Sticks'n'Sushi Oxford in Oxford

The sushi here was pretty good. We got a sashimi plate with many different things on it and really liked most of them. Also the cocktails were good! The hot sake came in a very interesting vessel.

Geoffrey was exceptional. From the moment we sat down, he made us feel welcome with a warm smile and genuine hospitality. He was incredibly attentive throughout the meal, checking in at just the right moments without being intrusive.

We were welcomed very warmly. There was a good amount of availability for a saturday afternoon as we did not pre-book. When we arrived. The restaurant team collectively welcomes the guests when they enter which I thought was very nice. The servers were very good, refilling my drinks before I even realized I was almost empty, very polite and explained all the dishes to us. We ordered one of the set menus which was an excellent choice, the variety and quantity was perfect. There was very little wait between courses and the food was delicious too. The best matcha latte I've ever had. Overall a perfect experience.

Everything was great, would recommend to any sushi lovers. Table was far enough away from others not to have to hear any insufferable conversation from students of Oxford Uni 👌

We are regulars at sticks and sushi bit this was our first time in Oxford. It was great, big space but creatively split up. Food as good as normal and good with am allergy. Staff friendly but not always that knowledgeable but they still managed to sort what we wanted. Def recommend. They also have a great terrace for warmer days!

Food was amazing! We got a huge mix of everything. I definitely recommend the “Beautiful Mess”, I think that was definitely the highlight of my meal but the menu was so vast and we had little bits of everything and it all hit the spot, besides the house rolls which were a little mediocre. Ambience was incredibly soothing though, albeit the toilets could be a bit cleaner. Also not cheap by any means, but overall the positives outweigh the negatives by far!

Not suitable for Coeliacs. The specific gluten free menu was encouraging and the wait staff seemed knowledgeable and helpful with regard to making every effort to avoid gluten cross contamination in the kitchen. Of course, the usual caveat was issued that they would not be held responsible if there were trace amounts of gluten in the food. After some deliberation and checking that the soy sauce and wasabi were gf, we confidently enjoyed a delicious selection of dishes. We left full and happy after a delicious meal, but this was unfortunately short lived due to the sickness that followed. The sushi and service were very good but for one reason or another the restaurant does not seem capable of catering for Coeliacs.

It was our first time and we were a bit overwhelmed by the menu. Our waitress, Holly, gave us advised to order and the food that turned us was exquisite. The entire staff was very friendly. Highly recommend.

Very good as usual from SNS, the food is always excellent. We like to range from the entire menu and it's always a treat. We did think there were some things that detracted from the experience however. Initially for my wife's birthday we opted to dine on the terrace. There was some chill to the air and we were given blankets. It seemed odd not to just have outdoor heaters. But in the end it didn't matter since there are mice on the terrace. We were prepared to just be amused by this and carry on but they are actually bold little things and once one ran over my foot my wife ran inside so the vibe was ruined somewhat. My wife also had some specific dietary requirements, which I communicated to the server, but rather than making any suggestions or recommendations, she left me to detail the dishes I had researched prior to arriving, which made me think: if I hadn't done my homework, would she have had any idea of a dish I could order? Possibly not. Thankfully, the food was delicious, but I wasn't sure if the little complementary pot of mango sorbet she was gifted as a birthday dessert was the only option available for a dairy-free diner. A bit disappointing if that's the case seeing as she does not eat mango so went without anything at all. So, for a special occasion especially we felt let down in the details.

Let’s be honest, it’s a bit pricey but God is it worth it! I also discovered the app, where you accumulate points and I now have my favourite dessert for free ! The matcha dessert which is a chocolate fondant with the matcha melting inside + a scoop of ice cream. Divine!

The sushi and meat sticks were outstanding and service great. Lovely restaurant. It’s certainly not cheap but the food is really good and presented / explained beautifully. The deserts were really tasty too. The only thing that wasn’t perfect was the free tap water which didn’t taste very nice at all. Maybe you could filter it?

Everything is super starting from the hot face towels through the excellent customer service ending with the big variety of the delicious Japanese food 😋

The service was great… staff were friendly, efficient and attentive, but not suffocatingly so (I really don’t like it when eating at a restaurant to be interrupted and asked if I’m enjoying the meal) the food was very tasty and looked great. I think it is reasonably priced and there was lots of it! The dining area is clean, with neighbouring tables well spaced apart.

I enjoy going to places where the staff know the ins and outs of the menu, as well as the history of their workplace. It makes me feel well accommodated and ensures I pick what’s right for me. The service is amazing, and the food is fantastic. The atmosphere is also great—the music is at the perfect volume, and the lighting in the room is just right. It’s a very dark restaurant, but each table has its own lamp, enhancing your dining experience (I like to see what I’m eating). Highly recommend.

Expensive, MSG laden. Staff was great. Food was ok to below par for the cost. The salmon and wagyu skewers were overdone. Lots of flavour (read MSG) in the food leading to an unquenchable thirst.

After going to one in London we decided to go to one on our shopping trip and it was amazing. The staff were amazing they were so welcoming. lovely and happy. We sat at the bar as it was quieter and the guy on the bar served us was so welcoming and helpful and I loved the drink he recommended us. All round amazing service and the food and drinks were the best. Recommend here to everyone.

Sticks'n'Sushi is the best restaurant in Oxford. The menu is an artwork in itself with beautifully arranged pictures of platters of colourful sushi and sticks and perfectly captured bowls of artistically composed salads. After having ordered, we were handed with lemon-scented towels with chopsticks towels with which we washed our hands. The food arrived on/in absolutely beautiful Japanese dinnerware, precisely and stunningly arranged on the plate, and breathtakingly delicious. Sticks'n'Sushi is far more than just the food; it's the entire experience of the evening, and it manages to give such a unique and magical experience, because within that experience isn't a trace of gimmickry.

Damn! How lucky were we to stumble across Sticks n Sushi. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere was very relaxing, and the food was on another level! Some great options for set menus, as well as standalone dishes. The sushi was freshly prepared, carefully presented and the flavours were a delight! Can't wait to come again!

We’ve had a great time here every time we've dinned. The staff is friendly and costumer oriented. They were easy to talk to and had a good sense of humor. Our waitress, Brigitta, was especially amazing and very helpful. I highly recommend!

Nice location on the terrace of the shopping center. Tables available both outside and inside. Varied menu, nice dishes and fairly quick service. The only negative note is that we ordered water as a drink and it wasn't clear why they didn't leave the bottle or jug ​​on the table but every now and then the waiter came by to pour it into the glass thus leaving us several minutes without water in the glass empty. Well, I honestly didn't understand this.

The wagyu beef couldn't be made medium rare (idk why, they didn't give us an answer), so the skewer was dry. Food portions were really small for the price, no salt or pepper added to them. Rice with chilli wasn't even spicy. My friends and I wanted to split the bill and the waiter was SO RUDE that he told us to calculate it ourselves and then he'll come back, he also made comments about us (really rude responses, mumbling to himself about us - which we could hear). And our orders were like 200 pounds together, so around 50 each... we at least deserved some good customer service for that much money spent.If you want a nice experience in Oxford, don't go here, there are so many better places that serve better food, for a better price and the CUSTOMER SERVICE is good, not like this one.

We had a very lovely evening with very attentive staff. It was my boyfriend's birthday and they took extra care, which was very kind. The only thing I would point out is that when you order a sharing platter for four at £139, and you want to switch one item for another (cheaper!) Item, it seems incredibly stingy to charge £1 for that change. Just do it, just realise this request if you want to be a high-end place.

We came here for Sunday lunch and were seated outdoors with a nice view overlooking the cathedral. There are a variety of sushi and skewers to choose from on the menu. We ordered the hiramasa kama (very popular and we needed to check with the kitchen for confirmation; we were told there were only two left and couldn't have been happier to secure this set), followed by the Robust set, which comes with edamame, karaage, broccoli, buta yaki, and other skewers. I requested to swap the yaki yagi (goat cheese and ham skewer) for another tsukune chilli (chicken meatball skewer). The service was fast; we got our first order in less than 10 minutes. Overall, we enjoyed dining here.

Food is smashing and you are treated like it's a special occasion and taken care of. Atmosphere is great if you like busy, cool, place to be rather than intimate quiet evening. Fourth time eating there and it's becoming a favourite.

I came here expecting good things. What i got was excellence. The food was beautiful looking and tasted fantastic. Me and my partner came on Friday expecting to be rushed a little bit however we were looked after with recommendations of wine to pair with our food. Knowledge abd care is second to none. Highly recommend. Vegan friendly... halal... and cater to a wide variety of allergens. For thw price we paid they delivered service and food to match

The whole experience was great, the weather was nice so we sat outside with the nice view. The restaurant was not busy and we managed to get a good table without any booking. We ordered some different options to try and we were pleased with our choicest the sticks were surprisingly good and very different (mainly the duck with yolk egg on the side). Also, their sparkling lemonade was refreshing and tasty, excellent for a sunny day.

It's one of the best sushi in Oxford. There are a lot of options between a la carte or a set menu. It's really worth your visit. Good selection of wine as well.

Good selection of food. I had the Emotion selection which was very good apart from the two 'kebabs' that were too saltly.

Several dishes on the menu are tasty, and the quality is good, though not exceptional. The majority of the staff are welcoming and easy to interact with, although the same warm atmosphere doesn't quite extend from the management. Upon arrival, it appeared that the manager, had an unwelcoming expression and came across as somewhat snobbish and arrogant. It's possible she was just having a tough day. The seating is notably uncomfortable, and the interior design of this specific location doesn't impress. In summary, it's a decent spot with an attractive food and drink menu, but it doesn't quite hit the mark of being extraordinary.

I’ve had an amazing experience today, the sushi is the best sushi I have ever tried, we have a one year old baby, a baby chair was offered, service table was great, as I live when you don’t have the waiters always asking if everything is ok, they served the food with excellent attention. I've never had to write quite a review like this so here goes... We had lunch here last Sunday. It was busy in the restaurant but it seemed to be well staffed. We had an initial confusion at the beginning as we asked whether the edamame beans from our set-meal could be brought out first, but also switched for grilled instead of boiled. All ok - and we agreed the surcharge this would incur (we were told £1 for substitutes, but to be honest it was muttered to us and I'm not sure we heard this right). Service was hit and miss. Firstly, a second set of Edamame beans turned up at the table when we already had the first lot, so we sent these back, having only ordered one. Sometimes when we wanted an extra drink or the bill we couldn't attract attention at all. Other times, like when my wife was finishing the end of her meal with food still on the last plate, a member of staff started clearing before she had finished then waited by the table to take her personal plate as soon as she put her chopsticks down - which was unpleasant and uncomfortable. As such, we decided the service charge of 12.5% was not appropriate and asked, when the bill came, to remove it so we could choose our own value. (As it hadn't been that awful, we would have paid something). The waitress disappeared off with the bill, and to my surprise, when she came back, she had re-evaluated it and added extra charges for the Edamame beans mentioned earlier. I queried this and she said it was the surcharge she mentioned earlier (she had just "forgotten" before. I don't think it is acceptable that, just because a customer declines to pay an optional 12.5% service charge, that you would vindictively re-evaluate their bill to add extra charges. Either the charges should be there or they should not. It should not matter if you pay service charge or not. Furthermore, after leaving the restaurant (while this was happening we were strapping a toddler back into a buggy) we noticed that in fact, they had charged for the Edamame beans, incorrectly, further up the bill. So she was also wrong to re-evaluate the bill. She was also wrong in the way she had charged it in the first place. We have therefore been overcharged. It's minor in terms of costs, but the nature of the way this was done has left a sour taste at the end of the meal. I have since contacted the restaurant via email to explain the situation and via the feedback form they had sent me and have had no response to either, so zero marks for customer service post - meal either. What is sad, is that the service at S+S Oxford used to be spot on, and always deserving of 12.5% service charge, but I do think it has lost its way since it first opened.

Positive things first - one of the few places you can get sushi as well as food for non-fish lovers (the sticks). The various seared and raw fish are delicious and the dressings tasty. Cocktails are tasty (albeit not very strong most of them - this month's special in a coupe glass is perfect). Ambience is great and location convenient. Servers are friendly and generally helpful although I'll come onto that. Slight negatives - I've been here several times and last time there was a slight hiccup with the scallops because they were raw. First server I asked said they were meant to be like this but as a sushi lover and someone who has had the scallop stick before I still wasn't convinced and they got taken off our bill by maitre'd. I came for another meal last Friday and they'd forgotten our ticket so we had some starters then a 30 minute long wait until we asked the wait staff where the rest of our meal was. I felt like they were trying to rush us through this part of the meal as me and fiance were finishing the last few bites and servers pounced on our table and started removing dishes. Annoying because I wanted an extra squeeze of lemon with my miso cod but the lemon was whisked away in front of my eyes before I could say anything! Honestly if I lived in London I'd go elsewhere for sushi but there isn't a huge amount of other choice in Oxford.

Everything we ordered was so fresh and delicious. Especially loved the Soft shell crab rolls, beef tataki and padron pepper skewers.

All the staff on were very kind and friendly! Food was great and the sauces were amazing. Would definitely go back! Thank you again for making a great birthday meal - the free pud was great too! perfect for her.

Food was fine. The 'atmosphere ' was spoiled by the THUMP THUMP THUMP of the loud music. Why restaurants think loud, throbbing music enhances the ambience, beats the sxxt out of me. Audio-pollution. We asked the waitress if they could turn it down, particularly as we had an autistic boy with us, and they did so after asking twice, and then only a tad.

Living in London, I frequently dine at this chain of restaurants. I was so pleased to discover one when in Westgate today. From the moment I arrived the staff were so welcoming and it was a really relaxed dining experience. The food as always was fresh and authentic and I enjoyed an array of dishes, The staff here are really something special, looking forward to returning when next in Oxford ❤️

This is a venue we'd always fancied trying, but as Sushi novices we weren't sure it'd be a good place for vegetarians / vegans to dine at. Thankfully as soon as we were welcomed into Sticks 'n' Sushi by the excellent staff, we were put at ease and guided through ordering from the truly splendid menu (which, quite honestly, you would love to take home and just stare at, it's a work of art!) With the aid of the staff, we opted to get one of the larger platters for three of our fish / meat-eating family members, and then a vegetarian option between two of us. One thing to be clear on when you're ordering water for the table is that you will be charged if you don't state you want tap water, so definitely keep that in mind (not a problem if you're ordering other drinks but we always like water with our meals). Food arrives in stages, starting with the starter plates and sharing dishes, then the sushi / sashimi and then the hot sticks. I think just about everyone in the family had a favourite thing, and my daughter (whose birthday it was) really loved trying all the different items, very quickly establishing that the fried chicken and shrimp were utterly amazing. For the two vegetarians in our party, the choices were also excellent and really tasty (the vegetarian hot sticks made with sweet potato and tofu were incredible). By the time the third round of food arrived we were already stuffed but took our time and also ordered sweets (again, these are a real wow in terms of presentation and taste) and the restaurant also serves excellent coffee. Though it's definitely not a mid-range or budget place to eat, we felt like it was an amazing occasion and working out at around roughly £40 a head, it wasn't actually super-ridiculously expensive for the five of us and we definitely felt it was a great venue for a special birthday. I guess the only gripe - and it's a tiny tiny one - is that it gets very busy so sometimes it's difficult to catch staff's eye when you need your table clearing or need the bill, but as I said at the top of the review the staff are welcoming and friendly and extremely helpful and really good at explaining what everything is as it's brought out and you start to tuck in. You are in for a treat if you eat here both for your eyes and your tum!

Excellent evening out at Sticks'n'Sushi. The food is superb. There is a huge selecion, and each dish we ordered was as visually impressive as it was tasty. It's great for the 'gram but even better as a real-life gathering. The setting is fine, but definitely allows the food to be the highlight. Service was just above OK. Dinks were a bit slow to be really honest, but not a problem overall. I think the cocktail making impacts the whole drinks service. Anyway, it's easy to recommend and will definitely go again when the right special occasion comes along.

Horrible experience with their take away service. I ordered a salad after a long day at work. I got a salad with hair inside the box. Poor hygiene and not acceptable for an £18 item. What followed was however, a lot more frustrating. I got in touch with Deliveroo to complain, they reffered me to the restourant, I contacted them, photo evidence included. I was just fobbed of with a one liner, not even an apology. I got in touch again, next time they referred me to a Deliveroo again saying they should refund me. Deliveroo then referred me back to them, saying they need to fix it. Both sides wasting my time and playing games. Am I as a customer supposed to negotiate and arrange things between them? This is unacceptable behaviour and incredibly poor service. Please find photo with the hair attached. I will not be visiting or ordering food from Sticks and Sushi again. After 20 more messages back and forth Deliveroo refunded part of the order. However, the whole experience has been both time consuming and frustrating. Once you give them money they will treat you like a nuisance, even when it's clearly their mistake.

We went there to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The food was delicious, very high quality, either the sushi and the cooked dishes. Good choice of drinks. The service was great too and the waiter explained each dish when bringing the food to us. We also got a little surprise before leaving, they sent out a mini dessert with a birthday candle, which we thought was a little lovely thing for them to do. It showed care fir the customers. We’ll definitely go back!

My daughter booked a table for 12 friends tonight for her 18th birthday celebration. The table was booked for 8.15pm when they arrived they were told they were really busy and had to wait an hour. Very disappointing keep this in mind if booking for a large group on a Saturday night. They had to go somewhere else as restricted to train times. They were all very disappointed.

The food is skillfully prepared, blending sushi with Western sauces creatively. Each dish is beautifully decorated with vibrant colors. Highly recommended!

Adventurous fusion of sushi with excellent alternative offers. The wagu beef sticks are highly recommended, even minding the price. Try with side offer of egg yolk and rice. Excellent cocktails and desserts choice at Michelin level taste-wise ( save for shabetto, which is nice and perhaps more than intense than other, but still a sorbet ...) while still reasonably priced. All presented very nice. I visited several times, including organising parties, never been disappointed... Perhaps only when they inevitably run out of Hiramasa Kama....

This a destination night out for anyone who loves Asian food. The concepts of the menu, cocktails and execution is top level. Only disadvantage was the wine list which was a bit pricey for the types of wine offered.

Went with my boyfriend for an anniversary, and it’s some of the best sushi we’ve had in a while. The rolls were tightly rolled with just the perfect amount of rice, the salmon was the most fresh I have ever eaten, and every single thing was delicious - but highly recommend the ebi bites, soft shell crab house rolls and New York Subway rolls. Service was incredible, and very accommodating as my boyfriend is Muslim, so they put notes on our order that some items were to be halal, and the kitchen removed some sauces that weren’t halal and all the dishes were incredible. They also gave us a free mango sorbet with a candle (no singing luckily as we both would have been embarrassed) as they knew it was a special occasion. We will definitely be coming back as we were very very happy with everything overall.
