Everything about this pub exceeded expectations: the 5-7 deals are worthwhile, the cocktails are legitimately phenomenal, the food is delicious and generous, the tunes and atmosphere is quaintly elegant, and more. We came for pints and dove straight into their Wednesday - Friday happy hour specials. Expertly crafted cocktails at a great price! This is our new favourite pub in Cheltenham and we will 100% be back.... weekly!

We came here for my husband's birthday dinner and as usual, we were not disappointed. Mark and his team made us feel very welcome, the waitress Sorrell was lovely as was the Irish chef who chatted to us. The food was delicious and ambience great. All 6 of us were very happy. We have been here a number of times and will definitely be back!

Suffolk Arms Excels Again I was celebrating a significant birthday and wanted to invite some of my closest friends to a party, just a casual event, but we also wanted to champion our local pub where we have always been so well treated and to be honest it felt as if they were part of our extended family. We wanted a special menu featuring Welsh produce, and settled on Welsh Rarebit, Cawl(Lamb stew with bread and cheese) as well as the more traditional Scotch Egg starter, Pie and mash as alternatives, and their own delicious deserts, finally if anyone had room a Welsh Cheese board to finish off. Those Big Boy Pies are fantastic and on the night we had a special order of Welsh Beef and Stilton, truly scrumptious. We also wanted some different wines that were not on their usual list, and if possible Kylie Minogue to sing Happy Birthday in the style of Marilyn Monroe, and guess what they delivered everything on the menu but apparently Miss Minogue was unavailable which was a pity because I’m sure she would have enjoyed the atmosphere in the pub just as much as we all did, and I hear she is also partial to the traditional Aussie pie, mash and gravy, in which case she would surely love the Big Boy Pies as much as we all do. Mark, Liam, Sorrell, and their colleagues could not have been more accommodating, everyone raved about the food especially the Cawl. The team at the pub decorated our table and made me feel very special on the night and could not have been nicer and given the fact that we were very noisy and celebrated for more than four hours they were also very understanding. The food was fantastic, the service outstanding and the people could not have done more for us, this must be the best local in Cheltenham, and one that we will be coming back to at every opportunity.

Recently visited the Suffolk Arms with a large table to celebrate a family birthday. The staff were great ahead of time to ensure allergies were catered for. We were requested to pre book our meals which is understandable with such a large table but it did provide some frustrations. A number of people opted for the Pork T Bone with sautéed potatoes, seasonal greens and peppercorn sauce. On arrival we were told that they had no Pork T Bones and they had been substituted for bacon chop (assuming it was just the cut of meat was substituted) Frustrating seeing as they had our order for quite a few days but fair enough. What was more frustrating is that the entire meal changed without us realising and each of us were given gammon, egg and chips which is completely different from what was on the menu we had to pick from ahead of time. Similarly with the blade of beef - This was meant to come with mash and vegetables but instead came with chips and salad which again wasn’t what was preordered. When the food came, everyone spoke very highly of the starters. Particularly the calamari and buffalo chicken which were both very good. The main meals were very average with the pies probably the highlight. Everyone who had the pork/bacon chop commented that it was extremely salty and had we known ahead of time that the whole meal was going to change then we would have changed our order. Overall the meal ok. Starters very good, mains pretty average but the staff were very good and accommodating. Perhaps we suffered from the kitchen having to knock out 16 main meals at the same time as we heard really good things about the place ahead of time.

We came for Mother's Day lunch, I've given 3 stars because the place is a great location, and the young waiting staff couldn't have been more helpful and kind. However, elements of all 4 of our Sunday roasts weren't great. The yorkshire puddings were rock hard, dry and burnt, quite inedible, and the parsnips and carrots were also incredibly hard and and undercooked. The rest was good, but this did let it down. Perhaps it was a busy day, I'm sure it's one of the busiest of the year for any pub! ... But we had to ask for replacements, and although the waiting staff were very polite and helpful, I saw the chef scowl and mutter through the open kitchen - which everyone can easily see from the dining room. This made me feel very uncomfortable and a nuisance, which should absolutely not have happened, so someone needs to let him know this should not happen. I'd like to think we'd be back, but I wouldn't return on a busy day.

Nice, genuine pub, with good beers. The barman made us feel very welcome. He was always ready to take our drinks order, but his young assistant, looked bored and uninterested. Definitely recommended. Update: One year later, the food was still good, however there was no-one serving the bar. i went to the kitchen and asked the chef if he knew where the bar staff were. he got very angry and stormed off. About five minutes later another surely young girl appeared and served us. No smile, just a scowl, obviously unhappy someone wanted to buy drinks. So its a case of hit and miss with the service. And my reward for all this trouble a 10% service charge! Are you serious!!!

The food was amazing, i had the Cajun chicken burger and it was incredible. For dessert i had the sticky toffee pudding which was also delicious. However the service went from 10/10 to 1/10 really fast once one of the waiters had left. At 3 o’clock we realised it was different staff and we had empty plates in front of us for at least 20 minutes. The waiter had seen us sat there with empty plates and just ignored us. We then had to go to the bar to get a dessert menu and then continued to wait for someone to actually acknowledge us. We then proceeded to go to the bar to order desserts whilst the waiter was stood talking to someone at the bar. Finally after 30/40 minutes of dirty plates being sat in front of us, they were moved. If it was busy i would be able to see why we were completely ignored but we were the only table in. It’s unfortunate as the food was incredible and the service to start was amazing, i didn’t catch the name of the waiter unfortunately but credit to him. If you like to sit and enjoy yourself, i wouldn’t recommend it here😊

The pub was also warm with a lovely real fire. We had desserts and cider and I was so pleased to find a dairy free option on the menu. The chefs did a great job on decorating the plate for the caramel slice and brownie which we enjoyed. I asked them chef for a picture as the lighting wasn't good enough to do justice to the desserts! Service and atmosphere was faultless. Sadly the food was such a disappontment. We had a chicken and pork roast. We are roast connoisseurs (if such a title exists), and this was so bland. The gravy had no taste. The pork tasted almost like lamb in that it was so fatty. I didn’t eat it. The carrots were undercooked and gritty. The yorkshires were claggy and also tasted of lambs fat. The cauliflower cheese was undercooked and burned simultaneously. The potatoes were the saving grace. Was a real disappointment and a shame to spend so much money on bad food

Felt a bit ignored. For some reason there was confusion when we went to the bar to order more drinks for the table - like that particular act had never happened before. Dining area was nice to sit in, but I've never understood an open kitchen. I don't need to see a chef doing his job (and you can't anyway when sat down below the level of the window), and you just end up leaving the pub smelling of food. Anyway, maybe that's just me.

I had the vegetarian option, it was really lovely but the veg was extremely hard and difficult to cut, only a small bowl of green veg to share between 4 people and the yorkie was a bit burnt. A positive though, plenty of gravy! The staff were lovely and super friendly and perhaps the usual weekday meals are better? Lots of my colleagues said it was the best works Christmas meal they’d had in a long time. Thank you Suffolk Arms for making it an enjoyable day.

Delicious Sunday roast! The pub had a welcoming and cosy atmosphere. We were greeted promptly and received excellent service throughout our dining experience. Also, very dog-friendly/welcoming. My pup enjoyed the attention, gravy bones, and a bowl of fresh water provided by the staff.

Called in around 4pm & it was fairly quite, the landlord was very welcoming. The is traditionally decorated, clean & a nice the open fire. We only had drinks, but they serve food & everything seemed reasonable price. Would recommend.

Really great Sunday Lunch ! Service was good and quick ! Food was tasty and well prepared. Only dislikes needs a jug of gravy as ran out partly to Yorkshires stored under headlamp and Cheese straight from the fridge too cold kiting the flavour, but that said I will return.

We had chicken korma and chicken Tikka masala, neither of which tasted like they should. It was edible but not great. My peshwari naan was very dry and had a powderlike substance in it. I had to mix my naan w the korma sauce just to eat it, it was that dry. Rice was Luke warm. Will be ordering again.

How the staff cope with the amount of work they have here I don't know. They are all excellent, as is the consistency of the coffee and cakes. In a prime position on the promenade. My partner noticed a foreign customer pick up food and not bothering to wait to pay just walked out, it seems that this is a common occurence.

Food is ok and chips nice but very expensive for what you get really. Over £3 for a small fishcake that was average. Small cod is definitely small! I think you used to get more chips for money too. Also suprised staff aren't required to wear hair nets etc when preparing food but that is probably just my not knowing. They still use the award as marketing but was a while ago now! Staff are friendly though and not too long a wait
