Great food, best portions I have found around this area for price, food is perfect every time, highly recommend. The only downside is the cash payments only but a shop is right next door with a cash machine. Can feed a family of 4 for less then £20

Friendly service, not often busy.

I tried the chicken strips and chips from here. The chips were fairly typical quality for a takeout: decent but not fantastic. The chicken strips were quite bland and no better than a frozen product; they weren't particularly bad, per se, but still underwhelming. Pricing was reasonable, costing me about £6 for one person, although only cash payments were being accepted at the time of my visit (August 2024).

It's been disappointing recently. Chips are always cold even after going in after they have just opened. The fish is usually pretty good but the chips are what really let's it down unfortunately. You can't have a fish and chip shop with cold chippies! It's a real shame as the service is good and the lady who works there is really nice!

Kebab meat was cold & greasey , pitta bread also cold. I was sick for 36 hours after eating here

Probably the best chip shop ever!! Have now visited three times over three years & the quality of the chips, sausage & large fish cake has been excellent each visit. A family owned traditional chip shop - they love what they do & they are very good at it too! They are proud to serve the local community with top quality freshly cooked food! The best value for money (out of 5 similar premises locally). For the chips, quality potatoes freshly cut, quality clean oil used to fry, couldn't ask for better! The jumbo sausage delicious (battered & non-battered). Simply amazing value meal, well under £10 for two adults...wow! Staff service friendly & always smiling :) Requested open wrapped, we thoroughly enjoyed eating straight away! Only one slight drawback is that it is a 'cash only' premise (we ran to the next door convenience shop & fortunately got cashback with a purchase). Next time we'll arrive better prepared! 👍☺️

Never had a problem previously. But I bought fish cake, Mushy peas and chips here on Saturday, the fish cake was obviously old and stale, it was so dry, I only ate half of it. That night I was violently ill with food poisoning. This is all I had eaten that day that would be the cause. Its put me off completely, won't be going back.

I had a perfectly cooked sausage and chips and a pickled egg. The service was very friendly, the price was good, however this is 2023 cash only is so last millennium.

I live in London and I have been to a fair bit amount of fish and ship shops to eat and I can honestly say this one is by far the best. The meat, the fish and the chips are amazing. Waiting time is almost none. Every time I come down to Southampton I eat here. Defenitly recomend. Staff are also awesome👍

Starfish Bar is the best fish & chips shop here in Southampton. We order in advance and collect for over 30 ladies at Thorners. The staff are so friendly and polite. Everything is wrapped up in s polystyrene container then wrapped in paper. We get back with our order and our ladies have a hot meal everyone happy. You are competitively priced and would never go anywhere else. Thanks so much you are simply the best. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

Don't get me wrong, the chips are great, quite a large portion for a small. However, I don't agree with the false advertising menu & opening and closing timetable. Multiple times I've walked to this place, after witnessing online that they are open, only to find that they are closed. Also, there are some lovely things on their online menu, but as soon as you go there to order something from their online menu, it would appear that they don't sell what is mentioned online. Sort it out! Thanks! >:(

Great place staff freindly chips are great proper chip shop chips not from frozen bags kebads are great never over cooked or undercooled

Free parking right outside makes access convenient. Ordering chips, mushy peas and jumbo sausage in batter was quick and easy. The chips were great, the sausage was tasty and well seasoned while the mushy peas we perfect for dipping the chips in. Good value for money, will use again.

Excellent local chippy, lucky to have it on our door step. Fish is always perfect and quality cod. Love this place and it's great for when we have guests.
