Not the cleanest. Bathroom shower head & hose were filthy. Mould round shower door & seal at the bottom of shower door was dirty. Supposed to stay 2 nights but stayed one. Bedding was clean. Bedroom window frame needed a good clean.

Stayed here via booking.com as doingvthe C2C bike ride. Went to bed early due to a long day riding & being shattered & then dismayed to repeatedly hear the repeated spin cycle of a washing machine in the room above mine, and constant footsteps around same. The curtains are less than useless at keeping out the light from outside , & the Roman blind only pulls to half way down the window. Seriously thinking about checking out now & continuing the Day 2 ride a Ross the North Pennines. Its 00.39 a.m as I write this. The restaurant was not available on the evening of my stay due to abplumbing problem. Not Impressed at all.

Excellent gentleman was running the show. Once we were left stranded because of the train strikes, an extra night in the room was arranged with a reasonable price. Rooms may be bit dated, but did not bother us.

This was my first time visiting this hotel. This hotel is literally 2 min from the train station and coach drop off points. I was impressed with the warm hospitality of the staff who checked me in. My room was a Single Room located on the first floor. The only thing I did not like was the exclusion of a lift so the only way of getting to my room was via a flight of stairs. My single bed was very comfortable and I slept very well. OMG! What a awesome shower. The staff were very helpful and did offer me help with my suite case. This hotel is so nice and friendly that it more than makes up for not having a lift. The bar was very friendly and served awesome Guinness. I have booked again the family room and double room. Can't wait to visit here again.

We were very impressed with the friendly and welcoming staff. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Although the bathroom could have done with modernising, everything worked and we really liked the period features of the Station Hotel. We parked at the Blue Bell car park, which is a 10 minute walk away and can be paid for online.

Had an absolutely fabulous time. Stayed for four nights. Food is second to none. Great menu. Staff are so friendly and welcoming and atmosphere is warm. Rooms are really lovely and have lots of charm and character. This is my first visit to this area and I would definitely go there again. Also the hotel is close to amenities and train and bus stations. We'll worth the price too.

This is the second time I've stayed here, the first time was a couple of months ago when my 2 year old boy took unwell the staff were amazing and helpful! We came again yesterday with my mum, we had booked 2 rooms both rooms were very clean and cosy, and my little boy loved his view of the castle out of the window! The staff here are soo friendly I've never actually stayed somewhere where the staff are so pleaseant! There isn't any parking at the hotel but u can park just a few min walk passed the train station which isn't a problem atall. I will definitely be back the food is lovely and a great price too.

We stayed at the Station Hotel for a week when holidaying in Cumbria. It has a welcoming atmosphere and all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and we liked the original sash windows and stained glass. The bed was firm yet comfy and the shower very efficient. There were common sense practical touches such as a full size kettle, hooks on the bathroom door and blackout blinds which all went towards making our stay comfortable. The hotel has a wonderful view of Penrith Castle from the beer garden and it's in a great location, close to the town and the train station. There is no dedicated parking, but you can pull up outside to deal with you luggage on arrival and departure. There is parking available in Bluebell Lane car park which is a few minutes walk away and during our stay car park charges were suspended which was a handy bonus. Being close to to the town and on the main road, there is audible traffic noise, but this was not a problem for us. We had one evening meal and two breakfasts in the restaurant and found the meals to be very generous in portion size and tasty, with super friendly service. Penrith is a fantastic base for exploring the Lake District, Scottish Borders and Northumberland/Hadrian's Wall. The town has a varied selection of restaurants and also two supermarkets close to the hotel which we found useful for purchasing picnic supplies. If you want good value for money, a convenient location and a warm welcome then the Station Hotel is an excellent choice.

Called in for a meal and drinks on a Wednesday evening. The dining area is on the left as you enter the pub and is separate from the main bar area where the locals congregate. The menu was extensive and the quality of the food was excellent. The staff were very attentive, friendly and efficient. The one drawback was there was no real ale. Based on the food, service and value for money I would strongly recommend having a meal at The Station Hotel

On a road trip to Scotland we booked in here for the night. Lovely old characterful building, good sized room although the bathroom was a bit small. Had a meal in the pub in the evening which was amazing, great value for money and breakfast this morning was great too with a good selection. Overall this is a lovely place to stay, it’s a shame there is no parking but that can’t be helped. The absolute best thing about this place is the staff. Every single person we spoke to was so nice, friendly and helpful. It made our stay a pleasure, thank you

Booked 2 nights here through laterooms. There were 3 of us and it cost £140 in total for the 2 nights- bargain. We were put in the wrong room to begin with (genuine mistake- both myself and the intended guests in the first room had the same name!) second room was fine. Hotel is not modern but was cosy, and clean. Staff were lovely. We booked breakfast for our final morning only as we needed to be away to an event early on the first morning and the cooked breakfast was made fresh with your choice of eggs. They even didn’t mind when we came back from our obstacle race covered in mud... to then wash it all off in the shower!!! Excellent location for access to the town and amenities. No car parking but we found a sneaky space across the street without much difficulty. Overall great value and a good base for our weekend away!!

Went out for a run and ended up at Penrith. Was looking for somewhere to eat when my partner spotted the carvery sign out side the Station Hotel. Glad she did. From the warm welcome just after coming through the door. We were quite quickly shown to our table. This is not a posh place. More down to earth and homely.£7.50 got us a one course meal, £9.50 a two and £11.50 a three.I was pleasantly surprised to see lamb on the carvery. Even more surprised at the genius portion of meat given. Everything tasted fresh and really enjoyed my meal. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I’m sure if over here again. We wil back for food here again.( Below I wasn’t able to put star ratings as it didn’t seem to function. Would have put five for all three with what we experienced. )

No parking at hotel- at a paying car park 5-10 min walk. Room was so dirty (see the pics), broken blind, lamp blew when turned on, when we asked for breakfast were told it wasn't available...the list goes on. We stayed here for one night before heading on to a local festival so we're loaded up with bags, tents ,chairs and all sorts after getting the train ..... we were checked in by a really friendly girl who even offered to put anything we wanted in the fridge. The room was clean with en suite bathroom also clean. After having a wander around Penrith we went back to the hotel bar for a couple of drinks and everyone was really friendly. Breakfast the next morning again was lovely and the lady serving was nice and chatty making us feel at at home. The only downside was that the room was noisy due to the amount of traffic but that's no reflection on the hotel or staff . All in all a clean friendly place to stay and we will be back.

Whenever I'm planning to stay overnight anywhere, either in this country or abroad if I'm going on holiday, I always check on Tripadvisor first. And almost always there is at least one very negative review in amongst a whole bunch of what appears to be really good reviews. Personally, depending on the circumstances, I tend to more or less ignore the one bad report. However, I've now got to say that this will be one of the "not so good" ones.

Stayed in the family suite located at the top of the hotel. Room was very cold as there was a gap by the window which also made it very noisy with passing traffic. Thought the kids could have a bath to warm up but there was no hot water! Still no hot water in the morning. The bathroom felt dirty and was in much need of a makeover as was the rest of the hotel, in particular the stairs carpet which was extremely dirty. Made me laugh that our room key also opened the front door and presumably every other room in the hotel! Breakfast was very basic. Had to ask for cereal as it wasn't offered, the food was cold and the coffee was like dishwater. Certainly was not worth £7.50 each. You could say you get what you pay for but it wasn't overally cheap and have stayed in a lot nicer places for less money.

Visited end of April for family meal, there was a reasonable selection of draught and bottle beers reasonably priced. The food was very good pub fare, I had the garlic mushrooms served with garlic bread for starter, these were very tasty although I think the sauce could have been a bit thicker. I opted for rump steak as did my partner, my steak was medium rare and cooked perfectly, the wife likes hers medium/well and unfortunately this was cooked well done however there was no complaint, both dishes were accompanied by 'proper' chips, mine with salad and wifes with vegetables that were cooked fresh. The staff were very helpful and could not do enough for you there were 25 in our party who dined on a variety of dishes and I never heard one complaint. I will be returning to Penrith and will visit the Station if only to hear the craik from the owner/manageress who was very bubbly (gobby) and made sure everything ran smoothly, just as a Geordie would do,
