Had my evening meal in the Bar, it was very good! The menu had some good choices, all my party (12 of us) enjoyed their meals.

The bar is dog friendly and the barman was friendly and helpful. The beer (brewed on site I think) was a let down. Weird mock-medieval decor, with chunky, almost Flintstones-ish furniture. Didn't eat and the food menu looked pricey for what it was.

We visited for sunday lunch, as we won the most recent facebook competition. We won the sharing platter for 2. To say there was more then enough would be an understatement plenty of food meat was cooked to perfection and the whole meal was presented perfectly (we even had to take some home) plenty of vegetables too! The customer service we received from the moment we walked through the door was second to non! Staff were very attentitive! We were thrilled with the service and now considering booking our wedding with them!

The hotel is in a great location, shame it's let down by lack of facilities. The wi-fi is provided by a wireless connection rather than a landline, therefore just as bad as the non-existent mobile signal. I did book a premier en-suite room, but only a very tiny cupboard with a sink and toilet was provided and which even though I'm a small person I could not even close the door as I could not fit in the said cupboard and not exactly what I would call premier and hate to think what the standard room was like.

The waitress/ bartender / receptionist lady worked so hard and was so professional, she was a stand-out in an otherwise mediocre/tired/ frayed round the edges hostelry. The ‘refurbished’ room was scruffy, we could hear the guest nextdoor snoring for 8 hours, and everything was way too much trouble for the tall blond bartender with no patience, no air of a warm welcome and absolutely no charm. A beautiful part of the world with so many places to choose from to stay: avoid this 80s throwback.

Fantastic location in a lovely town of warkworth but expensive small so called double room. Very misleading when booking as it shows a picture of a lovely double room with a freestanding bath but when getting our keys we had a room where you were lucky if you could move in it. £130 a night and felt very this was overpriced for what we had. The room didn’t even have glasses in the room just plastic throwaway cups. The windows didn’t open and there wasn’t any curtains at the window whereas in the light mornings you need curtains up. A very small bathroom as well as. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast was nice but would have been nice to have someone serve you who could have chatted to the customers about their visit.

Called today to make a reservation for Sunday roast (party of 6), unfortunately a reservation wasn’t made as the gentleman I spoke to was both quite negative and rude in his response to my questions. What a shame as this was a party of 6 adults wanting to order food and drinks, looks like another pub will benefit from my custom and money. I appreciate the gentleman may have tried to call back after our call ended quite abruptly but this was too little too late, such a shame as the Sun Hotel holds a special place in my heart (had my wedding reception here).

Lovely dog friendly hotel and bar nestled in the heart of beautiful Warkworth and overlooking the castle. This was our second visit. We stayed in room 8 which was a triple room suitable for two adults and two dogs and had a view of both the castle and the estuary down to Amble Harbour. Some small snagging issues; the tv remote didn’t turn the tv on and off and it was difficult to reduce the shower temperature. The hotel is very clean and tidy. Perfect base for walking to the beach and along the riverbank to the Hermitage. The staff were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble for them including searching for a lost pair of gloves! We had an evening meal and drinks in the stylish bar which was lovely. Breakfast is served in the most beautiful room and using high quality ingredients. We will be back!

Ended up here by chance after exploring the castle. Decided to order the Sunday dinner platter for 2 and oh my goodness it didn't disappoint! Lots of veg on the plate and then a board full of 3 different meats, roast potatoes and 4 massive yorkshire puddings! The meats were all tender (pork, lamb and beef) and the gravy was one the most tastiest gravy I have ever had. Excellent value fir money, good service and a lovely pub atmosphere with a roaring fire on the go! Can't wait to return and bring the rest of the family.

Barman was very friendly even though he was extremely busy. All of our food was gorgeous. My steak pie was lovely and obviously home made. Lovely cosy pub. Visited the Castle Brew House for an evening meal with other family members. From the very start the experience was spoilt by a very miserable and grumpy barman. Everything seamed too much for him to do and he was very unwelcoming. Firstly I asked if we could have a tab and his reply was very abrupt stating they do not do tabs. I fully appreciate why but the curt response was uncalled for. Having ordered the drinks I asked if we paid for the food when we ordered it. The reply was again very curt with him telling me that 1 person should pay for all of the meals and collect the money off the others later! When we finally orders the food 1 of the group wanted skinny chips rather than fat cut. When I asked if they could change the chips the barman was very unhelpful and stated that if he changed the chips we would only have a small portion of skinny chips as they were a starter size. I would have expected him to have gladly substitute the chips, but no, that was too much trouble. How inflexible! The food we had was very enjoyable but the experience was spoiled by the attitude of a very grumpy barman. Everything appeared too much trouble for him. I have recently moved to the area and liked the look of the Castle Brew House but after this experience may never return.

We went in for lunch mid week. This was a walk in as the website said no booking was accepted. From the moment we walked in the staff member that served us was rude and angry. He may have been having a bad day but there was no need to take it out on customers, especially as a number of our party have health issues and did not understand when the server was barking orders at us. The food was actually quite good and the pub has a nice cozy feel (we had quite a different experience when we popped in for a drink 2 nights prior - different member of staff was serving). Very disappointed to receive such bad service. Had we not been with elderly relatives we would have walked out and eaten elsewhere. Such a shame to tarnish what would otherwise have been a great Warkworth eatery.

Decidedly average in all regards, particularly in terms of the approach of the staff. As stated by others, the welcome was far from welcoming. Clearly, given its location, this place suffers from having far too many visitors, certainly that’s how it felt, based on the extremely lacklustre reaction from the bar staff upon entry. It actually felt like we were an inconvenience. The food itself was ok, average to reasonable, but didn’t make up for the atmosphere, disappointingly, as a result we won’t be rushing back anytime soon. Shame as it is certainly in an impressive and very pleasant location.

Out for a walk and stopped by for drinks and snacks. Drinks were fine, however the shared nachos were the worst we have ever had. Dry and thrown together. The saddest part of this review is the staff. Completely disinterested - seems to mirror the other TA reviews. The blonde staff member clearly had her family at a table and spent at least half an hour talking to them, ignoring all the customers and not clearing away any plates etc. This could be a great spot, but big changes needed. We won’t be back.

We stayed overnight in the Hotels "premier" room on a B&B basis. (Roll-top bath in the bedroom) The hotel is directly opposite the English Heritage site of the very impressive, well preserved ruins of Warkworth Castle, which is definitely well worth a visit. Sadly, we feel the hotel really isn't. This has obviously been a large, impressive, grand hotel, back in its day, but sadly it is now way past its best, and realistically the amount of money it would need to bring it back up to a modern high standard, probably can't ever be justified by the hotels income. The current owner seems to have invested oddly in "improvements ", while ignoring some simple, obvious improvements desperately needed. Wi-fi connectivity was really poor. Very unstable in the bar, non existent in the bedroom. There was a domestic wi-fi booster in the first floor bedroom corridor, but at floor level! The most inappropriate spot to place any signal booster. It was impossible to get a connection to wi-fi in our room. Really frustrating. Our premier room had a large roll top bath dominating the bedroom but only a tiny corner of the room had been cheaply partitioned off, to enclose a small washbasin and toilet. It would have been much more practical to build a better ensuite to include a shower. A cheaper and much more practical solution for most guests. Similarly, the bedroom furniture was very odd. The bed was comfortable for sure (although the pillows were like flat concrete slabs- bad knecks !), but the furniture was like a dated Disney Land fantasy design. Why? Nothing went with the room, building or setting. The room was also in need of a deep clean, with large cob webs well established in the bedroom curtains. And the washbasin drain was partially blocked . Despite advertising that food was available all day, it isn't. The chef had "popped out" for a couple of hours, 2 customers were told during the late afternoon, so no food was available. We had looked forward to visiting their adjoining Steak House, until we popped our head into the "restaurant ". It is essentially an adjoining conservatory desperately looking for a purpose. A Steakhouse it isn't. We decided to eat out at one of the other, cleaner, more wecoming and comfortable pubs, down in the village. There was however some good points during our stay. Firstly, the hotel is dog friendly. The reception from Harry, the duty manager, was warm and welcoming. Breakfast was fantastic. Excellent quality and generous portions. Staff at breakfast were very friendly too, with nothing too much trouble. But sadly, these don't compensate for the other issues. And there are much better, cleaner, higher quality hotels in the village, which are also dog friendly, at the same or lower price point.

MENU / PRICES I was looking for somewhere for us to go out with eating out every weekend either for lunch or dinner as living local so I regularly check out the menus . The only menu for the The Sun I saw was looking very reasonably priced one item on the menu Scampi and chips £10.95 looked like a ( really old menu)I read before going ? The price for Scampi was actually £14.95 🫢 shocked All prices didn’t resemble what it said on line 2 hrs before visiting . That goes for all items on the menu Not good if you are budgeting and call in with a family of 4/6 people on spec When you looked at menu online before visiting the Hotel the menu should be the same price when you read it in the venue when you get there . If for some reason I missed the new menu accept my apologies , But if there is a new menu on your web site these are out dated prices these certainly need taken down as it is misrepresenting. I’ve found a few Pubs and hotels are still showing out of date menu prices being advertised these need changed . Unfortunately we are all taking a hit on the cost of living . Website price today £13.95 still not £14.95 ? Looks like at 3 least different menus with different prices .

A hotel is by definition supposed to be hospitable and offer hospitality. The Sun Inn fails on both counts. When I phoned to ask about availability, I could hardly hear what the young man on the other end was saying because there was such a racket in the background. I asked if there was a better time for me to call back and was told very churlishly "This IS a hotel reception you know!" I phoned on another occasion to ask if they had any recommendations for local taxi companies and was told to "Google it!"On arrival they took full payment up front. We were booked for 2 nights, and would have left after the 1st night. Our shower only came out in a temperamental dribble and when we asked if they could fix it we were told there was "nothing wrong with it". The room was not serviced during our stay (there had been no indication that they would not be servicing the rooms because of COVID)We ate in the bar on the Sunday evening at 7.30pm where they offered "All-day roasts" I asked when the meat had been roasted and was cheerily told "This morning"! I had pasta with chicken and pesto sauce as the safest option, which was completely lacking in any flavour or seasoningAt £124 for room and breakfast, please don't waste your hard-earned money in this establishment - they clearly do not value your patronage or care about your comfort or well-being

Waited 20 minutes but no one came to take our order. Went inside. Was told to sit down and someone would take my order. Waitress walked straight past. Took food order from next table but ignored us. After another 20 minutes decided to leave.

Some of the worst food thats ever been placed in front of me! We booked table for 12 noon, we were the only people in the restaurant and we still had to wait nearly an hour for it to turn up! And even after waiting that long they somehow managed to serve the food cold! The carrots and broccoli were pretty much crunchy and the Yorkshire pudding felt like it had just came out the fridge! I’m not sure if the beef was some sort of pre packed stuff or it had been cooked and sliced a day or 2 ago, the chicken was described as very dry by my son and the roast potatoes we completely full of grease. It’s such a shame because it has so much potential to be a great place and the waitress was really pleasant. We were a group of 8 and we all refused to eat the food so that says it all, we did complain and were not charged for any food or our drinks which was a nice touch but the whole experience was very disappointing and we certainly won’t be returning after the experience.

The best place we found to eat in Warkworth, so we went back the next evening as well. They're dog-friendly and serve a good range of beers as well as excellent food. Well worth it.

First impression was not good , the greeting far from friendly or welcoming from the male behind the bar . We were told to find a table outside our drinks arrived but no one came to take our food order in twenty minutes. So we paid for the soft drinks and left which seemed expensive seeing it was supposed to be 50 off.

A sunny day, a view of the castle and one of the best burgers I have had in a long time. I think the management must have read some of the recent reviews because service was much better than they would have suggested.

Tried twice to go for food. We opted to sit outside, on entering the bar to order, they took our details and asked us to sit down for table service. But then didn't bother to come and serve us. Awful service.

Although the food was average, the location was good. I sat on the outdoor terrace with the fantastic Warkworth castle right above me. The staff were very good but there are too few of them. This place could be the best venue in town with some thought given to the menu and the staffing arrangements.

Posh fish and chips - delicious, Pie and mash - really good, Chicken Pesto pasta - amazing and a large portion, Fish and Chips - beautiful batter and good chunky chips.Had an outside table, all covid restrictions were adhered to. The staff were all friendly and helpful and made sure we were asked regularly enough if we wanted any more drinks. The young man with the round glasses (mentioned in a previous review) stood out as being cheerful, hard working and friendly.

We stopped at The Sun for a drink but ended up having lunch. The Sunday dinner sharer board was fantastic & my husband had fish & chips which was amazing. Service was a little slow but I think they just needed more staff, the young lad (with round glasses) who served us was lovely & we weren’t in a hurry. Will defo return!

We used to visit here quite regularly and you used to book well in advance to get table.Thought it was strange when our party of 3 adults and 2 children where only ones in the two restaurants..Put at table right at door when the restaurant was empty.Ordered platter for 2 for £25 pound one adult pork £10and one child’s meal.£6The waitress was very professional and polite ordered drinks fine.Main meals came out sharing platter on board and main courses on plate.Yorkshire puddings had just come out of cold storage still chilled.Waitress immediately responded and went and ordered fresh.Main course of pork it must be in short supply in warkworth it was the smallest. Driest pieces of pork I have ever tasted asked the waitress about portion and she said but you have a sausage on the menu it did say it came with sausage but I thought it would be a small chipotle usually served with pork not a breakfast sausage,The platter consisted of lamb beef sausage and pork. All the meat was very dry and chewy.roast potatoes had been deep fried.needless to say did not stay for deserts.Waitress asked if everything was okay when we told her our complaints said she would speak to chef took our money and said goodbye.Such a shame lovely place with nice views.

We stayed at the Sun Hotel as a family for a few days. We were greeted with a friendly smile and all staff were very helpful. The breakfast was delicious and we ate at the pub next door or in the steakhouse every night and were not disappointed. We're even took took our 2 dogs and they were warmly welcomed and fully part of our trip away. Will definitely stay there again next time wr are visiting the area.

We used to visit here for their amazing homemade steak & ale pie with beautiful creamy mash & veg ! But there has clearly been changes in the kitchen as-well as the bar !!! It took a lifetime to order as the guy on the bar was as awkward & unhelpful as he possibly could have been !! The steak & ale pie was not only very sad looking !! But the meat was gristly chewy and completely flavourless !! There was no mash ready so we all had to have chips !! And the carrots were cooked to pulp !!! ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE !! We will never return !! It was bloody awful & very expensive !!

Visited for Sunday lunch with family and it was really quiet and peaceful. The Sunday roast was ok but there wasn’t a lot of meat; I had the pork. The soft drinks were expensive.

Its a while since we've been, won't hurry back. Went for breakfast, no egg on menu, no choice of white or brown bap, tea was bag in cup no pot, took so long to arrive our drinks were gone.

Lovely place great staff. We had sandwiches but was asked if we would like salad or crisps or coleslaw with them . Everywhere I’ve been to offers you all 3! Especially at £12 per sandwich. Too expensive.
