What a hidden gem in Soho. Had a superb Sunday lunch. The high quality traceable food from their farm in West Sussex was delicious and at very reasonable prices for central London. Great portion seizes as well ! Then Staff were extremely welcoming and accommodating, and also welcomed having our dog with us. Highly recommended restaurant.

Looking for somewhere to have the traditional lamb on Easter Sunday, we saw a set Easter menu advertised at £45 per head for 3 courses, plus pre-starter mouthfuls (the combination of marmite with wild mushroom in a small eclair really does work!) although the quails egg and beetroot perhaps needs a little more flavouring. I couldn't fault the flavour of the black bream with verbena however, which I particularly enjoyed. The lamb, which was very tender, was 'locally' sourced which is the ethos of owners the Gladwin Brothers who I discovered also have Rabbit on The King's Road Chelsea which has been on my to-do list for some time time. We had a good Bordeaux from the extensive wine list to accompany this. On arrival we were offered the alternative of the Sunday lunch menu if we wanted .... prices for the main courses on a par with what you will find in most of the gastro pubs in the area. A shame the restaurant was so quiet, it lies a fair way up Frith Street away from the throng, but we certainly enjoyed our visit. News is that they may be soon opening a new venture in Chelsea, so watch this space!

I’ll start with the wines… The wine list is long, I checked a few out and most of it scores 3-3.5 on Vivino, so nothing really special. What is special is the mark-up – two wines I drink at home and know well, a white costing £16 was marked up to £65 and £24 bottle marked up to £95! When you add on service charge they are marking up 4 times over retail and probably more nearer 4.5 wholesale – that is obscene! Food…there is so much choice in London you really have to stand out at these prices. Oddly the menu had stuffed crossed out, someone was simply too lazy to print new menus as venison is now well out of season. That’s not a great sign. The food was perfectly ‘nice’ and as a number of reviewers on here have mentioned, the beef wellington was good, but it’s always good in half decent restaurant, nothing was special about it. Staff…server was very friendly, she was eastern European I think, but the rest of the staff looked miserable. I wouldn’t go back, its simply not special for the expense/experience and Soho has so much better to offer…

Lovely restaurant. Very high quality and thoughtfully sourced ingredients, very pleasant and informed serving staff, music pitched just right. I really enjoyed this first visit and so did my guest. I had the goat's cheese as a starter and we both had Pollock as a main course - beautifully cooked - succulent fish with gorgeous crisp roast potatoes. Chocolate mousse to finish. All accompanied by a Gimlet and a bottle of English red. All round very impressive experience. (And apparently they allow well behaved dogs - always good to know)

Indeed my starters, mains and the desserts were delectably prodigious, such as, my fishcakes for starters, they were such flavoursome. The salmon as main has truly astounded me. Moreover, the chocolate dessert with berries on top was rather rich and succulent. Oh and Martyna was fantabulous at her service I must say.

Had the marmite eclairs and venison to start, both very good indeed. For main the cod wellington with potatoes, the wellington was excellent with a truly delicious cream. The potatoes however would have benefitted from cleaner oil, they were slightly stale. Good range of drinks , wines particularly good. They use the Coravin system so it would be nice to see more high end wines by the glass. The concept is great and the service excellent. Price wise not bad, and we’ll be back.

Incredibly delicious Beef Wellington with the sides of crispy potatoes and mixed greens salad. However, the bread and butter for the starter was quite cold, and the butter very hard to spread. Also, the service was a bit slow for the drinks.

Choosing here for New Year’s Eve is such a very TERRIBLE experience. After we came there we find the set menu showed at the restaurant is different from the menu we saw when we book. The staff didn’t say anything about the hidden supplement, so it cost us an EXTRA 100 pounds with horrifying attitude at last which should be 102 per person. I will never go again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here. In town for the week before Christmas, we invited family to join us at Sussex and everyone enjoyed the meal and the surroundings. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the food was tasty and well presented. Catching up with family members meant that lunch lasted 3+ hours but we felt welcome and cared for throughout the meal. We even got my 82 year old auntie to try oysters for the first time!. Recently had a delicious meal with friends at Sussex restaurant, with wonderful staff. However, it's disappointing that the discretionary service charge does not go to the staff if you pay by card , so I would recommend asking for this charge to be removed from the bill and instead leave a cash tip. Disappointing that this is not made clear on the website sample menus, or indeed the percentage.

We are visiting the city for a few days and trying the beef Wellington was definitely in our to do list. I found this place after looking for options which considered quality and price, and yes, it was a worthy experience! The restaurant is really cool and cozy, love the decoration and the atmosphere. We ordered a local draft beer, British bread with butter as appetizer and the main dish with 2 sides from our choice. Rosemary potatoes were so so, and the Brussels salad was really good. The staff was nice. Good option! Recommended. You can do your reservation through Google or the fork.

We went for the prix fixe holiday menu and didn’t regret it. It was a good amount of food. The cod Wellington was a memorable take on the typical dish, filled with flavours. The Brussel sprouts salad was also fantastic. Some dishes lacked the same punch, but were still prepared nicely. A great place for a date or dinner with friends and family.

My husband and I came here as there was a 50% discount from the fork. We were lucky that we dined on a Sunday evening so we got the Sunday roast menu. The menu had quite a large selection of British foods with a modern twist and we felt intrigued by all. For starters, we ordered the mushroom marmite eclair (£3 each), salt cod cornetto (£4each), smoked trout (£14), and scallop (£12). We thought that they were all really good but the cornetto and eclair stood out because they were unconventional. For the main we ordered pheasant and lamb (£26 each) and we thought that the lamb was better. Yorkshire pudding was homemade and crispy. It came with a lot of vegetables so it felt really balanced. The service was a bit minimal and they didn’t quite smile or gave off a welcoming vibe until we ordered a lot of food. Overall, the roast was worth it even if it’s not 50% off, as the portions were quite large. Even though the food was great, it felt a bit expensive for what it was originally priced at, but that’s just also London pricing 🥲.

Made a reservation for dinner on a Saturday evening on OpenTable the day before with plenty of availability all evening. Arrived at the restaurant on time and great impression initially. We were seated, got the menu, and a minute after we were already asked for our drinks order without really having had time to take things in, after just having taken coats off and sitting down. We were then told we’d have the table for 1.5-2 hours which is not unusual by London standards but nothing of such was mentioned in the initial reservation on OpenTable (I think it usually does though). Food orders were also taken really quickly and staff seemed super stressed and on edge. The reviews we had read online had all been really positive hence we were really surprised how unfriendly our waitress was. We were also told that if we ordered the Wellington, as it needs to cook for 45 mins, we would have time pressure when eating… When the main came (obviously didn’t order der Wellington), we hadn’t even finished our bread yet but they tried take it away regardless. The bread wasn’t t free either and I agree with previous reviews that given the price of the mains it should be included. Both of us had the Ravioli as main and the Cornetto for dessert. Whilst the main tasted really nice the portion wasn’t too big. Same applies to the dessert with a portion that was just minuscule. And as soon as we were done with dessert we had the bill on the table. 1.5 hours sharp. They offered to move us to a seat nearer the bar, but that just didn’t change the fact that during the whole experience we felt like everything was rushed and they just tried to seat as many people as possible in one night with bookings being super back-to-back. We mentioned that to the staff but just got a ‘yeah that’s how we do it here’s with quite some attitude. Our table was also next to where the dirty dishes were collected and there was cutlery constantly falling on the floor and plates being shoved into a basket quite noisily. Didn’t add to the experience at all. Overall I’d say that the food was nice but I wouldn’t recommentd going on a Friday/Saturday evening. I wouldn’t visit again.

Alex was a top server, give the man a raise! Nothing but sublime service service all evening (and knows how to make us laugh 😂) In regards to the food, some of the dishes could do with a little more TLC, like the ravioli with more seasoning and the dessert just having a little more freshness and be less on the crispier side of things. Otherwise nice venue - prime time to come is at 5-530pm.

Pretty decent British fine dining restaurant in SoHo area. For the starters, great selection on the menu, the scallops were absolutely divine taste. In terms of main course, wife had the fish and I had the sirloin steak with the cheese and crispy potatoes. Potatoes were cooked beautifully and my steak outcome was different from the normal Steak place you eat in a restaurant. The fish was freshly made though not something special about it. We had the Beef Wellington roast to share on a Sunday. The Wellington was amazing and so were all the trimmings - plenty of food for 2 people, we even took some home and a few people around us were doing the same. It can take sometime for the roast to be ready because it is all made fresh so order a starter but don't go crazy because the roasts are big portions. I had an espresso martini which was also excellent. The staff were really attentive and nice, the atmosphere very cosy. I am so happy to have found such a refined British restaurant. Got timeout voucher which is £25 for 3 courses plus a drink. The taste of the food were good, but the portion size was extremely small. I had purchased timeout voucher or other 3 course set menu from many restaurants, but this one is the smallest. The vegetarian main was basically half of a baby aubergine. This is so bizarre, we left feeling so hungry even ordered some sides a addition. They should have been more explicit or increase the price with increased portion size. The taste of the soup and steak was good, but the dessert tasted a bit funny. The waitrose were grumpy with some attitudes. The atmosphere was good and lively. Will I go back again, NO!

Second time in a month and it just gets better. The lovely Alex N made sure we had a great time. Marmite eclair still great, but this time round I got to try the tempura romanesca (broccoli), the chorizo, the oyster, the croquettes and the cured trout and they were all wonderful. However, the crown goes to the glorious Beef Wellington - perfectly cooked and the roast potatoes crispy and the carrots sweet! Pudding wise - the stick date pudding was not too sweet and my favourite of all their desserts. Will need to find an excuse to come back here again soon!

We really wanted to enjoy our Sunday roast here but unfortunately it wasn't great. The service, setting and atmosphere was faultless however the roast offer needs quick improvement! It all tasted delicious, but to look at we had an overly watery gravy combined with unnecessarily small cubed veg, lamb meat shards that tasted great but looked like kebab and a big dry Yorkshire. Puddings were OK but nothing noteworthy (and the eclairs were quite small!).

Unfortunately, my mother and I had a very poor experience in Sussex Bar & Restaurant that extended from service to food. I'll leave a full explanation to help others, as we both left really rather disappointed and my mum not touching her plate! When we walked in for our 4pm booking, there were no front of house staff, and so we had to wander in the restaurant to eventually be greeted, and asked for our booking details. We were seated (but not by a waiter, it seems, perhaps a manager?), but it took a while to be offered drinks and the service was really quite cold (for example, no welcome, no offer of drinks immediately, etc ). There were no wait staff at all in the restaurant at all at this time. We ordered two starters, which were both fine. However, the sea bass fillet was extremely small and falling apart, due to its embedding in an extremely watery bisque that had splashed all over the sides of the plate it was served in. The bisque was extremely bitter, and -- we felt -- rather inedible. The deer gnocchi was unfortunately no better. The gnocchi was extremely stodgy and waitstaff (who eventually arrived) informed us that it was not made fresh. The dish was unseasoned and contained a rather large and sharp bone. The side dish of truffle potato was also clearly not fresh, with hard stale-ish potato inside a crispy shell that felt very oily. Had relatively high expectations, but we were very disappointed and cannot recommend. I should add that the kitchen did decide to remove the two mains from our bill, which we appreciated. But this did come with some challenges from the manager, despite the kitchen staff agreeing with us, which made us a little uncomfortable.

I had a terrific all round experience at Sussex, food was absolutely fantastic. The menu is made for sharing, with snack & tapas style starter plates, followed up by larger ones. I visited as a solo diner & the menu also worked well for one, as I enjoyed a succession of smaller dishes. The menu is concise & seasonal, with much of the produce supplied by the family farm in West Sussex. Stand out dishes included the chorizo with hung yoghurt & kale, mushroom marmite eclair & truffled potatoes. The wine list is pretty expansive in comparison to the fairly short food menu & is well thought through & keenly priced. Service was really good, thanks to a tight team of well informed & invested people. Highly recommended.

He took our food order and then we never heard from him again- only catching glimpses of him rushing past us drinks in hand. The bread proved the only dish that met expectations. The chorizo was sad and flavourless, and the wait for the mains unbearably long. The other staff were quick to make excuses as to why each issue we raised was not their fault. I took a friend visiting from overseas to The Sussex and it was absolutely the right choice. This is proper British food and I love that they try and source from the UK and seek to minimise wastage (they roast their potatoes 🥔 in beef fat they have from cooking the beef dishes). Service was just wonderful - our waiter Alex was attentive and made great recommendations. The chef (Freddy) actually came and sit with us to talk us through the concept behind the restaurant and the dishes - you will find out from him why the Mushroom Marmite Eclair has no marmite (a great starter). It’s only my first time there and we were only a party of two, but we were treated like VIPs. The chef even invited us to the Chef Table - unfortunately we had to skip as we needed to go home, but it’s brill to know that they make their own raspberry honey / honey garlic on site! FOODWISE- I love every dish! I know some dinners may feel that the starters are on the smaller side, but I feel the prices are fair for a Soho restaurant. The sea bass starter, with a slightly higher price, has two whole pieces of sea bass in it and a generous helping of samphire, cooked to perfection in a saffron sauce. The smaller starters (around £9) are not meant to be main courses so we ordered a few. I adored the mushroom marmite eclair and the mushroom ravioli which we very much enjoyed. For mains, we had the leg of lamb, with all the trimmings. I love their roast carrot! I like my meat tender, so will ask for slightly under medium rare next time. For desserts - try the other eclair (chocolate eclair). The orange and almond cake was lovely, just a teeny bit too sweet for our Asian palette - I still finished the whole thing though! All in all, a great experience - thank you Freddy, Stevie, Jacob and Alex again! I will be back for the bubble and squeak if my schedule permits :) Cecilia

Good dining experience, but not the best beef wellington. We had rock oysters (£4.5 each) which were pretty decent and fresh. The beef wellington (£84 for 2) was just alright, but we expected something more from the taste as it tasted pretty average. We got it with pecorino & truffle potatoes and honey roasted carrots —which was very good, especially the carrots! The duck liver parfait (£8.5) was just alright. Staff service was pretty friendly. The atmosphere of the dining area was low lit, homey and cozy. Overall a pretty alright experience, but we expected more taste-wise. Space where service would actually exist (and not where a distracted waiter would check in every 30min and just walk past you to just stand at the bar and stare at the void) Space where the wine and food recommendations made sense, where you’re not freezing, where atmosphere is jovial and happening, etc. etc. So many missed opportunities.

Stumbled across Sussex as I was looking for a table in Soho on Friday night. Couldn’t have been more impressed. Delicious food, excellent service and loved the ambience. Will definitely be going back!

The food was delicious, but we had some issues with the service, especially as regards dietary restrictions. I don't think I've been glutened BUT after I told the staff two of us were gf, the menu was then marked with what was gf. We ordered two starters. When they turned up she said one was gf and the other wasn't. So the marking on the menu had been wrong. Not ideal but we were four people and two of us could eat gluten. One of us doubted her though, and when she checked again she came back and said "my bad, I mixed up which one was gf and which wasn't" - I could have eaten it trusting her first word on it and then would have been so sick... it was such a lax approach to what is so important, and I can't recommend eating here if you want to do safely and you have an intolerance/allergy. (also, it's expensive enough, you should at least feel safe...)

Came here for a birthday meal, and it did not disappoint! Disclaimer, we used the 50% off offer from the Fork, which is valid on all food, including the Wellington! Our server was lovely, she was well-versed with the menu, and attentive without being intrusive. The blood and sand cocktail I had to start with was lovely, and the red wine (can't remember which) was also nice. The food was amazing. I had the mushroom marmite éclair to start, as well as the chorizo and yoghurt, then the Wellington (for two to share) for my main. The Wellington was divine, though it is expensive at full price. Atmosphere is lovely, though it was nowhere near full on a Friday supper time.

Went for girls lunch on a sunny Saturday. Staff were very friendly, professional, excellent service (as they all had very detailed knowledge about the food and cocktails). After long lunch we went to sit outside, had more cocktails and relax in Soho. Inside very clean and bright with relaxed atmosphere. We never felt rushed. Food was delicious and loved the fork offer. Would I come again ? -yes definitely a chilled place for friends catch up.

I'm not much of a foodie, but just occasionally a restaurant does *that thing*. I remember the first time I went to Ottolenghi's NOPI as treat for my beloved and was arrested by how good it was - 'oh my god!' I thought, 'this food is also *art* and it's making my mouth think delicious things it didn't know where possible until now'. That experience had not been matched until yesterday when I went to Sussex Bar and Restaurant. Flavours and combinations you didn't know existed - and all of them like a bomb of pleasure going off in your mouth. You can pay fancy prices and get nice meals in lots of places in London. Here you get something an order of magnitude better.

Can I start by saying the service here is impeccable. Dhwani was great and super attentive. Location and ambience was also great. To start we got the tempura broccoli and scallop. The scallop was a singular scallop and was nice but portion was small. Tempura broccoli was a favourite. We got the beef Wellington for two with carrots and potatoes as sides. The beef Wellington was splendid, a great cook, great sauce and the sides were extraordinary. Overall a great place to visit in a great place. Portion size could be improved considering the price I feel. Our total bill was £65 with a discount.

We reserved quite far in advance and well well worth it. The food is incredible, more like an experience than just a dinner. The service was impeccable, big shout out to Helen who was really friendly, helpful and attentive. She had really good advice and took very good care of us and all the other tables. Really recommend this restaurant!

The menu is a feast for the eyes & tummy; it’s got a bit of everything, and we wanted to try it all. They boast local produce from own farm AND vineyard! Their Sussex Reserve white is surprisingly good…more Loire Sauv. Blanc than kiwi gooseberry. You’ve got to try the mushroom marmite éclair. Sounds a bit out there, but it’s a must & a super combo wt our bottle of Languedoc GMC. The Sussex chorizo cane wtout casing & fennel/caraway crisp bread. It’s pure piggy goodness! The beef Wellington is house special for a reason! Ordered truffle & pecorino potatoes that are sooo crispy & not greasy, it almost trumped the beef! A good selection on carafe. As for bottles, could do with a more wallet friendly list wt a few more better value options. Shoutout to Alex and Babis for the top-notch service. These guys know their stuff and make sure you’re well taken care of. All in all, not cheap but this isn’t just a meal; it’s more like a food adventure. Great vibes, awesome local produce, and service that’s on point. Highly recommended!

We headed to Sussex and were filled with excitement upon perusing the menu. It took a while to place our orders as we quickly realized they were understaffed. The head waiter was genuinely apologetic about the wait, and so we ordered two entrees and the Beef Wellington for 2, and the lamb. He promptly returned to inform us that the Beef Wellington had run out. We exclaimed, "At 8 pm?! On a Saturday?" Once again, he apologized. We made a new selection. Despite our disappointment, we were determined to make the most of the evening. The waiter came back, having evidently negotiated with the chefs to make things right, and the Beef Wellington was back on the menu. We requested a bottle of Rose wine, which also took an extensive amount of time to reach us. More apologies followed as the wine arrived at a warm temperature. He presented us with half a carafe of another chilled Rose', which was somewhat cold. The bread finally arrived, and we quickly devoured it due to our growing hunger. After an hour and three quarters in the restaurant, the Beef Wellington was finally served. While it was acceptable, at a price of £83, it should have been truly spectacular. The lamb was similarly decent, but it failed to ignite any excitement. Roasted lamb is challenging to mess up. Once more, the waiter apologized for the long wait(s), even mentioning that the service charge would be removed. A gesture that elicited a rather subdued "Whoopee." On the whole, the stress of observing the staff scurrying around in a state of chaos and continuously apologizing to all patrons became exceedingly annoying. To top it off, the bill amounted to £250. Thankfully, we possessed a discount voucher; otherwise, I might have caused a scene. More apologies were extended as we exited. What a regrettable waste of money! If a shortage of staff is the issue, it would be wise to engage additional personnel through an agency. Alternatively, be transparent with customers and acknowledge, "You're in for a tumultuous evening." Maintain professionalism and refrain from attempting to extract more money from customers when the quality of service is quite appalling!

Server Alex was very nice, good job! Besides that however, service was extremely slow. Mains took way too long to come after the starter. Food all tasted very good, got the trout, aubergine and grouse, all well balanced and very flavourful, well done on that. Game chips surprised me the most. However, the portions are abysmally small. Even with the 50% off I got with the fork app, I still think it was NOT worth it. Flavour was good but when I leave still hungry, not even close to full, I cannot justify the price points. 4 slivers of trout was pathetic and serving half an aubergine was a poor reflection on the restaurant, c‘mon for the price you’re charging can you not afford to serve the entire vegetable? The grouse was certainly very tiny but can’t do anything about that I suppose. Despite taking into account we shared between two, a main alone at that price should fill me up at least halfway which it didn’t and if you were to argue that one is intended to consume three courses to be full, I can assure you four slivers of trout, half an aubergine/ a tiny grouse and a dessert would not be near sufficient for most.

We went to Sussex bar for some fine dining. It was a bit pricy and i want to give the food a place between 3 and 4. We got 50% of the food on the fork. That makes me end up on a 4. If i had to pay charge, i would have found the food way to pricy. Everything was good, don't get me wrong, but nothing really had that je ne sais quoi. For instance the hummus, in my opinion, had way to little acid. Some lemon, or for instance some coriander would have lifted it. And salt! Everything was to little salted for my taste. Or, for example the lamb. If the chef had done the fat proper crispy, and added some pepper, and maybe some herbs, it would have lifted the food immensely. Or lastly, the truffles. We had to dishes with truffles. Let's agree: truffles are tasty. But on both dishes it was just too dominant. The subtle taste of truffle, that often makes food with it so good, just drowned in an all immersive truffle taste. Service was perfect, and so was the atmosphere. I am not strict now, because we got 50%. Again, had we paid full price, i would have been more strict. All in all a very nice experience, but again, the food lacked the je ne sais quoi.
