Stir in Cambridge

Ok, where do I start. Since moving to Cambridge and working from home more regularly, I was on the lookout for somewhere to escape to with my little doggy. After being introduced to this amazing place in the village, where you get an amazing greeting and your dog is front and center, I knew there and the that I'd found what I was looking for. From the food to the beverages, it's just straight out of the top drawer. Coffee to die for and the pastry selection is top class. The option of both indoor and outdoor really acts as a breeding ground for social integration with other like-minded souls looking to escape for a minute and enjoy some much needed quality time. Couldn't recommend highly enough. If you're like me and looking for that special place, get down to the crew at stir. 😊💯❤️

I arrived at Stir at 7.54am in the pouring rain ready for a tasty breakfast, but the complete numbskulls there couldn't posess the sense to let me in despite the fact that I am a pensioner !!! No, I had to wait six minutes until THEY deigned to let me in. Initially I quelled my anger but when the waitress couldn't comprehend that all I wanted was poached eggs on brown toast, I'm afraid I lost it, and with very good reason. They do cook good food if a little strange (anyone for poached eggs with chili jam?) but their attitude towards pensioners stuck outside in the pouring rain absolutely stinks !!

Olga, Sabrine & Will thankyou ! Courteous, relaxed , and delicious seem to sum up Stir today. You want something different on the menu look no further the eggs Benedict and big brunch spot on and live the chilli jam , too full for cake but next time x

I come to Stir often, mainly breakfast and coffee. Sometimes with my partner or a friend. Often alone. Coffee is really good. They are always busy but staff are friendly and service always good. Today I had lunch which was really tasty- I particularly like the rotating specials. I would recommend.

Wonderful staff, friendly, welcoming, and joyful! Sabrin especially such a colourful personality! Great, well presented super tasty breakfast, brunch. Amazing choice of juices and the coffee is the best in Cambridge. Beautiful fresh atmosphere leaves you with spring in your step!

Called in for a take away quick coffee and snack while waiting for a friend to finish an appointment. The atmosphere is great. The savoury foods, salads, soups, sandwiches, all looked delicious. I didn’t have time to wait for anything to be made so I bought a flapjack - great that it was gluten and dairy free, as I can’t eat either of those things. BUT it was soooo sweet. All I could taste was sugar. I am writing this because I have had other cakes from there and they are always the same - far too sweet. It’s unnecessary to use so much sugar and really makes them unpalatable. I had a flat white with oat milk which was far too bitter. I like a strong coffee but not a bitter one. I never usually leave negative reviews but I think Stir could improve both of these things. It’s a great place and I am sure all the other food must be good because there were so many diners, which was great to see. The staff were very friendly. It’s a lovely sunny place to sit with outside seating as well.

Came down to visit family and this was our last stop before heading home; it was absolutely incredible! Good value for money, fast service, dog friendly. Cannot recommend enough. (Try the brunch board and hot chocolate)

Stir is brilliant! Me and my family go and it’s a great place for our dog.The food comes quickly and it tastes amazing! It’s definitely a fantastic place to go on a Sunday morning.

Been here many times before and had mostly positive experiences. However went on a Monday circa 1400 ( 4 of us) for lunch and was left underwhelmed by surly servers attitude. Seemed understaffed and their were 2 miserable looking male severs doing the rounds very slowly. We were sat for about 10 mins before anyone came to take an order. Because we were in a draughty position by the door we took the initiative and moved to a table elsewhere. Asked one server politely to wipe table down and he snapped back that as we had moved he had not time to wipe it. Though not wrong, the way he reacted rudely is not a great attitude for a service industry. My advice is just because you are short staffed don’t take it out on the diners. Our experience did get better once an American sounding gentleman started serving us. Food was pretty good as usual also. I would go back but not on a Monday. Think it’s better towards the weekend when staffed better without the surliness. I have encountered pleasant staff in there previously also.

We had a great lunch here, sitting outdoor in the sunshine. I had the Special which was 'Avocado and Asparagus with Feta Toast'. All of the ingredients were fresh, well presented and it all tasted delicious. The toast was their very tasty sourdough bread. My companion has the Classic Reuben Toastie which is pastrami, cheddar cheese and sauerkraut with Russian dressing on their sourdough bread toasted. Also excellent. I've not been here since before the pandemic and am delighted to find it is as superb as ever. A lovely menu and always good quality food. I'm not into cakes but their range looks very tempting for people who are.

Had a bacon sandwich cost a £4.95 had to take it back hardly any bacon in it so wouldn't recommend go else where should of gone to mcdonald's

This was my third visit to Stir. The food is always really tasty and the service is always excellent. Just a little gripe but important to me. I love really strong, bitter, black coffee. This was my third try at an Americano at Stir and it just isn’t great. It has an odd flavour, perhaps like there’s a splash of milk in it, I’m not sure. I would definitely return for food but not for the coffee sadly.

What a wonderful place. Came highly recommended by friend and was not disappointed. Absolutely fantastic buzzing atmosphere with a great mix of people and dogs 😉 The family and I had a delightful brunch/lunch served by a smiling and attentive staff. Was the perfect day for us exploring Cambridge. Visited the bakery next door too and bought a very tasty spelt bread and some of their coffee.

Interesting. This place is lovely and is next to its own bakery, thus pastries and all beautiful bits to eat are fresh. It is amazing that the bakery opens at 8 am (Sunday); unfortunately it is embarrassing that the coffee shop opens at 9 and staff turn people away, whilst one can see them not doing much….. To add insult to injury the coffee shop staff serves coffee to the bakery staff (walking through the back) but not to clients….good cakes, too bad you are expect to get away with delivering half the service…cake and not coffee… One word: Lazy. Basic management on how to run a business may be something to consider.

Delicious grilled cheese and hot chocolate exactly what winter is about. It was divine the service incredible and food and drink quality again wonderful. Will definitely go again so glad I found this new lunch spot.

Looks good, sounds good but the reality is quite different. Clearly very busy on a weekend but had to ask to be served 3 times having sat with menus for 15 minutes. Food was OK. Can't complain about that but then sat with empty plates for another 15 minutes after finishing. Plenty of staff walking around but no real control or organised working.

Having been recommended this restaurant perhaps our expectations were too high The place is dirty, the tables were sticky and baldly cleaned, the menu cards were dirty and greasy and there was dust and dirt in the corners everywhere on the premises, badly cleaned toilet (so our thoughts then naturally turned to the kitchen hygiene which we didn’t see) Great coffee, bad food! Smashed avocado + poached eggs, not good. Very little taste. Poached eggs should have been runny to flow over the avocado and toast however they were rock hard. I like that it was dog friendly, good idea, however we were maybe unlucky as the number of dogs in there when we were there, their barking and their smell was just a bit too much. Friendly helpful staff. I’d maybe come back to try their other dishes as the options looked great, though I won’t come back until I know the place has been cleaned.

The new Stir van at Chesterton Mill should be a great opportunity, but I just turned up at 8.45am and, although the van was ready and the lady ready to serve me, she told me that they don’t open until 9am and the owner doesn’t allow flexibility . A missed opportunity for dog walkers and before work coffee. What a ridiculous rule!

Called for late breakfast to find queue out the door, not an issue and quite happy to wait. Advised on point of ordering there was a 20 min wait for food, again no issue so we ordered but asked for our hot drinks to come with the food. Took our seat and food arrived, very tasty and well presented. No hot drinks so after the food we enquired and her guy with the curly hair and glasses berated us for asking for food and drinks together as they don't do it that way. So why did the girl on the till say it was OK. My wife felt berated, luckily I was not party to this telling off or else it would have escalated. Won't be back purely on his attitude

This place is truly fantastic. I was a little worried about food times, as both times I've been it was very busy. However the food came quickly, and service was great. More importantly, the food itself is amazing, and the sour dough bread especially good. The Almond Croissant and Cinnamon knot are so incredibly moreish and delicious. I especially liked that you could essentially build your own brunch by adding items to the sour dough toast. I'm very glad to have discovered this place and will be going back soon.

It's basically a coffee shop - with a tweak ! A wonderful "local" eatery, attached to a bakery. Specialises in smaller meals, mainly snacky type things or breakfasty things. All very nicely done, great coffee, good staff, good choice of veggie, vegan etc. NOT a place for dinner ! A very long walk from city centre and it has no parking, jst a neighbouring grid of streets where available parking is taken by residents and commuters.

I've had lunch here twice this summer and love the food and decor. Their menu is great - lots of lovely tasty and fresh ingredients like avocados, halloumi, smoked bacon, beetroot, spinach, poached eggs. I had the Brioche Stack last time I went and wasn't so keen on the bread as it was sweet but the time before I'd asked for sourdough bread with my choice which they'd been happy to swap to.

I popped into Sitr a few weeks a go and found out they do Gluten free bread in house & in their bakery so i was very excited to try it. WOW sourdough bread...it is unreal! I usually do a build my own meal as I am a little fussy, but with my avocado and halloumi and to finish a gluten free brownie YUM. Just a fantastic all round experience.

Stir is hugely popular and rightly so. By far the best coffee in Cambridge, a range of fresh baked goods and friendly staff who care. Weekends are very busy but well worth the wait. Our visit with friends from Swansea was hugely enjoyable and they loved breakfast and stocked up at the bakery next door before leaving.Always worth a visit and doesn’t disappoint.

Took my visiting family for breakfast today. I live locally and have always had nothing to complain about but today I have to say I was really disappointed. Didn’t feel welcome, my aged aunt asked if he would recommend any diabetic dishes but the man showed no interest or offer any dishes. There was no queue so he had time to at least suggest one or two.

Rented an apartment opposite the bakery and cafe, called in on a Saturday morning for some sour dough bread to discover that Saturday night was pizza night, eat in or takeaway. Pre-ordered a pizza and garlic bread, both were delicious, in fact they were so good we went back for a second pizza. You may get a pizza cheaper elsewhere but it won't be as good.

Stir are now a true parody of themselves - slow hideous queues, food and drinks bang average & expensive. This is what no competition breeds - contempt for the customer. Won't be going again any time soon.

The service is getting worse and worse everyday. Today I had to wait 45 mins for my order. They didn’t even try to apologise....

I've failed to get in here a number of times because it was too busy, so have been keen to try it for a while. We arrived and I thought we'd have to abort our visit as the queue was out of the door, but my husband pointed out that there were plenty of free tables inside, so we decided to persevere. We joined the queue which went very, very slowly. They have a very inefficient ordering process which they really need to sort out - only one person taking orders and that person is also serving up cakes and other things when taking the order which slows everything down. The coffee, when it eventually came, was very nice.

I have never been a huge fan of this over hyped cafe, which is only busy because it has no competition. However the service is getting worse and today we had to wait 25 minutes for 2 coffees, only to be served just 1 of them.

I visit my mother in Cambridge regularly and used stir numerous times but now refuse to go there. Not only is the menu very very limited to the extent that you cannot get an actual old fashioned sandwich, the coffee is bitter, the kitchen is too small and the waiting time too great. Any sensible café owner would make sure there were sandwiches or rolls available at the counter to grab and go with a cold drink but instead they are overpriced cakes or a huge cheese scone! I sometimes think younger people have lost touch with tasty food! The chick pea and frisee lettuce thing was quite the worst thing I have eaten for a long time! Be careful, you have a captive audience now but this does not always last. Sorry. PS. We don't all like sourdough bread by the way.

This really is the best and most reliable coffee in Cambridge. Breakfast and lunch choices are fabulous and healthy too.

If you're a regular at Stir you'll know that the quality of the good is pretty good and that the service is always polite and friendly. For me there are two downsides: 1) I really don't actually like the coffee, despite all the accolades. I find it bitter. Maybe that's just me. 2) You will often wait a long time, with your coffee having been long drunk, or else gone cold while you've been holding on for the food to arrive.

Walked in and said to the lady behind the counter something like “wow, this is where I want to be - it all looks awesome!”.

Cafe offering free WiFi, coffee and lunch / brunch menu. Food was ok - toasted sandwich was a little soggy. Coffee was very good. Place gets very busy and noisy so not necessarily the best place to do some work! Service was friendly.

I absolutely love this place and I have been coming here ever since it opened. The staff are fantastic but run ragged.

Before my Coeliac Disease diagnosis, I subscribed to Stir's bread delivery service. When I rang to discuss my new dietary restrictions, the very helpful staff member informed me they offered gluten-free bread but that it was prepared and baked in their small kitchen so they are not able to avoid cross-contamination meaning their bread isn't really gluten-free.

Delicious food, brilliant coffee and quick, friendly service! We will definitely be back next time we are in Cambridge and will highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Had the big brunch board which was delicious, the 'dirty chai' was super tasty, along with the ginger spice juice which was really refreshing. All the other options looked just as good and to top it off the bakery always has perfect breads and sweet things!

We have been regulars to Stir and have mostly enjoyed the experiences. Where there have been issues they have been with the service. Not unusual for the food to come way later than the coffee/teas which can be off putting but today was just too much. I mean how hard can it be to toast some bread?? No excuses, if you cant provide the service then please dont take our money, just say that it is not possible because you are too busy.

I was staying locally so gave Stir a go on the suggestion of some friends. It was very quiet at 8:15 in the morning as you’d expect so the food came out quickly and the service was unrushed. The coffee was great, some of the better I’ve had in Cambridge.

My coffee was delicious, and the weekend special brunch was devine.
