Really disappointing. Have been going to this restaurant since I was a kid but it’s just not as good as it used to be 10 years ago. Me and my family keep giving the restaurant a chance in case it’s improved but always disappointed. The chicken tikka masala is really oily and strong in tomato flavour. This will probably be my last time getting a take away from Sunar gow.

Have eaten here on a few occasions and the food and service has always been first rate, so I recommended the restaurant to my friend for her birthday as she wanted a truly authentic Indian meal. I have to say my food was lovely as always however, my friend was not too impressed and when this was voiced the staff got quite mardy over this and then the service dropped immensely, to the point that at 9.40pm they got the hoover out and started to clean around us stating we close at 10pm. Considering we booked our table for 9pm and they are advertised as open until midnight I thought this was very poor. Yes we were the remaining people in the restaurant and they probably wanted to finish a little earlier as it was quiet but this was unacceptable. Ruined what was a great night and really took the shine off my friends birthday. Shame on you !!!!

We were in the area and found this place online and thought we would try it. We managed to find some parking on the side of the road just down from here as there is no car park (street surrounding can be very busy with parked cars so parking could be an issue) The entrance is at the side of the building and up some stairs. The place was quite busy with a few tables filled and people collecting takeaways. We were shown to a table straight away. We ordered drinks which we had a pint of kingfisher and cobra which both were nice. We ordered food which didn't take overly long to come however some of the food had to be taken back as the food was really really salty which they replaced the whole meal. The food which then came out was really good and would have it again. The chicken tikka masala was good, the coconut rice and keema cheese naan was also good. Overall the staff were friendly, the place seemed clean, the food was good. If you are in the area this place is worth trying.

Food was good to be fair. Service was friendly. However absolutely zero compliance with any COVID safety common sense, rules or laws. No masks worn by any staff. Even offering handshakes on the way out. Groups of 10-20 being served. Brought Astley will have it’s own high rates of infection from this place alone. Shocking and totally disrespectful to us all.

Food was nice staff were friendly. Atmosphere not the best it felt very dated and with modern Indian restaurants they are gender neutral so you have a mix of male and female staff members which I think helps the atmosphere dining experience. If they can move with the times they good have a great little gold mine on there hands.

We live in Blaby & have always used a local Indian Resturant but tried The Sunar Gow for a change. Well we won’t be going anywhere else now that’s for sure. We have now been twice & they are the most consistent Indian I have ever eaten at, and trust me I’ve eaten at many. Brilliant food, top service & staff second to none. Very attentive & in good measures. 10/10

We visited The Sunar Gow today after a trip to Leicester from Dover. We can honestly say we have never had food that tasted so good and with such friendly staff. After a chat with the restaurant owner - A family run business of 30 years and it truly shows. A fantastic evening we would certainly come back next time we are up this way.

We have been delighted by the Sunar Gow on both of our recent visits. The food is absolutely delicious. Punchy Indian flavours, great friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere. On our last visit I was keen to try something different but didn't know what to choose. I told the waiter what I liked and the chef created something unique based on my taste. The dish was brilliant! We highly recommend this restaurant for a great Indian experience.

I have been using Sunar Gow now for about 6 months after it was to me recommended by my uncle, the food has always been exceptional even when they are extremely busy in the restaurant. I tend to go for the Lamb Handi dish or Surar Gow special Birayani with a Vindaloo sauce which are both extremely tasty dishes, I prefer lamb in a curry and I have never found a curry restaurant where the lamb is as tender on such a consistent basis as Sunar Gow! Well worth a visit!

These guys are the best, literally saved me from having a hangry breakdown! After the worst possible customer service from RAJAH (not Sunar Gow) where after being 1hr10 minutes over the delivery time (having ordered at 16:50 for delivery 18:30) when food did arrive and we said we are not paying full price they refused a discount and took the food away from us. We quickly placed a telephone order for collection at 19:55 with Sunar Gow (having eaten in the restaurant before and been impressed but they don't deliver). By this point we were all out of minds with hunger. They said it will be ready in 30 minutes, drove there 10 minutes later, got given a drink and a poppadum whilst we waited. Food ready by 20:20 neatly packed in a box, hot and delicious. Got it back home and by 20:30 we were eating a SCRUMPTIOUS curry- my GOODNESS it was delicious. Thank you so so much Sunar Gow, you are actually my heroes!

My husband and I have been going here for a couple of years. The food is always wonderful with excellent service. My husband loves the house special house style, not overly spicy but really tasty, I prefer to mix and match, love a starter of chicken shashlik, boiled rice, side of chick peas bhuna and a small portion of madras sauce, simply delicious. The meat is outstanding, so tender. And fabulous service, the house red is very acceptable, sometimes a bit to cool but just ask and they will warm it up for you.

Awful food. Shoddy service. Ridiculous wait. Worst meal in many years. It could be argued that this would be fair had the bill been cheap, but it simply wasn't. The food was artificially coloured to within an inch of it's life, the meat was tough, the sauces were poorly flavoured, the naan would have been better from the coop across the road and it took forever to arrive. The location? Upstairs in a sweaty little first floor badly decorated 'room'. Utterly awful. Avoid at all costs.

sadly my second trip here couldn't have been more different to my first, it was perhaps the worst meal I have ever paid for and the shocking service was contemptuous. I took my wife as I had raved about the meal I had enjoyed in May, so was looking forward to more of the same. we didn't look at the menus and ordered a lamb tawa and my wife chose the chicken tawa. both came and they were the exact same dish, taste and colour, with different cuts of animal thrown in. they were swimming in grease they had clearly added before grilling to make them sizzle on the way out and there was nothing to them, a simple tomato based curry sauce without flavour or spice with the lamb so chewy it wasn't edible. I called the manager over, I asked him why the lamb was so chewy when last time it was melt in your mouth tender, he said last time you had the regular lamb and this time I've given you the lamb tikka. I asked why, as if he knew I enjoyed the dish so much last time that he had made this decision on my behalf, but this seemed to confuse and anger him and he walked away without explanation. when of course it was clear the restaurant has gone downhill fast and they are cutting corners so badly its showing with quality of ingredients the main thing to go with this lamb, if that's what it was, the only cut they now serve. we ate a little and the nans, finished out drinks and asked for the bill so we could go for a drink and grab something to eat at home. obviously there was no tip and again I got a degree of attitude when I told him the meal with poor and vastly different to the last time I ate here, I was half expecting a bill reduction or at least an apology but nothing was forthcoming. he took my card and popped it in the machine and said its declined, the card has no issue and the balance on the account is healthy so there is no reason for it to decline I told him. I asked him to try it again and he did so three times before saying have you got another card it keeps declining. I had but I wanted to used the card I had given him as that was my spending money card rather than credit or saving accounts. he said come to the till i'll try another machine, we waited for around 7 minutes and he tried it about another 5 times before saying i'd have to try and get some cash out and directed me to the cash machine and insisted my wife stay put. I was now getting angry, we had had a poor meal, poor service and now he wanted to send me out in the rain whilst he kidnap my wife, what a fool this guy was. I said if you have a problem with your card machine then I would like an invoice and i'll forward you a cheque tomorrow a.m for monies owed, this was not an option I was told. he then unplugged the electrics and the phone line under the counter and waited a couple of minutes before plugging back in.... low and behold whatever the issue was, it cleared itself and the first time he retried my card it went through just fine. he handed me the card and my receipt and without a word he walked away!!!!!!.. no apology for doubting me when I told him my card was not the issue, no apology for wasting our time whilst we had a taxi waiting outside, no apology for offering such shoddy customer service and a downright awful meal. NEVER again and I would urge my worst enemy to steer clear of this place now. its so shabby and dirty in there too, it looks likes its falling down and has never been cleaned in years they keep the lighting very low so you don't really see whats really going on, I didn't notice so much last time as the food was ok. this time however we had time to take it all in whilst he struggled with his pdq machine. I wonder how dirty the kitchens are if they have food on the walls and seriously stained threadbare carpets. this was very disappointing night, especially as we don't get many nights off together, this experience has put me off eating indian cuisine generally as I just cannot find a restaurant in south leics thats consistent in offering a quality meal with good customer service, it really shouldn't be this hard!

I have been to this restuarant twice now and on the first occasion I was rather wary of the local 'clients' that one had to dine alongside. Screaming brats and their chavtastic parents, not my cup of tea at the best of times. However more importantly on both visits my meal was spot on. At the moment I like my curry to have a bit more of a pulse than you average ruby, so I've been choosing the pokier models. The vindaloo was really tasty, with tender meat of good quality and my garlic naan mopped up the sauce beautifully. I was impressed with how accomodating these guys were on our inpromtu visit late on a Sunday evening during Ramadan, when I imagine it is rather grating to serve plates of food to other people when they themselves have limited times to eat. Yes its another Indian restuarant in an area with many contenders, but this is definitly one I would recommend. The food is very good, with a welcoming service. Although be a cautious of when you visit as dining with some of the less savoury locals is not pleasant, but nonetheless no fault of the proprioters. Definitly worth a visit for a decent curry.

I would consider myself quite a curry connoisseur and if you can get past the venue, it's all a little bit shabby, you may find a decent curry. We went for a birthday, 4 adults and 3 kids, we went for the set 3 course meal for £8,95. Starter, main and side, we all had different dishes and although the portions were on the small side, to be expected though for the price, all was very good and tasty. With 2 rounds of drinks including beers the bill was £90, not bad.Note, ask the barman for a card trick. Conclusion - Tasty food good value venue shabby!

VERY impressed from the moment we stepped out of the taxi and smell of spices and garlic wafted from the upper windows of the kitchens to greet us. Arriving at around 9pm midweek I was concerned it would be quiet and perhaps closing early so popped upstairs to ask, pleasantly surprised it was half full and that they are open until midnight throughout the week allowing us time to sample a couple of real ales at the pub next door. I noticed they had a set menu offer displayed outside - although it turns out there is nothing set about it, you can order any starter, any main, any nan or any rice and pay a little over the 8.95 should you want any specials which is more than fair. We didn't even look at menus and sat and spoke to the manager - milan - and told him the kind of dishes we liked and the spice level and quiet frankly about the poor quality food received in local curry houses in the area recently, cosby and blaby in particular. I said that I do love a good lamb curry but am always wary that its going to be chewy cheap cuts of meat and I wont enjoy it, he assured me they do not serve neck or other cheaper cuts and the lamb dishes are always tender and melt in your mouth. I was apprehensive as haven't had a lamb dish that good in years but decided to trust him and I am so glad that I did. after two excellent prawn starters the mains came out, the sizes were bigger than your usual silver oval dishes elsewhere and with the nans, rice and a couple more cobras the table was full. my dish was a lamb tawa and it was exactly as stated, so tender and full of flavour and spice without being overpowering or bland, it was perfect and by far the best lamb curry I have had for some time. my friend had a chicken dish made to order and was also suitably impressed with the quality and size of portions, neither of us being able to clear ours plates. Milan couldn't do enough for you attentive but never in your face, but saying this all the staff seemed friendly and a attentive throughout. as a side note the music playing was just right, older style classics from films such as o mere sangam in the background at the right volume, we had to endure miley cyrus when in a resturant in narborough recently and in the end I asked them to change it as found it inappropriate! when we were finished we were presented with the choice of a nightcap, so we had a brandy each which was a nice touch. our bills came and for pops and dips, two starters, two mains created to our requirements, two rice and two nans alongside two bottles of cobra it came in at 24.85!! as we were presented with the nightcap and we had had a great meal we rounded it up to 30.00 and felt we had tremendous value at 15.00 per head. I eat out a lot but only bother sitting and reviewing places that are either really good or really bad, thankfully I have now discovered a curry house in south leics that I am very happy with, I just wish i'd found it sooner.top marks all round, I honestly cannot wait to return with my wife and friends, but as i'm recovering from throat surgery baby food is about as exciting as life gets right now!

I had read positive reviews on this restaurant but noticed that most are over a year old so maybe it is now under new management? We went there with friends and our experience was far from positive sadly. The service was appalling! We waiting nearly 45 mins for drinks once ordered, despite politely reminding them three times. When the food 'finally' arrived the service was abrupt and the food itself was very bland and fatty. We certainly would not return there and would recommend to others to try the Bengal Cottage opposite as an alternative. The service is warm and friendly and the food is excellent!
