Great food and excellent service.

Extremely good lunch at the Petit Auberge. Having been here a few times over the years, they never fail to provide fantastic food and brilliant service, but this was my first daytime visit, and my first time bringing work colleagues. The lunchtime three-course menu had enough choice for everyone, and we were served promptly while not being rushed. We chose from the weekday set lunch menu which was great value for money, though we were tempted to go with the à la carte menu which was also available. I should also add that the staff changed the booking to add an extra guest, and accommodated a couple of us arriving late with no problems at all. Highly recommended.

I went there for my birthday dinner. We ordered prawns ( 6 crevettes a l ails)) only 2 plates out of the six was fresh. My friends end up having food poisoning and no member of staff tried to help even after being alerted which is wrong and then at the end had to pay the full bill and all of this occurred while the manager was absent. We all know how bad unfresh prawns can be.

Absolutely fantastic meal we had at this authentic French restaurant. The staff take so much good care of you as you arrive they are helpful with ordering and the service is exceptional. The food is amazing. I had the French snails and the toulouse sausages with a side of creamy mash. It is so delicious I am looking forward to coming back again.

We had such a lovely meal here, fantastic wine, charcuterie, stuffed chicken and steak were delicious, finished off with crepe Suzette! We've been there again and it was even better! Duck, salmon, lamb, moules all delicious and such a warm welcome

Great food as always. Some of the best and most authentic French restaurants in London. Mussels and Onion Soup are a must have.

All round good experience. Deffo order blue if you want rare on the steaks though. Filet de Boeuf was good, snails were good and frogs legs aight. Staff were very good!

I have been visiting La Petite Auberge for about 15 years. It is one of my favourite neighbourhood restaurants in London. The food is hearty and fantastic, the wine list good and the service is always excellent and very friendly. You never feel rushed and nothing is ever a problem. We visited this weekend for Mother's Day and where other places often have pricier set menus for these occasions, here the Sunday special menu was still running and we had a brilliant time. I would never hesitate to recommend La Petite Auberge. I've even visited with friends from France who have remarked on how authentic and excellent the food is.

Best non-expensive French restaurant in London. I have had lunch and dinner there since 2020 and was never disappointed. The steak with peppercorn sauce and fries is always on point. I also recommend the whitebait and the fried brie. I need to try the crepes at some point as they look delicious.

Absolutely impeccable food and service!! Definitely would recommend the snails, sea bass and filet steak- absolutely delicious!!! Not only were the staff friendly and accommodating, but they surprised me with a lovely prosecco cocktail for my birthday🥹. Huge thanks to the whole team for an intimate and authentic french dining experience. Couldn’t recommend more!!

Visited on a Sunday evening for a quick dinner. The steak with green peppercorn sauce was fabulous and the confit duck very good too. Cosy atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Exceptionally disappointing lunch and a disgrace to French cuisine. We had the escargots, fried brie, mussels in cream sauce and salmon. The cream sauce was devoid of any flavour, as was the salmon. The brie was overpowered by the fried coating and the cranberry sauce. The escargots were the best dish but it is hard for anyone to screw up a garlic butter sauce. The service was as lackluster as the food. It goes without saying that we will not be returning.

Oh dear it looked so nice in the photos and the reviews were promising. It was a Wednesday night and I’m not sure the waitress was too happy to be working there as she was not friendly. The food was average at best. Cafe Gourmand profiterole tasted old. Toilet area looked tired & in need of maintenance 1 door did not close so avoided that. So many restaurants in the area so I would not return.

A lovely little gem in north London, my go to resto for any nice quick luncheons, the set menu for lunch is truly an offer, don't be afraid to try the meat of the day.

Loved this restaurant! Moules frites were gorgeous and the chocolate sauce on the profiterols was exceptional. Very reasonably priced one too.

We had a scrumptious dinner tonight. Staff were very welcoming with a big smile as you enter the restaurant. And then we had a delicious and very satisfying food. The quality, the variety, the portions and the taste is just perfect. I had 'Jarret De Porc Chasseur" for the main. it was really tasty and a huge portion. Ideal if you are hungry as I was.. A minor point, my starter prawn and crab meat based starter was a bit too cold. It could have been warmed up or if served at room temperature, it would have been even better. Then I had a freshly made tasty banana crape hand cooked in front you. Overall a great place to dine and relax. Atmosphere was just cosy and relaxing. I would like to return again very soon! Thanks to all the staff for an atentive service.

A beautiful restaurant inside and good food. We were overcharged for an extra bottle of wine and I don’t think the manager was particularly fazed when we mentioned it. Would’ve appreciated a bit more regard in the service, otherwise a good experience

We were a party of 12 with 6 children for a triple birthday (approx). The restaurant gave us the upper floor where we could relax without disturbing others. Service, including cleaning up after an eating incident with the baby, was excellent. Food as usual was very good and we all enjoyed the event.

La petite Auberge has very ambient atmosphere. We enjoyed an impeccable service and tasty meals. Sizeable portions. We chose the restaurant, because we love French cuisine. Thank you. Happily will return again.

a friend and I, both French, came to enjoy some nice French food. Unfortunately for us, we were disappointed. The snails were a little rubbery, the meat too dry and the apples in the crepe undercooked. Cannot recommend.

Service was great and they was very accommodating, however starters came out cold and main meal wasn't cooked to order so had to send to send it back.

Very disappointing lunch at La Petite Auberge. Being French myself I was really excited about having a nice French meal, but the crepe was so sad looking, barely had anything inside really, maybe a thin slice of ham and couldn’t taste any cheese (probably used mozzarella which had no taste?). My partner’s chicken was okay, but the breast was a bit dry and everything just felt flat and underwhelming. We then waited ages to get the bill as no one was coming our way, or they just never looked at us and walked straight by whenever we tried to signal them.

An easy 5 stars from me! La Petite Auberge smashed it out the park. Delicious food, kind staff and a great atmosphere. One of the members of staff even asked us if we wanted the lights dimmed which added even more to it!

Came here for a birthday meal with my family. It was lovely and warm after the chill outside, it was cosy and had a good amount of people in, didn’t feel empty even on a Sunday which was nice. We requested a table away from the door which they took notice of and the one they directed us to was perfect. The food was very tasty, really delicious but the only thing is it wasn’t served probably as hot as it could’ve been, but that’s not not a huge issue :) the French onion soup in particular was delicious!

Visited for the first time yesterday with family. Warmly welcomed at the door without pre booking and seated straight away. Menu had too many delicious options, difficult to pick one so we all went for something different so we could see all our favourites and none disappointed. Staff were all friendly and the restaurant had a lovely relaxed atmosphere. We will be back, hopefully next time with room for dessert.

The warm atmosphere catches attention from the street. Unfortunately, a very basic onion soup - nothing to miss, really. The plate with meat pieces is also disappointing, with only a sad few little pickles on the side. I kindly asked for butter with the bread, but I think the waitress forgot because I didn't receive it. The house wine is very nice. Overall, the experience is not worth coming back for.

The food was okay. Not amazing, not bad. The most problematic part was the service. The waiters took 20min+ to take our orders, and whenever we would try to call them over, they would overlook us or even make eye contact and walk away without informing any other staff member. They were incredibly rude. I waited 40min to make and get a simple drink order when the restaurant wasn't even half full. Honestly, it was a bizarre experience.

Really lovely food and service. Toulouse sausages with the Dijon sauce were great. Also had a venison terrine to start which was enough for 3 people. The caramel on the tart tatin was on the cusp of burnt, I didn't mind it but others might have preferred it a little less dark.

Reasonable vegan food, nice atmosphere, clean toilet. Staff were a bit grumpy about splitting the bill but no biggy

The atmosphere is delightful—warm, eclectic, inviting. The food was reasonable—but nothing special if I’m honest. The onion soup was surprisingly quite bland and a bit uninspired. The Galette Vishyssoise however was very good and flavorful. The wait staff seems relatively friendly but is almost inattentive. The wait was pretty long for food and drinks. We weren’t overly rushed so it was okay, but we decided to go elsewhere for additional drinks and dessert.

Excellent and good value. We'll be back!

Menu was great too many tempting items if you like hearty French food. Wine was good, service was effective with a smile. Felt like we were on a ski break.

I had such a wonderful evening here on Friday night. Everything was excellent - the staff were friendly and attentive, the vibe was buzzy but not too loud, and the food was really phenomenal. After a long week, this was the perfect evening out! Highly recommend!

Great French multi-level restaurant based on buzzy Upper St. We arrived around 9 without a booking and the team accommodated a table of 2 for us. Nice and relaxed place with happy ambience. Food was pleasant and traditional. Nice wines and an authentic experience. Great way to spend a Saturday evening. Will be back

Sublime. One of the best restaurant experiences I've had. I'm not even mad about French food but we stumbled upon this absolute gem by accident. I went full French and had snails for starter then rabbit and crepe suzette to finish and each one was incredible. Plus laid back but attentive service. An absolute treat.

I will be back! Edit: it’s been 3 years and I had to move out of London and haven’t been back. This was one of my last and best memories living in north London. Sometimes I dream about their crepes at night.

Best place to get authentic, quality, classic French food in Islington. All reasonably priced and available as a part of a 2-course or 3-course menu, or à la carte. Love the chicken liver, cooked just right, with generous portions of lardon, served over fresh lettuce and garnished with thinly sliced onions.

First time eating at this lovely French restaurant. Great for a pre concert drink and dinner. The food for four both starters and mains were great. Chicken livers, artichoke, Rabbit casserole and Seafood brochette were all very good and all washed down with good inexpensive wine. Will definitely go back 😁🇫🇷

By far the best in Upper St, Islington. Had 5th visit yesterday, first time on a Sunday after many weekday excellent, good value lunches. We all had traditional Sunday roast in this French restaurant. What can I say otherthan it was as good as their French menu, the best roast dinner I have had for a long time. Well worth a visit.

We were a party of 11. The restaurant wasn't full but unfortunately the staff didn't seem that interested, and they were not particularly polite or helpful. The food is OK. Before leaving we asked if they could get us a cab we were told no. Would I go back - NO. There are plenty of much nicer restaurants with pleasant staff along Upper St. A real shame.

Food is really not good- it was OK but then prices are high for a bland meal all around. We would not go back or recommend. If prices were lower or the food had more flavour - it would improve

For a simple and classic French dinner, this is solid choice. Good for groups or a couple. Many options on the menu, from snails, soup, fish, rabbit, mussels and vegetarian. Service is slow, and would love served a slice of bread with the snails to mop up the garlic butter oil

Went there for a Monday lunch. It is a bit strange that there are two menus to chose from, but the waiters don't really tell you that both are available. Food was nice, not like blowing your mind/out of this world kind of thing but very nice. Staff was attentive although the waiting between starter and main was definitely too long, I think they forgot about us at some point but it was OK, we were not in a rush. Prices were fine and average for the area.

I go to the Le Petite Auberge more than 3 times. Excellent unpretentious rustic French food with hearty portions! I love their mussels, coq au vin and beef bourguignon. They are absolutely delish!

My lovely older brother comes here regularly as the staff know and welcome him we all came for lunch yesterday but I have to write this review as the food was terrible really nasty and very expensive I had the same oily tomato dressing on my starter and main the vegetables were dreadful, the meat tough and not good quality. My prawns were tasteless and overcooked. We filled up on bread and olives. My dogs enjoyed the meat we took home so that was something

Overly salted food, rushed service, chicken was dry. Not a disaster but there is much better in Cockfosters (Deraliye and L’Arte)

Cute and cozy French bistro let down by its inconsistency. The mains were delicious (lamb shank, rabbit, duck all very tender and gazette hitting the spot too). The starters were distinctly under-flavoured and mediocre (bland frog legs in too much cream, bland snails in too much butter and bland onion soup). And the desserts again were inconsistent - excellent crème brûlée and a tarte tartin that has great apples and icecream and terrible base.

I have been to La petite auberge many times and every time I love it even more. I wish the tables were not so crammed together, but the food is phenomenal. One of my top 3 restaurants in LDN.

Had a meal with friends last night. Staff are very friendly and the restaurant is beautiful. Last but not least, the food was really delicious and had great gluten and dairy free options and the waiter was very helpful with this and extremely funny. Last time we had cocktails and they were gorgeous too.

Very tasty freshly cooked food great portions very flavoursome. Pricey but nice as a treat. Attentive server.

Cosy place with a high price/quality ratio and friendly service

Amazing food, always, both for the main meals and for the crepes. Very authentic atmosphere. I like eating here alone please don't stick me down the basement again next time I come in even though a lone diner can look awkward, I prefer to eat alone to savour my food.

Amazing place that I only recently discovered after living in Islington for 26 years! Fantastic food, inflation-friendly prices, excellent wines, and great service. Highly recommended.

No under 10s after 5pm? Are you even serious? Plenty of other better restaurants on Upper Street that don't apply this discriminatory policy. This is not a comment on the quality of the food. I have eaten well with my family at this restaurant a number of times before, but never before been denied entry because I was with my 6 year old son. It is absolutely a comment on the service and atmosphere as being denied entry on the basis of the age of one of your party doesn't make for great service or atmosphere.

At 6pm I was turned away with my 12 years old daughter and 6 years old son. Apparently, they have a policy of no under-10s after 5pm. So children are not allowed dinners these days?! Well, that's something new. As a local, I have been to this restaurant with my children for dinner, lunch and family celebrations on a number of occasions. Too bad as I now have a policy of no La Petite Auberge ever.

Was passing by on my daughter's birthday heading for a different restaurant. This place looked warm and unpretentious. Gave it a stab. UnBleedingBelievable. Relaxed yet interested staff. Food. Service. Quality = imaculate. #gothere #doit #exceptionaloneverylevel

Brilliant French restaurant. I love the cozy atmosphere. Been here a few times now. The food is really good and the variety of dishes is great. Amazing value for money and staff are very friendly.

Food was alright. But I had a motorcycle helmet that wouldn't fit on the tiny tables, so I asked a waitress if she could put it somewhere safe, I even EXPLICITLY said to be careful. When I got it back it was covered in scratches, like she had dragged it across the stone wall. That's £45 out of my pocket on top of the cost of the meal. Manager refused to do anything about it, and said there was nothing he could do, eventually gave me £20 and told me to go away. Pretty disrespectful behaviour honestly.
