Stravaigin in Glasgow City

As regulars in the old regime, we were dubious with the new owners, but a few months back we had an excellent lunch. We're back with the family for dinner, and were distinctly disappointed on the experience. The burger I had was absolutely tasteless and like a homogenous slab of mince. My son had the vegetable burger which again was a poor overcooked offering. My wife had a vegetable curry which was so overspiced it was inedible. The desserts also were not up to the mark. The best thing was the bread starter. The staff were friendly but hard to find when needed. I get totally annoyed when places such as this have service on the bill total. Service is discretionary and this nasty habit has no place in Scotland. Will be revisiting the Left Bank across the road next time!

Booked last minute ute for Sunday 21st. 7pm Was quiet when we went in. However, It really picked up. With a nice vibe. We had a lovely brazian waitress. Who was very attentive. We shared the pepper starter and squid . Both were delicious. Mains were Venison for me. Done perfectly with roasted veg. And a burger for my partner. Just all lovely. We'll be back. Xx

Cozy atmosphere. Attended a special cellar evening where meals are created by a theme. We enjoyed the delicious food and the meaning behind it and where the produce is from - locally sourced. The staff were all friendly and attentive. I have visited on other occasions before and after- never disappointed. Portion sizes are good and like the various drinks selection also. It's a perfect place for any time of the day or year with friends or family.

Unreal food, service and relaxed vibe - won't get better than this in Glasgow! Always consistent delicious food and fab cocktails and wine!

The menu is full of bold flavours. The squid with kohlrabi and smoked mash was excellent. The squid itself was perfectly cooked without a hint of chewiness. My partner enjoyed the sea trout while I had ox cheek. The rather unusual manchego brûlée was a little heavy by itself, but the grape chutney and a glass of chilled montbazillac set it off nicely. My only gripe is that we could have done with more of the chutney. Then I would have polished off the whole bowl of the creamy manchego. Service excellent. Good wine list. Our meal was a gift, paid for by a voucher from family members. A night at the Stravaigin is a great present for others or for oneself!

Great service, great food , never had a bad meal here yet.....Staff very friendly and welcoming and even the Chef came up to see if we enjoyed our meal.

Stravaigin is beautiful, the staff were all a delight. Very knowledgeable with my friends allergies. We where so well looked after, especially by Olivia and Esme, the bartenders were also fab but didnt get thier names! Food was first rate, especially the Lamb and Tofu!

Had a lovely meal here last night with my daughter, I had the rump steak which was cooked just to my liking and my daughter had the curry both meals were outstanding. Out waitress, I didn't get her name, was so nice and helpful we will definitely be back and I would highly recommend.

Ahh, I guess a good thing can only last so long. 20 odd yeas is pretty good. Where to start? One barman in particular, a grumpy git who barks at you when you walk in. Next, a weird new menu with over priced steamed veg smelling and tasting of Oban harbour. Odd, not nice to eat. Chips that are stale and too thick with fat. The beer in the fridges is now an afterthought and said barman makes you feel like its an imposition to reach down and get one. Such a shame

Great atmosphere, I went in the Christmas time and the restaurant was super cute all covered by lights. The food was ok and the staff was super friendly.

Arrived 4pm on a Friday and the bar was already full. We were able to sit at a table that had a later booking and were welcomed for a drink. The drinks menu is good although wine quality has decreased since the take over. The atmosphere is always lovely and service is usually good. Havent eaten here since the takeover but the food used to be good.

Today Saturday 6/1/24 lunch in the quiet "Cellar" restaurant was a shambles of wrong orders and poor Haggis & mashed veg. I ordered a half pint and a pint was delivered, corrected on bill. My Mussels starter did not come , a Haggis starter was...

We booked as a party of 4 onto the Hogmanay event for NYE 2023 but we left disappointed. We had been to Stravaigin before and enjoyed ourselves, and arrived initially optimistic to a very pretty, intimate venue in the Cellar and a piper on arrival. Throughout the evening the staff were extremely attentive and thorough, and responded faultlessly to allergens and dietary requirements. The food was passable - other guests enjoyed their meals, though the vegan menu was very salty and largely lukewarm. It didn’t feel worth the significant price, and every course came out a good deal after the usual menu. Mostly, the evening was impacted by a large and unruly party who seemed to all know each other, and dwarfed the size of all the other tables combined. Despite being around a small table together, we quickly couldn’t hear each other even if shouting. The large group continued to get louder and louder, eventually leading us to abandon even trying to talk. The combination of the loud group and an even louder (but very talented) guitarist eventually gave me a splitting, sober headache. I definitely appreciate the need for delicacy in this situation and the situation would’ve been equally uncomfortable had we been sat in silence. I would’ve appreciated the staff being more hands-on in dealing with the group, and perhaps security should be hired in coming years. When checking ours and others’ tables, it would’ve been impossible to not notice our discomfort, and I think they were waiting for a customer to request they step in. As the evening progressed, there was undressing from the main group, and a lengthy wait for the cubicle in the men’s bathroom, which explained some of their behaviour. Our lasting impression was a mismanaged, raucous and intolerable environment. We left early, forgoing our midnight dram. We’ve enjoyed Stravaigin before but I can’t say I’ll be back in a hurry.

Were made to wait about 20 mins for your table, which was cramped in the corner of the restaurant, with one staff member covering at least 8 tables. Not a good start and it went downhill from there. Staff generally treated you like they were...

10/10 experience. Great dishes that kept getting better. Very friendly staff and even the guests were extremely nice. We'll definitely be back.

After a brisk walk through Kelvin Park we arrived at Stravaigin, the Cellar. We were seated after my partner managed to smash a glass through careless control over her hand bag. We were presented with menus and I chose the Haggis Neaps and Tatties which came as three equal sized portions with sesame seeds. I followed this with steak, chips and pepper corn sauce. The waiter checked back on us a few times which was a nice touch. The desert was a small meringue with a sorbet and so apple shavings??? We had coffee, paid the bill and thanked the waiter. This is a nice place to eat in a busy local venue.

Great venue for a function. Had our Christmas office party in the cellar. Easily accommodated 35 with its own private bar and toilets. Bluetooth speaker allowed us to play our own music. The food they cater for began/vegetarian and meat dishes. The set menu was varied and had steak, turkey, fish and vegan options. The food was hot and delicious. The staff were friendly and welcoming. A great night was had by all and would recommend this for a private function.

Ah yes, I remember this one - lots of action inside, everyone crushing up to the bar, good bar staff were on it, girls were glammed up, barely any room to swing a cat but easy enough to walk through with hands full of drinks. Great fun :)

Had a fab meal today for Sunday lunch! Felt like royalty and the food was outstanding! The staff were so attentive especially Ilaeira and Morven, kitchen staff went the full hog and beef roast was just so tender, not sure how they achieve such excellence in taste and flavour but everything was cooked to perfection. Cocktails were also top notch especially the espresso martini! Could have had more if we had more time. Really enjoyed sitting by the cosy fireplace and was nice to be accompanied by a few waggy tails next to us. Really was ant least 5 stars all round, keep being authentic and original!

I came here with my partner for a celebratory meal after several big life accomplishments, wanting a meal to help round this all off. Stravagin definitely did not disappoint! Our server Morven was an absolute delight, attentive and approachable, making the experience so much more...

Been here many times and the undoubted star of the place is Marquis. Charismatic and with some of the best chat north of the Clyde. Food and atmosphere ok too!

This is the second time I have been here. The first time I didn't have the best experience downstairs in the restaurant and expressed my concerns to Olivia Wong the new manager. I was invited back and attended tonight with my husband. I honestly couldn't believe the difference in the place. We sat upstairs with the dog at a gorgeous table next to the open fire. The food was absolutely stunning and we couldn't fault any of it and the waitress serving us was so lovely. The place has a great vibe about it and Olivia has obviously made a fantastic impact on the place. 💯 recommended for anyone to go for a great time.

We ate early on Sunday evening pre-theatre, and the meal was a real success! The place was beautifully decorated with Xmas lighting and had a really wonderful atmosphere. The service was excellent. Our waitress was communicative and friendly. Then the food…absolutely delicious. Hit the spot...

Beautiful space with lovely log burning fire. Staff very friendly and helpful. Menu good for gluten free and vegetarian/vegan requirements. The gluten free bread is lush! Worth trying even if you aren't intolerant!

Excellent place. Even though I didn't know you had to make a reservation, they seated us at the bar area and served great food. Selection was limited because they had a "busy weekend" and was out of steak and some other assorted menu items. I had the haggis to start and pork belly as a main. Superb!

Food was nice, but the portion for the beef on the Sunday roast was tiny which would have been fine if the service wasn’t terrible. Nobody did a single check back, waited 35 mins between courses and i had to get up and find a staff member when our drinks were empty for 10mins as they were all standing talking to each other. Then when the bill came it took 30 mins to get a card machine and the bill was wrong. Felt like no one was trained and no one was in-charge

This restaurant was highly recommended, we came but didn't book a table, we were seated behind the bar and we understood because it was our mistake, but the waiters bypassed us and ignored us, they always left somewhere, we couldn't even call anyone . When it came time to eat, no one informed us that the food we ordered would be so spicy, the menu did not say so. The mussels were peppered with jalapeño, which was not mentioned on the menu, and the curry prawns were super spicy. When we reported this to the waiter, he said that we should have warned him and he would have brought us yogurt to reduce the burning sensation, this is very funny, we didn’t expect this, we expected everything, but not this response. The atmosphere was very good, but the evening was completely ruined.

Visited for the first time and will definitely return soon. The atmosphere and service was excellent. The food was amazing. Having the option of small plates allows you to try more dishes. The haggis, needs and tatties were great, as was the trout.

It is considered to be a cool venue. But, only if you believe you are cool and require affirmation. It is Not cool, in the least. V pleasant. Rather predictable in a post-modern manner. Superior in Glasgow terms. But, V unremarkable. It looks as if the interior was once spectacular. Now reduced to the interior for the cool and uneducated. Nevertheless, everyone should love it.

Music was very loud, difficult to have a conversation with aging relatives but they turned it down when we asked which was excellent. A problem with the kitchen meant my food arrived way before everyone else's so I had finished eating before the rest started! Enjoyed the night and the food anyway and they took something off the bill as an apology so can't say fairer than that.

I love this place. But. The foods gone downhill. The chips just aren't edible. My roast beef dinner had the smallest bit of beef ever and wasn't cheap. Both times the staff have been helpful (no charge for inedible chips and another bit of beef cause I asked nice .) But chips ain't hard to do guys and a roast dinner should be a joyful feast. Interestingly my hairdresser was at the next table, she complained about her haggis!! Up your game please! Taste your food.

Outstanding. Food was great, haggis, steak, mussels, pork belly - everything sooo tasty and cooked to perfection. Charming waitress who explained everything, all the people at Stravaigin made it a perfect team event after our trade show in Glasgow. Thank you, will come back.

Great place for food and drinks. Try the haggis - it's perfect. I recommend the dram sauce with it. The staff are extraordinary, atmosphere is cosy and unique. Went there a second time for haggis and Guinness the day after, because everything was on point. Glasgow has many great restaurants and pubs, and this must be one of the best :)

The quality of the food is amazing in this place. Certainly for the price of the different dishes. If you'd ever be in the west end of Glasgow and you'd love some modern Scottish cuisine, this would be the place to be!!!

Sunday beef roast was a feast that lacked for nothing in the taste stakes. Starting with haggis might very been too ambitious tho. Won't eat till Wednesday now. Atmosphere was perfect and staff were delightful- worth returning for in its own. Seriously recommended.

The food was incredible. Clearly the chef is top class. Why they aren’t a Michelin starred restaurant is beyond me. Sophie, our waitress was amazing. She gave spot on recommendations, was tons of fun to chat with, and made the entire experience very enjoyable. Looking forward to dining here again!

Not the place to go if you want to have any conversation. Good veggie options, one vegan option. A couple of small plates enough as portions fair and main plates big. Food and sevice good, butI found atmosphere too loud and overwhelming. Toilets virtually hidden.

This was a well rounded meal for five including vegetarians, pescetarians and "carnivores". Everyone was pleasantly surprised by flavours and textures. The wine list is great with a good range of quality/price for both whites and reds. The desserts were to scream for more. Had the Bean panacotta and the strawberry sorbet ... truly good! Decent espresso too. Make no mistake the kitchen is not amateur! Paid 170 for 5 including a bottle of wine. Very happy indeed!

Stravaigin was absolutely lovely ! We popped in for dinner & it was a sooo good! We had a selection of the small plates & everything tasted great! We enjoyed a bottle of wine & some dessert wine at the end & once again, couldn't fault anything. The place itself adds to how nice it is - it's very homely & we received get service throughout (unfortunately cannot remember the name of the guy who served us)! If you are this area, do not miss this place :).

Went there while visiting Glasgow. Done the West Highland Way, but still wanted to eat some Haggis before leaving Scotland. Stravaigin was recommended to me, by the owner of the airbnb to eat good traditional Scottish food. She was right, the haggis there was by far the best I ate during my 10 day stay (West Highland Way), and even one of the best things I had so far! Nice people aswell, and a nice place to visit!

Had a hen night here last night. Fantastic night. Food was delicious, served quickly for 20+ guests. Staff all over the place were friendly and cheerful. Sophie however who was with us most of the night was just brilliant. Couldn't do more for you and a smile on her face. Well done all of you. Thanks for a great night.

Stravaigin is a Glasgow West End legend. A really relaxed, quirky atmosphere. Great for just some drinks. Good range of beers. Excellent wines by the glass. Even better by the bottle. And can they do cocktails! Stravaigin is old Scots for wandering with a view to experiencing. The menu reflects this. "Think global, eat local" as it proclaims is just that. Thoughtful dishes borrowing from international kitchens far and wide. Don't miss the curry of the day! It opened in 1994. I've been going regularly ever since.

Beautiful place with delicious food. We tried two small dishes, the haggis and muscles in coconut jalapeños and cilantro sauce, both extremely tasty. Highly recommend.

Nice food, relaxed. Slight feeling of attitude when we wanted to change table. Whilst I appreciate it puts a spanner in the works, if it's doable then there shouldn't be an issue. Otherwise, great service and nice food.

Everything about our dinner here was perfect. The atmosphere is welcoming and the space is a really neat, rustic/eclectic vibe that feels chic and also totally down to earth. We loved seeing the dogs dining alongside their humans in the bar area! Our server Max was friendly and had great recommendations. Our drinks were super tasty, and every single thing we ordered food wise was just incredible. The veggie haggis with whiskey cream sauce was superb and the leeks confit with whipped tofu were totally unexpected and divine. The panna cotta was the perfect way to finish the meal. Could not recommend this place more, if we were locals we would eat here all the time!

Good imaginative and tasty dishes, with choices of snacks,small plates and large plates. Great atmosphere and really friendly staff despite it being busy. Would definitely recommend and just don't know why it's taken us so long to try it.

Nooooo..... I've been going to Stravaigan's for years and make the pilgrimage everytime I'm back in Glasgow from NZ. The place looks the same, the staff are still pleasant but the basement restaurant being half empty on a Friday night should have given a hint of the changes. The menu is similar but not....many dishes now sound over fussy with hardly any fish/seafood options. I had the haggis, for old time's sake and it has changed. I didn't like the flavour of the haggis or the texture of the potato. This used to be one of my top 3 restaurants worldwide but I left on Friday feeling a bit sad at the loss of an old friend & hope it's only a temporary blip.
