Sunam Balti House in Warwick

We stayed in the Holiday inn. Across the road. We love indian food. So thought we would try Sunam. Lovely staff. Very friendly. We had poppadoms with chutneys. Witch was lovely. Wife had chicken Biriani. I had Handi Gosht. OMG. Big chunks of Lamb that fell apart. Probably the best Lamb I've had. In the best curry I've had for a while. Wife was more than happy with her Biriani. I seen a Naan bread called Mr Lee's Naan. Apparently he's a regular who asked them to make the Naan it's got a bit of everything in it. So they put it on the menu. Lamb. Cheese. Chilli. Corriander. The best Naan we've had. Highly recommended. 👍

Really nice food and a very vibrant atmosphere and reasonably priced.

We enjoyed a delicious meal , prices good and staff were very friendly. Also you can take your own alcohol which is a bonus .😍

Staying overnight at the Holiday Inn on 16th August, could see this place was packed, so decided to join the queue. We were seated within ten minutes, the atmosphere was fantastic with the ZAPP attendees and locals. Staff were attentive, foid came quickly and chicken balti was up there with one of the best I have ever tasted!

I always start with the positives of any review I leave. So here’s the negatives, being served fizzy tap water in a S.Pelledrino bottle and desperately trying to hide the fact it had already been opened is shameful. The food tasted awful with cheap & old chicken used along with an attempt to cover this using lashings of garlic which failed it was that bad. The service was almost as poor as the atmosphere but only just. All this along with the smallest portions I’ve ever seen served in an Indian establishment means I shall be avoiding this restaurant for ever and ever.

Can't beat the service or the food. Love this place and their Scampi and chips!🤣

It has been Ten years due to moving house since we were weekly at the Sunam balti..THE STAFF FOODand PLACE is STILL AMAZING 😁😅....Highly reccomend this fantastic balti house from young to mature The welcome and food is exceptional...Even the staff remembered us even though were all a bit greyer now🤣🤣And the same chef is still there 31 years🍾🥂 cheers to all you food is Amazing we will see you all again soon and Not another 10 yrs.. Cheers all.❤

Despite having booked our table weeks ago the restaurant had no space for us when we arrived. Their policy is to cram in as many people as possible and never mind those people who have booked - a totally unacceptable way to run a restaurant. Avoid at all costs. We walked out and went to Raj Spice next door where we were treated to magnificent food with superb and swift serviceAvoid at all costs

Great evening dining. We booked last minute and glad we did so as it was absolutely buzzing. Waiters were run off their feet but never missed a beat and were unfailingly polite. Delicious food and very reasonable price. Wish we lived nearby as we would return ASAP!

Spotted this restaurant while we were staying in Kenilworth, and decided to book a table, which was the best decision we made ! Very busy when we arrived, which is always a good sign ! We chose paneer, and golda chingri starters, which were both excellent, and for mains we had, gosth katta masala, sunam special, with parathas, rice, and mushroom bhaji, they were absolutely amazing, best Indian food we’ve had in a very long time ! The staff were run off their feet, but our food was hot, and brought to our table in good time. I highly recommend visiting this little gem, make sure to book !

A Kenilworth institution after about 30 years, still excellent food at s sensible price

Been to the Sunam hundreds of times over the past 12 years leaving in Kenilworth. Never have we had a bad meal. Would recommend it to anyone who loves their curry. Plus you can always take your own drinks along. Great service and lovely owners who always make you feel welcome.

I thought it was great...New to me and the food was good.

Delicious local Indian. Poppadoms were so fresh and pickles delicious. I had the dashawari with paneer (basically a peshwari naan in curry form which is my favourite thing). Really tasty, very sweet but that suited me. Had it with chapatis which was the perfect accompaniment. Mushroom side was verrrrry salty wouldn’t order again. Everyone else enjoyed their food too. reasonably priced too!

Went in there with 14 friends. Great service given how busy it was. Everyone loved their food from chicken tandoori, vege dishes, fish and lamb. Starters and side dishes tasty. Just a range of lovely dishes. Just wish it still did kingfisher beer! Highly recommended

Nous avons extrêmement bien mangé et surtout avons été très bien conseillé sur les plats plus ou moins épicés. On peut même amener sa propre bouteille de vin pour accompagner les plats.

I dined alone quite early in the evening so the restaurant was not busy when I arrived but it did get busier while I was there. I had Onion Bhaji for starters and a Lamb Biryani for my main. Both were delicious. The service was very quick and the waiting staff were very polite.

We chose a great option and visited this Indian restaurant. The food was very tasty with rich flavours 😋The restaurant is clean and cozy. Nice Indian music and excellent service. Our waiter was professional. Everything was on time. The toilet room was clean. I recommend!🥰

This is great curry house - it has a homely traditional feel to it where the focus is on the food & the service. The chicken balti and chicken xhacuti are stand outs. We came here twice in a week 👍🏻

I went to the sunam last night for my birthday with family and girlfriend, having not been there for years and the food was very good and the staff were very friendly an excellent service I would definitely recommend it if you like a good curry and great atmosphere,

Ordered takeaway twice now, always given an estimated time, food arrives hot and delicious and driver is always in a suit which is sweet! Lovely restaurant, really fab they include allergens on all dishes too

Very good Indian food. Got a takeaway for an overnight stay. Very fast and efficient and friendly, obviously loved by the locals. Very nice taste to the dishes, recommended!

Terrible service. Lack of any empathy - we had not long arrived to have a family meal to celebrate a birthday, when one member of our family became ill suddenly - to the point of needing an ambulance blue lighted and then being taken to hospital. The service we received after that point was horrid. The short man, who appears as the boss of the restaurant, is a disgrace. Been many times before and the food is good, but the service has always been ok - not bad not good. Tonight it was disgusting given the emergency circumstance. I’d avoid.

One of our party had placed a reservation ahead but when an advance party of us four turned up without him and mentioned his name, they ignored it and immediately led us to a table with only four seats. When we mentioned we were a bigger party, they kept asking how many - we didn't know how many had been reserved and they couldn't find any information about the reservation... so we just sat and waited until the rest appeared. But it didn't show their reservation system in good light. Nonetheless, we were seated and sorted with pints of draught cobra, along with poppadums with a quite good range of 5 accompaniments, the mango chutney having a nice background bite rather than be over-sickly sweet. There was a pleasant smell of caramelised onions and tikka from frequently-brought sizzling platters all around us, and it was clear they cater for quite a variety of tastes and ages. Next time I may try a shashlick! I opted for the Tikka Chilli Massala, which was categorised as only one chilli strength, but came with plenty of sliced green chillies that created good heat spikes as punctuation, rather than have a dull samey burn throughout. My colleagues remarked that they quite enjoyed their Jal Frezie (one mentioned that they preferred it over the Xacuti the prior night, which I found quite sweet to the taste). Another of our party went for the Maricha - which was pretty bitey and let people know they'd ordered one with kick. I'd return again, but have to say I preferred the Lembu-style one I had in the Indian Edge... so will probably try the same in the Sunam at my next visit.

The restaurant had an authentic Indian feel. The food was really great and pricrs were lower than you would expect.

Food is excellent but service was lack lustre. Added to this, the fire alarm went off repeatedly and the owner refused to call out a engineer to fix it, presumably because it would have cost money. He was still happy to take new reservations/diners despite the deafening fire alarm sound. A small discount on the bill was given but in no way compensated for the thoroughly disrupted evening. Thanks Sunam - in future, please consider your customers experience ahead of the money going in your pocket. Greed never pays in the long term.

I can't remember the name of the dish I ordered. It was so fricking good. NOT for the faint hearted. If you want delicious butter chicken they got it. If you want hot, I had like a Lava Chicken curry. So hot I was sweating for an hour. Maricha! That's what it was called. I dare you!

Food is decent. Service is a impersonal. Poppadoms were cooked in old oil and served with cheap, sugary sauces. When asked for a special order, shortcuts were made.

Good food and service as normal and on a nice evening you can sit outside to eat as well!

Always have a lovely meal here and being able to bring your own drinks is a big bonus!!

Visited with friends on a very busy weekend evening, having previously visited numerous times with family. Service is prompt and friendly, the mains are always exceptional. Decor is simple and plain, but very clean, but you are going for great food and service.

Nice place and nice food. you can take your own drinks but not soft drinks. beware I purchased 2 half pints of coke and was charged £14 bit of a P## take to be honest, no need to charge that much for soft drink.

Good selection of pickles with the popadoms but my Dhansak missed the mark. The sauce was good and thick with lentils but it had neither the sweetness of pineapple nor he zing of lemon - which is surely the whole point if a dhansak?

Can't fault the food it is brilliant here. You can bring your own booze which is always a bonus or of course buy when you are there. Food is really tasty lots on the menu to choose from and very friendly staff who cant do more for you apart from one waiter who is constantly fairly shirty but maybe that's just his personality. Would recommend as one of the best places to eat in Kenilworth.

Nice Indian restaurant, staff very efficient , friendly and attentive, food and service was excellent .The menu has plenty of choice and they have a well stocked bar , but if you want to , you can bring your own drink . A lovely evening had by all .

Possibly one of the worst curries I’ve ever had. It was bland and tasteless. Won’t be returning. Don’t know if it was an off night or maybe they’ve changed hands as used to be ok

I’ve been here many times before and the food is generally good. But today, I went and ordered a king prawn rogan. Not a prawn (£6.95), but a KING prawn (£12.95). A significant markup. So when the dish came over and there were tiny little prawns in the dish (with tiny little tails, so definitely just small prawns), I was a bit annoyed as it’s almost double the price. I called the waiter over and he said they are definitely king prawns. I was surprised at this response because they were very clearly not king prawns, so then he went to go and get someone else. This next person “explained” to me that they were chopped up king prawns. I’m sorry what? Since when do you “chop up” king prawns and put them in a curry dish? They were definitely not they were tiny little prawns because they had curled up as they were slightly overdone. Really sad that they chose to lie and overcharge me instead of just admitting their mistake. Will never go again.

Been here a handful of times always great food, it does get very busy so I always book, Screens still in place between tables. Next time we are in Kenilworth we will be back.

The meal was nice here and cooked well. We would say that the chefs are good but the portion sizes are the smallest we know in an Indian restaurant. Particularly the amount of meat/fish/prawns that you get. Also tiny rice and side dish portions so we say that good food here but a mean Management too gready for a profit

Had a lovely meal last night as always. Just s shame the owner can't even say hello how are you. Won't be going in for a while now!

Bad customer service! We actually liked the food. Came here for the third time in July-August. But tonight one staff was very rude, pulling faces and being very sarcastic about what he thought was not enough orders. There were 5 of us, myself, my husband and my two kids with their grandpa. We ordered 2 main dish, 3 side dishes which was quite a lot. Our kids had their tea so was not looking to eat at the restaurant. This particular staff said that ‘you have 5 people, why only 2 main dish’. So I asked, ‘so are we not allowed to sit here if we don’t order a main dish?’ Pulled a face and said ‘I’ll serve you for now….’. Oh gosh, very rude behaviour. We know our portion and those 2 main dishes was enough. Why need to order more and just waste food? We just wanted a nice evening out, but instead the waiter made our evening very unpleasant. Made us feel guilty for even sitting there. Couldn’t wait to get out of there. Definitely never coming again because of bad manners. Shame.

It was great to be back enjoying a 1st class Balti.The welcome was as warm as ever, even though it’s been over 12 months since our last visit. The 5 of us all had different meals, including 2 veggie Balti’s, and they were all full of flavour, and thoroughly enjoyed by all. I went for the lamb Tikka chilli Balti and the lamb was tender and full of flavour.

I've been using the Sunam for many years and haven't once had a bad meal, and during lockdown have enjoyed some fabulous take outs. Just sitting here now in the sunshine for some Al fresco dining and looking forward to some tasty treats, keep up the good work!

The best in Kenilworth. The food is varied and delicious. The staff are friendly and attentive. The price is great value across the menu. I have been eating here for 20+ years and never had a bad meal.

Given the pandemic - the takeaway 2 weekends on the bounce the Sunam has been excellent. Rack different meal really distinctive and high quality. Best curry in Kenilworth- superb.

Went to this restaurant to be rudely placed in a seat next to a wall (empty) asked for 1.5 kingfisher lager ordered popodom starter then asked for a single main course as it was only my partner wanted to eat to be rudely told I had to buy 2 main course’s or we could not eat inside. I was then over charged as if to make a PROFIT when queried receipt was snatched then reduced. If this is the way they treat there costumers not surprised it was empty AVOID PEOPLE. PHOTO ATTACHED
