We came in here for an evening meal having liked the look of the menu outside. The place was spacious and airy on a warm evening. Staff were welcoming and helpful and our food was beautifully cooked and presented. It was great that you could get many of the choices as either a small plate or a main course. I had the roast cauliflower which was perfectly cooked and spiced. with a tasty sauce, a crunchy topping and a finish of pomegranate seeds. My partner had pollock, again perfectly cooked with cannelini beans and artichokes. The house wine was good and we even bought a bottle of wine to take home with us from the enormous selection on display, helpfully grouped by country.

Called in for lunch and managed to get a table for 2. Although they weren’t too busy, lunch took a while to arrive and was presented nicely. However my steak was overcooked and a bit fatty, and at £20 seemed pricey. My girlfriend had kedgeree which was tasty but portion was on the small size. The staff were friendly but at £55 including a service charge, it will be some time til we return!

Great place if you can secure one of the upstairs tables looking down on Frome’s main drag. Well-spaced tables and a good place for conversation. Unfortunately they’d run out of kedgeree, which we wanted. We settled for a burger and the cauliflower, which weren’t bad, and the hummus flatbread, which was less popular. With a house leaf salad, lager and an elderflower cordial, the bill came to £92.40 for four (including a 10% service charge).

We followed our noses to Eight Stony Street - the wood-fired pizza oven makes itself subtly known as you walk up Stony Street itself. It's a sunny, attractive space that welcomes you. The menu is simple but intriguing, promising local ingredients combined in imaginative ways. We opted for a pizza, an antipasti platter and some homemade taramasalata. The pizza was as good as any Italian offering and the antipasti featured some of the best English-made prosciutto we've ever eaten. The taramasalata was just superb, so good that we asked for some to take home with us, which the very helpful and warm staff - all of them so friendly and confident - made happen. All in all, a really lovely experience. We wish we lived more locally as we want to come back and try more of the menu, because as chefs ourselves we love a kitchen that's excited about local food.

Even though our table was booked for 1pm, we were given the brunch menu and only realised there was another lunch menu to choose from when ordering desserts. Waiter took our order and read it back to us but the side of chips ordered were forgotten about and after chasing only arrived after we had finished main course. Roasted cauliflower main dish was delicious but served lukewarm and despite us asking about portion sizes when ordering, was only half a cauliflower when we were told it would be a whole cauliflower so no need to order any sides but we were left still feeling hungry.. We had to ask for cutlery for our desserts, then they brought all spoons and no knife for the cheeseboard. Cheeseboard was served without the grapes mentioned on menu and when queried was told they didn't have any so was served without. Would have been nice to have been advised of this at time of ordering! Home-made crackers tasted burnt and cheese looked like someone's leftover crumbs and extremely small slices. Overpriced food for what we received, so poor value. I think I'll give this place a miss next time I am in Frome. Shame, as location and ambience was so nice.

We visited Frome for the first time today (what a great place) and came across this. We really liked it. We had a sharing charcuterie platter. Delicious. Perfect for a light lunch. It was my wife's birthday and she had a couple of cocktails which she thoroughly approved of! (I had a very good non alcoholic cocktail Cornish Sunet) There is a disabled toilet. But access isn't good. Lots of stairs. A really pity. A wheelchair user wouldn't be welcome. Someone like me who walks with sticks can.just about manage.

Shockingly bad. Half an hour before anyone approached us for a drinks order. Long wait for mediocre bowl of soup. After waiting over an hour and three quarters for our main course we cancelled the order and left. And we'd waited so long all the chippies were closed! At no point did anyone give us any explanation or apology. Our orders were basically soup and pizza - we're not talking complex food here. Many other diners in the same position. If you value your time - and possibly your palate -DO NOT GO HERE!!

Mmmmm..a few issues we were not pleased about. We ordered 2 pizzas and had quite a long wait which bothered us because we were off to see a show so were on a bit of a schedule...I am gluten intolerant so ordered accordingly...I was not told verbally that the base would have an extra £2 added on because it was gluten free.. I've never had this before...would not have been so bad if I had been advised of this when ordering...Also the Service Charge.....Although on the receipt as discretionary it is AUTOMATICALLY added to your bill without really making you aware...It is US the customer to make this decision....I do not think this is a fair and honest way of trading as being british we rarely complain or challenge our bill at the end of the evening. Its made me much more aware that the bill needs to be carefully checked before payment in future ....Shame good venue but its the small details that really count with any eatery. Would we return...Probably not.........

All the the staff (bar the man who appeared to be the owner) were lovely and friendly. The owner was impolite to customers, and staff. He forced another couple onto our table - by shoving our stuff up the table almost causing spillage. He didn't ask, he told. It was awkward for me and the couple being seated and made me feel uncomfortable. Luckily the rest of my party were at the bathroom at the time so were saved this incident. The food was rubbish. Tasteless risotto, a burger so dry I may as well have ordered and inch of leather, and a pizza that my overeating pizza fiend child only nibbled at, and didn't like. Its a low bar, but it met it. All in, my partner and I agreed that the pizza was the best food that was served, but given low the bar had already been established above that is saying something. But as I stated, all of the staff we interacted with, bar the one, were lovely. Although they all looked overworked and tired. The one, the owner, shouldn't be there walking about trying to squeeze every extra penny he can from the place, or being rude to those around him as it brings the tone down. The venue is nice, the decor, the potential for ambiance - remedied easily enough. Would only consider going back if the owner took a back seat and let the people he is paying (badly im sure, given his reaction to a staff member suggesting they took some of their accrued 17 days of holiday) to do their job.

As regulars to 8 Stoney Street, we have never been in to try their Sunday menu. Tonight was the night! The lamb was absolutely beautiful and not your usual Sunday Roast - butter beans, Mediterranean potatoes and plenty of veg. Absolutely delicious. I love this...

Booked an early table for dinner. Arrived and were seated on a lovely table upstairs overlooking stoney street. The restaurant is lovely with a great vibe. We each ordered a pizza which was really tasty with plenty of toppings. Service was great to begin with, however we were forgotten about once our plates were cleared, despite it being extremely quiet. No one came back to see if we wanted dessert, drinks, or just the bill. Bit of a shame as everything else was spot on. Still recommend these guys for the pizza and lovely vibe

I removed my original review as my partner thought it was just a little unfair to the young staff. We do still want to say, is that we found this a poorly run, pretenious establshment with a team that appear not to care, that really does a diservice to lovely Frome which has so many better places. Pizza is ok but only just ok.

My partner and I have been visiting Frome this week fromNorthamptonshire and we were looking forward to trying out Eight Stony Street, not only had it been recommended by a friend but it also looked fab and had a really good sounding menu.Drinks were good to start with- no complaints! Starters is where it began to fall down. The salt and pepper squid we had was so undercooked. The batter was just flour so it wasn’t even a little bit crispy and the garlic bread was slighting too doughy also. Both needed more cooking and attention. I then had the fish cake and green beans and my partner had the lamb koftas and Greek salad. These dishes were both described as bowls... which to me would mean they are full of salad and nourishing ingredients to fill them... but mine was literally a basic fish cake and green beans, my partners looked seriously dull and just lacked any form of flavour. We also had skin on fries.... they weren’t even home made, tasted like maccies chips again skin on fries sound like big chunky homemade chips...My partner then ordered a red wine, which came out cold like it had been in the fridge,I feel like Eight Stony Street are massively trying to be something they are not by describing their menu in ways it just Isn’t. I could have cooked all the food we had tonight but much much better. Pizzas did look great though... so stick to them!!

Just wanted a drink. Directed to rickety table outside surrounded by flies. Asked to sit inside and they reluctantly gave us stools at a high bar type table which was fine. Waited 10 minutes for someone to at least acknowledge us and say, ‘sorry, we’re a bit busy - we’ll be with you soon’ but nothing. Then called a waitress over and asked if we could order some drinks. She said, ‘just give me a minute’ then went off to clean some empty tables! She then took our order (we’ve been sat for at least 15 minutes by this point) of 3 drinks, so we thought we were good to go. But no! Waited and waited and waited. Several waitresses buzzing around, taking drinks upstairs but again no acknowledgement that we had now been waiting for 25 minutes for a wine, a lemonade and a lager. The woman sat beneath us went to the bar and complained that she had ordered a prosecco a ‘very long time ago’ and still hadn’t received it. It really didn’t seem terribly busy to me with several tables empty but perhaps they have fewer staff under current circumstances. We left in the end, without our drinks. It was the lack of communication and lack of acknowledgement that we had been waiting a VERY long time that annoyed us more than anything. It came across as really rather rude. We were visitors to Frome so wandered off to find somewhere else and fortunately stumbled upon the Archangel. In huge contrast we were greeted by the most delightful young man who invited us in with a big smile, chatting away as he led us to a table. We ordered using an app and received our drinks within 5 minutes despite it being busy. My daughter felt chilly about an hour into our visit so they found us a table inside and we had a lovely chat with the manager about the history of the place. It doesn’t take much to be friendly and welcoming, even when you’re busy. Archangel nailed it, 8 Stoney Street certainly didn’t.

Utter joke . Didn’t feel welcome from the start. Got told to sit in a horrible corner of a car park ! Then asked if we could move as it wasn’t nice . Then moved into the bar rather reluctantly by the un helpful man on the door ..... only to wait for 25mins for a drink ( that never turned up ) all this while the staff were too busy chatting or cleaning a table ....

Where is the promised tequila Kent? We had to settle for Prosecco which isn’t even champagne. Suitably sad.

Nice Wine Tasting in FromeIn September, we were in Somerset, and attending a memorial service for a good friend. We had time between events, and were directed by our host, to Eight Stony Street, for wines. That was a great recommendation, as it turned out.Eight Stony St is several things: a wine bar, a restaurant and a wine shop. It is bright, and inviting, and we were seated by the windows, with a view of the town. We started with several of their wine Tasting Flights, and added a platter of cheese, as we would not be dining for some hours. The flights were all interesting, with wines that were mostly unfamiliar to us - always a good sign, as we love to explore the world of wines, and Eight Stony Street gave us just such an opportunity. We ended spending almost too much time, with our cheese, and the wines, and had to rush a bit, to get dressed for dinner, back in Frome. What a great recommendation, and what a fun wine bar. We will return, when next in the Somerset Area.

Ordered the mighty meaty/ hotdog crust, the pizza was the size of my fist, really disappointed, literally a 4 inch pizza with bites around the edge.
