tart is always a winner, very generous on the goats cheese. They do limited menu adjustments for food allergies (items removed, but not items added). Wish I was able to give a 3.5/5 rating because it needs to be a bit more lively to get a 4/5.

A good old fashioned 'traditional' pub! Does exactly what it says on the tin - pleasant staff, great food and no pretentious decoration as with so many other pubs. Found this haven on a walk out from the stuffy office, wasn't busy when we entered but soon filled up. Our food was excellent and the barman described the choice of wine instead of shoving a wine menu in our hand! What service! Lovely welcome by everyone too - the barman was lovely, the guy who I'm guessing did the cooking passed by our table and asked how they were and as we were half way out the door the lady behind the bar shouted out a thank you - exactly how I like to be treated. The Sutton Arms is a decent pub for adults who enjoy good bitters or stronger, continental, lagers. It's run on the basis of how pubs should be run and attracts a clientele of a variety of backgrounds who want to pop in, enjoy a pint and a good, solid, bite to eat. No horse brasses but kept tidy and authentic with a great jazz mix of music that is gently interesting rather than in your face. Service is just right: talkative if you want to have a chat, reserved if you just want to read the paper. For me, although the beer is great, the main selling points are the lunches and bar snacks. The Sutton Arms puts together one of London's best bacon and tomato sarnies with chips - as well as other, most enjoyable lunches. It could be seldom said that I would be full (which is an ugly word but accurate!) but the the bacon and tomato is world class! Enjoy this place, it's an increasingly rare find in London nowadays. Five stars are there because it does what a pub should do!

Meeting a good friend for a couple of hours csatch up before shewent to a play at the Barbican, The Sutton Arms was perfect - just round the corner from Barbican Tube! Extremely friendly staff were very welcoming; we sat in the trio of red plush (seats go up!) cinema seats (possibly c1940's; we didn't get the history!) and the ghours flew by. We enjoyed a snack of their roast potato wedges; huge portions and delicious. later on, we enjoyed a meal - the salads were fresh, tasty and accompanied - a goat's cheese and onion tart or a prawn baguetter - we split and shared ... our third person enjoyed a steak meal and it was delicious. Because I have a derelict hip the upstairs loo was going to defeat me and so one of the staff extremely kindly went "next door" and I was permitted to use their ground floor facility (a Russian/Armenian restaurant, spotless and very welcoming!!) Nothing was too much trouble; we would wholeheartedly recommend The Sutton Arms above all the places in the Barbican!!! And, because Barbican station has lots of horrid steps, there was a very useful bus stop which took us away andeventually home - brilliant!

Was in the capital on a walkabout just taking in the ambience of this wonderful city when my thoughts turned to liquid refreshments and is when I spotted the Sutton Arms. Its frontage reminds me of a Charles Dickens illustration of a Victorian shop this is what intrigued me to enter. On entering I found a seat and made my way to the bar and drooled over the many different ales that were on tap I did sample a coupe that I had never seen before then going on to my favourite tipple Guinness and may I say they serve a good pint of the old black stuff.
