Stag and Thistle in Glasgow City

Visited today for brunch. Absolutely great waitress who was friendly, and attentive, and made stopping in as a solo customer a comfortable experience. I had the vegan breakfast which was great.

Was in the Southside of Glasgow for a football match at Hampden, and friends were arriving later, so went for a pre-match meal, and the Stag & Thistle is somewhere I have wanted to try out for a while. Every time I pass by it always seems to be busy, and after a visit, I can see why. For a Sunday afternoon, and with Kick Off for the game still 5 hours away, it was very busy (but not mobbed) and got a table no problem. Good extensive menu and a great drinks selection. Ordered the Stag & Thistle Burger, and washed it down with a few beers. Really good food and can highly recommend. I will almost certainly be back again in future.

Have now dropped in to this place a few times when visiting the area and honestly cannot recommend highly enough. Great atmosphere, great beer garden (weather permitting), very helpful and friendly staff, and the food is quality pub-grub. Also a great selection of beers on tap and in the fridge - what more do you need?

Really lovely staff. Drinks far too expensive. Realise things have gone up but still just too far for me. Mahou - £6.30 Disco Forklift (a local glasgow beer) - £6.90! Sorry but this isn't London and that's too far. Will avoid I'm afraid based on price.

Late lunch on a busy Saturday afternoon, slow service, we were seated in restaurant for 15 mins and still no drinks order taken, had to call staff over to get drinks, then took another 15 mins before drinks came thats when they took our food order, we had the table for two and a half hours which is how long you need to get your food . Food was nice enough, staff okay but would not rush back

Had lunch here today for my pal's birthday after checking menu online. Spoiled for choice, I went for the morrocan tagine. OMG, it was amazing! The beef was so tender and the spices were perfect if you like it slightly hot. My pal had cajun macaroni which she also loved. The portions were plentiful. Also, they had a coffee and cake deal, geezo, the slice of lemon cake would have served 3 people! A big shout out to our server Michael, you are a credit to the business as you ensured that we were comfortable throughout our lunch. It was slightly chilly in the bar but we were provided with hot water bottles by the owner (Marty😜) who was on site, and blankets were also offered. Having been in the stag and thistle when it used to be mulberry Street, I can see a lot of money has been spent on making the place bigger and very contemporary and they now have a fabulous outside space. Very good gastro pub. Nice selection of beers and a pub menu with twists. Plays homage to the haggis and fish and chips are yummy. We had haggis nachos which went down a treat with Katsu chicken, fish and chips and a burger. Service was good.

Nice bar inside and out but service is slow. We had some nibbles and they were nice, but no cutlery, plates with marks on them … not ideal. Fine but won’t rush back.

Overzealous, pretentious staff (its like the BBJ’s Diner scene from The Catherine Tait Show). We booked a table for 3 people (Friday night) for 7pm and when we sat down was told they needed the table back for 8.15pm, we weren’t told this when we booked weeks before. They’re not the quickest service so don’t know how they thought that was going to work! I’m a frequent customer and lately it’s been one drama after another in there. From being ripped off by being given ‘premium’ gin/vodka without actually asking for it and being charged a fortune to having to ‘sit down’ before you can order a drink. Glad there are plenty of other decent, straightforward places to go in the area. Shame!

We popped in for lunch as we'd seen this place and liked the look of it. Staff were friendly and explained the food and drink menus. Good selection for food which was very tasty. Drinks were good and decently priced. Mixed clientelle and relaxed atmosphere. Worth a visit.

Lovely venue but very poor food and poor service. Had to wait over 40 mins for food to arrive. When it did arrive it was the wrong order so had to wait a further 30 mins for my dish. Wasn’t worth the wait and tasted extremely bland and inedible. I complained at the time and although staff were apologetic, no actions were taken to resolve the issue. Not worth the visit in my opinion.
