Update 28/03/24 - As below!! Still the best chippy for miles. Update 30/06 - Still cracking value, friendly staff, and massive portions....oh, and it tastes great too. Best chippy in the area. The food here was extremely tasty, and the portions plentiful. They've put covid measures in place, including perspex screens and limited numbers inside at any one time. I ended up queuing outside as it was so popular. I would therefore highly recommend that you book in advance, as they have a separate serving area for collections. The one crisis about this place is they appeared to do little to encourage people to wear face coverings. Despite being in the highest tier, the majority of people going into the shop didn't wear masks - very disappointing. If they'd attempted to address this then they would have received 5 stars.

First time there for me. I wasn't disappointed at all. You know its going to be good when people are queueing through the door at 1pm on a Saturday afternoon. The specials menu looked amazing value for money. A huge portion for the money. All freshly cooked. Really friendly staff who talked me through what I could have. Tasted as good as it looked. Struggled to finish it all. I Will definitely return and have no problem recommending this chip shop. A good chippy is hard to find. And this is a good traditional chippy.

Checked on website that it was open. This as happened 3 times now. My husband went down and it was closed. Very poor. If having a website it needs to be continually updated.

Just had 2 fish specials, chips scrappy , fish minimal costed in batter that looked like it has been coated twice and fried quite hard , peas nice that's all I can say rubbish , only went cos down the road closed on Tues wint be going again

Whatyou are charged on separate weekly visits for the exact same order changes everytime, the highest was £15 the lowest £12......

I had a battered fish cake with chips and mushy peas. It was delicious and reasonably priced. Good service.

Great fish and chips. Busy at times but worth the weight. The only downside is that they limit the choice of food items in the last hour before closing time.

2 Fish and chip specials, Fish looked to have been fried twice as two layers of batter round a very small portion of fish, made it look bigger than it was, possibly a child's size, Not the usual quality I've had from here in the evening, just treating a friend to lunch, how disappointing and embarrassing it was having said how good they were. Had a bowl of soup with the chips.

Very disappointed with our two fish specials purchased on Friday lunch time at 11:30 am. The fish looked to have been refried as two layers of batter that came off a miniscule portion of the fish. Still a good portion of very nice chips though. Having had Fish Specials numerous times in the evening and all have been good. Thus my disappointment when treating a friend to what I had said was a good lunch option. I know you can do better Summer Lane Fish Bar.

Super service. Nice to see freshly caught UK coast cod and UK grown potatoes with no GM produce. Our Emergency Service on duty personnel are catered for as priority if queuing, which is how it should be. I'm vegan so was actually buying for family so can't comment further, but good ethics on fresh local produce. Large fish £7 Small chips £2.80

Orders 2 fish specials and I was given a child's special. When I question it the girl looked at me like I was stupid. She was too busy looking at her phone

We went last night and was very disappointed. The fish had soggy batter and the chips and peas were stone cold. We waited in a que for half an hour so you would think that they would been fresh and hot. We won't be going back there.

Good value for your money and fish here not scrappy and dry, it is a decent piece of white fish. The chips are good too. Well worth trying and you won't want to go anywhere else.

Absolutely disgusting soggy greasy chips not even edible straight thrown in bin. Supposed to be best chippy in Wombwell I wouldn't even feed them greasy undercooked chips to my dog, I'm not happy gets worser every time we go, totally ruined our tea and cost nearly 15 pound, I recommend people avoid!

Guys you really need to change you’re oil. Tonight was the worst I’ve had in ages. All went in the bin. Old burnt oil. I know Oil is expensive at the moment but after tonight we won’t come back. I’m sorry… such a shame.

Used to be good. I know prices have to rise due to the current climate but the quality shouldnt drop. Bought chips and pattie and the amount of salt in the pattie made inedible. If it doesnt improve it will be closed down soon such a shame

I do like the food from Summer Lane but I'm not a big chip eater so asked for a small scoop of chips in a tray and was still charged £1.50 as if I'd bought a small portion of chips

Nice food, staff were nice but visibly stressed because the fryers had gone off just at the busiest time, felt for them.

Tonight we used summer lane fish bar like we have many evenings before for a treat tea my partner had fishcake the potato slices with fish an batter type he threw most away as it was so well done he couldn't eat it first time we've been disappointed with summer lane normal would have been five stars from us but not this evening

Large fish eas no bigger than a jumbo suasage and looked like it had been cut in 2 was not worth the £8.10 A place to give it miss the one on high street far better by a mile and cost way less

So I went here thinking yeah get some food. There's a sign on the door that clearly states no more than 3 people in the store at any time. There's a couple of people in front of me and this old fella walks in behind me, pushes past me, not wearing a mask and asks for his order. I mention that one there's a queue, and two if he can read the sign on the door. The fella serving takes his side and says "don't worry, you'll get served" in the most condescending voice he could. Walked out and most definitely won't be going there again. Utter joke when businesses don't even take a virus that can f*****g kill people seriously. Utter joke, if you care about your health or that of your family then avoid this place.

Never had a bad one, always fresh cooked and really good portion size for a reasonable price what's not to like! 👍
