Steve's Fish Bar Takeaway & Diner in Derby

Had the cheese and onion fry it well that's what it said on the menu but it was tasteless supposed to be mushy peas more like slushy peas and the chips weren't up to much, second time I've been in Steve's diner and the last.

A beautiful infusion of flavour with a light spongy cream topping and chocolate mousse style filling cheesecake. Honeycomb ice cream scoop topped off and enhanced the luxury flavour. Definitely worth a try. It's called a hot chocolate cheesecake.

Amazing food as always! Can’t get a better fish and chips anywhere! Great service from Sarah. She’s always great especially with the kids when they come!

Top sit down fish shop! We all had the lunch time meal deal £10.50. Either fish or pie, with peas, bread and butter with tea. Superb quality and really great service. Parking round the back, very clean.

Had a chicken kebab it’s not the same as it used to be it was horrible had one bit and didn’t east any more.

Burnt fishcake and an idiot woman who thinks me asking for a small chips, fishcake and a small pot of curry sauce equals a curry mix..... If I wanted my chips soaking in curry I would of asked for that to begin with but she then copmes abck wioth the excuse that it's cheaper..... I didn't know Steves gave out finnacial advice and i certainly don't care about a 50p difference.

Great value for saying how much the competition have put their prices up recently.Freshly cooked to order will return

The portion size was huge, both had a kebab tray, delivered hot, perfect Uber Eats delivery, only disappointment was chips were not cooked and underdone, if we had fish and chips with those chips, would have been terrible

Too long to wait in so called resteruant. Ordered fish chips and peas plus some home made gravy. When it finally arrived NO GRAVY . How do you get such a small order wrong? Staff to busy yapping about private lives not paying attention to the order No social distancing observed tables to close. Very uncomfortable experience. Well food !! The only good was the fish crispy batter nice fish just over cooked a little slightly dry but good. The rest well just average. Order a take away.

I don't know if most of you remember back in the 70s and 80s where you would go to the chip shop as a child and get the scratching from the chip shop and pay nothing for them well this is how it was today it brought back memories but this time having to pay for them greasy fat chips

Steves is our local chippy but we feel very lucky it is as food is always great quality and the staff are friendly and helpful

not the best certainly in derby chips were horrible so was the fish sausages were cold .if u wanted other things fried good choice of pies and other items

Not only is it a takeaway, its a cafe! Fish and chips are always perfect and the sides are fresh and hot. Since most people probably go on about the hot food and main courses, the café's range of deserts is worth a mention. Lots of choices, available in vegan and Slimming World friendly options made by the staff and members of the community. Never once been disappointed with our visits.

What a discovery! We'll be back for sure. The place was fresh and clean, even the toilets were modern and sparkling. Although Steve told us that he had recently pared a few things off the menu, it had many items listed that made me want to make a return visit, especially the Greek dishes. Steve was very welcoming, and our fish dishes (sea bass and tuna) were delicious. Highly recommended. We will definitely be using his loyalty card.

Been here a few times .. the food is ok BUT the staff well that's another thing !!! absolutely disgusting the boss wants to sort them out and get rid of them !! we will not be going again just because of the crap service !!

20 minute wait for takeaway fish and chips. Nightmare, 4 staff on and I could have gone Tesco and made it myself quicker.

Visited here on and off for the last thirty years. The food is great but the staff have always left a bad taste in the mouth. They’ve always been consistently miserable and rude. Even in front of the boss. I don’t understand it, surely greeting customers with a friendly smile and pleasant demeanour are paramount when working with the public?

I visited Steve’s Fish Bar on 19th March at 18:40. I come here often for chips but tonight made me question returning. The way I was spoken to by the staff member taking orders was disgusting. She was wearing glasses and looked aged 60s. Everyone remembers their experience when visiting places and sure as hell influences their decision to go there again. I think they need to teach their staff some customer service skills.

Welcoming and helpful, providing special treatment for people with special diets. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff.

Had to wait about 10mins to be served . Only to be told no potato fritters . Had a cone of chips instead , which was good value for my money . Staff where pleasant

I used to come to Steve’s when I was on my lunch break and the jacket potatoes are the best in Derby!!!! Absolutely amazing! Wish I still worked nearby!!! But saying that I will be back, as they are that good it’s worth the trip up x

Yet again, excellent service, presentation, food and customer service. We all had the value meal, mini fish, chips, side, bread and butter with coffee, bargain at £6.99. Great service especially from Sarah 🙂

Steve's Fish Bar is conveniently located in Alston Derbyshire..easily accessable to anyone wishing to patronise the place. The food & service is good..it is good joint for a family to dine-in

Fish n chips to die for. The Greeks have a way of cooking fish and chips to perfection. Lovely taste, colour, only spoilt by not being in newspaper lol. A must treat. Batter on the fish and sausages is crispy tasty and compliments the fish and sausages. Chips are perfectly cut, tasteful and just a drop of vinegar and salt. Love this place.

This is a top tier chip shop. The quality of the food is great and the chips in particular are the best. They also have a small cafe attached which serves all their chip shop choices and more; the coffee is good and the cake comes with ice cream.

just found Steves its great. The restaurant is spotless the service is really good and then there is the food my wife had the lasagne which they offered extra cheese and it not only came with a very fresh salad but also chips. she keeps asking me when we can go back.I had the haddock it was great.

Went today to get some lunch,stood in the queue and shut the door as it was freezing instead of asking me to keep it open he says I’ll just f*****g sweat then,Carried on slagging me off to the other staff couldn’t believe the rudeness of the older black haired bloke who cooks the food,I used to rate these highly but the battered sausages are basically plain tinies bit of batter,very greasy will be avoiding in future and going to zan fish instead

I visited here recently looks like they’ve invested well, however the downside now to me is it’s all about profit over quality.

Fancied a quick bite today and called into Steve's Fish Bar. Went into the restaurant part as never been before. What a pleasant surprise. Service very good, polite and friendly. Well worth a visit.

When I took a mammoth bite into my fish, I felt a tingle. The flavours were amazing. I will be returning. Staff treated me like I was part of the family. Very Pleased 5*

So this one time I visited this here food establishment- and to be honest it was pretty good. I did see this guy Loukas so it worked out quite nice. 7.8/10 too much water

I felt that the second I walked in the place, did not have a good vibe. Instantly they started staring at me and making me feel unconfutable. After reading reviews 5 of us thought we were in for a fish and chip delight. We were wrong 3 chips and curry sauce 1 haddock and chips 1 pie and chips 3 drinks and 3 mayonnaise plus 3 extra curry sauce £20 )is in Gloucester 39 pounds in beer and half the size terribly disappointing end to great day in beer .We will not be eating there again

We visited here not so long ago. Food was awesome- as was the service. Well worth traveling up for! Home made fishcakes are awesome and far better than any I've had!!!

Hands up, I have to admit this is our regular chip shop and we generally visit once a week. As a family, we love that the chips are fresh, the fish is tasty and the kebabs are big enough for two. The staff are local and friendly, there is an option to take away or eat in their restaurant which is also very friendly and good for groups of all sizes (a local beaver group had a party there).

we ran a large order from work so couldnt see the food before choosing it, I had regular fish & chip meal with curry sauce which although it tasted alright was more like a kids portion (compared to other chippys like zanfish)

Used to visit a lot Then 2 weeks on the trot ended up throwing up under cooked chips and a dodge pie. Put me off Still visit but not to often now. Clean with friendly staff. Not the best in Derby but OK

This is a good "chippie". You get a reasonable portion, the price is fair and they're generally pretty fresh. I can't gripe about it! I've never been disappointed.

Great food, fresh and well presented, I have selected many dishes from the menu at various times and everything tastes wonderful. The food is always piping hot and the service is brilliant. The diner is always spotless. Great place to eat.

Went to Steves after work and tried the jumbo battered sausage, chips and a gravy....

What more could you ask for.... my first visit, but definitely not my last. Very clean and fresh, super friendly staff giving great service even at a busy time. Food was timely and very good. Derby is 100 miles from the see but the fish was so fresh could of been at the seaside. Well done to Steve and his staff for a great place to eat.

My partner is from Derby and he always says this is the place to go for fish and chips! I have to say very impressed with the fish and chips from here! We live near the sea, not far from Cornwall and these were almost as good as we get at home! Also had my first taste of a potato fritter as never seen or heard of one before and got to say it was all very yummy! Bravo!

Called into Derby to collect my car and as it was late on we decided to get some fish and chips and was told about steves by someone I work with. I had fish chips and peas, my partner had mini fish chips and peas and our daughter had home made fish cake and chips . All I can say is best I have ever had. All cooked to perfection no complaints from any of us, so with all my reviews give it a go and try from yourself you won't be disappointed

Stopped off here after a football match - has lovely food and the curry is boss! Archie is the best 👍

Visited this place on the way back from giving Derby County a beating in the EFL Cup, got a fishcake which was really nice and the staff there especially Archie were great. If you've heard otherwise it's probably off some weird fella who hangs around and doesn't even buy anything and gives bad reviews.

Steve's fish bar in my opinion is the number one in Derby. The fish is always large and cooked freshly and also the chips are a good size and plenty of them. You can also sit inside the fish bar and order just like the sea side cafe's. Well worth a visit. The staff are also very helpful and friendly. We wouldn't go anywhere else.

I have been here for my chips a few times and I am just about getting annoyed. I am paying £2 for a regular bag of chips - which you would expect to go round 3 people. I have just bought a regular bag and opened them at home and I cannot believe what I am seeing. There is only enough chips to fill a "cone of chips". It is getting beyond a joke. I have noticed that some staff give the reasonable amount for the price - but other staff are really starting to pi** me off.

I love this chippy, food is always hot and staff are always friendly, my only little problem is that I can wait up to 15 minutes somedays to get my food due to the massive line in takeaway, it must mean that this place is obviously the place to go for good chips! But it is a little slow sometimes

Best Fish and chips in Alvadton Derby. Pop in after a dance class and the staff are always cheerful and helpful. The food is always pipping got.

Steves has been here for years and years and years. It's good to see that business is good. There are loads of new staff and the shop next door has been turned into a sit down restaurant.

This is the only Fish & Chip shop I will go to in Derby. By far the best in Derbyshire. This is eating at it's best. The fish is always white inside and the batter is always crunchy. Chips are to die for. Great for a one time visit or a regular Friday night.

Had a great service and a fantastic meal from the team at Steve's Fish Bar. The chicken starter was amazingly tasty and a good portion size too. The plaice was perfectly cooked and served with great tasting chips and a pot of delicious mushy peas.

We have used Steve's takeaway for many years and have always found that a high standard has always been maintained. I tried the restaurant which has recently opened adjacent to the takeaway, and found a refreshing pleasant atmosphere where I enjoyed a lunchtime value meal of mini fish (not that mini?), chips, choice of peas/beans/sauce with bread & butter and tea/coffee for £5.99. Excellent value. So six of us went and they also really enjoyed it, one having a pie instead of fish. Good value for money from friendly and competent staff. We will definitely visit again.

Needed to grab a quick bite to eat whilst out and about. Steves Fish Bar has always been a good choice for take away Fish and chips but recently have purchased the property next door and turned it into a sit down eatery. So not wanting to eat my dinner in the car I opted to try the new eating area. Its a really nice modern feel and definitely not a greasy spoon environment. I had the value fish and chips meal for £5.99 which included - mini Fish, Chips, Mushy peas, Bread and Butter, and a pot of Tea for one. My son had Chicken Burger, Chips and Salad and a Sprite, think his was £5.50. Food was freshly cooked as it was very hot, it was all very good quality. Service was prompt with drinks coming straight away and food within 5 mins. A nice touch for a tight git like me is that they bring you sauces of your choice for no extra charge. It does gripe me when they normally charge 20p for a dollop of sauce. There is a customer toilet which was clean and there is also ample free parking at the back.
