comment_iconOpinions

Took friends from Berlin, Prague and Leipzig to what is probably the best remaining reasonable boozer in Woodlands. Downstairs you will likely find old skool west end types who wrote several episodes of Tenko and Z cars before you were born. Upstairs you will find live music and a much younger LGBTQ friendly crowd. Great to see things like Augustiner on sale. Friends were impressed and still mention the place!

No real ales at 2 pm on a Saturday. ALL ale lines being cleaned. Get a grip. This happens on a Monday morning, or one at a time. Gave it a chance after finding it overpriced a few years ago. Last chance, chaps. Won't be back!

I've been going here for years and my father before me. I went in at the weekend for the first time in a while and was presented with a pint that cost over ÂŁ6!! My brother then bought a bottled beer that was over ÂŁ5! I live and work in London and still haven't had to pay that much for a pint until now.

Have been to this pub many times over the years and for the first time found the female member of bar staff who served us 'a bit nippy' when she took our order. It seemed to be a bother to her that we couldn't all decide what we wanted immediately on entering the pub. Ok - so yes its good to see it hasn't changed much as its just like old times - but that includes the toilets which are just like old(en) times. Not pleasant. Also prices are stupidly high for this pub. So - overall - disappointed. What used to be a great wee pub- now just isn't.

We had soup and panini for lunch and it came with a lovely tomato salad. It was delicious! Nice coffee and lots of nice cakes. It was a sunny day so we could ait outside. It's a bit cramped on the sidewalk and the tables are leaning a little. Grading it to 3 and not 4 because you can't pay by card under 10 pounds. Friendly staff tho.

If you’re Glaswegian, and remember intelligent working men’s pubs, and don’t do fancy crap, and are not looking for the cheapest bevvy ( it’s at your supermarket), this may be your salvation. It’s as it was in the 60s ( can’t tell you about earlier, but 50s has to be safe). The beer line up is fab, as is the whisky gantry. Some snowflakes say they find the dunnies stinky: don’t know what you do in there Sunshine, but they were fine for me. And my Sheila. Who’s class. New proprietor, who is doing the sort of civic thing the berks in George Square never have, never will. If you’re up to it, join in and learn something.

Pub which has been here for decades without much change inside or out. Quite a young crowd in (mostly students you would surmise) which shows they are doing something right in attracting new customers over and over again. Although given the area it would be difficult not to. Good selection of draught beers and cider with friendly service.

Dropped in here for a couple of beers with the wife prior to visiting the Comedy Club. This is your typical old man's pub but unfortunately the prices are a little high and we did hear a group complaining to the bar staff...The pub itself looks like it hasn't been touched by a paint brush since Adam was a boy but to be fair, this is what give this place it's character...In all, worth dropping in for a quick beer...

I like this place , although not a cheap pint- it tends to veer towards the self - centred service style but just gets away with it due to enough locals supporting it! Used to do interesting nibbles but now doesn't & weirdly has a no dogs sticker ! This seems weird in west end , where there's a big dog friendly vibe going on , especially in a pub with no food ! Come on , be a cool old style Glasgow pub ( God knows they are needed & appreciated by tourists & locals alike !) and let the local pooches in !!

This place is now reminiscent of the general G1 "pretend a venue is something it's not to desperately try and please a new audience" deception that's seen at The Book Club and Flat 0/1 - the new owners clearly do not understand why people loved this pub in the first place, and think they've gained some cultural capital by landing a novel venue. Their transparent and self serving motives, to capitalise on the reputation and charm of this once legendary pub, is an agenda hardly hidden with dull lighting, passe music and staff lacking in lustre. Anyone in a search of authenticity need not look here. Don't be fooled by the exterior - there's nothing but blatant capitalist cynicism lurking inside. RIP The Doublet.

I visited this pub for the first time since the new owners took over at 4pm on a Friday. The first thing that I noticed was how dark the bar was. Why do pub owners think that dark lighting creates an atmosphere, the second was the introduction of music. It would appear again that pub owners think that everyone wants to listen to music. I have news for them this is not the type of bar that requires low lighting or music. Only the staff appear to have been interested in it. Also some of the memorabilia on the walls/bar has been removed again taking away some of the character. I did however notice that the high prices have remained. No wonder it is empty at 4 on a Friday, the prices have always been a problem in this pub.But there is worse, they are allowing electronic cigarettes to be smoked by selfish customers inside and despite all the no harm nonsense spouted by the staff there is a definite smell and problem. Another Glasgow pub being ruined and if it continues best avoided.

An Old Glasgow Pub which has changed hands ( New Owners) but does not have a great atmosphere though it can appear to be busier in the evenings.Still in need of redecoration and refurbishment the general ambience is a bit garish. Some of the familiar ales are to be found and some popular local brands have been removed with new ones now on offer.Bottled brands have also become a bit more varied with the more popular ones remaining for sale. The food on offer is very restricted with toasted sandwiches andpies being available. So if you only come here for a quick pint of beer call in or just pass by as the background music can be a bit naff.

I didn't recognise the (very pleasant) bar maid in The Doublet, but perhaps that was because the last time I visited this city pub was fifty years ago! My first impression, curiously, was that the place is down to earth but absolutely immaculate. It was a quiet time of the day, they had no music, no telly but I'd no complaints on either count because sometimes it's nice to enjoy a pint and read "The Herald". Very handy for Glasgow Uni, so next time I'll rake out some old friends and perhaps have more than one pint and soak up the student atmosphere in the evening!

Good atmosphere almost always a decent mixed crowd i.e. student middle aged folk, in the place on weekends.Place looks unchanged form when it opened in the 1960's and to me it gives it a lot of charm and a authentic honest unpretentious, feel to the place. Good choice of malts and other drinks.Prices are very reasonable for the area. The upstairs part of the Doublet feels like a front room of a house (This opens up on weekends ).Has a jukebox that has pretty much anything you can think of.Staff are a good lot as well.Food is good for a light or a quick munch if you are on the move, its at a decent price as wellQuiz is a good laugh. My only negative about the place is lack of a decent smoking area (to be honest it is nit picking as a lot of pubs in city's got caught out this way when the Smoking ban came in).
