Gerard Street Fish Bar in Derby

I called in on a Sunday for fish n chips for the family. My nephew, who has Down's Syndrome, came with me. The staff were excellent with him. He read out the order, they checked it with him and me and also gave him a free drink to have whilst we waited for our food to be cooked. The food was really tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meal.

We moved to Sheffield from derby and we visited this chip shop today. This was our local fish bar since early 2000s. This is still the best chip shop. In fact, ive not come across and fish/chip bar in sheffield as good as Gérard street fish bar.....keep up the good work guys. Dont let any negativity feedback effect you.

An absolutely amazing place! Friendly staff, efficient service and fantastic food! The atmosphere is brilliant. This was our local chippie before we moved city but everytime we visit Derby, we try to stop in here for a bite to eat before our trip home.

Chicken nuggets and chips, taste nice and fishcake on top of it taste so nice and we go back again and order again. I love the food from there. You need to try the fish bar taste nice

Ordered a large try of chicken meat and when I got home only did I realise they gave me all hard burnt bits it tasted like charcoal!

They serve super delicious fish.

I have been going here for over 30 years. The food is always first class but recently the portion sizes are getting smaller and smaller. I had Chicken meat and chips on the 30th September, the portion size hardly filled half of the box. I shouldn't really have to have 3 slices of bread and butter with it, especially when the meal cost me £6-50.

I have used Gerrard Street fish and chip shop on quite a few occasions. And every time the food as been excellent and the service exemplary. Long may Gerrard street continue.

I bought chips quite cold 2 battered sausage ok and 2 potato fritters cold and like leather have had fritters before some ok some undercooked but today's was ineadable

This chippy is just the absolute pits.We had a tray of chips on friday night costing £2 for around 11 chips that were of all sizes and some were tiny rock hard sticks,others were flat and small and the rest were so soaked in fat and white and soggy like dead albino slugs.All were such class z potatoes and had black blobs and horrible 'eyes' so the potatoes hadn't been peeled properly.Stopped going years ago because it was a dump and served inedible food but someone said it had changed and the chips were lovely.Well they must be fond of a treat..not..dread to imagine what an actual cod would look or taste like.You cant make a silk purse from a pigs ear so avoid at all costs.

If you live in Derby then you most definitely will have visited Gerard Street Fish Bar and if you haven't then it is a must!! This place is a true family run business and has been around for over 40 years and in my opinion is a staple of Derby. Fish is always fresh and chips are always hot and crispy. Every time i visit i'm always greeted politely and with a smile. Definitely recommend for a great place to get your chippy fix!!

Maybe just bad timing on going but not the best food. Some of it was cold and i think a little expensive for quality of food.

The food was alright, not the best. Chips were rushed and not what you want from a chippy, peas greatly watered down too.

If you live in Derby then Gerard street fish bar is a must. Great food just how a traditional fish and chip shop should be, hot and tasty. Friendly staff always clean and pleasant atmosphere. Definitely recommend a visit if not there's a delivery option too!

Fish (cod) very nice, wasn't too much batter like most chippy's do. Chips slightly under done so couldn't eat them all, but enough fill a man's gut lol. Very nice staff too. Almost perfect chippy, which for me is hard to come by.

Have Been Going To Gerald St Chip Shop For Many Years And What Used To Appeal To Us Was When You Ordered A Large Chips You Got A Large Chips 1 Bag Would Fill 4 Dinner plates. So Was Worth Paying That Little Extra. But Was Really Disappointed Today. Ordered A Large Chips Along With Other Sides. For The Price Of £3.60p For The Chips It Was Barely Enough For 1 Person. Unfortunately Won't Be Going Again Which Is A Shame As The 2 Brothers Have Always Been So Friendly Over The Years ☹

This is a super chippy,had mini fish chips and peas , amazing portions ,the best fish in light batter we have had from a chip shop ,lovely chips ,friendly staff great service , will keep on coming here .

We had chips, chicken and mushroom pies with mushy peas chips hot pies cold not even seen heat and watery peas with no taste of peas in sight bloody horrible had to throw peas,pies away what a waste of money £10 for 2 meals

Me and my daughter had food from here, few hours down the line, my daughter is constantly throwing up, complaining her belly is hurting. Hours have gone by and shes still the same and then the diahreaa started for my daughter and myself. Highly recommend to avoid!

I'm no doubt preaching to the converted but for anyone who hasn't ordered from here you are genuinely missing out. Generous portions, lighting fast service, great quality fish, friendly staff, and most importantly consistently fantastic food. I'll be moving soon and this place will almost certainly be one of the very few things I'll miss about living in Derby.

Tried it for the first time on Friday. Good fish and chips. Good sized piece of cod, generous chips, tasty, cooked just right and oil was fresh. I’ll make this my regular!

Cheese burgers were big and tasty. The chips were a let down though. There were more hard ones and small pieces than good ones.

Ordered meal on Friday 6 Aug, never arrived. Rang Gerrard Stret Fish Bar, told order had been cancelled as no drivers. Money paid by card not refunded, even though they said they would. Still trying to get answer. Not impressed, 1 star too much

Went here a few weeks ago and still shocked at how rude the chef was when I returned the over fried dry tasteless chicken it was disgusting and burnt and he had the cheek to fold his arms and say" where are you from? There's nothing wrong with my chicken!" I'm still not sure what difference where I was from made? The chips where nice though but I my friends battered sausage was rough! I wouldn't go back

I'm normally really happy with this chippy and it's lovely food, however yesterday night I was extremely disappointed. The mini fish was covered in silver skin under the batter, didn't taste right and had an extremely off putting smell. The kebab was uneatable, the kebab meat was white and cold and rusk like texture and almost see through. It was cold and disgusting and I ate the salad only. Very disappointed with this as it's normally spot on, meat is supposed to be brown not white and freezing.

Best Fish and Chip shop in England, the portion sizes recently got smaller but it's a family run business you really can't go wrong and definitely reccomend if your in the area.

I think there is something wrong with the oil. Tastes like it was fried in petrol. Had one bite of fish and about 4 chips. cant eat anymore. Very poor

Wasn't impressed with keeping me and my 2 friends to wait without ever being served. Only 2 staff working uber just eat and other delivery services being prioritised. Customers being ignored. I shouldn't really give them one star. Waiting nearly 30 minutes without ever getting served we gave up and walked out. Found a much better chippy and cheaper on Kedleston rd Derby and the staff was welcoming. Never going back. Personally they score nil stars

I Cannot fault Gérard Street Fish Bar. I have known them for years. My only criticism is that they could get a better quality of kibab meat.

Just ordered three meals. Food was lukewarm, bland, no vinegar. Chips dry and card boardy and couldn't eat kebabs. Quick delivery but overpriced for low quality.

Food arrived 45 minutes late and I had called at 30 minutes late to be told it was out for delivery. It's a 4 minute drive and there wasn't any traffic. I sincerely hope this was somehow the fault of the just eat delivery person and not the chippy having me on.

Fish was ok but chips dry and cardboardy, loads of them but wasted as I couldn't eat them. Asked for lots of salt and vinegar but couldn't taste either. Disappointing considering the star rating.

They take card and are mostly halal this makes them stand out among other fish bars. Also, food quality is very high and provides the authentic taste of a classic chippy

I've been coming here for over 20 years, since the boys took over the place has got even better! The variety of choice, the quality of food, the excellent friendly service. I've never had a bad takeaway from here. The ONLY place I'd ever get a fish and chips from in Derby.
