Updated review-it's still a great place to enjoy a tasty steak! The chips and onion rings were top notch and I loved the fact that they make their own ice tea and serve it by the pint. Perfect for those of us who drive over! Great place-informal set up and simple but delicious steaks. I was delighted with my meal and am looking for a reason to go back (it's a 2 hour drive so not exactly close to us!) Highly recommend

Yes it's a steak barn, a bit basic but the food is excellent. My medium rare sirloin was perfectly cooked and my wife's large burger was well cooked too with a good crust. Sides and sauces were expensive to add one. Great chips too!!

This was always our go to place for burgers and steaks but after 3 poor experiences (I really have given them benefit of the doubt), I felt compelled to write this review. Our last few visits have been distinctly average - burnt burgers and lukewarm chips. As a farming family, we love the fact that they butcher their own meat, but to have it presented so burnt that it crumbles like coal in your mouth - what a waste! All the burger this time were like this - we were not the only table sending them back. How hard it is to cook a burger? The replacement burger did arrive quickly and was delicious, as I remember from the better days. But that’s not the point, with young kids, we don’t have time to wait for the food to be cooked a second time - it should arrive this way first time round. I give up - from now on, I will buy the burgers from their butcher and cook them at home. Such a shame.

Difficult one this. The steak is excellent and we would definitely go back for that. However, we had a couple of mussel starters which were off. Anybody should know, particularly if they work in a kitchen, you don't send out plates of unopened mussels. You could make someone extremely ill. It is just dangerous!

Ask for steak medium, came well done. Sent it back, it was returned saying that the chef said that the thick end was medium the rest was over cooked!!! There was about an inch of it medium. Not happy with outcome albeit the part which was medium tasted good the rest dry and overcooked. Asked for dessert menu, after 15 minutes of waiting with not a server in sight found someone to ask for the bill. Overall very disappointed with the meal and service. Won’t be hurrying back any time soon 😩😩

Steak…fantastic. Wine…very nice. Customer service experience...very poor. There’s lots of random milling about by the waiting staff, but we weren’t in a hurry…so not a biggie. Once taken, our order was full of errors though…1 pepper sauce appeared, instead of 2, missing drinks, and the cheese we’d ordered for a kids burger was notably absent. Not a problem if resolved quickly…but, instead of asking for the cheese, I must have accidentally requested the moon on a stick. Eventually, after initially being told cheese wasn’t an option anymore, then some teen side eye, we managed to get a piece of cheese (it’s an extra on the menu, so not sure what the problem was…at £2.50 a slice, I’d have thought they’d be delighted to sell some). In the end, we ended up with (and paid for) 5 pepper sauces (not even close to 2) and never did see that drink. I don’t blame the team…this is poor training and they need a leader. Two of the staff we met were friendly and helpful. The location is great, the food is pricey, but delicious…the steak is exceptional. With a lot less sass (and a bit less sauce) this would have been a positive review.

The atmosphere was the real winner here. The idea of having a steak restaurant in a nice rugged barn is truly fascinating and it's a wonderful experience to have. But, with that being said, I wasn't too pleased with the steaks. They didn't really differ from anything I'd cook at home. I had the 8oz fillet steak for £31.95 I expected a great wonderful steak with amazing sides but I was greeted with something that was a bit underwhelming. That's not to say it wasn't good, it was wonderful but, not really what I was looking for, for the price. There was one American girl that served us half way through the experience and she was wonderful and pleasant. The first server seemed a bit aggravated although I don't blame her as you never know what the staff could've been dealing with prior. Overall a good experience though, next time I'd order something a bit less pricey as the dish never gave as much oomphf as I'd hoped.

Smoked haddock fish cake with bearnaise sauce was super delicious, almost licked the plate. Burgers were ok, not amazing. Add on bacon was super salty which made the whole burger very salty. The burger didn’t have any sauce, onions were even not on add ons. What disappointed us was the fact that we saw other tables getting mussels that were not on the menu, when we asked a waitress about the mussels she said “we had them on the special menu yesterday, but we don’t do them today”. Was quite excited running across this steak house near St Andrews (Fife), and heard good things from relatives living near-by so decided to try it for myself. Great set up, atmospheric, slightly wood smoked air (but well ventilated) promised so much...... Unfortunately despite ordering the best cut (fillet) the steak was fatty and I had to trim and unfortunately chew for ages another piece. Polite staff but didn't seem overly concerned about thier steak being somewhat less quality than expected. Saying this, it was seasoned and cooked very well, just a shame about the fat. Overall worth a visit, just be aware its pricey for the quality of meat and little staff interest if you have an issue - thats my personal experience on my visit.

It was my first time eating here after hearing lots of good things about it & it certainly did not disappoint. A must for all steak lovers - the meat is well cooked, and there is a great selection of cuts. We opted for the chateaubriand. Seated in a cosy barn with big wooden tables, so you end up sharing a table with other guests but this wasn't really a problem as majority of people are there for a good feed not a private dining experience. For a group of 5 it costs us around £380 which was including a bottle of wine, our drinks during the evening & some desserts. Do not get me wrong when I say food has been outstanding in the past but from where we sat I’m glad I didn’t see the poor hygiene practices of the kitchen staff. Tongues dropped on floor then used without cleaning and hand towels being thrown onto the grill to dispose off. I’m sure this is in contravention of environmental health practices! Visited a couple times with no issues before apart from a slight wait for our food, which I can understand when busy and made fresh. However, this experience fell short. The first issue was having to flag down a waitress to take our order, then subsequently waiting almost an hour to get our food (despite getting there early and it not being busy when we placed the order). My meal was average with hard inedible chips, nothing to rave about. However my partners £30 fillet steak arrived cold and dry accompanied by similar chips to mine. Again, flagged down a waitress to let them know the issue and was told they would make a new one, that was much appreciated. After another 15 minutes the new steak arrived which was cooked perfectly and hot like it should be. We felt like the main issue was the wait staff’s lack of attentiveness, they never once came over to check on the remade steak or if we wanted any more drinks. A very weak apology and no follow up led us to consider not coming back. It is a real shame as the chefs seem to do everything right but it is ruined by inexperienced wait staff.

Great place to go for excellent steak. The meat is from their very own onsite butchers, so as fresh as you can get. They also serve sausages and lamb with chips, salad, onion rings, etc. The barn is what it is, so in the colder months (we went in January), it can be a bit chilly, but they do have a large heater that does bring the temp up when it's been on for a while. Overall, it's a great place to go if you're into your steaks. Unfortunately, there are no dogs allowed in the barn. Also, they only take reservations when st Andrews University graduation is on. Otherwise, you just turn up.

Then after waiting ages we finally got our food and finished, waited ages once again to pay, by this time it was almost 10pm and everyone had gone including the kitchen staff because the till wasn't working. Joanne, the manager, was quite abrupt as if it was our fault the till wasn't working and didn't have £180 in cash to pay, asked us to write down our credit card details on a piece of paper because of their problem! We kindly offered to return the following day to make our payment, and being honest people we turned up and had to wait. To top it off Joanne didn't have the decency to come out for us to pay. The bill was put through IN FULL with no goodwill gesture of deduction from it, the even asked us if we wanted to pay gratuity on top! The least they could have done was knock a bit off our bill and thanked us for coming back. It has all left a bad taste in our mouths after previously nice food.

My first visit was a week ago. I was very impressed with the place and the use of this building. What a novelty. The food was brilliant and the steak exceptional!!

Friday evening 6:30 PM was able to sit down immediately. Excellent atmosphere in this barn, which is warm and inviting with the open kitchen and Wood fired Grill. Started with the cauliflower, have the 8 ounce fillet with Parmesan truffle fries, and peppercorn sauce, sirloin steak with the cooked tomatoes and also the vegetarian burger with chickpeas. The food came out quickly, and all had a great flavor cooked perfectly. I highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be back again.

Great place to grab a steak at a very reasonable price. Would've scored 5 for food except that we ordered 1 medium rare and 1 medium fillet steak and the calamari wasn't crispy. The medium fillet was slightly more medium well but was still delicious. The service was again great, except I ordered a lager initially and again for a second drink. However, a pale ale was delivered, I drank it as I'm not too fussed, but this small detail in the service would've made the 5 stars.

We knew you couldn’t make a reservation so we risked going Saturday night and were told approximately 40/45 min wait which was well worth it. Bar set up was a bit weird you order your drink, pay for it and then you wait to be called to collect your drink. I assume it works for them but thought it was a bit weird. The restaurant is in a barn, it was cosy and warm once inside but waiting outside for 45 mins was pretty cold. It was mega busy, big groups including lots of young kids obviously a very popular spot for locals. The wait for the food wasn’t too long and it was amazing. Food cooked to perfection. The service was very good too, all staff were friendly. The desserts were freshly made and yummy we shared the strawberry tart and was big enough. Plenty parking and only 5 min drive from St Andrews. Well worth a visit.

You dining in a large barn, so the atmosphere is a bit lacking, but it's also a nice change from the norm. Steaks and burgers are excellent. Cooked to perfection and tasted fantastic. Service is ok. Warning on some charges…You are charged extra for sauce for the steak - £10 (x4) for peppercorn sauce, which is a bit steep. And an eye-watering charge for a large glass of standard white wine at £13.10 – shockingly expensive.

The perfect end to the perfect day! We came here on our way back from St. Andrew’s! We managed to have a drink outside while we waited to be seated inside. The staff, atmosphere and food was great. I highly recommend

Had table Booked for pre theatre meal for five people. Waitress gave us a list of a lot of items on the menu that were not available. This included Nachos, salad and quite a few other items. 4 people had come specifically for the Nachos. Had to order other items instead. Two people wanted a sweet. Despite us having finished our mains and waiting for service, we finally had to call over the Waitress. She then advised us that only 3 choices of sweet were available, one being vanilla ice cream. Regarding soft drinks, one on menu not available so had to choose something else. Another person wanted ginger beer but they only had two cans in stock. Now I can fully understand that perhaps one or two items on the menu may not be available but this was ridiculous. We had no time to leave to find another restaurant. We certainly won't be returning.
