Sunlight Chinese and Thai Takeaway Donington in South Holland

I phoned my order through at 6:20pm to be told there was an hour and a half wait. I said yes, that’s fine. I was then told the food would be ready at 7:45. We arrived on time to collect our order, expecting a small wait as there usually is on a Saturday night but I didn’t expect to be waiting for a whole hour! There were lots of disgruntled people waiting for their food and being told to wait however many more minutes, then I spoke to a man who had been told to collect his food at 8:15, half an hour after I was told ours would be ready and he was given his order before us! How is that fair? Although our food was good, we will not be returning. I would rather drive a few miles further to collect our food on time than stand there waiting for a whole hour! It could have been cooked in an hour, without the added hour and a half on top! Disgusted.

I could not fault our takeaway on Saturday night. The food was well cooked and was hot and there was plenty of it, in fact, we are going to have our leftovers for our tea tonight. Very happy people. Saturdays get very busy and are not always on time when you collect but I would rather wait and have freshly cooked hot food.

This is my local Chinese and it’s my favourite out of other Chinese takeaways near me. Food is consistent and tasty. The chow mein and salt & pepper chicken are the best I’ve ever tasted! Orders are usually ready to collect on time but on Friday and Saturday evenings collection times are long (45-60 mins) and often not ready on time when collecting as they get very busy. Best Chinese around.

Been a couple of years since we last went here. We are not huge takeaway fans but this was well worth the wait. Fast service after phoning order through. Reasonable price for the size of portions which were huge! Definitely worth a try.

Came for a takeaway tonight with my boyfriend - ordered from here before and never had any problems. We had an oriental starter box, I had sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style with rice and my boyfriend had special fried rice with curry sauce. Good value for money, food was tasty and portion sizes are large (someone’s taking leftovers for work tomorrow!) Will definitely order from Sunlight again.

Ordered on a Sunday evening. An hours waiting time. We got there just after an hour and had to wait another ten minutes. I ordered a special fried rice and curry sauce. My girlfriend ordered an oriental finger box, rice and Hong Kong style sweet and sour. Mine was quite salty. The prawn toast I tried from the box wasn’t very fresh and the box looked all very samey. A distinctly average Chinese I’m afraid. I’ve had better but I’ve had worse. Useful when open on a Sunday evening when most others are closed.

We ordered a takeaway on Saturday night., only 3 dishes! My wife was told time to pick up, and got there at the time, but not ready! Another half an hour later still waiting.eventually an hour after told time got the order! No apology from young girl serving.this keeps happening at this Chinese so we have stopped going, they need to look at the timing and servers. As it is very poor!!,,, so no more! The food here is always amazing, piping hot and makes it home to Surfleet perfectly! We won't go anywhere else so strictly no Chinese on a Tuesday.

I went to pick up my takeaway last night that I ordered by telephone at 6.30pm. I was told it would be an hour and to pick it up at 7.30. I arrived at 7.30 and it wasn't ready. In my 40 minutes sat waiting in there I experienced some of the worst customer service I have ever seen. One woman got fed up with waiting and asked for her money back, which she had to argue to get as the two young, rude lads serving refused to give her. When they eventually did give her her money back the curly haired lad said "don't come back". The poor woman was so shocked, as were all the other customers waiting. Some 30 minutes into waiting past my given time I queried where my food was and didn't get an answer. Hey, 1 hour and 25 minutes AFTER ordering my food, I young couple came in, ordered, and were gone with their food within 20 minutes. After 1 hour and 40 minutes I too demanded my money back only to be met with more rudeness by two young, ignorant boys who frankly shouldn't be working anywhere! I used to buy a fair amount of takeaways here, but I will NEVER go again. It was a shambles and the owners should be ashamed!

We've been using Sunlight for 5 years and no complaints. They are very busy though so best to order well in advance.

Lovely chineese great food never had a problem from here. Would definitely recommend. Not badly priced either.

Visited tonight for a take away and have to say it’s one of the best Chinese’s that I’ve had. Cooked perfectly and extremely tasty. Great choice on the menu. Quick and friendly service. Would highly recommend

The trouble with Sunlight is every time you get a take away the quality of the food is different. This can often be said of the sweet and sour Cantonese style. Safe bet is the chicken curry. Sweet and sour chicken balls and the chips.

This is my regular Chinese! 9 times out of 10 it’s amazing! Has been the odd time where the order is wrong, but nothing major that can’t be sorted easily! I’m a bit fussy and don’t like veg! Overall the only Chinese round here I eat from!

Very busy, clean looking place, efficient staff. Tasty food, meat particularly well cooked and tender. Downside, Chinese and Thai curries need more spice they are very bland

9/10 times food is brilliant! Sometimes could do with someone who can understand the English language when taking orders, as had to wait for them to find someone else last time. However can't fault any food I've had, great place and my regular.

Was told that this was the best local Chinese and not disappointed. Normally tend to sit down in a Chinese but needed a quick fix having spent the day moving

Best Chinese and Thai food I've had in years., very tasty, large portions ,very hot, beautiful chips, Lots of people waiting for takeaways , our order was on time exactly.

1st time of use been in village here a year tried the other in village not great ones used to keep travelling and use zhuguang in Boston but last too times poor service and even worse food .Only had sweet sour chicken balls pork balls chips rice just turned up 10 mininute wait food fresh & hot definitely go back again

Ojalá este fue nuestro local chino porque estábamos visitando la zona por una noche. Fue un placer venir aquí, mientras esperamos nuestra comida, había mesas y sillas con libros y revistas para leer. El joven que nos servía era extremadamente amable y hablador. Como el título ya mencionados, la comida era buena y abundante.

Conducir a 20 millas de ida y vuelta prácticamente habla por sí mismo. Excelente relación calidad-precio y la calidad de la comida y nunca he experimentado una comida insulsa hasta la fecha, habiendo usado estos chicos durante 6 años. Otro punto a tener en cuenta, solo aceptan efectivo, sin embargo, es un punto de efectivo en poca distancia cerca.

Never ever disappointed, it's a treat for us to get one from here as it's a little way out for us and they do not deliver. But definitely worth every penny

Had a takeaway from here again on 6/1215, still not great, pretty flavourless apart from MSG. Very watery sauces which just poured away the next morning, the duck with ginger was mostly flabby skin, beef in black bean I hardly recognised and the most tasteless chow mein I ever had.

Das Restaurant ist hell und typisch eingerichtet und strahlt eine sehr angenehme Atmosphäre aus. Die thailändische Bedienung ist freundlich, prompt und zu Späßen aufgelegt. Wir sind deshalb öfters zu Gast.

Its not a bad takeaway, the foods pretty good but I've had better. As with all the local Chinese takeaways there is no delivery service, something I can't quite fathom.

Food was average, both myself and partner had a dicky tummy all weekend , sweet and sour sauce served with the chicken balls was rather pink n gluppy, not enough beansprouts in the beef chow mein, cold prawn crackers

Great food again and again. They can get a little mixed up with order numbers when they are busy but otherwise faultless.

Had meal for two,that tasted like it been reheated from earlier in the day!soggy batter on sweet & sour, chop sues very bland! Ribsagain tasteless!. Chicken & mushroom again very bland and tasteless processed chicken!. Generally all round very a disappointing meal for £17!!!!! Poor value for money and will not be returning again.

We bought a meal for four costing £38.80 and I'm afraid to say it was very poor value. The food was bland and tasteless. A good example was the Crispy Thai Style Spring Rolls. In reality they were soggy and distinctly un-Thai-like!We feel ripped off and won't be back despite being regular visitors in the past. Standards have slipped badly in our opinion. A great shame.

We always go here for takeout, never had a bad meal, and nice choice of Chinese, Thai and Indonesian. The tom yum soup is amazing (best pick me-up/cold remedy available). Finger box is a good filling starter/sides for 2. Would highly recommend and continue to use regularly ourselves.

we started going here last year as the other chinese in donnington is no longer up to scratch.But my my what lovely fresh tasty chinese you get from here.The portions are really good as well.They will also cater to any requests on food.

This is our local Chinese and it's always perfect! The staff are friendly and it's that good that my parents have changed from their local to here after having a takeaway with us! We've never had a problem and will continue to use this Chinese for many more meals!
