Costa Coffee in East Hertfordshire

A great Costa with the reliable service you'd expect. There's plenty of indoor seating, making it a comfortable spot to relax. While the café area was spotless, the toilets could have been cleaner, which was a slight letdown.

We moved to Ware in 2018 and this Costa store was to a good standard overall for quite a while, with low turnover staff wise. Then at some point, I think from late 2021, it seemed to turn into a Costa where staff turnover was high, almost like a training store, and the quality dropped off. It has improved a bit this year but frankly the quality of the coffee is inconsistent, and there have been a few instances where customer service/standards were lower than satisfactory e.g. there was one hygiene issue that I complained about in-store. This morning I had looked onto Google Maps to check the opening time, it said 8am, but we thought maybe that was wrong, and it was as it opened at 07:30am - I just told the lady working there it was wrong on Google Maps, I did so in a friendly manner - she literally shrugged her shoulders, and then said she’d tell her manager. I think we’ll head elsewhere more often from now on. Just moving to a 1⭐️ as TBH it now smells a bit ‘damp’ in the shop. It’s a shame as it used to be a decent Costa.

I visited this location today.The tables and the toilet were dirty. After I asked for a cloth and wiped the table, one of the employees, a man, looked at me strangely.The man persistently followed me, which I did not like and I would not return.😌

Absolutely shocking. Not prepared/able to refund £1.45 due to not their fault!! (Charged £3.95 instead of the £2.50 for a breakfast roll with medium hot drink before 11am). Then tried to say it was before 10.00 when the shelf display said 11.00, it's their shop/signage!! Absolutely clueless and don't trust the staff there. Either trying it on it just don't care. Wouldn't bother to complain about such a small amount apart from the attitude.

Cakes and coffee were fine but the experience was marred by staff hoovering around us 25 mins before closing. The hoover stank. Cleaning should be done after closing or they should close areas. Not good.

Average coffee shop . Coffee is reasonable. Staff always cheerful and know my order .

Sadly, they don't understand English. Toilets not working, therefore, shouldn't even be open. Shabby and unkept.

Avoid like the plague, staff have no idea what the hell they are doing, the "manager" doesn't care about the customer and they can't even toast a panettone correctly. Don't waste your money or your time.

Very unwelcoming service today, plus confusion over payment as server said I had not paid when I had paid by card. Place was full though, which must say something. Coffee was decent. Only one toilet in action and its towel bin was overflowing.

Why does the guy in there not seem to get any help making drinks, which causes big queue. There are other staff in there. The guy is very polite and always thanks you for your patience, but they should help him.

I ordered an almond croissant at 10.30 on a Monday morning. It was certainly not fresh, it was like dough, I could have rolled it into solid a ball. No flakiness at all. Complained and left as staff said they were fine and could do nothing about it. We walked out £12 worse off.

I visited the Costa Coffee on High Street in Ware (SG12 9BP) today, August 20th, 2023, at 14:25 hours, and I must say I was quite disappointed. The cappuccino I ordered wasn’t up to the mark at all—it tasted more like water than coffee. The quality was seriously lacking, which was a letdown. Moreover, the staff seemed quite inexperienced to me. From my perspective, they appeared to be students rather than seasoned baristas. It’s unfortunate that the overall experience fell short of expectations. Additionally, the staff seemed to have trouble distinguishing between whole milk options, which I was inquiring about. They appeared a bit lost. I hope they can improve their coffee quality, staff training, and overall service in the future.

Very rude costa coffee staff and not happy with how I was treated and was said i could not have coffee in a frappe and then said i could and had to ask for the sprinkle on one of the frappe and had to ask for chocolate sprinkle on the hot drink as well I will not be using this costa coffee again

Very disappointed as I picked my son up from school to take for a nice drink to be told they couldn't take a 50 pound note. A legit 50 pound note and that here policy is we do not take 50 pound notes. I mean its money not even a check of the note just a straight up no. This was all I had on me.

It's my local Costa. So I'd love to give it glowing reviews and normally I would. But I had a bad experience recently. Hopefully that isn't a sign of it slipping. Maybe I'll change my review in the future.

No WiFi and Key code on the toilet, other then that it's all good. I'll knock a star off for now and will edit back to 5 star once the free WiFi is up and running.

Very often we visit here, lovely staff. Always clean, nice to children (chat to them etc) nothing is too much trouble and very attentive

The recent refurbishment has been at the expense if customer experience in my opinion.

I visit this Costa on average 5 times a week. Staff are always helpful and friendly. Even take my order from outside if I have my dog with me.

Someone needs to train in people skills 🙄 😒

After buying a couple of coffees I needed to use the bathroom, as the toilet is locked I asked a member of staff for the code she said look on your receipt, however I disregarded my receipt, she pulled a face and was reluctant to let my have the code,infact she never actually gave me the code. The staff need to be a little for friendly and to cheer up when dealing with people.

I have bee perfectly happy with the service provided at Costa Coffee Ware. Very satisfied and it's been a great place to sit and work.

Super friendly, very efficient and accommodating. Highly recommend, can get busy between 12 and 1pm for work lunch but normally not a long wait.

I’ve been twice and the customer service was poor on both occasions. Staff were not friendly or accommodating when I asked about the NHS discount with the Blue Light Card. 2 stars for getting my order correct.

No till, cash only, they needed a bigger calculator, they managed ok. Coffee was delicious as normal.

This month i been twice at Costa in Ware, both times i asked for decaff iced latte but i know for sure that they did not give me decaff. Staff are very unfriendly and they dont have any manners!

The welcome was friendly enough and the hot chocolate was delicious, but it would have been better if it had been a tad hotter. I asked about the Wifi and was helped out in a most polite and friendly manner.

Overpriced staff not very attentive

Nice coffee but very messy, had to clear a table from numerous dirty ones as did other customers who were served after me, tables still hadn't been cleared or cleaned when we left, napkins all over floor.

Very spacious and is air conditioned which a life saver on hot day - 1 star couple of times has been luke warm instead hot 🔥 but they do make u another is ask but is OK most of the time

It's ok. Nothing special as it's a big chain store in a small town. It's very dark inside and the service is very slow to clear away left behind clutter from tables. There is not enough staff for busy day, but they're friendly enough. There is no ramp to get in but, It's spacious with accessible toilet facilities for wheelchairs and prams. There is not much variety of food.... coffee is plenty! But it is expensive for what you get. They also sell tea, Frappés, smoothies and shakes.

A typical Costa selling the usual Costa offerings. Nice size this one considering its location in an old town. Has a few tables out the front, a few in the windows and lots going back in to the shop. Staff were helpful and friendly and place was very clean. There are a couple of steps up from the pavement but they do have a ramp should you need it, just ask and they will assist.

Staff pleasant. My mocha was nice but partners cappuccino tasted like they'd burnt the milk.

I do not like to leave negative reviews on places however I feel I need to say something on this particular Costa branch. I live in ware and I am a regular visitor, I enjoy the coffee here and must state that first. If ever there has been a mistake or mixup majority of the time it's fixed with no issues. This review is based on one staff member who ruins every single visit. I often will catch up with friends over a coffee, once every couple of weeks and everytime I go in I am greeted with this lady, (or lack of shall we say) The grumpy older lady who looks miserable 90% of the time who does not engage in polite conversation nor attempts to smile or greet you in a way that is genuine. On most occasions my friends and I are left to feel rushed, in the way and as if we have done something wrong to her. This same lady often mops around customers and opens the front door (even in winter) to encourage customers to leave. Last week my friend and I were told to "drink up as we were closing" we still had 15 mins!! We were close to finishing our coffees anyway however it was shouted to us from across the counter!!! Not all staff but a couple are VERY rude and are in need of customer service training!! If you do not like your job then leave. Stop being rude to customers!

I use this Costa intermittently (once per month?) as I am not usually in the area. When I have used this branch I have always experienced the same 'abrupt/grouchy' woman, who is so unapproachable, she brings the place down. So very sad, but I just don't know why this woman is front of house. Please have a shake up of your staff, and maybe a bit of training on CS. Also, change the soya milk to not be one derived from coconut, it ruins the coffee.

The welcome was warm and friendly and the Americano was of the usual standard we have come to expect.

I completely agree with Rob B review of this branch of Costa. Slow service,surly, unfriendly staff I have never had a good experience here in 4 years of living in Ware.Shame usually love Costa.

I live locally to Costa in Ware, and have used a lot over the years despite regular rudeness from staff. Today - last straw. Asked for large coffees and the barista made medium. When I pointed this out, was told my order was complicated (like it was my fault!) - no apology. Well - that’s it... I’m voting with my wallet. Bye-bye Costa Ware - I really won’t miss you!

we went into costa after visiting pets at home in Hertford and I saw one staff member give me evil looks to say you shouldn’t be allowed to have a dog come in costa but the sign said dogs can sit at certain tables but other than that I had a very nice cinnamon brioche bun

I don't come to Ware often but when I do I usually go into Costa Coffee. In my past two visits into this Costa the service has been aggressive, rushed and unfriendly. For a job which appears so simple, it is very disappointing that the service was so lousy. The 5 members of staff also began to chat and laugh loudly when there were no customers - very unprofessional and dreadful customer service; the manager needs to sort this out. I will not be visiting again.

I came in to work and although I understand a coffee shop will never be the quietest place (I actually quite like the comforting clink and hum of a bustling coffee shop) I did not anticipate the constant sound of one particular member of staff shouting and laughing with her colleagues. I appreciate smiling faces are great this was incredibly irritating, disruptive and actually appeared quite unprofessional. The other staff were jovial back but at a much more appropriate level - by far the most loudest person in the coffee shop. Such a shame as I had some great service from her colleagues.
