Absolutely brilliant experience! For a place that is not very well sign posted it’s amazing for small children. You can go on trampolines then on the bouncy castles and big inflatable slide in the barn for 3 pounds each and the go carts and mini wheel ride for 2 pound. Plus there’s a lovely little park in the middle of it all. The canteen sells amazing ice creams! The only downside was we couldn’t grab a burger because that wasn’t open. I would recommend this place to anyone. The chap who mans the pay point is amazing at his job.., very friendly very polite and helpful plus the owner is very good at manning the inflatable slide making sure big kids don’t jump on so the little ones get hurt. My friend and her son also enjoyed it. Just sad it won’t be open over winter. Keep up the brilliant work!

Saw a tiktok of sunnybank gardens so thought me & my friends would try it out. Lovely and polite man served us in the purple shed where you pay for all rides. Very reasonable prices may i add. Kids went on the bouncy castles first which could do with a good clean as they looked a little dirty. adults sat and had a coffee while the children played. Coffee and hot chocolate were awful. I dont mind paying more for things but when its cheap awful tasting coffee id rather save my money. Some of the other rides/activities looked a little run down but for the price you cant complain. The only thing we were disappointed at was the food. The only option is an overpriced burger van with tasteless food & a very rude woman that serves you. She Was arguing on the phone when we first went up to her (very professional) burgers tasted of nothing. Sauces were running out which we told her about & she said she didnt have time to get more but had time to argue on the phone 🤷🏼♀️ the woman had the attitude that she would rather be anywhere else than at work. Next we went for ice cream, ice cream was really nice, wide variety of different flavours and looked very clean. the girl who served us was lovely, polite and really chatty and did tell us that it was closing down for a renovation. I would return but in the hopes that the food stall and drinks stall is changed when the renovation is done. It lets the place down.

Visited for the first time on Bank Holiday Monday the 27th May. The place wasn’t too busy and had lots of inflatables and activities for the kids to do. You pay per activity but have a large time frame. For example we had an hour slot for the inflatables, I think it was £3 per child. It appears a family run business and staff are very friendly. We of course went into the Cow Shed and had an ice cream 🍦. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side and most of the activities apart from the inflatables are uncover.

We visited for the first time this Sunday. Every member of staff we encountered were absolutely lovely. Special mention to the two gentlemen who were brilliant with my son who is autistic. They were patient, caring, friendly and very inclusive especially when he wanted to constantly ride on the mini wheel. We found everything from food to rides and ice creams very reasonably priced. The ice-cream was delicious and your only problem would be which one to choose. We will definitely be returning it was a lovely few hours out.

Absolutely wonderful, as a regular it’s a must go summer location if in the area! The homemade ice-cream is to die for, and with so many flavours to try it’s such a revisiteable location!! With the recent addition of crumble to the menu it’s a delicious and perfect summer day out! Personally I’d recommend the Baked Alaska crumble or the Jammy dodger ice cream, both are absolutely beautiful! Couldn’t think of a more perfect location in all of Yorkshire for a nice sunny day out with family, friends or even a date! 5 Stars, a go to Ice cream parlour!

Our grand daughter loves it here - we have to get her there for opening so she can watch the slides etc inflate and get a blue wristband ! After a couple of hours on the slides, bouncing castles, playground, mini wheels, we then all tuck in to the fabulous ice cream where we are so spoilt for choice refuel, she then generally goes back to the playground before tackling the trampolines Everything here is very competitively priced and should be within most budgets. The hot take away food, sandwiches, coffee, soft drinks will not burn a hole in your pocket - the wine is just £6 for a large glass full and the beers are very good value And parking is free ! It does get very busy in the school, summer holidays which is testament as to why it is such a great day out.

I’ve been visiting Sunnybank for nearly 10 years! I first found the place when my little girl was a baby and during my subsequent 2 x pregnancies I made it my mission to try every ice cream flavour on the menu (which I achieved)! It’s changed so much over the years , for the better and is an absolute haven for little ones aswell as adults!!!!!! My little boy had is party there last October and the staff went out of their way to make it such a lovely morning! I’ve not been well for 18 months and visited last week for an ice cream and for my 3 children to play and have fun! I was absolutely overwhelmed by the generosity Rebecca (the owner and face of Sunnybank) showed me and want to say a massive thank you!!! You’ll never know how much your kind gesture touched me and I’m so grateful!!!! This family run business is a gem! I’m case anyone is wondering …..pistachio is my absolute favourite!!!!!!

We visited today and had a lovely lunch at Sunny bank. We opted for an egg sandwich and jacket potato which were lovely. We then shared a few different flavours of ice cream which were tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. It’s useful that there’s an allergens list on a large board and they also have a few different flavours of vegan ice cream which is nice to see. My toddler spent some time on the play area and we also paid £3 for an hours play on the bouncy castles and inflatable slide.

First & last time visiting here. The overflow car park has many dangerous obstacles when walking to the venue, I.e. half planks on the ground. The food is awful - especially the overpriced tasteless salad. The chicken that I had with it was terrible. I didn’t like the taste at all. It went in the bin. I was also over charged by £3.50, due to it all being added up in the ladies head! The rides are for the older children. Not much for a 2 year old to do! My 2 year old also ended up with oil marks on his clothing from the park area! Not very happy at all. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. It is overpriced for what it is. Try to cater to the younger end too. By the way some idiots had their dog in the play area. Surely this is not allowed. I should not have to risk my child being bitten by someone else’s dog because the owners think it’s good fun to let the dog play on the park!

Visited Sunnybank today and was bitterly disappointed. When this place first opened it was a brilliant place to go for food and a decent coffee. Today the menu now appears to be based around burgers, hotdogs and chips - we opted not to eat and decided to have just ice cream and a coffee instead. Two minuscule scoops in a really small tub for £4 - sorry but this is well over priced in my opinion. My Americano was luke warm when I got it to my table so wasn’t impressed by that either. The outside areas appear to be focused on fairground type rides designed no doubt to tempt people with children to entertain. As a group we all agreed it has changed and not for the better. We’d gone on our lunch break from work so didn’t have time to wait and complain verbally. We’ll definitely not be visiting again any time soon.

Our first trip to sunnybank was lovely, I went with my mum and 3 year old and we had a lovely sandwich and chicken wrap in the cafe and my son had a little sandwich and snack bag full of fruit and a bag of crisps. It felt a little over priced but the food and service was lovely so it wasn't an issue. Having had such a lovely time we decided to go again for lunch. We arrived at 12pm to be told there was no food being served and that only the burger van was available. I am a personal trainer and the thought of eating something dripping in grease turned my stomach and I also didn't want to feed my son something so unhealthy. We left hungry and upset as my little boy was looking forward to a fun afternoon there. Its safe to say we won't plan to come again for lunch as we were very disappointed!

First visit since pre lockdown. Obviously on a hot day in May half term it’s expected to be busy, but it was too busy. At a small venue like this a booking system with time limits would be much safer. The soft play was well organised, set pre booked time slots and not too busy. The rest however was chaotic, the bungee trampolines had no time limit so children basically queued in hot sun as long as needed there was no room to distance either. My son waited 45 minutes, surely a limit - 5 or 10 min would keep things moving. There was also no cleaning of equipment between use. The ice cream queue was ridiculous roughly an hour wait and again not enough room for distancing. A couple of smaller stalls outside would have reduced the queue considerably. Also expensive - £3 for play, bungees, 2.50 for golf plus £2 for go carts. Spent about £30 in 2 hours with very little to show for it. Inspite of the issues it is a lovely place which would just benefit from some tweaks.

This weekend gone was to have been our third visit here. Previously we had enjoyed great flavoured ice cream. Unfortunately, this time we did not make it to the front of the line ( A very popular place no doubt about it ) The hygiene awareness just was not there and we had to leave without buying anything.First, and this is controversial were a couple of builder type blokes and their families all not wearing masks. And I say "builder types" to imply that they looked fit, healthy and in no need of avoiding the mask general rule..... Subjective and, the fact they were not asked to wear masks or provide seasonings would not have deterred us. Then, a small girl offered her drinks carton to a staff member who took it off her, placed it in the bin and then wiped her gloved hand on her top before continuing to serve.I ma not sure whether one member of staff was meant to be doing the money exchange part and the other two were serving ices but, what appeared to be the person most likely to be in charge of the three went to fetch more ice cream tubs and the other two then were taking money, giving change and then serving ices without changing gloves. I thought at first they may be wrapping serviette around the cones which, when we got closer, I could see they were but by way of picking the cones up by hand first and only then wrapping the bottom of the cone with the serviettes. Thus, even if the bottom had been picked up from the start, there was still plenty of contact from gloved hands to cone to transfer infection.I go to town on this descriptor such that the establishment owner might pick up correctly on what is not going correctly in order that measures can be made.It is easy for some folks to think that wearing gloves is good enough but this is not so.

All wearing protective face shields and adhering to social distancing rules. The place looked so magical and my daughter had a little chat with Santa and his elf and she also got a present. She also had a chance to play with Santa under the snow making machine, which was so much fun and we took some good pictures. Don't forget to try their festive ice-creams! Mince pie ice cream was a hit!:)We got to the car to realise that it would not start.(this has never happened to me before so to say that i was embarrassed was an understatement! We love to come here for ice creams as they have a great range of flavours and it is a nice setting. For this alone I’d give 5 stars but unfortunately we were disappointed after today’s visit. Initially it seems good, there is an outdoor queue for the ice creams & a member of staff was there to direct people to the available staff member. The problem was that, despite being very busy, we were the only customers in masks (inside). I realise that it is hard for businesses to police this but I heard another customer in the ice cream queue ask if they needed to wear a mask & a staff member said no. As far as I am aware, the government rules are that you can only remove face coverings when having table service? People queuing for ice creams to then eat outside are not in that category and should wear face coverings inside. With such a lot of people in close proximity we did not feel it was safe. It’s a real shame as I would recommend a visit in normal circumstances. The staff are friendly & we really do love the ice cream.

We are really fortunate to have this place really close by so can walk to it easily for a nice summer walk. Today we decided to nip in for lunch which for us as a family can be rather difficult with my wife having coeliacs disease and not everywhere catering to a gluten free diet (or not educated on the issue). To our surprise they were able to offer gluten free paninis (in generous portions). They also seemed knowledgeable when it came to customers with coeliac disease, knowing about issues with cross contamination etc with their ice creams and again alternatives were available from the freezer to overcome this. There are lots of flavours of ice cream to choose (definitely recommend lemon meringue and Jamie dodger) We had a nice couple of hours here allowing our children to play on the play areas provided with them also going on some of the paid for activities. The fellas running the paid for ride areas were so friendly with the children, encouraging and helping them on the bungee trampolines. Their manner with the children was really good to see and made our stay more enjoyable. All facilities were also very clean and everything well distanced to ensure that all customers were able to keep their distance. We look forward to returning again as always.

We visited as a family of 4 for the first time. Upon arrival we could see it was overly busy. It was hard to stay 1 meter apart as there was too many people let in, there was a lady trying her best by herself to organise queues in line with social distancing but it was virtually impossible for her. There was lots of tables and people were still stood around so definitely over crowded. Unfortunately the playground area (childrens Park) was absolutely jam packed with children & unsupervised so we didn't go on that either as we felt it was unsafe at this time. The toilets are not being cleaned/checked regularly I'm presuming as there was no toilet paper or cleaning rota to see. This place will be great under normal circumstances but during this time with covid measures needed, we won't return. It needs more rules/regulations in place to protect customers and staff. Shame

On first entering, the Cowshed is modern warm and welcoming. A large space, thoughtfully decorated. My second impression after finding our seats was that it was a noisy space. Trolleys and clanking dishes reverberate in the space. We found our food lacking in flavour. The peas on my dish seemed to have been sitting around for some time and the fishcake was bland. My husband found his chips rather tasteless, though they looked good. The ice cream bar appeared very popular. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I would try another meal there just to be sure they weren’t just having an off day.

We always go as a family Great atmosphere , lovely comfortable country side feel , we love their breakfast menu & lovely massive salad and club sandwich but nothing matches the beef stew with dumplings Plenty of ice cream flavour , we recommend the carrot-cake flavour There is soft play and outside seating area for a sunny day Can’t comment on the play area as our children are in their teens

This place is fab! You can go for coffee and cake, a snack or full meal. The staff are lovely. Fantastic ice creams which have to be tasted to be believed! Fun for the children In The barn which has 3 different bouncy castles and a sand pit. (£2.50 per child entrance)I’d highly recommend a visit.

We love this place. Been a few times and it never disappoints. This visit was just for a kid’s play on the bouncy castle outside, a few ice creams and three cups of gorgeous hot chocolate made by a young lad who heaped the chocolate in to make the best drinks on an nippy winter day you could hope for.

Been here every other week for 6 months. The interior is lovely but the staff are slow and last time i was in there they were rude and really just didn't care how upset they had made me. Quite surprising considering how many times I've been there. Won't return again though if they are going to treat customers like that. Plenty more places around the area.

Booked into Sunnybank for a family gathering - 23 of us! Pre-ordered our food & although we all arrived at different times due to getting stuck in traffic/poorly children/feeding babies etc, nothing was too much trouble, the food was fresh and absolutely delicious.

Visited here as have read lots of good reports about the food....well they were definitely not wrong. The food is simply amazing, homecooked and very tasty. We all had a Sunday Lunch and everyone throughly enjoyed their meals. We also managed desserts (but only just). Excellent value at £12.95 a head.

Visited here for the first time to celebrate with friends for a colleague's Baby Shower with Afternoon Tea. The food was absolutely first class, plenty of food, the sandwiches were made with beautiful fresh bread, home made quiche, scones, fruit loaf, cake and even ice cream! Absolutely 5 stars for the food. My only criticism was that we were given our tea and coffee at least half an hour before our food arrived, and it held two tiny cups of tea. If we had waited for our food to arrive before we drank our tea it would have been cold. My biggest criticism is that if we wanted more tea or coffee with our food we had to pay extra for it!! I have never known this in all the places I have visited and eaten Afternoon Tea! It wasn't a case of being unable to afford it (£1.90 for tea and £2.30 for coffee) it was the principle that it wasn't included with Afternoon 'Tea'!! For this reason I wouldn't recommend it if you enjoy drinking tea or coffee with your Afternoon Tea, sadly this really let us down.

Called in for lunch today ended up staying all afternoon. Food great quality and all extremely reasonable. Can’t remember last place we got decent kids meals at that price! Staff all chatty and pleasant today on our visit. Kids played happily in the play area and we payed for all 6 of them to go in the bounce barn. Staff were around and it wasn’t as manic due to the entry fee - I prefer to pay a little for the piece of mind that kids are watched by parents. It was a pleasant experience (not like other play areas).

Well having visited here many times before and left several 5 star reviews I left feeling a little disappointed for the First time ever at Sunnybank. The owner is lovely and again made an effort with the kids when we were leaving. Had a full English which was very good and the kids all had their favourite ice creams which again was good the food is excellent. The kids were in the play barn and we were told our time was up which I could understand had it been busy you get 30 minutes we to be fair had been exactly 30 minutes but no one else was in what harm would it have done to let them play a little longer. We spent over £25 in there in less than an hour and my little One left upset not understanding what he had done wrong having been asked to get off the bouncy castles Not the normal friendly customer service we have become to expect when we visit here at least Once a month not sure if we will now return.

Haven't been here for about 18 months, wow what a change. Kids entertainment looks pretty good, outside seating area and flowers are great, as for the main attraction...... The selection of ice cream is fantastic and the ice cream tastes as good as it looks. The Inside seating area, with bar and food looked great, we must go back again for more than an ice cream. Highly recommended if you are within 50 miles!!!

Today, 4 of my female relatives visited me and we went to Sunnybank for lunch. What a wonderful, relaxing afternoon we spent there. The food was lovely, very reasonably priced and at the end of the meal there were 5 empty plates - not a scrap in sight. The meals were Ploughmans Platter (2) - Whitby Scampi, chips & peas (2) - Steak & Ale pie, chips & peas (1). The staff were all very pleasant and friendly. The restaurant and cloakroom areas are spotlessly clean and the owners, Rebecca & Edward, have put a lot of time, and money into building a good business for both young and old. When my relatives left me they said they would be visiting again very soon and wanted to go to Sunnybank next time. Angela Lister 01.07.19.

We stopped on impulse as we saw a sign as we passed, our son had just had a great scan and we wanted to treat him to an ice cream. Lots of room to park and every area was lovely, clean and bright. We had a look around the beautiful selection of ornaments and planters and I chose a lovely one to buy. We took our boys into the restaurant and purchased some ice creams - our son has cerebral palsy and autism and is obsessed by ice creams so is a connoisseur- the ice creams were very well priced and tasted outstanding. The Cowshed restaurant is stunningly decorated and every member of staff were amazing m, friendly and helpful.

We were passing so thought we would call in after hearing good reviews about this place. Wow what a mistake we made i ordered 2 lattes that we couldn’t drink they tasted burnt and the man making them clearly had no training he was just throwing them together as quick as he could with no care my cup was only half full (not that I could of drank the other half). We sat down and both had pulled pork baguette and agin it was in edible the bread was stodgy the pork tasted like it had been reheated several times and then tossed in some of the worse bbq sauce i have tasted. The salad on the side was dry with no dressing. There was loud music so could hardly here ourself talk. As we left thought we would have a look around the garden pots but as we have a 10 week old baby it was full of people smoking outside so could get out of there fast enough

On walking in the place is beautiful so was disappointed to find the food did match up to the decor. The steak & ale pie just had a piece of puff pastry placed on top of the filling and not even connected together as a proper pie plus the gravy jug was cracked. The jacket potato with cheese was very dry and could easily tell it had been reheated in the microwave and the cheese was tasteless. I didn’t expect such poor quality food, especially with the lovely decor and the high prices charged

Myself and my children went for a meal there yesterday and found the food tasteless and disappointing. I ordered two jacket potatoes and macaroni cheese. i spent almost £30 on food!! with one item being off the cheaper kids menu. that tasted like cardboard. My youngest didn't even touch her macaroni cheese not that i could blame her it was like tar. Children's lunch menu is seriously lacking in anything nutritious everything on there is like cheap pub food. I actually went for a nice afternoon tea with my girls but found that wasn't served until 2pm. The better places i have visited offer afternoon tea of sorts all day round or at least from lunch time but after seeing how much it was not sure id have bothered.

We love to visit Sunnybank just for the ice creams, there is so much choice and are always delicious. We tend to go on hot days & so it is always busy, as you would expect. Despite that, the staff are always friendly and the queue goes down quickly. My personal favourite is the Cadbury's Creme Egg ice cream! There are a few inflatables now which look good fun but our girls haven't been on them yet this year...we'll definitely be back though!

we had sunday lunch for a family of 10 here, now we cannot fault the staff, they were young but friendly and in my opinion overworked.the meal was poor, everything screamed catering for the masses. If the owner replies im not sure what the trolleys are doing to the ambience of your restaurant it seems to be harking back to the seventies,my only thoughts are that your tables are so close together that your servers would not be able to serve food without tipping it onto somebody.Did you ever think about having a carvery?anyway the food was I think more on the lines of a trip to a certain freezer shop, which is such a shame so much better could have been achieved

One things for sure when the sun is out this is a busy place !! having read the previous review I suspect that its success had stretched it in some way.... I visited 3 times over the BH weekend for ice creams and each time the service was prompt and the produce lovely.... the manager is a very hard working and honest person and so I am surprised about an earlier review about the money (maybe something can be sorted out on this?)...overall, I would recommend calling in and spending £3 on 2 scoops of ice cream of all flavours oh and don't forget the Sorbet's... try the Baileys ice-cream !! its top notch.... I sat outside watching staff grafting in the Spring heat trying their best to keep up with being busy and overall they did a fab job !! Keep up the good work...

We had been here once before under a previous management, when we thought the food was A. a bit pricey and B. a bit pretentious. Yesterday's experience was very different. The outside area when we walked up from the car park needed a bit of a clean, especial as the compound for litter is in full view and was full to the top of cartons and other rubbish. It wasn't a good first impression but we forgot all about it when greeted by a lovely member of staff, (Maisie?) who was very welcoming. Our table was in one of the small dining areas off the main bar area. We had a little wander around after we had eaten and the whole downstairs is very nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. Every member of staff we met was friendly, helpful and able to deal with our requests. We ordered two starters and mentioned that the third member of our party might be allowed to share. As a result, the waitress brought a third plate. The starters - fish cakes and ham terrine - were very nice indeed, although, in retrospect, I should have just had a main course, as the portions were quite generous. All three of us had the Barnsley Chops for a main and they did not disappoint. However, they were served in a shallow bowl and I would have preferred a proper dinner plate. It made cutting the meat from the bone quite difficult. We also had a side order of cauliflower cheese and it was enough for all three of us to share. Everything was very nicely cooked and presented. Dessert was the hazelnut cheesecake, which was pleasant, if a little bland. Very good coffee the end the meal. All in all, a very nice experience and I would recommend 1903 for a special lunch out.
