Came here for a Groupon afternoon tea. Lovely old building. The staff were friendly. Sandwiches and cake good quality. But wasn't impressed with the mug of hot water with a teabag. Afternoon tea should always be a teapot and cups and saucers.

Very disappointed when visited. We arrived just before 2pm to be rudely told they only serving cakes, sandwiches and jacket potatoes as the kitchen was closing for the day even though it says serving till half 2. The waitress offered us a highchair for the baby but said its upstairs as if too much effort to get it. When eating the staff was cleaning down the coffee machine and cakes getting to close even though hadn't finished eating making us feel like we was an inconvenience. The food was okay but overpriced for what it is. We will not be returning.

What a wonderful tea room in the heart of Chelmsford town. Very friendly place to go, made to feel so welcome and very helpful staff. Food delicious. I enjoyed a lovely cream tea with my cousin. I have also had lunch there many times including very tasty home made soup. I would recommend a visit there if you are visiting Chelmsford town centre.

Went here for lunch. Have been previously some considrabletime ago and was excellent.Very disappointed on this visit. No omelettes available, asked for ice for drinks , no ice available ,asked if any lemon for the drinks and was told there should be , asked for vinegar was told don,t have plain vinegar. Balsamic vinegar and dressing were bought up by from the kitchen , my friend chose the dressing which was poured over her salad by the staff member and bottle then taken away as it belonged to the kitchen. My friend requested some tap water and was directed to the back of the dining area to get it herself. The ploughmans was very basic , the cheese was tasty but it was really just a deconstructed cheese roll with coleslaw , a few crisps and a tiny pot of chutney at a very steep £10.50. The service was a bit hit and miss . Prices are expensive for what you get even taking into consideration inflation. There are numerous other eating venues in town so don,t think we will return

Went for an Afternoon Tea with a friend, so impressed! Especially as one of us is gluten-free which didn't seem to be a problem. Food was all delicious and served charmingly and attractively. Lovely pot of tea each, wide choice of sandwich fillings, variety of cakes and of course scrummy scone, clotted cream and jam. All excellent. So good I have already made a repeat booking.

Five adult family members went for lunch and a catch up. There was a welcoming atmosphere and a good menu with the usual deli choices. Even though it was well after 1130 a.m. they let us order a breakfast fry, which was impressive. There are a variety of seating configurations. The waitress was friendly and efficient throughout. The bill totalled £51 for five meals and four drinks, which was a little more than usual. We all enjoyed the food and the welcome.

So we went to register the new baby foodmunkey and afterwards we found this hidden gem in Chelmsford. Hidden in plain site but on Tindal Street where you wouldn’t really walk down unless you’re on a bus next to the back of the music shop is Stewart’s Tearoom. A beautiful quaint little deli and tearoom serving up afternoon tea, fresh jackets and sandwiches and a cracking pot of a English Breakfast Tea! The tearoom had a real family feel to it and an excellent selection of cakes. We both had a ploughman’s with cheese and ham, our minds were blown. Literally one of the best ploughman’s we’ve had for a long time. The tastiest mature cheddar, the thick cuts of fresh ham. Oh and the bread, the bread is insanely fresh and warm… the kind of freshness that you don’t want to even put toppings on, just a little bit of butter. Just a beautiful place and a true hidden gem that’s been around for over 10 years.

Visited Stewarts for the first time in couple years after lock down and had the biggest shock of all when we were handed the menu. Sandwiches were £9.50 each ? Really where do you get these prices from.... We decided to leave as two sandwiches and two drinks would of cost near on £30. Sorry but not paying that

Although I've lived in Chelmsford for nearly 30 years I'd never visited here before but I was really impressed. The staff were really friendly, the service was efficient and fast and the food and drink were lovely. The Carrot Cake was amazing, to die for and I'd really recommend it. A lovely place with good old fashioned standards of food and service which is, sadly, lacking in similar places these days.

My husband and I had a Groupon voucher for afternoon tea. We booked by phone for a Saturday afternoon 2 weeks ahead. We had visited the tea shop in the past with one good and one a bit mixed experience. But we had the voucher which was due to expire so thought we’d give it another try. I also had read some reviews here which were neutral and some a bit negative. So we went with an open mind and were very pleasantly surprised. We were seated upstairs In a corner table. Nice and cosy. We were offered the sandwich choices and opted for coronation chicken and salmon sandwiches. We had a scone each with cream and jam plus a choice each of one slice of homemade cake. I had carrot cake and my husband chose coffee and walnut. All the food was delicious and tasted very nice, freshly (home) made. Service was helpful, efficient and friendly. We were not hurried and enjoyed the experience very much.

Popped in for a light lunch. I had toasted panini with Mozarella cheese and roasted vegetables. There was plenty of cheese but i almost had to search for the vegetables. Three very small bits of what looked like courgette. So little they could hardly be tasted. I chose this dish because when i've had it elsewhere the panini has always had lots of vegetables. Think the amount of vegetables defies the description. The young girl who served us was friendly. Also good cleanliness.

Came here for lunch to try out a new cafe in town during the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme with a friend.Upon arrival, we noticed that the restaurant was empty, but we were offered to sit upstairs which we accepted as we thought it might be nice and quiet, which it was.We weren't asked for our details upon arrival in order to be tracked and traced for Coronavirus, which is one thing I think the establishment should definitely introduce for health and safety reasons. The waitress and table service she provided was really friendly, polite and enthusiastic, as she offered us drinks on arrival and was quite prompt in bringing these up for us.When ordering our food and drink, some of the drinks options were not available or in stock, as well as the prawn cocktail sandwich filling, which my friend was excited to try.We ordered the chicken and bacon panini, and the tuna and cheese panini. The wait for food was very reasonable, only around 10-15 minutes, but the problem was when the food arrived. Both paninis were just about warm, and the cheese was not melted at all. The chicken and bacon filling tasted like a supermarket filling rather than something you would expect to have in a fresh panini. Both plates arrived with a side of salad, coleslaw and a few crisps. The coleslaw was watery and flavourless, but the salad was okay. There were only a few crisps but they were quite nice too.The waitress came over after our meal to kindly offer us further dessert menus and ask if the food was okay. She provided us the bill efficiently and told us to have a nice day.Overall the service was friendly and polite, but the food was substandard and I wouldn't pay for this again. This review is all subject to my opinion and personal experience, and you may find a different experience if you visit at a different time of day or order different food etc.

Went today, one of the oldest tea rooms in Chelmsford... lovely little place Coffee come in small cafetière ( yippeee no instant) sarnies yum yum classic ham, egg and salmon with cream cheese. Scones warm served with clotted cream and you get a choice of tiptree mini jams ( strawberry, raspberry or black currant) cakes HOME MADE! You don’t get a choice of pasties to endulge just you e large slice of homemade you choose.... we had choice of Victoria, coffee, chocolate, carrot, chocolate chip. We had coffee and Victoria, very very nice! Tea and coffee free top up if buying at full price f £18 per person.... I got this if groupon £16 for two of us! BANGING BARGIN! But with groupon you do have to pay £2.50 for extra pots of tea or coffee..... no processco available to buy, ☹️ they do have a licence so if you call before you can bring your own as they have flutes! ( did not know this) Must be able to climb stairs as old house and it’s upstairs! Toilets down in basement. Lovely staff served by Linda! Only let down is the crockery! No China just thick lipped porcaline cups 4 teapot rating due to crockery and no procecco! ( that’s a must in my eyes ) apart from that blinking yummy

We have eaten here many times and usually get a simple lunch of either sandwiches/baguette or quiche. The quality is very good and service friendly. However, for a change we went recently for the afternoon tea, which was a big disappointment. Four tiny finger sandwich slices, two small plain scones which were so dry we wondered if they had been made the day before, and no top up of tea (which for £15 you would expect). The slices of cake were OK but choice limited. It's not something we will repeat but will stick with the standard lunch menu in future.

Visited after being given a Groupon voucher. Disappointed that an establishment that describes itself as a "tearoom" uses teabags for some of their drinks. It was the equivalent of visiting an Espresso bar and being given a mug of Nescafe. (Other instant coffees are available.) Equally disappointing to be told that my voucher only entitled me to one teabag, and I'd have to pay for another. The food was acceptable, but I'm sure "regular" (ie non-Groupon) customers have a more pleasurable experience.

Ordered quiche at early lunchtime to find it was finished. Ordered mixed salad with prawns in Marie sauce; the salad was just a small portion of leaves, carrot, onion and no tomatoes or cucumber. The prawns were in mayonnaise and tasteless. On complaining, some quarters of tomatoes were produced but no cucumber. No explanation for no Marie sauce. The coleslaw was in the same mayonnaise and sickly. Our drinks were produced after several requests. I consulted the Manager/chef who was completely disinterested and totally unsympathetic to my complaint. This was the worst lunch meal I have ever had in Chelmsford and I will never return or recommend.

Myself and my three daughters had afternoon tea with a groupon voucher. The sandwiches were fresh and our dietary requests were catered for. The problem arose with the cakes side of the afternoon tea. We had two small scones and the choice of one slice of cake. The scones were probably the worse I have ever tasted. They were doughy and tasted like uncooked pastry. The slice of cake we chose was salted caramel, this was dry. Carrot cake again very dry and passion fruit cake this was the freshest of the three. The staff all seemed very nervy and it made us feel uncomfortable. When I pointed out to the lady that served us about the dry cake, which we had left, she stated that we would need to speak to Matt and walked away. When we left, I spoke to Matt who was not interested that the cake was dry and did not make any effort to be friendly and had no customer service skills at all. I would not return as myself and my daughters did not enjoy the food or the atmosphere.

We both ordered turkey, brie and cranberry panini and a pot of tea each. It was very good and a pot of tea is just enough for two cups. We came across this cafe by accident on a recent visit to Chelmsford. It's in a lovely old building in Tindall Street. It's only small but has a great atmosphere. The cakes are yummy and the service was prompt and very pleasant.

Visited on a recommendation from a friend for breakfast. I must say the portion size and quality of the food was perfect! Highly recommend the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. The homemade cakes looked delicious as did the lunch time menu. They had gluten free options. The staff were friendly and attentive and the service was quick. I will be back!

We have been eating at Stewart's on & off for since it was owned by Stewart. We have always enjoyed the food & the loose tea though the choice is much restricted under the present management.

We visited Stewart's for afternoon tea, a really nice little tea room with plenty of room over two floors. Every thing was nicely presented and very fresh ,sandwiches for filled with various fillings lovely slice of cake of your choice and two freshly baked scones with traditional cream and jam all of which was very tasty.staff ,welcome and service was excellent and we checked there menu and this has a great variety of things to enjoy for a lunch including my favourite a choice of ploughmans which we was informed will include a porkpie one in the new September menu so already planning our next visit we highly recommend this little gem on tindle street Chelmsford just down from tindle square

Like many others due to a Groupon offer I came to enjoy afternoon tea for two. There is some seating downstairs but mostly upstairs which is airy and peaceful considering the work going on currently outside.

I arranged the visit through a Groupon offer and was very impressed. The cakes and scones were home made and very tasty. We were in there for ages catching up and weren't hurried at all.

My friend booked us Afternoon Tea as my birthday treat. Though a busy period the staff were efficient and friendly. There was a lovely atmosphere. I could not fault the service or the quality of the sandwiches and cakes.

i have been going to Stewart for a great many years during which time it has changed owners and style but always remained the bastion of good food. This is whether as a venue for breakfast (you cannot beat toast and marmite, except maybe with a bacon sandwich!) or for lunch in a tea room style so sandwiches, jacket potatoes and so on, whether to eat in or takeaway.

This is a delightful cafe venue, just off the busy and frenetic Chelmsford High Street.

I booked afternoon tea with a friend after seeing Stewart's advertised. We were greeted as we arrived into a quaint tea rooms which is over several floors. The location is ideal as it is in the town centre and very convenient. The staff were lovely, welcoming and nothing was too much bother.

This was my first time in Stewarts in a long time and I was pleased to see how they have refurbished the place but still kept the character of the original building. It's a cute little tearoom / deli tucked behind Oxfam / up a few steps from the main Boots in Chelmsford. I had a delicious homemade quiche lorraine and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his salt beef and pickle baguette followed by the best flat whites outside London. Service was friendly and prompt and they had a great selection of homemade cakes and treats at reasonable prices. I would recommend Stewarts to anyone.

Called on the off chance and managed to get a table. Welcomed immediately as we walked in. Pub was packed and was told our table was just being cleared. We were also served immediately and as our drinks were ready so was our table . The service he is amazing with very polite staff . Food was amazing and had ho E made desserts. I would highly recommend to others. Also this is a dog friendly pub and you are supplied with a dog blanket and a bowl of water, which is a nice welcoming touch.

Sindy's is a totally unique little shop doing amazing fresh sandwiches. They're ridiculously good value for money too. Fresh bread smells amazing.

We visited to celebrate our wedding anniversary and the food was incredible, the quality and the amount was perfect. One of the best meals we've had for a while. If you're in the area definitely book yourself a table!
