As a family of four plus partners we were excited to try Stoneaged for a Birthday meal at 8pm on a Saturday night. Points of note below: - We were allowed to sit down and order drinks before then being told there was no fillet steak available; very disappointed. - Two of us that were going to have fillet decided instead to share a chateaubriand. Then told there were none of them left either. - Informed they had 1 t-bone remaining, rump and ribeyes. - Long wait for food even though there were 5 chefs on staff and only 2 waiting staff, who were ran off their feet but provided an excellent service despite the challenges they were facing. - A pizza that had less taste than a frozen tesco pizza. - Two orders of cheesy garlic bread that looked completely different, one overcooked and one undercooked. - Eton Mess with no fruit in it. - Chocolate sundae for which was just chocolate ice cream and cream. The saving grace of the night was the lovely Amelia who dealt with the circumstances amazingly. We’ve been told they are under new management so hopefully this will get better.

Had a lovely meal at this restaurant whilst staying in the hotel. I’m notoriously fussy with my steak so to be able to cook to my liking on the lava stones was perfect (especially for the dining party). We shared the chateaubriand which was a generous size for 2 and a good quality meat. Does come with a sauce, butter and portion of chips each but I would recommend adding sides. We include a portion of onion rings which were lovely and the chorizo, halloumi and tomatoes which was delicious.

Ok, we'd not eaten here for a while but what a difference to the previous visits. Poor service overall, and having to chase the bill after waiting staff had disappeared is not what I expect in this sort of establishment. Tiny portions of steak sauces and butter (should be ashamed to serve that to customers for the outlay) and the sides too. Too many frozen tasteless chips and the huge onions rings we used to love, now small medicorce offerings that was well overcooked the first time, and undercooked when we got a replacement. Thankfully the wine and steaks were ok but sadly we won't be returning. The above could well be the reason why the restaurant was empty on a Saturday evening ?

Charming staff welcomed us but then three of them took our order between them and got it wrong twice. Multiple items on the menu were available, then suddenly unavailable. In the hour it took for starters to come there was a constant drip feed of items no longer available. Kept having to order again. To their credit, they offered us a free round of drinks (extra star) to say sorry and were polite at all times. We were assured that we could order deserts and all were available so we did. 5/6 deserts turned out to be unavailable! Incredible. If this was a deliberate ploy to entertain customers it would be an hilarious farce. Someone need to get on top of communication here.

We booked a table and on our request sat outside. On ordering, it was explained to us that you cooked your own steak, so we both ordered Scallops and King Prawns to start, and Fillet steak for main. However, we were not warned that the seafood would arrive raw, and we would have to cook that ourselves too. I was very disappointed about this, because I ordered this dish for the exact reason that I can't cook - so why would I want to cook it in a restaurant when I won't cook it at home? I had to flag down a member of staff to ask her advice on cooking it because I was concerned about giving myself food poisoning. I ended up having to eat overcooked scallops, which had they arrived like that, I would have sent it back. On the other hand, as we were warned about the steak we were happy with the arrangement, and enjoyed our meal. We enjoyed experiencing with different degrees of cooking steak.Other than the issue previously mentioned, we found staff friendly, attentive and followed COVID procedures to a strict degree, so we felt very safe.

This was our third visit. We really enjoyed the food, as on previous visits. I had fillet steak and my wife had swordfish. Wine at £12 a bottle was good value. After the main course there was quite a wait with our plates not being cleared even though our waitress seemed to be unoccupied. So we didn’t bother with a desert or coffee. I think we would give it another chance though.

Staff were very friendly, explaining to us new-comers how their menu worked and checking on regular intervals that we and everything was ok. Food was absolutely beautiful- couldn’t fault the steak it was gorgeous and obviously you could cook it how you liked it! Starters and desserts were maybe a little more expensive- but worth the while if you are treating yourself to a lovely evening! Wine offers were good too at £12 for certain bottles. I would definitely recommend you try this place especially if you enjoy a nice steak!

Highly recommended! We ordered the Chateaubriand and cooked to perfection! Well as it is brought to your table sealed and on a very hot stone, you are the chef so have no one to blame if your steak is under or overcooked. However the cut of meat is so good, that you’ll enjoy it even if it’s not cooked exactly to your usual preference. So good and flavourful, it felt criminal to use the accompanying sauce. The hot stone concept is something different, something quirky and if you’re looking for an alternative dining experience, then make your way to the White Swan in Henley in Arden.

Upon arrival to a pre-booked table there was a bottle of Prosecco and wine sitting in the middle of the table with a tag on saying ‘buy me or take me home for £17’, if I had an alcohol addiction I would not be impressed that the restaraunt I had booked to eat In had tried to upsell alcohol on the table I was sitting at. I ordered the scallops and king prawns to start, they came out on a hot plate, there was no sauce and they were stone cold I had to completely cook them myself they weren’t even seared off in a pan. The service was shockingly slow, considering there is no cooking involved there I don’t see why it should take so long for the food to come out! The main (mushroom pasta) was way to sickly for myself and another friend, even the smell made me feel sick. I left the whole bowl and the waitress didn’t even ask if everything was okay as I’d left it. My friend had ordered some pigs in blankets which were forgotten, she had to ask twice for them to arrive and they came half way through her meal... she was still charged!! Because everyone is cooking steaks on the ‘stoneaged stones’ in the restaraunt we all walked out stinking of cooking and meat. I am beyond unimpressed, will not be eating here ever again!!!

We have visited this restaurant on my husband’s birthday. The concept is very unusual and cool: to get to cook your steak just the way you want it! I am not much of a steak person but I know a good one whenI taste it. The fries and the onion rings were tasty too. Very helpful and nice staff. The only note I would make is that the restaurant doesn’t seem to have air conditioning. We have visited on the UK hottest day on record and was extremely hot inside, especially with the hot stones on the table. But I guess how often are over 30C degrees in UK . Definitely worth the experience!

Visited last minute for an early dinner on a busy Saturday night. Wonderful atmosphere, friendly and relaxed, the gentlemen serving us was very helpful. The hot stone element is fun of course but the main enjoyment for myself and my husband came from the quality of the meat. We tend to avoid steak in most restaurants as we have had so many bad experiences but the fillet and rib eye we had was DELICIOUS.... totally melt in the mouth and we thought fantastic value. Attentive server, sides were great and as we had the scallops and king prawns to start we didn’t actually feel it was overpriced in the slightest ( as some of the reviews below state ). We both finished with desert; again we were incredibly pleased with the quality and taste. Drinks were good value and well chosen, especially the wine and if we visit the area again we will definitely book to return.

First visit and impressed. The restaurant is set within a nice old pub on Henley high street serving a good selection of draught beers. There is ample parking at the rear which is useful. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and explain how their flagship product works ie hot lava stones. I ordered the fillet steak which they sear and present to you with the lava stone, along with a butter of your choosing and a sauce and fat chips. You cut slices of the fillet and cook it as you prefer which means you eat it hot and just as you like it. It sounds a bit odd but it works really well and I thought it was an ideal way to eat quality meat. The most impressive thing is the quality of the steak. It was so tender and my knife cut through it like butter. It tasted great too! This was also true of the halloumi we ordered which is also cooked on the stone. My wife and daughter ordered the pizza which were also very good and made with quality ingredients. I finished with an espresso martini which was very enjoyable. I look forward to returning and trying the starter of scallop and king prawn and then the chateaubriand

I have been coming to the restaurant over a couple of months and every single time the service has been amazing , the staff are very friendly and attentive as well showing each table that they care. The food is excellent , could not fault the taste or presentation , what they have done with the steak on a stone is good in itself but also the meat always tastes so fresh. The look of the restaurant is also lovely and makes a really relaxed atmosphere . The only bad things to say would be that it is very very hot and because there isn’t much space in the restaurant when its busy its very very warm . Prices are what you would expect for a good food but the starters are definitely a little over priced for what you get. The hardest thing is trying to book here as its always fully booked. All in all great atmosphere , great food and amazing service. Thank you to the staff for a great evening.

The menu wasn't large, which I'm not unhappy about. If you like steak, it's a real treat, comes out cooking on a lava plate steaming away. My prawns and scallops came on a lava plate cooking in front of me, very interesting. I chose pizza for my main. It was homemade, delicious, but maybe a little less goats cheese would be preferred by me. We were really full after our mains so desserts weren't for us. The beer was good for my husband, but the wind etc by the glass could be improved. Overall, a lovely evening and a little bit different. We'd definitely go again. Good value for money.

I had met with a friend the previous week in the bar next door, so I thought it would be quite good. We were met by friendly staff and shown to our table, which was quite a good size. The restaurant is very spacious, with plenty of room between tables, which was good for us as we had one of our party that had reduced mobility. The waitress who took our order explained how the lava stone "worked" and we ordered our steaks. The food arrived and the steaks had been seared and partially cooked, allowing us to finish the cooking on the sizzling hot lava stone. The steaks were very good and the choices of butters and sauces to accompany them were very varied. The meal was more leisurely than at a traditional steak restaurant as you spend time cutting and cooking your steaks which made for a very pleasant atmosphere with plenty time to chat. All in all, a really nice restaurant with good food and a good atmosphere. The prices are not bad, about £6.00 for a starter/dessert and £20.00 for the steak. As we had booked our table for between 6.00pm and 8.00pm we had a free side order and the free glass of Merlot (which was also very nice). I would recommend this as a good experience with good food and I certainly will revisit soon.

Staying in the hotel, when the restaurants was full it was great they still managed to squeeze us in on the Saturday night. I had heard the hot stones you cook some dishes were novel and they were. I had a delicious rub eye steak I could cook exactly how I wanted myself. Another member of our group had a fabulous piece of Salmon and a pile of fresh Asparagus. The pizza were pretty good too. A very good range of drinks, with speciality Gins available on their own menu as well as a very repose table list of well priced wines and beers. The restaurant is well decorated in a beautiful old building with a cozy modern feel to it.It's a great place for a romantic meal, friends or a party. Service is faultless and the prices will delight you as well.Nothing else to say other than try it for yourself

StoneAged is a steakhouse situated in the White Swan pub on Henley High Street. It's difficult to get a table here on a Friday or Saturday and 3 or 4 weeks wait for a date is not uncommon. During the week you can generally call up in the morning for a table on the same night though, and its a real midweek treat! (on Sundays it turns into a standard restaurant with a good range of dishes, but no steaks or Lava stones to be seen...)The restaurant is at the rear of the pub and only seats around 40 maximum i'd say. It's well done out and there is a nice atmosphere. It's ideal for most occasions, a romantic meal for 2, a meal with friends, or a family visit which is what we did.We were greeted on arrival and shown to our tables. A selection of breads and our drinks were bought out very quickly, and the waitress explained how the steaks and seafood were served. You choose your steak, a flavoured butter, and your sauce, and then add any side dishes you want. All the steaks are briefly sealed in the kitchen by the chef and served to you on a very very hot lava stone for you to finish cooking it to your preference. The scallops and prawns are also served this way if you choose this dish (you can have this as a starter too).Mon-Thurs from 6pm-8pm all steaks come with a free side order and a free glass of wine too.We had starters and mains, my wife and daughter shared an anti-pasti platter to start & i had the scallops and prawns on the hot lava stone. Our young son had a stone baked pizza which was bought out with the starters and there was enough there for an adult! Everyone enjoyed the starters and the girls were looking forward to having a go at cooking on the lava stone after watching me do it. My prawns and scallops were excellent, very fresh indeed. My wife had the scallops and prawns for her main, we both had fillet steak. We found that taking the steak off the stone, slicing pieces off it on a plate and cooking it piece by piece was best. A little butter to cook with each time, then dipped in the sauce and eaten piping hot ended up being the best...It was a different way to eat your meal, and we really enjoyed it. The stones keep your food piping hot right up to the very last mouth full, and the high heat is perfect for cooking steak too.We didn't bother with a desert as we were full, but the menu looked of a good standard.Price wise, for the 4 of us with drinks (3 x wine (not counting the free ones), 1 x beer, 2 x waters, 2 x orange) it came to £105.00 which was good value for what we had.A great restaurant that we will be visiting again very soon!

Lovely food with the novelty of cooking your own steaks on the stone. You are supposed to get a complementary glass of wine with mains but we had to wait and ask for this and by the time it arrived we had almost finished our mains. Puddings were okay. Had to ask for coffees nothing offered by waitresses so I would say although pleasant the service was not very attentive. All in all a good night because of the friends I was with. It was quite expensive and service was hit and miss.

Simple menu specialising in steaks. Similar to some other steakhouses you choose a flavoured butter and a sauce to accompany the meat. Before the meat arrives you are presented with a rectangular hot stone, this is extremely hot. The meat arrives seared and you are then able to cook it yourself. When using the stone some smoke is generated. We ate on a quiet Monday evening, in a full restaurant this may cause an issue. The stones remained hot throughout the meal and certainly made the table area very warm. All the steaks were excellent. Others ordered fillets and these were large centre cuts. The chips were fresh and crisp. When dining early on a weekday you are given a free glass of wine with the meal. We shared a desert and the bill excluding service was just under 50 pounds per couple, great value.

Love the concept of this contemporary steakhouse. The steak is served to you Blue, with a skillet in front of you so you can cook your own steak to how you would like. The downside to that is that you're paying around 20GBP to essentially cook your own food.Cute setting with a lovely atmosphere.

Love the concept, the place is faultless. The food was exceptional, the fillet steak was so fresh and tasty, couldn't fault the quality. The children's meal was also enjoyed by our daughter. The service was impeccable, they couldn't do enough for us and deserve a lot of the praise as without this, the food is nothing! The salted caramel cheesecake was particularly yummy, perhaps one of the nicest cheesecake I've tried. The texture was brilliant and again presented very well. Cannot recommend this place enough, our daughter particularly enjoys coming here for the chocolate stones you receive with the bill.

We had the king prawns and scallops to start and they were very tasty. We both had fillet steak and they were very good cuts of meat! The food was fantastic, can't fault it at all! The only thing was the draft coming from the door or windows meant I had to keep my coat on because it was chilly in the restaurant.

This is a steakhouse where you are the chef! The staff take your order of cut, butter, sauce, and bring it all out with a lava stone so you can cook your steak at the table! It means if you're fussy about how your steak is cooked (like me), you can get it just right! It was great fun and the atmosphere and staff are very friendly. If you get there early enough, there's a free glass of wine as well! We also had starters and desserts, all of which were delicious. Cannot recommend enough. Shall definitely be returning.

Eating here was not just about the food but the whole dining experience. It's essentially a steak house but I ordered the salmon. Your fish or steak arrives seared on a searingly hot rock, the idea being that you carve pieces off your chosen meat/fish and cook them yourself at the table. I thought I'd struggle a bit (as did my fellow diners) but our waitress explained exactly how things worked before we ordered and she was constantly on hand to help if we needed her. Along with your steak/fish you have a choice of flavoured butter, a sauce and a side. I also had asparagus spears and cherry tomatoes with mine which I also had to cook on my hot rock. My goodness what fabulous food! I enjoyed every single mouthful and my fellow diners commented that theirs was among some of the best steak they had ever had. My pudding was a magnificent salted caramel brownie with real vanilla ice cream and a pot of warm Bailey's sauce; to die for! A fabulously social dining experience in a beautiful setting with friendly, efficient and knowledgeable staff. Unforgettable. Thank you Stoneaged!

I'd like to score this place somewhere between average and good. As the title implies, I did find my steak to be an excellent cut, but having to cook it myself means that it's hard to compliment anything other than the butcher. To be fair, this wasn't helped by the fact that I had the antipasti to start so the chef really had an easy night with me. The only thing that was actually cooked was the Moroccan rice which I chose for my side, this was very very good on its own right, but probably not a good accompaniment to steak. That being said, I'd recommend trying this place, probably not for an intimate 'date' type evening, but for a group of people it's something a bit different, it's good fun and it's attached to a nice little pub that has a good selection of beer. The score is more reflective of the overall experience as opposed to the quality of cooking. It's a really short walk to the train station too so even if you aren't particularly local to Henley, it's an easy place to go check out without needing a designated driver.
