Terrible experience. I booked the table for 14th February on their website and received confirmation. Today some rude person called me saying that I need to pay £20 deposit over the phone and agreed to set menu which was nowhere stated on their website. Then I received the cancellation email to my inbox! Sort your reservations system and do not call people for the deposit just asked them while they book online. Avoid!!

While the food was enjoyable when it finally arrived, the experience was overshadowed by a 1-hour and 15-minute wait for the main courses. The service was disappointing, particularly from the older waiter with glasses, who showed a lack of emotional intelligence and crisis management skills. While the restaurant had a pleasant ambiance, the noise level was excessive.

I have been going to Le Petit Aubergine for over 20 years. Until my last visit (January 2025), I have always thoroughly enjoyed the food, ambience and service. Unfortunately, on this occasion when I requested the bill and informed the staff member that I had a ‘Tastecard’, he informed me that he needed to speak to the manager. The female manager then popped her head around a corner (did not come to the table). She proceeded to shout at me (the entire restaurant could hear & indeed everyone ceased eating) that I did not mention ‘Tastecard’ when I made the reservation and ‘as it is Company Policy’ there was nothing she could do. She emphasized, that she had answered my telephone reservation, and recalled the detail of our conversation, which I was aware, but unwilling to accept that I had informed her I had a ‘Tastecard’. I have used a ‘Tastecard’ in the restaurant for 20 years. A hugely unnecessarily embarrassing situation. Perhaps of case, where recollections may differ. This may be a one-off situation but despite 20 years attending this restaurant I would not return, nor would I recommend. The risks associated with such a volatile manager are too great and will only ensure that a diner will again be subjected to such a public humiliation. To add, the manager insisted that I lied when I made the reservation, ensuring everyone in the restaurant could hear. The manager tried to make excuses “I am busy”. Her attitude was aggressive, rude and so incredibly astounding, I just wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible.

We eat here regularly on Arsenal match days. The food is always delicious and the service prompt and helpful. Especially good are the mussels, the crevettes, the crepes, their pate and the steaks. I don’t often dine in that part of town, but when I knew I’d be near Angel for a concert, Le Petite Auberge was the first place that came to mind. I hadn’t been there in over 10 years, so I was thrilled to discover it was still there. The atmosphere, ambiance, staff, and food were just as I remembered them—like reconnecting with an old friend: comfortable, easy, and a delight to return to. The food was wonderful. I started with the Salade de Chèvre Chaud and followed with the Entrecôte Grillée—just as delicious as I remembered. I cannot recommend this charming restaurant highly enough. It’s a gem, and I won’t let so much time pass before my next visit.

Standard French style food. Super busy and very, very noisy. Our starters came quickly and were good, but then had to wait over an hour for our mains. We had ordered the Xmas dinner. The turkey was ok, the broccoli & carrots were good. The toast parsnip was hard and tasted like it had been boiled then briefly fried in oil. Awful. The roast potatoes were lukewarm, hard inside and inedible. Overall not good.

This is on oldie in Upper Street, but the quality of the food is somehow in decline. We had a lovely Bourguignon de Légumes, but also a salad where all the greens were heated. There might be different views on salads, but microwaved lettuce is not part of French cuisine. The Tarte Tatin was an insult: some microwaved pieces of apple instead. The beauf bourguignon was not amazing, too big pieces of meat that were not tender. We asked the waiter to tell us what the dish was like and he very reluctantly said it was a stew. Very good french restaurant in central London. The lunch and evening set menus give an excellent choice if you don't know what to go for. The waiters are friendly and helpful. Very good place to bring some friends who want to discover French cuisine that is different than one carrot in a plate for 100 £. Only down side is that the wines are expensive - only the Bordeaux is good (subjective opinion).

1) No-one at the door to greet. Standing in the entrance waiting over a minute for someone to notice you, isn’t a comfortable feeling, anywhere. 2) No acknowledgement that a reservation had been made. Tucked onto a small corner table between the bar and the door. 3) Asked for 2 of the cocktail of the day (Limoncello Spritzers). Waiter checked twice what we’d ordered (and it was written on the board at the bar), but brought to shots of Limoncello. At £10.50p each, they were not a good choice. 4) After reading the menu for 5-6 mins we gave our order, only to be told that Mussels (their speciality) was no longer available. We had booked because it is a favourite of mine, and it was my birthday. Should really have just left, but… 5) Ordered a champagne pate and sea bream which were listed as specials of the day. The ‘champagne pate’ was in fact a tough duck and peppercorn terrine served with a couple of pieces of toasted bread. The bream was cooked well and served on a bed of warm crunchy vegetables, but for some reason rocket leaves were then added which was unnecessary. Mashed potato was a stodgy gloop. 6) We didn’t stay for dessert. It was just a disappointing experience, when with a bit more thought, attention to detail (vital in hospitality) and honesty about the food would have been appreciated.
