Subway in Colchester

From the many many reviews we have written in our lives, my wife and I have never written a negative one until now. If we could give a '0' rating to this Subway, in Turner Rise Retail Park, we would. My wife ordered a Steak and Cheese Sub and was very excited to add on lettuce, tomato, onions, jalapeños and cucumber (which has always been a highlight of being able to order from Subway). However, when her sandwich came out of the oven, the man who made it began to immediately put it in a bag. When she asked him to add the other items to the sandwich, he replied "No. It comes with these onions and cheese." She looked at him in shock and said "Wow! Are you kidding me?" AND he responded "No" and continued wrapping the sandwich without any of the other ingredients I politely asked for. We have been ordering from Subway for years and years and have never been told we could not have the salad items to put on the sandwich we ordered - until today! The man who made her sandwich at 2.30pm today (28th Jan 24) was rude and blatantly told her "No" when it would have only taken him less than 10 seconds more to add the extra items. INCREDIBLY POOR SERVICE AND WE WILL NEVER COME TO THIS SUBWAY AGAIN and it has actually now cast a shadow over the whole Subway experience for us.

went in for 2 breakfast rolls,1 of which was gluten free. i asked for breakfast bacon but noticed he was putting on the thin strips of bacon that they use in a BLT etc. i just assumed that they had run out of the breakfast bacon. ordered a coffee and a tea and when i went to pay he wanted to charge me £9.90. i said that was wrong and he said no you asked for 2 bacon rolls, thats £9.90. i told him i asked for breakfast bacon when i went to give him the rolls back he offered to charge me for breakfast rolls. i was paying by card and just as i was paying i noticed that he had not changed the amount from £9.90. i told him and he had to give me change in cash. when i finally got to sit down i looked at my receipt i had not collected any subway points, the machine was down, but the receipt said they would be added as soon as the machine was working again. 24 hours later still no points and he charged me for 2 gluten free rolls when i only ordered 1. Do not use

What else can I say but this place is filthy! The tables are dirty, the chairs are dirty, the floor was covered in food (it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in days!), no one was cleaning or clearing the tables the whole time I was in there!? The staff at the counter weren't really taking much notice in what they were doing, their uniforms looked unclean and in need of replacing! The boy who served me wasn't even wearing his face mask properly (it was around his chin). Now I understand I can't prove I was unwell due to this place but I felt unwell a few hours after eating the salad from here and had bad stomach pains and an upset stomach, so I believe it was to to with the poor hygiene standards (I will be emailing them). Beware and avoid!

Waiting for a delivery to turn up after the initial time i was given i gave them another 20 mins then phoned them waited another 25 mins still a no show. Had nearly 2 hrs of talking to subway and just eat my order got cancelled. Wont bother again

Usually go to co op peartree road but was on A12 thought I'd get breakfast. What a mistake with, don't sell hot drinks and choice of just 2 breads. No spicy cheese and no sweet chilli. Oh and soft drinks machine had run out. Don't bother with this one it's pity full

Rubbish don’t bother over an hour for a sandwich to be delivered then only half the order arrives so refund given for items not delivered ok But When sandwich opened not what ordered things in I’m allergic too so reorder only to be asked for money for things that they’ve now delivered that they missed on the first order Having waited over two hours for a sandwich meal All thrown in the bin because I’ve already eaten not a great impression of Colchester so glad I’m only a visitor for a day

Fantastic quick service and an excellent choice of fillings will go again without any hesitation everything was clean and tidy

Took the kids in for lunch on a Sunday. Every table was filthy and covered in food or wrappers. The floor looked like it hadnt been mopped in days. No napkins to use ourselves, drinks area filthy. Considering this is a new Subway the cleaning standards are awful. 6 members of staff serving, which was good but 1 of them should have been assigned to clean. Not impressed!

This is the worst place I’ve ever been ! Dirty , dirty , dirty ! Everywhere you look. Poor hygiene standards, I had to watch the poor handling of food, from meat to salad, without changing gloves. How anyone would want to eat here is beyond me, and how it hasn’t been shutdown I don’t know . AVOID

Went there on Sunday it is a nice big subway shame on how it is going the food was fine the staff didn’t really listen to what salad you wanted as one of ours was done wrong but we didn’t say anything the main thing I am complaining about is the needed a good clean or at least a sweep and the bins were overflowing there was a lot of rubbish just balancing on the top of bins there seem to be enough staff to cope so why is this being left it annoyed my husband that much he was going to say something , it’s a shame could be a nice subway in a good spot with good parking

I would just walk straight past. Filthy place with incompetent staff. Terrible food and equally disappointing food.

I only popped in for a take away but the venue was clean and the staff were nice and welcomed me. Looked like a nice place to work and the staff enjoyed serving us. It's right next to a Costa and this Subway has outdoor seating and plenty of parking at Turner Park Estate.

I had the turkey ham with cheese. in a delicious Italian herb and cheese bread. drizzled with mayo and it tasted.... just..... just right. I also had 2 strawberry cheesecake cookies and the only bad thing about them was the last bite. And a few word from my mate that also enjoyed this meal. smoked a fat doobie. and the food was heaven. just like the piff ting

First time in this new one near Asda service was quick only held up because the previous customer in the queue had a big pram and was blocking the way to the till. As usual hubby had his veggie delite which he enjoyed. I wanted a Turkey but not available so had the Chicken instead which was also good. More important the staff were very cheerful and seem to enjoy their work.

There are cleaning issues in this subway. Every-time the manager and supervisor is on duty the portion sizes of salad in the rolls gets dribbled in. if it carries on I will report the matter to subway head office. be warned about car parking around there it's a nightmare! with a huge fine awaiting customers. One member of staff in there I caught brown nosing the manager running another employee down obviously behind their back, is not good for customers to hear is it or professional? Instead of wasting time talking idle gossip why not get a brush broom and dustpan and clean the place. Typical subway, nice venue, staff leave a lot to be desired and as for the manager there (I wont go there)!

Popped in to buy the "large drink, get ur sub free & we did!! All enjoyed our lunch & we will be back!

A useful addition to the takeaway food ecology of Turner Rise, Subway faces competition on the retail park site from Costa, Pizza Hut and the Asda in-store cafe. The last-named has had to raise its game from a fairly dismal base to meet the pressure. Free parking and closeness to buses and trains will ensure that Subway gets a steady flow of customers.

This is a fairly new Subway and is a great addition to the retail park. We popped in for a quick bite and can not fault it. Most of the tables were occupied (a good sign) but we found one with comfortable bucket type seats and a two seater sofa, the seating area is spotlessly clean. We were served quickly despite there being a queue and the staff were all extremely friendly, polite and efficient. The selection of food on offer is no different to other Subways, but, if you were looking for something different you wouldn't go there in the first place. Extremely pleased with our quick visit and will definitely return.
