Sushi and Shakes in East Hertfordshire

Usually good food - last Katsu Curry was sent Charred to oblivion - nothing was done about it. (Ordered via just eat)

One of the worse sushies I've had. Salmon feels semi-cooked and quite tasteless.

This place is filthy. Staff working in their own clothes, smoking next to the kitchen. Food is horrible and very expensive.

Review for new branch in Old Harlow. Ordered takeaway today from our brand new local restaurant for the 1st time… gyoza, mixed sushi platter & a ramen soup - all were absolutely delicious… great customer service too. Such a nice & welcoming team… restaurant looks absolutely fab too. I will be returning. Thank you all.

Order was over an hour late. Wrong drink sent. Was all melted. Put it in the bin.

Waited some 2 hours for my delivery and had to call several times during that time. Presentation was far from desirable and the taste was even worse.

I placed an order through just eat, for a sundae and two milkshakes it took best part of an hour and 20 mins for them to arrive .. I rang and asked we’re my food order would be and I was told we are busy .. spoken to the manager who wasn’t apologetic in the slightest .. bad customer service.. and all in that long for a milkshake and a sundae isn’t good enough.. commented my regards on Facebook to end up finding myself blocked from there page .. blocking me isn’t going to stop me from broadcasting your pathetic behaviour and appalling business .. think twice about visiting this business

Ordered an hour ago still yet to arrive and phone 3 times 2nd time they hanged up useless customer service

Takeaway related review based on our second bad experience. Today it took nearly 2.5 hours to receive our food that the website said would be 30-50 mins. I made several calls to them to see where our order was - after 1.5 hours to be told it was 20 minutes away but it took over 50 so all the hot food was cold. Sadly the order also wasn’t correct and when I called to ask for my money back was told the owner wasn’t there.

The worst sushi I’ve ever had. Rice so overcooked that there were no longer individual grains in it, just a plastic like blob. Order missing items as well. To top it off the wasabi tastes of nothing. How does wasabi taste or nothing? Perhaps they just scrape the green mould off their frozen rice and serve that. Disgusssssting. See the photo attached for the plastic rice

Disappointment. Specifically added a note request for utensils, because we were staying at the hotel - arrived missing everything. No chopsticks for sushi, soy sauce or wasabi. No spoons and forks. NOTHING!! Plus tuna was dark and salmon looked squishy. Miso soup had so much pepper in it - impossible to eat. Also it tasted weird generally, not only the pepper. I hope I’m not getting food poisoning after trying a little bit of that stuff - most if it went strait to the garbage. £30 for nothing, absolute disappointment. This place should be off UberEats.

Omg !! I went back here ,Never again been here a few times and I really don't know why and how they are still open. I went back spent over £40 on a few milkshakes and a so called waffle which was very stale tasting ,grey, very dry and very burnt with bit chocolate on it and few slices of banana it was truly discusting is all I can say, taste like they had it months, I would like to say to the restaurant If you can't be bothered to dish your food with a bit of respect and a bit of care behind it,, then I don't know how you are staying in business,, the milkshakes are awful plane icecream not nice taste old aswell very bland sound nice taste discusting i could honestly make a better waffle and milkshake at home at least it would have flavour and be fresh,,they ,offered another waffle but it would only go in the bin i honestly can say ,they havent got a clue about quality of food its cheap and nasty I really wouldn't like to taste what eles they have. Never again will I be ordering you don't deserve a restaurant Sooner go macdonalds.

Food delivery was on time. Really fresh good sized portions. Very tasty. Would definitely order again. Good veggie options. Reasonably priced.

We had a takeaway from here on a Monday night. It took 2.5 hours to deliver. We had to telephone eight times and every time was told somewhere between 5 or 10 minutes. When it arrived there was no apology and the sushi was not edible. The whole takeaway went in the bin. We have been refused a refund! STAY AWAY THIS PLACE IS REALLY BAD!!!

Lovely friendly service and presentation of the food. The waffle machine had broken so we received free mochi while we waited. And when it arrived it was worth it! Good sushi just feels more like a fast food joint than a restaurant. Service is as still great

Ordered food at 8pm to be delivered at 8:35pm…called restaurant twice who promised food was “5mins away” twice. Spoke to the driver at 9pm who said he was “5mins away”. It’s now past 10pm, the restaurant is closed I still have no food and the Manager was about as useful as a chocolate fireguard. I won’t be ordering from here again

Do not order from Sushi and Shakes if you care about your life! They served me OUT OF DATE salmon! It was stinking so bad I got sick! I had stomachache all night and felt so bad I had to vomit the next day! When I called the Restaurant they told me they would refund me the order and after 1 week and half I am still waiting for it! They are just a joke! I am not gonna order from them NEVER AGAIN.

DO NOT ORDER FROM HERE. If I could give this 0 stars I would. Now, it’s rare I give a bad review, but the service was unbelievably appealing. My food was over an hour late and I had to call 3 times and each time, they’d say it would be here in 5 minutes. They would say nothing but sorry and tried to dismiss me when I asked for a refund. I’m surprised the food ever arrived! I was told the driver left the place at 7:12 and it arrived at 8:25. Yet, the food was hot? How can food be hot for that long after an hour? Liars. Do not order here if you’re hungry and want food to arrive when you expect it too. I’ve asked for a refund and I’m 100% sure they’re not going to give it to me after saying yes. So, avoid at all costs. And who wants hot sushi anyway?

I specially like the waffle , try it with toffee sauce , it's definitely value for money. I like the peri peri wings absolutely perfect combination of hot and sweet!!, I am planning to try burrito next time !!

This place has gone downhill, badly. I used to order from Sushi & Shakes quite regularly, the food was always really tasty, well presented and delivered quickly (I always order straight from their website). One of the last times I ordered from them, sometime last year, I was left waiting 2-3 hours for my food in the middle of the day as there had apparently been a power outage (conveniently I had to call them multiple times to get this information). The food was still nice when it finally came, so I decided I would give them the benefit of the doubt. I have ordered today and been left waiting over an hour for my food (ordered at half 12 in the afternoon on a Tuesday) , called multiple times no one answering. My food arrived and it looks as though it’s been through a car crash. Avocado maki had all unrolled in the box, and dragon roll looked like a saucy mess, The miso soup smelled and tasted bad and contained no tofu. I decided not to even attempt to eat the miso as it genuinely tasted as though it had gone bad/out of date. I won’t be giving my custom to this business again which is a shame as I was previously a regular but I have watched the level of service deteriorate. The service was poor and now the food is bad too. I would advise not wasting your time and giving your custom and money to other businesses who provide a high quality service across the board!

Always poor service but good tasting food. We ordered at 18:50 and finally got our food at 20:20! And that was after 3 phone calls to chase. Spoke to the manager, who only offered a reduction on my next order, after I pushed for it. And this is the second time this has happened. We want to support local businesses, but really difficult, when the service is so appalling. If you must have Sushi and happy to wait a ridiculously long time for your food… this is the place for you. Otherwise, don’t bother… we won’t be giving them a third opportunity.

Been coming here for ages, and I always had great sushi. Today I collect a £80 order, and when I get home, I find the tuna is not its usual fresh red colour and is actually an off Brown. It also smells funny. I called the restaurant, and I'm told it's supposed to be like that and no refund, no credit. It stinks and is clearly off. This place will never get a penny of my money again. To think I used to recommend this place to friends, never again.

Never received my £20 order. The deliveryman couldn't find my address (I wonder why) and was really rude over the phone for 10 minutes and never came. First and last time.

Food is delicious, customer service is very helpful! It is affordable and has a great selection. And it delivers out to me when I'm fairly rural. I'm always happy with their food deliveries.

The only downside when you eat in so still they gonna serve you in plastic boxes and plates. Shameful as the local itself is quite nice inside. Good quality food just too salty. Gonna try again to check whether will be like this again.

I DO NOT recommended this sushi restaurant as I went there to pick up my food and when I opened it it smelled really bad like it was off and tasted horrible, we called the restaurant and they was very rude telling me they don’t have a bad review and that there food was perfect he was very biased and unprofessional he also said he will not refund the money or do anything for us so he says “our food is perfect” we asked to bring the food back he said no. I went into his website and all i saw was bad reviews

Great sushi and fairly quick service aswell great little place and you have to try it!

It takes them way to long to deliver food. It's always the same story. Always late. No apologies. I think at time of ordering they still have to catch the fish.

Beautiful food and friendly staff, always a lovely treat. Delivery time can be longer than estimated but food is consistently great, it all arrives at the right temperature, and crispy things are never soggy etc.

Very good sushi but is a bit to expensive

Food is really good, no doubt about that! But if you're hungry now, don't order. The food is what made me order for the second time. The first time, our order took over 90 minutes to get to us with one call to them, even though Uber Eats said 25 minutes. It was a Saturday so we understood it was probably busy. I ordered again this evening (Wednesday night) and it was after 2 calls and 2 hours late, not so much as an apology either times. Such a shame as now looking at the reviews, the general consensus is that the food is brilliant. But the waiting times and staff unapologetic attitude is what let's the place down. Perhaps use the Uber Eats/Deliveroo drivers and you'll get the food to your customers in time, alleviating the issue. I'm sure that costs more money but the cash you're losing due to bad reviews and non-returning customers must be higher!

The sushi is overpriced with small portion, with the same price we could get a bigger sushi box from nearby Waitrose or Sainsbury’s. The place is a bit shabby, not very nice if eat in. Since they don’t have sample photos in the menu, we only know after we ordered the sushi box that they put Mayo or salad dressing on the sushi rolls/maki, which is a shame as one of my family members is allergic to it, if we have known about it, we would not order it in the first place, and not all Japanese restaurants put Mayo on the sushi, we were so disappointed.

Absolutely fed up with this place. Ordered a few times and every single time the order is incredibly late, staff are rude and unapologetic and the order is wrong. Tonight was no different yet again, food missing and no apology or compensation from the staff. Absolutely appalling.

Said delivery within 1 hour - 1hr 30mins later they are making it.

Have used a lot of times, but on my last order the sashimi, which used to be generous, was 1/2 the normal size. Won’t use again if that is now their standard portion.

Absolutely appalling service this evening. We ordered food at 6.30 and were told it would arrive in 30 minutes. 7pm no food so we called, "it's on its way" , 7.15 we called as still no food, "it's on its way". Well, we called 5 times and the food finally arrived at 3 minutes to 8.and guess what, the order wasn't complete. we rang again and the manager hung up on us. The driver would not give us a discount and said he was scared he wouldn't get paid if we took money off our payment. we called again and the manager was very rude and totally unapologetic saying they had problems with having enough drivers, if you'd told us that at the very beginning we would have understood. Absolutely disgusted at how we were spoken to tonight., we were not rude at any point. Never ordering from here again.

Had meal as Sushi and Shakes and I was pleasantly surprised how the quality of the food was. Great box selection and the staff were very helpful and welcoming. I highly recommend this place.

Food took 1 hour and 48 mins to arrive, wouldn’t have ordered had I had known the hassle/wait time. They were also out of mochi, and I had to call 3 times to chase up my order.

We ordered from Sushi and Shakes for the first time and we are left feeling slightly disappointed with the food. I ordered the avocado & cucumber maki which were nice, with salted edemmame and a chicken ramen which was good. My boyfriend ordered the salmon and tuna box which he rated 4/10 due to the lack of freshness and the fish was ‘mushy’, and the Katsu curry was ‘alright’. If the freshness was improved we would definitely order again. Thank you!

Have ordered from sushi & shakes several times and it has been consistently good. The sushi is fresh and the menu is quite extensive. Have been able to try different pieces each time. Will be ordering again soon.

Absolutely shocking experience with this company. Made the order through Ubereats but they use their own drivers from the restaurant, stated the food would be 20 minutes. Waited for 40 minutes and called the restaurant where the girl on the phone said that the food was out for delivery and would be about 10-20 minutes, fine I can wait it’s Friday night so they’re clearly busy. Around 40 minutes later I called again as the food still isn’t here, speak to the same girl who said they need to make the order again and it would be 30 minutes, annoyed and hungry we agree. 35-40 minutes goes by and it’s still not here! Called the company a third and final time where I could hear them panicking and saying “it’s that girl again who hasn’t got her order”, there’s a struggle and a manager comes on who tries to explain that Uber listed the order time as 20:00 not 18:20, now this whole thing could have been avoided if they had just told me that and not lied that my order was out for delivery. I stated I wasn’t paying and I just want the refund, the manager says he can accommodate and the food is worth the wait and would be 5 minutes away, 10-15 minutes later it is finally delivered! Open up the order and the bag is soaked and the food drops out all over the table! Poorly packaged, cold and now all over my dining room table, I message the Facebook page where they said “we will send more food out in 20 minutes” and I begged them not to and to just send a refund. 4 weeks has now gone by and my messages were ignored and they’re totally blaming Uber when they clearly were lying the whole time. They have also blocked my partner when he sent proof that they said they would arrange a refund. Just go to Waitrose and buy a sushi platter it’s way easier and tastes better.

Absolutely dismal service, I can see from other reviews they promise refunds to customers but ignore them. We’ve been promised a refund now they’re trying to give us 50% back after saying we will get a full refund. They have now blocked me on Facebook messenger. If I was abusive I would understand but they clearly don’t give a toss about their customers. Absolute joke of a company.

I've been chasing for two weeks to get a refund on a double-payment taken when their site crashed while ordering. Have spoken to the shop twice. Main email address doesn't work. Emailed the manager directly last week - still no help.

Ordered tonight, though was marginally skeptical based on a few reviews. But have to admit it was really nice. Ordered two meat and rice dishes and a sushi selection. Really tasty, will certainly go back.

Note: this review is for the take away from Just eat only, I never been for eat in. I’ve been wondering about ordering take away from Sushi & Shakes for ages, but I was unsure that the food would be fresh and the heft price tag also put me off. I am glad that I finally took the plunge yesterday. The food was fresh, crispy and delicious. Favourites included: tempura prawns, katsu prawn temaki and a deep fried special roll (forgot the name). I was expecting delivery to be late, it seems a common complaint from other reviewers. We ordered on Sunday at 8pm (we eat at weird hours!) and given an 1 hour slot, however, our order was early by 20 minutes. I can tell that the food was prepared fresh, so it is easily to see why there may be delays during busy times. Price wise, it is obviously more expensive than a fish and chips or pizza take away, but definitely worth for the quality. I will order again for sure, I am hooked.

it seems that the quality varies a lot. Some times very thinner slices, others you get sauce on top of some makis? Also they are very inflexible in the content of a platter. And today we got 3 portions of ginger and wasabi for 80 pieces? I’m disappointed to say the least. Order with caution...

I'm not really into this sort of food. But my mate strongly reccomended I try it. My meal was Flippin lovely. So good I'm going back again tonight for something different. Converted.

I don't tend to leave these but it has to be said, This place was horrendous. We ordered the food at 1751, and was given a delivery time of 1830. Roll on half 7 and we finally get the food after a call to the store. "Its snowing and we are short of drivers" is what I was told, which is fair enough, but I did say does that mean my delivery is going to be 6, 7 ,8 in the queue. Food came opened it up, and it was stone cold. And we was missing two items from the order. Another call to the store to be told it must have gone in the wrong order. They apologised and said it would come straight back out. Still no items, another call went in at 2020, to be told, oh they will be done now and sent out when the driver comes back but they apologised and stated we would get a refund. Roll on 2115, another call to be told driver has just left and has a few deliveries before. I'm sorry but if you cannot provide the service, then don't, we have waited over 3 hours still no food.

Although this is the only sushi restaurant in Stortford I don't recommend it, it's just not worth the hassle. Better to go to Tesco or Sainsbury's and take it from there. It is not the first time the delivery arrives super late. This last time was ridiculous. Ordered it at 19:36, Just Eat said I would get my food at 20:05. Was 20:37 when I called the restaurant, been told it was out for delivery. At 21:10 food wasn't delivered. Called again to know that the driver couldn't find my address. No one was bothered to call and inform me. Finally, the food got delivered at 21:20. The manager said a full refund would be given, even because he saw my child was waiting. The refund wasn't given. My question is, do I feel like spending my money on people that do not care about the customer, do not call to say 'I'm sorry, I am unable to find your address. Could you guide me through?'. No! If I can't trust the Restaurant Managers word, can I trust the food I am eating? I don't think so! Terrible experience.

Order was late on both occasions. Would recommend the larger sushi rolls and katsu curry but the mixed boxes are overpriced. Mixed feelings, needs improvements, has capability to so.

Don’t use them! Rude employees, ordered food more than 1 hour ago, lied to me “10 more minutes”, took another 45 minutes and then simply “ask a refund on JustEat”... Lovely customer service! Never again, thanks!

Amazing food and great service. they went above and beyond to deliver an amazing Sushi dinner. Everything was perfect and as soon as we can we will be travelling to eat there regularly.

I give 1 star because the customer service was exceptionnaly bad. We decided to eat in. No one served us until we walked up to somebody. We had to request cups (we only got plastic cups) for our drink and had to ask for a plate!!!! for our food so that we dont eat out from a take away box.... The food itself is good and I recommend it for take away. But I never in my life experienced such a terrible customer service. If the restaurant main profile is take away thats fine but they really shouldnt advertise themselves as an "eat in restaurant"

Really disappointed by their customers service. Their website doesn't work correctly. I placed my order twice, gave my credit card details and all simply disappeared. I still don't know if they charged me or not. I will know in few days if I see it on my bank statement. I called the restaurant, they wasn't really willing to help or check anything. I wanted to order by phone and I heard I cant have the same price like on their website which didn't work so I have to pay 20% more! They have second restaurant Burrito Grill, where I wanted to place second order as well and I had the same problems. And also there I would have to pay 20% more than on their website. In total they wanted me to pay almost £15! Ridiculous. They just lost customer who was ordering from both their restaurants regularly

We ordered the waffles and were extremely disappointed. The waffle was a pancake mix with barely any toppings,and looked anaemic..shakes and sundaes were shocking too.will definitely not be returning...

Excellent sushi, a welcome addition to food in Stortford. Probably better as a takeaway as the food was served in boxes, but the food itself was excellent.

Gone are the days where we have had to plan a trip into London to find sushi. Not only do we have a sushi place in our town now, we have a world class one at that. This is by far the best sushi I have had. Quality salmon and ingredients. The ratio of the filling and rice is perfect. Some sushi places are 90% rice, not Sushi and Shakes. My wife had the vegan options and she is was pleasantly surprised. It was packaged beautifully, delivered on time and arrived with all the condewments we need and in abundance. Keep supporting this restaurant! They deserve the support.

Great tasting sushi! Ordered dragon and rainbow rolls, both very good! Lovely to have a sushi restaurant in Bishops Stortford, finally.

Amazing place! Barely anyone there! Ordered a dragon roll and it came out hot, nicely presented in a takeaway box, provided with chopsticks and soy sauce and tissue. Staffs was really welcoming and nice, also ordered a yummy miso soup which was tasty and still hot when served which made my sore throat feel a lot better. And a refillable soft drink. Toilets are available there and plugs for you to charge your phones.
