Strand Tandoori in City of London, Westminster

Très bruyant. Un accueil pas tres encourageant (ayant vu la note, nous sommes restés). Milieu de repas, la table voisine a un pb pour payer, ils n’acceptent plus la carte bleue (physique ou sans contact) leur terminal est « tombé » en panne. Nos voisins ont dû faire un virement avec leur banque en ligne (heureusement que la banque a accepté l’ajout immédiat de bénéficiaire, car ils n’avaient pas de carte bleue). Nous avons dû aller, escorté d’un serveur, chercher de l’argent à un distributeur. Le serveur n’était vraiment pas très agréable. De tout cela, je ne me souviens plus de ce que j’ai mangé ou si c’était bon.

Please avoid this place. It's a scam - the intimidating manager speaks in his native language with staff and making sarcastic remarks about customers. The food was bland, we ordered lamb breyani which was covered in ghee fat, bland dry chicken tikka, and korma sauce on the side which ended up being pasanda sauce. When it was time to settle the bill, conveniently their machines weren't working and we were ordered to make a trip to the cash machine. Please do not visit this place The reviews on their website very different to those on trustpilot.

Absolutamente increíble comida, que fue eclipsado por el anfitrión sentado en una de las mesas comiendo su propia comida, escuchamos cada bocado ser masticado y salivado y luego soltó el eructo más grande que era realmente bastante desagradable, esta tal vez una forma tradicional de comer, pero no en un restaurante por favor. Al pedir la factura, entonces y solo entonces nos dijeron que era solo en efectivo, no hay pagos con tarjeta y como Internet no funciona allí, fue un paseo por la cadena de encontrar un punto de efectivo, no muy bien a pesar de la comida es increíble. Si vas a tomar dinero en efectivo y con suerte el anfitrión no va a comer al mismo tiempo que usted!

Presumiré esto diciendo que la comida era increíble, realmente disfrutamos, era muy fresca y sabrosa, uno de los indios más agradables que hemos tenido en mucho tiempo. Sin embargo, eso fue lo único positivo y por qué he dejado 3 estrellas. El servicio fue terrible y arruinó nuestra noche como un gran grupo de 8 celebrando un cumpleaños. Los camareros eran groseros y desdeñosos cuando intentamos pedir bebidas, nuestra mesa no estaba preparada, no teníamos cubiertos ni servilletas para nuestro entrante. Tuve que pedir servilletas tres veces. Finalmente pedimos nuestra comida y eso mejoró la noche. Pero el final de la comida dejó un sabor agrio como había enviado previamente por correo electrónico para comprobar que podíamos pagar con tarjeta, ya que había leído un montón de comentarios diciendo que se hicieron pagar en efectivo. Después de haber confirmado que podíamos pagar con tarjeta seguí con nuestra reserva, de lo contrario me habría ido a otro lugar. Pero cuando llegamos a pagar la máquina de tarjetas estaba convenientemente “no funciona”. Se nos pidió que fuéramos a sacar dinero en efectivo para una factura grande - esto no es aceptable. La mesa de al lado comenzó porque solo tenían teléfonos y no podían sacar efectivo. Convenientemente, el gerente apareció con una máquina de tarjetas diferente y se nos permitió pagar con tarjeta. Claramente no querían pagar las comisiones de sus máquinas de tarjetas y pensaron que arruinar nuestra noche valía la pena. Desafortunadamente, toda esta experiencia fue muy estresante para nuestro grupo familiar y no volveremos a pesar de la comida encantadora.

We had a great Sunday in London and after a few drinks really fancied a good Indian. Unfortunately this was just an average experience. London has lots of new modern Indian options, we opted for old school and although everything was okay… okay is not good. The lamb chops for a starter however were not ok, they were atrocious 2 for £7.50, one of them wasn’t even a chop, bone and gristle. I did tell them but it went straight over the head. Everything else, as mentioned, was just ok.

For once the guy followed my instructions and delivered my meal perfectly, (unlike last time when it took over an hour for my food to arrive, so it was cold and unappetising! I was sorry I didn’t tip the last courier and just hope that in future they follow the route laid out on the map. The food was very tasty and the chicken good quality, so I’ll definitely order again!

Best indian restaurant in London

Great atmosphere. Small but never crowded so far. Way too easy to miss in a sea of restaurants, but if you’re in the area and want some great variety Indian food, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

Had a meal here tonight food was ok but the staff were ignorant with us. Wanted cash but not stated on the door said we want to pay card but was not happy. Don’t bother visiting they obviously don’t like us we come from the curry capital of the north and they are amazing this place was horrendous hospitality

No reservamos una mesa, pero nos dijeron que entrara, pero luego nos sentimos apresurados a comer y preguntando si habíamos terminado cuando claramente solo comimos a la mitad. Creo que quizás el personal no hablaba bien inglés y el espacio es pequeño, así que me dijeron que me moviera en un momento mientras intentaba comer. El servicio necesita mejorar. Cara amigable hace una gran diferencia. Realmente no puedo golpear la comida, realmente disfrutamos esa parte.

Mr. May or Uncle May was the best. He came over on a mission and knew exactly what we wanted and how we should order it. He even made us eat our veggies which were great and seasoned perfectly. Also he prevented us from over ordering and telling us the portions that were best for our party of four. He also made us laugh. Actually the BEST Indian food we’ve had in the UK and we’ve been here 3 years so we have had a lot! Perfect Spice!

Lovely accommodating staff (we got served by Mr May, a very kind individual), happy to recommend dishes and are approachable. The food is so delicious!! Really good portion sizes, the flavours are perfect and the price is good value for money! My partner and I come to London a lot, so I feel we will definitely be back!

What can I see Stand Tandoori is the best curry I have had. The chicken tikka masala just melted in your mouth, the chicken chat again the chicken and taste just melted in your mouth, the mint sauce, Lime pickle and mango chutney again was the best I have had. Mr May our host was very kind and made us feel at home. I am so glad I took my gf away on her birthday for her birthday meal.

I go to London yearly and this is the best Indian restaurant I’ve tried. Also open late and good for after theatre.

5Jan25 Google asked "Has it changed?" Thank goodness NO, Still a good old curry house. Thank you. UPDATE since last post. The place is still brilliant. 5 of us tonight. Beer great and lovely food. Service charming. It's been 2 COVID years but it was like it was yesterday. Brill service, great food & the beer flowed. Lovely.

Tables are crammed in to seat as many as possible so you can't really get passed diners without disturbing them. We had a reservation, however, when we arrived they weren't interested in that they just got us regardless so the reservation was irrelevant. So had there been no tables available i suspect we would've had to wait. There seemed to be a lot of arguments between the staff which felt uncomfortable and everything was all a bit rushed. We actually felt that we were a hindrance. We did receive the wrong order so then expected us to have our starters and mains at the same time( this was rectified in the end) The food itself was good to be fair, I had Chicken Jalfrezi and my partner had Chicken Balti. Overall I wouldn't recommend this place mainly because of the atmosphere and struggling to get passed other diners

The service was really bad. We ordered chicken biryani but were served lamb biryani. The food was not good. We had a 25% discount from Tastecard but they refused to accept it.

Go as soon as it opens at 12 o'clock. It took almost 30 minutes for the food to come out. Quantity is the same as in the photo. Additional charge for 2 servings. Drinks are required to be purchased 2 servings, 2 drinks, 2 meals weighs about 42 pounds. But only cash payment Why did you give it 5 points anyway? The owner only accepts cash. They gave me 2 pounds off because I didn't have any change. The taste was honestly 5 points. It was delicious, but spicy.

It took more than 40 minutes for the food to come out. Menus that were said to be coming soon but never came out... Because of the musical, I ordered food 2 hours in advance and tried to eat leisurely... I like Indian food, so I've eaten it in many countries and the taste is just average. Suddenly, the credit card machine broke down and told us, as travelers, to withdraw money from a nearby machine... I only choose places that accept card payments... embarrassment… In the end, I paid for this and that and went to see the musical just 10 minutes ago. I liked their laid-back attitude, but not for me.

Me and my partner was in London for new years Eve, on New Year’s Day while out exploring we came across this place, and oh my it was absolutely beautiful, I love a nice spicy madras and this was one of my best so far. Very helpful, Fanatic food, great portions and lovely staff. Especially the manager Mr may who even gave us a free can of coke each to walk back to our hotel with. This place does not accommodate large parties well. We were a party of seven and I felt squished. The food was good for the prices. Highly recommend the masala and naan. However, they tried telling us to pay in cash and that their credit card machine didn’t work. In the end, after a little insistence from a member of our party, they took out the credit card/tap machine and we were able to pay.

Possibly the best Indian restaurant in London’s West End. A very small establishment so it is advisable to make reservations and be prepared to dine near other tables. One change from our visit two years ago - the only method of payment is cash. Otherwise a delicious and pleasant dinner. And surprisingly, the proximity of fellow patrons (perhaps because it was Christmas) made the experience even more joyful.

It’s cheap (we had 3 ppl eat for 40£), but the food is very average and the place is cramped and small. The waiters are very friendly, kind and attentive.

On 25th evening most restaurants are closed. Strand Tandoori was one of the few open. They had 2 rooms, one on the Mai’s floor that was crowded and one upstairs with less people. They didn’t register well open table booking but they managed to give us the table. Service was good. The guys did their best to accommodate us and were very nice. The food was average.

Photos published by OpenTable are not real, the place is not that tidy and nice looking. Food is normal and in exchange of that, you get bad service and long wait. Price can be low considering the location but still expensive for the experience you get.

Been using the Strand Tandoori for many years, the food has always been very good but, the service can be questionable. We booked a table for three at 5 o'clock. Turned up about 15 mins early, told them we had booked but got put in the corner on an unmade up table as all the other tables were booked - the restaurant was at this time empty! Got our poppadoms but had to ask for plates. As we started our main course we were informed that the card machine was not working (had seen this on other reviews - have Visa)Mastercard cut them off?). We had no cash but they agreed we could do a bank transfer which I did and showed the waiter confirmation. As we left the waiter came outside to say the payment had not gone through. Had to go back inside and show the confirmation again! Mens toilets are downstairs, smelt of urine and the ceiling looks to be falling in - its been like this for years. So, despite the food being good, never again. Please note 10 % service charge is automatically added to the bill.

Nice biryanis and sag curry. Vegetables curry was tasty but veg seemed like it came out of a can. Decent though but only took cash.

Brilliant place, yes not glamourous from the looks and very tiny. If you manage to get over this they serve brilliant authentic indian food at very good prices. Naan bread is a dream. I'm also a regular customer on london visits for over 25 years really happy they are still there keep going! Londons best kept secret!

I spoke to the restaurant who said the6 put the Daal Tarka in the bag but it was missing when it was delivered. Someone needs to speak to the driver for this delivery, not happy

Worst experience ever! Booked a table for a big group 2 weeks beforehand, but when wer arrived they didn’t have enough seats. When we explained the situation, we were just yelled at and told to „sit down“. A part of our group had to leave and eat somewhere else.

The waiters were rude, they threw a tissue in my face instead of putting it politely on the table, kept talking to each other when I ordered. Very unprofessional. Food tastes bad.

We came here on a Friday night with a booking for 15. On entering people were being encouraged to leave to make room four our table which was unfair on them particularly as the whole of upstairs was empty as far as I could tell. The service was slow and strange we all had to order is sequence of the courses we had. The white wine was not cold. The toilets for men are down a perilous flight of stairs and there was no easy access toilets and they lacked cleanliness. When food was being served it felt like it was being thrown on the table. All that though was nearly saved by the quality, quantity and presentation of the food. I had the duck tikka to start with, which. Was excellent I was very jealous of one of my friends prawn puri which looked superb. The spicy dip with the poppadoms could have been a dish in its own right. For my main course I had a prawn rezala and I cannot recommend it enough, it had spice, sweetness and when accompanied by the sag aloo a real balance in the mouth. Finally the garlic naans are so fresh and fragrant. Go for the food if you can stomach all the other bits that go with it.

Sorry to disappoint everyone but it’s not Indian restaurant neither it serves Indian food. Was definitely very disappointed by the food. It’s a Bangladeshi restaurant but even for Bengali food it disappointed me on a different level. Would rather wait in the queue of Dhishoom for half n hour but will never try this for sure.
