I went here whilst on a weekend trip to the area. Lots of wonderful books that can be purchased alongside pots of tea and huge great slices of lovely cake - I couldn't really ask for more! really nice staff too. I would go here again

Busy, sunny Saturday afternoon. Stopped here by chance. Spent half an hour watching the world go by. Great interior. Friendly staff. Excellent coffee.

Still the best coffee in Folkestone. I hadn't been for a year having returned to live in Ireland. In a previous review I had commented on the card board croissants; sadly no change there. Also sadly some customers selfishly take the piss by using the place as an office.In Northern Ireland where I now reside the more popular coffee shops have table notices restricting occupancy to 60 minutes. Generally makes sense. But as I said above still the best coffee in Folkestone. Gerry Milligan

Four of us went for mid morning, mid week coffee and cake and loved the relaxed atmosphere. While the coffee wasn’t to my liking, the cakes were heaven sent. We shared a brownie, peanut butter and something bar, and quite possibly the best banana bread I’ve ever eaten (toasted with butter). I wish we lived closer but then my waistline would suffer as I don’t think I could resist those tasty treats!

Such poor attitude and service . I popped in this morning at 8.25am for a croissant as the door was open and all the delicious croissants were out on display - thought great but oh NO greeted by surly assistant, "we are closed you can't have anything" I pointed out as the door was open and food out could I grab a croissant? NO . What is the problem with people ,I wanted to give a business money and they refused it - what is going on !! Very disappointing I really try to support local businesses - next time I'll go to the supermarket!!

Best coffee cake I’ve tasted. Fantastic quiche and The coffee was superb and the lady who served us outside was adorable.

A good sign that all of the tables in double fronted property were full. Well worth the wait for excellent coffee, good portions of cake, dog friendly establishment and very friendly and efficient service. Good vibe with nice decor which consisted of shelves of books, unique.

We met family for a lovely coffee recently and they had a great selection of alternative milks. There is a great atmosphere with walls full of books. We liked it so much we went back the next day for coffee and cake which was delicious and portions were very generous! Would definitely recommend

We went again to Steep Street Coffee House today and were lucky enough to get a table in this small and very popular cafe. We both enjoyed our lunch, a bagel and a croissant for my partner and I, but the cake that followed; I'm almost speechless. If you wondered about the pumpkin spiced latte cake wonder no more; it's moist, flavoursome and beautifully light. Possibly one of the best slices of cake I've eaten (I've eaten a lot) and would definitely recommend it. Very generous slices too!! As for the dog, he was very welcome and made himself at home!

Staff are super friendly, we came here 3 times in a weekend for coffee and cake and everything was brilliant. Staff are all wearing PPE which made it feel covid secure. They have vegan options and savoury food as well and both indoor and outdoor seating on the charming Old High St

Its a coffee shop, on steep street, a street in Folkestone that is steep, and it is rather good. A few socially distant tables inside and a long arm of orange furniture stretching up the hill. Order coffee from the counter and choose cake (don't think it matters which one, they all look full of yum) I went for banana bread with warm honey, and everything is brought to you. Track and trace details are done by individual forms, put in a box, a great way to protect personal data and the staff a friendly and helpful.

Came in for my lunch break today, I had a Brie and bacon baguette and a mini ham and cheese quiche.... Absolutely beautiful! Lovely lunch, perfect considering I had to return to work. I was served by the lovely lady with brown/blonde curly hair, whose service is impeccable. Beautiful place with wonderful staff. Very happy ❤️

This is our granddaughter's favourite coffee shop so we love to come as a family. The amazing fresh cakes are why we always come back. I saw there is the option for contactless ordering if you wanted to, or alternatively you can order at the counter with social distancing which is good to see.

Not only is their coffee delicious but theh also do Refined sugar free bliss balls!!!! Will be going back for sure

I visited here with a couple of friends one Saturday afternoon for a hot chocolate and cake. There is a wide selection of drinks and cakes available which all sounded delicious. I went for a nutty hot chocolate and an apple crumble cake which was lovely. The decor is great and I couldn't believe all the books were real! The coffee shop is always busy so can sometimes struggle to find a seat, but if you don't mind waiting around for a short while then it is worth the wait.

This excellent cafe is now a firm favourite since it opened. Full of books (which you can buy) it provides delicious cakes, croissants and sandwiches. Coffee, teas, juices. Free WiFi. Perfect place for a business meeting, but it is extremely popular so sometimes tables are not available. Very friendly staff.

Enjoyed breakfast at this quirky cafe. Lovely home made banana bread served warm with honey, homemade crumpets served with butter and because it was there apple and cinnamon flap Jack. All were delicious. Cappacino was delicious too. Walls are floor to ceiling books that you can enjoy reading whilst you eat and relax. Really enjoyed our visit

I have visited Steep Street on many occasions as it is the perfect place to meet a friend for a coffee and maybe some delicious cake. The service is always polite, friendly and efficient. The library’s worth of books on the shelves make for a quiet and comfy atmosphere.

Steep Street Coffee House is near the top of the cobbled Old High Street, and it is rapidly becoming our favourite! Full of old books,which you can buy and tempting home made cakes greet/tempt you as you enter. Always a hive of activity but worth waiting for a table. Two rooms plus seating outside (weather permitting!) Gorgeous coffee ( all types), plenty of choice of food and very friendly and helpful staff. A great atmosphere that draws us here, time and again.

It might be called Steep Street, but having been born less than a quarter of a mile away it's still High Street to me.

Took a stroll down the aptly named steep street. I was on crutches so it can be done. Able bodied will just get a small workout. Almost half way down, the ideal pit stop for coffee and a shared chunk of chocolate orange cake. Had a little read of a book written in 1941 entitled 'men who cry'. Essentially, it was about pacifists at the start of world war 2. Could have sat in here for twice as long. Nice staff who make an effort to look like they don't hate working there. Maybe it is a decent place to work as well? Cappuccino was the best I have tasted in a while. Highly, highly recommended.

I loved this coffee house. Loved the ambience especially all the books, the tea was excellent and came in a pot. The cake tasted delicious.

Everything a cafe should have - lovely coffees, homemade food and super atmosphere - we went for morning coffee and returned for lunch - superb!

Visited recently for a little lunch, and had cake and a drink each. Their carrot cake was amazing! Massive slices too, I struggled to finish mine. Staff were friendly, good choice of foods, drinks and cakes. Will be back!

We have been visiting this coffee house since it opened some years back. It is always good and excellent service and most important to us, the coffee is excellent. It’s busy, so you have to be patient to get a table sometimes but it’s well worth it.

Lovely little coffee house and well worth the visit. Cost is similar to what you would pay at a mainstream coffee shop, but still good quality food and latté. Would definitely recommend this place as the latté was lovely and smooth.

I've visited a few times, and on each occasion the food has been good and the service really friendly. There are plenty of vegan/vegetarian options, and the coffee is always good (which is very important!). Probably my favourite cafe in folkestone :)

My friend and I visited here a week ago for lunch and found the food to be really wholesome and delicious, we chose a vegetable quiche and a veg wrap and shared, lovely! The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was lovely, we will definitely be repeating our visit.

An absolute staple in the old high street. We love this place, they make a mean hot chocolate and their cakes are superb. Honestly, I could write about the cakes alone for a while, my partner can't go in here without trying a slice of whichever takes his fancy (they change regularly, current favourite is the blueberry and vanilla).

Small but perfectly positioned, great coffee made from the bean and cake selection of wonder. Book lined walls, ambient music, a "cool" place for an old fogey like me (and the wife!!)

Find a comfy seat among the bookshelves, or perch in the window and watch the procession of visitors to the boutiques and galleries in the Old High Street. Whatever your preference, it’s a great place to oause, catch up with friends - and catch your breath. After all, it is a very steep street!

An amazing range of food, particularly cakes, all prepared and cooked on the premises. With friendly and courteus staff this is a must visit cafe if you are in the area.

We bought a few cakes here, and they were all amazing! Staff are friendly, coffee is good - it slightly suffers from it's own popularity as it's hard to find a seat!

Highly recommended. We enjoy the atmosphere and the coffee and cakes are excellent. Only down side are the customers who spread themselves out with their laptops and take up a whole table. That's ok when it's quiet but they continue to do so, even when there are no vacant tables left.

Although access is via as it's name suggests a steep street, the old High Street, it's worth it and judging by it's popularity it's worth it. This is how to run a successful coffee shop and more and really sets the standard! What's more I can always find an interesting book, if I'm not with company!

Nice place, bit more expensive than you'd expect but often quite busy as you get people working on their laptops hogging the tables. Crazy why the management let's this happen! Last time there I saw 1 guy working on his laptop who appeared to just have 1 coffee take up a whole 4 person table. He looked bedded in for the whole day.

Saturday morning exploring the delights of the harbour and stumbled across Steep Street it was full but we spotted a table getting ready to leave so jumped at a chance to sample the coffee and beautiful home made cakes

Dropped in this afternoon for an opportunistic coffee & was very impressed with the atmosphere & decor. The place was busy but not too overcrowded and we were able to grab a table inside in short order.

This is one of the best quality coffee shops in Folkestone. Always busy but relaxed. Good coffee but also do wine. Light lunches are good but cakes made locally are superb. Sometimes hit and miss with friendly welcome.

The quality of coffee in this cafe on the Old High Street was very good and I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to coffee! Very cosy and warm with excellent decor and walls lined with books. Highly recommended.

First visit on Monday, 21 January 2019. Kaira and I had a remote working day and decided to link to the WiFi and work from this well laid out and beautifully quaint establishment. It was fairly busy for most of the day and peaked around 12.30pm.

With great coffees and yummy cakes, but most importantly for me, the perfect decor and atmosphere - it’s definitely the best coffee house in Folkestone. Fairtrade coffees and teas which makes it more perfect. Could sit in there for a nice chat or just to read.

Quirky with books floor to ceiling. Have just had excellent coffee and cake on previous visits. This time lunch. One of the most delicious quiches I have had and the baguette panini was similarly great

Love this place just a shame it isn't a bit bigger. The lunch time snacks are always very tasty with fresh ingredients.

After a few hard days I felt a treat was in order so dog in tow headed to Steep Street for some cake. Placed our order and found a space but I got a couple of black looks from the couple on the adjacent table. Gorgeous coffee and cake arrived but the icy atmosphere kept growing. The people on the next table eventually became very loud, rude and aggressive to me about my dog who was being very good. To my amazement the staff totally stood up for us. The others finished and left and the staff came over and apologised for them, when obviously they couldn't have predicted that. I suffer from social anxiety and my dog is usually a good bridge between people. The kindness of the staff really warmed my heart, and I will be back there soon.

We visited as a family group. The vegan options were great. When the music was turned down at our request so we could talk without raised voices this place was perfect. A good brew and raspberry bakewell cake..wishing I was eating it again now. Bliss.

Don't be fooled if the cafe looks full, it has more tables and chairs inside up the stairs. Choose a table and order your food at the counter. I had a very delicious quiche and coffee surrounded by books, some of which are available to buy.

Nice pot of tea with oat milk as well as a gorgeous vegan wrap which I'd definitely recommend- been here every time we have visited Folkstone, we hope to see more vegan cake when coming back in the new year :D

Never had a bad experience here. Cakes are amazing. Service spot on and the atmosphere is great. Really enjoyed raspberry and almond bakewell cake.

This is a great place to get a coffee and cake. The slices are a good size and the coffee is perfect for my taste. It can sometimes be difficult to get a table because it is so popular but I enjoy coming back here each time I visit Folkestone.

We were exploring Folkestone for our first visit there . We found this delightful cafe. Lovely coffee and excellent choise of cakes. If we lived nearer i would be in there often . I do recommend it .

Bakewell tart flavoured sponge cake. I didn't know it existed but I want it everyday. It was probably the best cake ever. And the coffee wasn't too shabby either!

Stopped by Steep Street Cafe for a Hot Chocolate and Carrott Cake with my 4 yr old daughter. Ordered my drink and cake then my little girl told the lady behind counter.

My wife and I visited today for the first time. It’s a delightful tearoom with a large selection of eats and drinks. Our coffee was excellent. It’s very modern and caters more for healthy eating. We will definitely be returning.

This coffee house is just stunning, the coffee and cake was amazing. The staff were so lovely and very polite. The cakes have a great selection including gluten free and vegan. The coffee is one of the best I’ve had. The coffee house is also dog friendly. Would highly recommend to any coffee or cake lovers.

Visited here today and had the most fantastic time. The place has a fantastic atmosphere and the owners are great. It’s a busy little place and the coffee is amazing. I had the peanut butter bar which was gluten free but there was lots of gluten free and vegan options too. What makes the place even better is its dog friendly. 100% recommended and will be the highlight of your trip to Folkestone. We will definitely be going back very soon!!

This is truly a hidden gem! I was studying abroad in London this summer and took a trip to Kent for the weekend with my program, and ended up staying in Folkestone for the weekend. My friends and I stumbled upon this coffee house and went three times in the 2 days we had. They have the best almond croissant I've ever had, the coffee was amazing (I even brought a bag of grounds back to New Jersey with me), the atmosphere was so inviting, and the staff incredibly friendly. Wish I could go back here all the time! My favorite coffee place I will hopefully one day get back to.

This must be the best coffee house in a 30 mile radius because I haven't found anywhere in the locality or Ashford or Canterbury to better it. The flat white coffee is quite brilliant and perfect in taste and texture. They are very particular about the blends they use and how to top a coffee. The cakes all look delicious too. Located at the top of Folkestone's Old High Street the décor is books and shelves of books and then more books. A perfect way to spend a few hours as many others were doing.
