Absolutely disgusted with what i just witnessed here, to the extent I cancelled my order and walked out. The place was almost empty..only 3 other ppl in when a 'senior' lady came in, showed them a card and asked to use the toilet...(turns out it was a medical card) they wouldn't let her unless she bought something. She didnt have cash on her and they advised her to go across the road to the bank. I intervened and then the owner came out...the situation was explained to her and again the lady showed her medical card...The owner kept repeating "We're not public toilets we pay our water bills, we dont pay them for just anyone to use, only our customers etc..." in quite a loud and abrupt manner....what an absolute friggin disgrace. What woman can watch another woman, and a senior at that, bursting for the toilet and not allowing her to use it. I left with the woman who told me more details about her condition and how embarrassed she felt, not to mention still needing to find a loo. Worst customer service I've ever known. What's the big deal? And the place was near empty....aagh I live nearby and I will never go back. I've also just read the previous review where a customer walked out...good for them...does this owner have absolutely zero compassion or empathy?

A very disappointing experience. My wife has coeliac disease and they did not have any gluten free cakes. She asked if she could buy one from a nearby bakery to have with her coffee and was firmly told no. We cancelled my order and left. The cafe had about 4 customers in it. We found a far more welcoming cafe close by which was quite busy and catered for coeliac sufferers.

1st visit back to this cafe since Covid. It was a fiasco. My husband ordered a cheese & pickle sandwich and I ordered a chicken brie and cranberry toastie along with 2 teas. Our teas were brought to the table and then we sat for 30 minutes before our food arrived. The sandwich was cheese and baked beans (not on the menu) and the toastie was chicken and baked beans so we sent them back. After another 3 people came to check what our order should have been we eventually got a cheese and pickle sandwich and a chicken toastie (no brie or cranberry) which was burnt and dry. Nobody asked if our teas were OK after our long wait and they were stone cold. We were not happy. The couple at the next table waited ages for soup and had heard the carry on with our order. When their soup arrived it was also cold so they walked out as they didn't have time to wait. The place is a total shambles. Someone in authority really needs to be there on a Sunday as we had the same experience the last time. If you're only in for a coffee and cake fine but meals are a different story. Sorry but we used to enjoy this place.

Visited this morning with my son for tea and rolls. Upon entry you're greeted by the restaurant cat wandering around the tearoom (nothing against cats but not for me!) Waitress then got our drinks wrong and served me with a (very small) pot of lukewarm tea with no milk. She told me she'd go and get the milk, a good 5 minutes passed and I then see the waitress coming back from the Scotmid across the street with 3 cartons of milk! We then waited at least another 20 minutes for 2 bacon rolls and a roll on square sausage. Wouldn't mind if the place was rammed but there was only about 6 other people there at most. Just a really disorganised feeling about the place and my son and I both said we'd never go back. PS used the gents but couldn't find a light in the pitch black (think the switch was actually out in the main restaurant and not in the toilet?) Take my advice, steer well clear.

We had two bowels of soup here. Price includes bread however does not include a roll. That is 75pence extra and you don’t get the bread. Also a black coffee is dearer than a flat white. Never heard of that anywhere. So needless to say this place sells ordinary food at a dear price. Better places in Strathaven to eat food. Won’t be back.

We ordered afternoon tea for 4. This is the first time that we have been here and we were certainly not disappointed. The tearoom is deceptively large and the tables were well spaced out and there was a very large sanitizer dispenser at the door. We were asked straight away to use the track and trace app, which we duly did. We were seated at the window in a lovely big table, which was cleaned again before we ate anything. The food was beautiful and very well presented. It was obvious that everything had just been freshly made. I had phoned to book in advance (wasn't sure if we could turn up) and was advised that, unfortunately, there were no meringues but asking if they could substitute this for a strawberry tart - no problem. On arrival, we were advised that the chef had made meringues specially for us coming in. They were absolutely delicious - so much so one of the ladies had to take hers home to eat, as she had no room left. The staff were friendly and attentive at all times and nothing was a bother. I would happily recommend this tea room to anyone and this will certainly not be our last visit.

Just visited for a coffee and ended up with a group of 5 people crushed next to our table. Felt really uncomfortable so had to finish and leave. Too many tables, too close together with no dividers, it’s operating as if there is no pandemic.

Sunday 11th October, this was absolutely awful with no regard for staff or clients in this pandemic. No social distancing tables not sanitised after use , No obvious sanitiser on entry, tables so close together and customers almost on top of each other,. This is against all government guidelines but again is this all about money😡😡😡

There is a good display of cakes to entice you at the counter :-) we had soup and pancakes with maple syrup. Reasonably priced and a surprising amount of choice from sandwiches , soups to fries etc.

Been here a few times and it’s normally decent.Went this morning to be served the most vile breakfast I’ve ever had. I complained but nobody was that interested. Charged £14.50 for the privilege. There appeared to be nobody in charge with about 6 teenage waitresses appearing to be more engaged in their own chit chat than anything else.I will never be back and I would certainly go out of my way to make sure that nobody else I know would go there either.

What's happened to the Tea Room? This was the first visit in 3 years and was looking forward to a coffee and scone, before catching the bus to Hamilton. The coffee was only ok, the scone looked as if someone had sat on it, or there had been no rising agent included in the baking. Butter was rock hard, tearing the scone as I was trying to spread it. The jam was in a small pot for presentation, but it was the CHEAPEST jam it has ever been my misfortune to taste. This, at one time was my go-to lunchtime eaterie in Strathaven, but they will really have to up their game to compete in Strathaven now.

Used to love coming here when I was small and always remembered the massive nutty meringues. Thought we'd nip in for a cooked breakfast and cake. Only table available was next to the door which was cold when people came in and out. We ordered a Breakfast and a Big Breakfast - not much between them - both big portions and was nice but not outstanding. Sausage was tasteless and potato scone was very thin. It was however very filling so I couldn't manage one of their delicious looking homemade cakes - lots to choose from and the nutty meringues were still there and still as big as I remember!! My husband had a bakewell tart which he said was dry.

Visited a Saturday afternoon around 2pm, was 2 or 3 tables occupied so not too busy. It was 90 minutes between us arriving and being served our food, after having changed our order 30 minutes after being served due to being told some items weren't available. The food, in fairness, was lovely. Really tasty and well presented, although not great value for money in some cases. We had to rush our food pretty quickly, although did enjoy it. The staff weren't overly friendly either, which is a shame as it is lovely inside and the food is good. Will most likely give it a miss next time as there are so many lovely places to eat in Strathaven.

The Cafe' is spotless and that included the rest room. I enjoyed every morsel and a very rare quiet moment, one more fave to the list.

Had the misfortune to visit this place on Sunday morning for a quick bite before we headed off elsewhere!! The place was almost empty of customers with only 2 other tables occupied. There were at least 3 waitresses behind the counter who seemed more interested in discussing what they had been up to the previous evening than serving customers!! Eventually after waiting about 10 minutes our order got taken!! 10 minutes in the grand scheme of things isn't long however when the place isn't busy & the staff are discussing their social life it's simply not acceptable!! Few minutes later we were served with look warm coffee then had to wait approximately a further 20 minutes to half hour for our hot rolls to come which came out at different times!! Quality of food & service was extremely poor!! I don't usually visit these premises due to there being far better cafes near by & I certainly won't be back!!!

My husband and I popped into this cafe on a Sunday afternoon and at that point we were the only table in. It took about 15 minutes before anyone came up to serve us. I ordered drinks, a hot scone and my husband ordered key lime pie. Our cakes came at a different time which meant when he was finishing his cake as I was just starting. They also forgot to bring my tea...by the time my tea came my scone was cold. If it was busy then I would understand but it was so quiet. Not a great customer experience and I will not be back.

So disappointed. Went in for tea and a cake and the selection on display looked good, unfortunately the taste was not... the apple pie was mush encased in a poor excuse for pastry and tasted of nothing, the empire biscuit was a powdered mess with rock hard icing. As we were sat finishing our drinks, the metal shutters were closed on the windows leaving us with the realisation that we needed to leave as they were clearly closing for the day. Complained about the apple pie but this fell on astounded ears as it was ‘fresh that morning’ and they’d ‘been serving it all day’. Return trip not necessary

This is a lovely wee coffee shop (& Gift shop) right in the Centre or Strathaven. We visited here after a day at the local park for a bit of lunch. Been before and it’s usually mobbed but today was quiet enough to get a table straight away. The waitress was over within 5 min and room took or order, she was very friendly and attentive and brought a high chair over for the baby. I have been a regular at this coffee shop for over 30 years. Often go for breakfast rolls which are usually delicious. I visited Friday 2nd September 2016 for a lunch. The cakes and bakes in here still beat all others in the area and the prices are fair. Breakfasts are excellent and main meals solidly hearty without pretension. Soup and sandwich deal at £5.20 is excellent value, the lentil soup smoky and piping hot, and sandwiches ranging from old favourites to the more adventurous, for example chicken and avocado. Lite bites are available, and the afternoon tea divine: £7.50 pp for giant meringue, scone with jam and cream, tray bake, round of sandwiches of your choice and, of course, a cup of tea. Staff are friendly and attentive. Five stars from me for delivering a pleasant eating experience that you don't mind paying for. I like the retro, unfussy environment others here have complained about since the focus in obviously on the food!

Food was acceptable but the hygiene habits of serving staff was questionable. The young waitress, who was obviously a school girl as after serving us she sat down and done her home work, served my tea by holding the rim of the cup then held my teaspoon with her thumb on the business end to steady it. I ordered cake to take away and the counter staff person did not wash her hands before lifting it with her fingers leaving a thumb print. Just before this she was handling money.

The tearoom until recently was my favoured place for a coffee or a treat to myself for a cheap lunch out. The food is good and hearty, the servings are usually generous there not a lot not to like. it is definitely the number two place for tea and coffee in Strathaven though there is very little in it between them and my current favourite The Tudor.

My fish from the takeaway was perfectly cooked, with a soft almost creamy and flaky texture in a lovely batter. The fritters were enjoyable too. The prices were as good value as you get in most chippies and more so for the high quality. The staff were friendly and pleasant. Though I hadn't used the restaurant I had a look in and it was tiny but immaculate and very cozy. Looks great for a family occasion where you could easily have the place to yourself with a smiling, polite waitress on hand. 😎👍
