Rose and Crown Pub in Chelmsford

Called on the off chance and managed to get a table. Welcomed immediately as we walked in. Pub was packed and was told our table was just being cleared. We were also served immediately and as our drinks were ready so was our table . The service he is amazing with very polite staff . Food was amazing and had ho E made desserts. I would highly recommend to others. Also this is a dog friendly pub and you are supplied with a dog blanket and a bowl of water, which is a nice welcoming touch.

It was my daughter's birthday and there was no restaurant around, so we chose the pub. It was a blessing in disguise. The food was perfect for kids, and they loved the food. The atmosphere is great 👍 sadly due to rainy weather, we couldn't choose the seating outside. It is a must visit pub, and I am definitely coming in summers to enjoy the beer garden. Staff was super friendly. I would recommend anyone this place. Thank you for making our day.

The Rose and Crown is the perfect independent pub. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is lovely, and the staff are the most positive, kind people on every single visit. Can't rate it highly enough!

Although a pleasant pub and nice window seat, unfortunately the food was terribly disappointing. I opted for the ploughman’s lunch, this was totally unappetising, a small chunk of cheddar, couple of pieces of sweaty looking game, half a roll , pickle on side and gritty unwashed lettuce, oh yes and half a pickled onion and half a gerkin. This was 5p shy of £17! The half roll was nice, nothing else. My party’s meals were more appreciated and they were consumed. For 4 adults and 2 kids 3 x soft drinks totalled £99. A side plate of Halumi for 4 year old was £4.95, priced at 80p a piece. Shockingly poor value,

We hired the function room at the Rose and Crown recently for a celebration of life for our mum who recently passed away. The staff were amazing and took care of all of our needs The buffet comes with different price points. We chose the top one which really was top notch. They have their own sound system so theirs no need for a DJ. All you have to do is press Bluetooth and connect to the playlist on your phone so you can play all your own music. The Rose and Crown in on Writtle Green, the setting is great and the garden is huge with a large patio area. We hired the hall for four hours but we were made welcome to stay as long as we liked which was very kind of them. We couldn't fault our experience and we'd highly recommend it. All this and it came in under our budget, the prices were very fair. It was a long day and were overwhelmed so I overlooked leaving a tip. No matter as we'll popping in again soon so I'll sort it out then😊

I booked for 8 people, but at the last minute I needed to add another diner, they were happy to help. The food was excellent, sadly some of the item on the menu had sold out showing how popular this is as an eating destination, but that didn’t stop any of us still having an alternative we were just as happy with. As this is a pub the drinks were well kept and was very pleased with the selection available. The staff were attentive and made the experience of meeting friends even better. Will visit again

Lovely place. Beer is reasonably priced, service was fantastic, and the food was delicious and once again very reasonably priced considering you get allot. Highly recommend. Bacon, Brie and Cranberry sandwich was amazing.

Had the best food the chef is unreal and Jess and Kirsty the best bar staff ever. They were so welcoming and we had dogs with us who absolutely adored Jess.

I'm new to the area of writtle .eaten there once food was nice kirsty was our waitress she was lovely .I've been there 4 times now love the the big garden area .beer is cheaper than other pubs in the area .very nice place to go .

This pub used to have the best roast in in Essex, and I agreed, expensive but beautiful so you don'tmind..however I went last week and the same price but the roast beef was more like fried sliced beef/steak slices .. so I feel that they have got you a little bit there, lovely pub nice atmosphere would continue to go but not pay out for the roast anymore which is a real shame, could be a one off but has to be said for the price

Had a lovely lunch with my sister, who was visiting from America, I take her there every year as the food is so good. Lovely garden area to sit when the sun is out, or not. The Sunday lunches are super too.

First time visit to this pub, won't be the last as my eldest lives nearby. Great place.

I met friends here for Sunday lunch. The atmosphere was lovely & relaxed. The food was delicious and the staff really friendly & helpful. I really enjoyed my first visit and will definitely return as there are many other options I want to try from the menu. The roast lamb Sunday lunch was amazing!

Went for father's day and wasn't disappointed everything was perfect 👌 staff was friendly and very attentive. Food was excellent the roast dinner was like home cooked. Will definitely be back and will be recommending this place to friends

Pub grub nothing out of the ordinary. Poor selection of gluten free starters (croquettes which had before, nice but very filling, and sqid which I don't like). Mains nice but distinct lack of vegetables. Food came quickly and was hot. Friendly and nice pub.

Arrived at the Rose and Crown after 2 hours of driving and received a warm welcome and an easy explanation of food service and drinks. Staff were friendly and the service was quick, multiple checks by the staff to make sure everything was fine, fine dining service at reasonable prices. Highly recommended to visit the Rose and Crown in Writtle.

The atmosphere and staff were excellent and the food reasonably priced. Unfortunately the roast potatoes were very over cooked and hard, the chicken was just about cooked and whilst there was gravy on the plate it was tasteless. The food was tepid.

Nicely located pub on the green in Writtle on the outskirts of Chelmsford. Decent selection of beers and drinks. I'll say the menu is pretty formulaic, but then I say that of so many pubs. Service was efficient so worth the stop on the bike ride I was on. I'd go back but this pub isn't at the top of my list. It's decent/average or however we rate these things.

Absolutely fantastic little country pub, nothing was too much effort for the bar staff and they made us really feel at home. Would absolutely recommend and the food was very good, we had the Sunday roast, and it was excellent 👌🏻

Met up with family at half way point between us all and so pleased that they suggested Writtle. We were recommended to book at this pub and the food was excellent and really reasonably priced, the staff were attentive but not intrusive and very welcoming atmosphere. My husband and I said we would definitely visit again.

1st time at this pub to celebrate my daughters 18th birthday. I picked the rose and crown for the menu.the choice of gluten free food is amazing. She has ceoliac disease and we are always struggling to find nice food.this pub Will now be our go to place. Fantastic food lovely staff.very polite and attentive. Noce atmosphere. Enjoyed our day.

1st time visiting this pub, the staff extremely polite and helpful, they had a comprehensive menu and we enjoyed bar meal with drinks at less than £12 a head. There was busy and had a warm comfortable welcome, plenty of parking, defo worth stopping for a bite to eat.

First visit will certainly not be my last, great food, great reception and courteous staff.

We had a family reunion in the function room upstairs. Can't fault the staff at all, very attentive and helpful. Food was good, but the decor is getting old and tired. Still would I recommend The Rose and Crown. Yes I would.

Went for a late lunch on Saturday, quite a wide menu with pub classics you'd expect plus some specials, something for everyone. Food was quick and tasty, portions pretty big none of us finished our chips! Staff were all really friendly, we'll definitely be back soon even if it's just for a drink, perfect village pub. Big beer garden, plenty of tables so perfect with nice weather coming up (dog friendly in and out)

We were a party of 7 who didn't book for a lunch. Staff were very accomodating. Service was quick. Food delicious. I had swordfish in a mussel sauce. Altogether splendid.

Friendly arrival from the staff, and continued to look after us during our meal. We had the roast which was amazing and very reasonable priced. Definitely recommend the Mega Rose and Crown roast. We will definitely visit again to try breakfast and evening menu.

The best Sunday roast we have had - lived in Chelmsford 30 years and never visited !! Nicest waitresses and the best food at good prices . Was very grateful they do a pensioner size as well - my husband defiantly did not have !! Will now be a regular - if you we can get in !!

Very nice traditional pub. Had small fish, chips and peas and a coffee to follow. The fish (cod) was beautifully cooked and the whole meal very tasty. Lovely big cup of coffee to follow. Lovely friendly staff and locals 😁👍

Really great food and fairly priced. Drinks came to our table very quickly and the waitress even deducted the kid's pasta from the bill when she saw that our son hadn't had a single bite (no reflection on the taste or quality). Friendly staff, absolutely no complaints, have been recommending to everyone. Main meals we had: veggie lasagne, fish of the day (haddock) and chips, steak and stout pie and chips.

Went for a walk on the Hylands Estate and went on to this pub on a busy Saturday afternoon. Luckily, we found a table and the food was good.

Popped in for a quick lunch and what a surprise! Superb service and a lovely atmosphere on a Monday afternoon; the place was buzzing. A sensible menu provided an array of traditional pub grub that you need on a Winter's Day, and you do not come out of the place hungry! Sandwiches are huge and homemade pie very tasty. Great value, great service and we will pop into Writtle again....soon, just to go to the Rose and Crown!

Really nice atmosphere, obviously lots of regular customers.Good choices on the menu and food was served without too much delay despite the pub being busy.Thoroughly recommend the Chicken Casserole .My husband had Fish and Chips which he polished off and we rounded the meal off with Rice Pudding and a good dollop of jam. Very friendly staff ,who made us feel welcome.
