In desperate need of renovation. Staff friendly enough and food not the most flavourful with minimal choices.

Proper British local village pub with a friendly atmosphere and decent staff and reasonably priced drinks. I've not long since moved to Cayton and I am very happy to call it my local and start becoming a regular here. I've not yet had food here but I am looking forward to in the future.

Lovely Food. Very dog friendly. Live music on a Friday night. Karaoke on a Saturday night. Good atmosphere. Beer Garden. Car Park.

Lovely friendly staff and customers.

Our plates were left on the table for a long time after finishing. When we asked the waiter if he could take then he was short toned with his response saying he'd come back for them to which he never did . The glasses had traces of lipstick still on from previous customers. The outside garden is in need of a revamp. There's a lovely open fire if you are happy to sit near the not so friendly waiter/barman.

Never answers phone, and doesn't seem to ever serve food.

Dog friendly pub, very welcoming, hotdog and fries only £4, would recommend and return, although very noisy at weekends with drunk locals

Stayed on caravan club site September 2023 walked to star inn in the evening doors all bared and bolted no lights on place looked abandoned!

A great pub. Nothing fancy about it but that's what makes it feel like a friendly place. The bar staff were friendly and food tasty. We were on a short break and will definitely go again when in Cayton area.

Nice little pub and a very enjoyable Sunday lunch

Our food took ages to arrive then to be told the chef had a heart attack and they have apprentice cooks. Sorry chef! The place was dirty, dogs out of control, not a quiet enjoyable experience at all.

On holiday, popped in a few times,nice people made very welcome all good 👍

Batman was great but doing everything except the cooking. We both had scampi which was pretty basic (like the value brand you'd buy in a frozen food store), but cooked and presented ok.

Lovely place, made to feel very welcome, food is superb and homemade even catered for a vegan diner (thank you), dog treats on bar to make our 2 Whippets feel at home. Thank you Jonny and team xx see you all again soon.

Sat there landlord would not take salad off cardboard box like I requested at bar. Next thing I know landlord walks in with a horse in the pub. Not for me ever again.

Another excellent "local"pub, sadly lots of them now closed, good choice of beers, owners are very pleasant, a really nice pub. The 4 star for food was only because we didn't eat, has we we're just thirsty people just passing by.

Best pub in the area and should be supported. Prefer it to The Farrier, which was ok but what I call fancy food that doesn't fill you up. Anyone staying on the Caravan Club site I say to try this pub. We had a lovely pie, chips and peas. Great outdoor area too for when we finally get a summer.

Just had lunch with my partner and 2 children. From walking in the door it was very welcoming, friendly the staff couldn't do enough for us. We were celebrating our sons 3rd birthday and they went out of thier way to make it special for him. We will be back, thank you.

We visited this pub with our lively two year old dog and were immediately impressed with the friendliness and politeness of the hosts. The menu included most of the typical types of pub food, and it was really well cooked with good portion sizes. Even the dog was given some treats and made a fuss of. We ate outside as it was a fairly warm day in a lovely covered area from where we could admire the garden. It's definitely a place to re-visit.

Nice pub but no food when we were there. I tried to phone and message them to ask but no answer so I popped in on good Friday and asked about food, Sunday lunch nothing else. Live music on Sunday afternoon was good.

New owner, chef and bar staff , been refurbished and doing food all day including Sunday roast , - ham + eggs & steak pie +peas !

Great village local. Friendly landlord who made us feel very welcome and who has recently taken over the Star and is spending a great deal of his time and money to provide a traditional pub for the village. He has recently renovated the kitchen with new equipment and will be providing food shortly. We enjoyed our visits to the Star and look forward to returning soon. Highly recommend 👌

Staying at the Caravan and Motorhome Club site so called in for a couple of drinks, the new Manager is a lovely bloke, the locals are really friendly and the beer was spot on, dogs are welcome, I highly recommend it for dog owners who stay at the Caravan and Motorhome site.

Landlord seems a nice chap but pub it's self requires some work to bring it up to today's standards which landlord has said he will hopefully be doing in the near future.

What a lovely place, amazing friendly staff, clean bar and facilities and most importantly a great pint. You can tell these people take pride in what they do. Definitely returning when I'm in the area!

Called in for lunch over the bank holiday, new landlord only been in 8 weeks and he was very welcoming. The food though was disappointing. I had meatballs with bolognese sauce on spaghetti, the spaghetti was yellow in colour on top and the rest was white in colour underneath (as it should be) . It had clearly been reheated (really!). Won't be going back.

Popped in for a couple of drinks with the family. The barman was very friendly, chatty and happy. Service was very good despite a few issues with their internet, which caused a knock on to the card reader, this meant cash only, oh well. Good enough selection of larger and gin, not so many ciders though. The garden area out the back was very clean indeed and quite spacious. A nice covered patio area out back was also a nice touch.

As hand pulled fans, we found the beer too expensive (but then this is a very common occurance). Otherwise, friendly staff and friendly locals too.

Lovely time spent with family on Boxing Day. Christmas music and a great atmosphere and a roaring fire. Beautiful.

The beer is good if a bit minty, Black Sheep. Staff and other clients are great. Sport TV a bonus. Decent home made pie. More attention to cooking the carrots would have got the 5th star.

Great dog friendly pub. Well priced drinks and a good gin selection. They serve food on 6 days of the week generally until around 7 pm. They have a large beer garden which is great in the summer. Usually a weekend programme of activities karaoke/ singer and a quiz night. Dogs are made very welcome throughout the pub. Would highly recommend this place.

Ordered two sunday roasts early evening. Turkey & beef were both dry and remainder if veg tasted burnt. When mentioned to the staff this was dismissed as they could see anything blackened. Didn't seem to understand that food can take on a burnt taste if caught. Wouldn't recommend

We visited this pub on a recent holiday. A family and dog friendly pub that offers home cooked food at very reasonable prices. Unfortunately we waited 2 hours for our food to served.

Lovely pub, great atmosphere and friendly bar staff. They've recently started doing food I had the homemade steak pie and my partner had the scampi it was delicious and very good value at only £7.95 per meal I can highly recommended this place.

Nice bar. I was the only one in at the time and no food was being served. It's under new management and the outdoor area was nice. One of the only two bars available in the area. Beers on tap are your standard choices. Would do better to get a different supplier in to stand apart.
