If you are looking for Filipino food and desserts in Torquay, this is the place to be. Why I would visit Starbakes again? - Authentic Filipino dishes and desserts in Devon - Piping hot food served - Decent size servings and pricing - Food good for sharing - Filipino restaurant near the Torbay coach station plus car parks nearby - Business run by family

We have visited on Sunday for the first time and couldn't be happier. This is a traditional Filipino restaurant with the food made from scratch. Try it and you won't be disappointed. The portions are very big and filling. The price is very affordable, even too affordable. 100x better than the oriental buffets it terms of flavour and price. Don't get me wrong, I like to visit the buffet from time to time but, if you ever cooked Asian food at home, you can tell it is not made from scratch and all the flavour enhancements and sugars overpower the flavour. You won't find this, in this lovely family run restaurant. Filipino food is a great in-between, less spicy than Indian or Thai, not as sweet as Chinese and also not bland. You can see that this is the food they would be eating themselves. If you feel like you'd want to travel and try new flavours, but don't have the money, please visit this restaurant and they will take you straight to Philippines. For the 2 of us to share, we have ordered siopao, chicken noodle soup, sizzling sisig with garlic rice, beef caldereta with rice, and halohalo for dessert. We struggled to finish the food and for all of that we paid just £27, which is unbelievably cheap. There is something very special about this place, the homely atmosphere, the food, the customer service... It takes a while for the Chef to cook the food, but that's a good sign, all made fresh. The lovely lady behind the counter couldn't let us wait, so she offered free tea and brought prawn crackers which was a pleasant surprise. We have never been treated so nicely in a local restaurant. I think this is Torquay's little hidden gem. I hope that the locals will support this business, as places like this make Torquay a nicer place. Don't be discouraged by some of the food descriptions. Filipino cuisine deliciously incorporates every kind of meat in some of their dishes. Some of the most popular types of meat used, offal meat, are not commonly used in British cuisine. But there are many unfamiliar things in the world which are delicious and we should eat more of. Eating offal (organ meat) is very healthy and sustainable (don't forget delicious). So if you're open to trying new things, this is the place for you. And if you're not, you'll definitely find something on the menu for you. I think they also offer delivery service.

My family likes to visit different places in UK and we always look for a Filipino food or restaurant. Today, my husband found one!! I like the batchoy which is different from traditional Bisaya batchoy but still enjoyed it. It was good plateful with egg and lots of beef. My husband had the Inasal which he loves and so as the kids. It was the first time my kids had the longsilog (Filipino sweet sausage with egg and tomatoe on side). Though I would say they don’t like the taste of the sausage but for me it will always be the best. My eldest had the lechon paksiw which he also love. The dessert - leche flan (creme caramel) is heaven. We love every bit of it. We would love to try more especially the halo halo but we were so full. Definitely be back tomorrow for it though😊.

I have been dying to try proper Filipino food for a long time after talking about it with my Filipino colleague. Was recommended here and indeed it taste great! It's a small family restaurant (4 tables) so might be hard to dine-in at times. Luckily, there were spaces available when I was there. I ordered a Sisig (like pork, cracking, and chicken liver mixed with an egg in a hot plate) and my partner order chicken noodles. Tasty 😄 and quite filling. But what's best are their desserts. They do puto (steamed rice cakes), Halo Halo which is new and taste almost the same as Mamasons (London), pichi pichi (sadly was not available that day), and Kutsinta. THE BEST THING IS THE KUTSINTA (choice of coconut or cheese but coconut is better). Legit ordered 3 to try then ordered 12 to Takeaway. If you don't know what there food means, they'll explain it, and they have WEEKLY specials, so do ask or check their insta. Will come again when I'm in Torquay (and maybe ask if they sell that Ube jam).

Absolutely delicious!! Went with my friends and tried most of the things in the menu and we all loved them! It’s very filling and a great place for authentic Filipino food. The owners are also extremely kind. Will definitely be visiting again when we return to Devon!

Well what a wonderful place this is,my first time but certainly not my last,my parents have been here quite a few times and nothing is too much trouble, adding in today my dad was unwell when we arrived and the young woman (owner?) was fantastic, she gave us privacy, whilst also checking everything was ok, not rushing us or making us feel uncomfortable in any way. PS: the food was also very good, including the Bakewell tart we took home. Thank you.

We have just returned after a one night stay at the Haytor Hotel. We couldn't have been more impressed. The hotel is beautiful and so are the stunning gardens. We found the hotel to be spotlessly clean and maintained beautifully. It has a great relaxing atmosphere, just what we needed. The hosts John and Jane were so welcoming and friendly making sure we had everything we needed for a great stay, which we did. Tea and cake was a lovely touch on arrival. Breakfast was amazing, a huge selection was available and cooked to order, fresh and piping hot and super delicious. Would 100% recommend this hotel and if we ever visit Torquay again the Haytor would be the hotel of choice. Thank you John and Jane, a fantastic hotel with fantastic hosts.
