This spot was brilliant, great staff, great service couldn’t ask for anymore! The staff are lovely especially the landlady. Canal views are amazing and the best pint of Peroni I’ve had in a long time. Thank you to the star! I highly recommend!

This pub, what a great place to have a quiet drink on your own or with the family or even with friends. What a lovely bunch of staff and a great bar manager. The pub is a great place to mingle and a lovely place to enjoy a beer in the sun right with the lovely stone canal by your side. The location is brilliant can’t say anymore than that, watches the barges go past was the highlight of my day. The meals going past me looked lovely and I’ll be returning very soon. I first came to this pub in July and I now call myself a regular. Wouldn’t rather be at any pub in stone or staffordshire now I have visited this one.

Having visited this pub in the past we were very excited to bring our friends to enjoy the pub. We were very disappointed. The staff were not at all interested in serving us, the quality of the beers and the food was extremely poor. We shall not be coming again and will have no hesitation in informing others about our bad experience.

Came in with my husband as we were walking along the canal, within 10 minutes of sitting down we realised this isn’t the place for us, there was people selling/taking drugs, bar staff was rude, tables were dirty, no food being served, I would avoid at all costs.

Lovely welcome. Really homely, warm with the open fires. Great beer. Food I have to say was delicious. Prices amazing for quality and quantity we got. Shall be visiting again very soon.

Tuesday evening me and my friend went here for a pint, the Guinness was great! After smelling the food, we decided to have a mix grill each, the food was amazing! Everything was done perfectly, the beef dripping sauce👌🏻 everything tasted fresh, best mix grill I’ve had in years, The service was great, everything was nice and clean. 100% definitely recommend!

Shame to see the pub quite this year on bonfire however the service was amazing and the food was banging ! 100% recommend to family with small children as they have a really good menu for the kids and little activity’s on the menu. Adult menu has so many choices with a wide range covering for all.

What a great pub in a lovely area. Called and had lunch and was so pleased with our meals, great service from the friendly staff and delicious food, even catering for my friend who is Gluten Free. Very disappointed with the meal and service. My meal was clearly a microwaved ready meal as i found a piece of plastic at the bottom of the dish. The waitress brought a meal over and asked “Is this yours?”.We asked her what it was as she held the plate aloft. She replied I don’t know! Extremely overpriced and extremely disappointing. A pub in such a lovely setting should be able to achieve so much more. The management should seek advice from the other establishments in town who produce excellent food. i feel ripped off

Visited as a family at lunchtime. Staff polite and food were hot. We had 2 platters to share and ordered sides of fries, chips, and garlic bread. Thought price was reasonable. The 2-year-old in party enjoyed seeing the barges/longboat pass by.

We came here only to be met with some drunken women sat outside who were similar to Waynetta. Now, granted, we were using the carpark to nip to pick up a pizza across the road. Fair enough, I understand about patrons only, but it was around 5pm and carpark empty. 'Waynetta' was apparently sat with the owners who looked like they were enjoying her gob off (not the older chap. He looked embarrassed) A simple excuse me from the landlady would be sufficient, of course, which we'd have moved on problem solved. Definitely not the place to bring the family. By looking at the reviews, I'd say not a place to visit at all.

This is possibly the worst and most over priced ‘pub food’ I’ve ever had. Cheesy garlic bread untoasted and cold on one side, ribs, greasy and hardly any meat and chicken ‘wings’ that are like processed turkey drummers!!! At least the onion rings were hot...

There website claims to be open at 11am...we arrived at 11:30am waited around for half an hour and still didnt open. Tried to call the front desk a few times and no answer.

A great pub to have causal drinks in. Bradley makes you feel very welcome, and nothing is too much trouble. 100% recommend!

If you want good service, clean tables , the correct meal and management who care what you think, try McDonalds, the last laugh was a salad served on a hot plate, Chefs response, i had no plates left ????

This pub is right next to the canal so you can sit outside and watch the boats go by. I would say the food was average pub food bu still really enjoyed it.

Had a steak cooked rare at the Star in Stone today, more than half of it was totally inedible & in the end gave up trying to find any good bits because my jaw ached from trying to chew it. Told the bar staff who cleared the plates away that it was the worst steak I'd had in a long time. Nothing was done about it. I won't be returning. Very disappointing.

We visited on a sat was quite busy staff were very attentive nothing was too much trouble and the food was really good the meat and potato pie was huge and my partners gammon burger made a very good change from your normal burger would recommend a visit and will be returning

This is a great pub, in fantastic location and very welcoming. Last time we went there was 35 years ago! We went there twice this week with a group and could not have been better looked after. Good pub food/menu, with very friendy service. Will definitely return

We went here last year and enjoyed our meals so thought we would return when we were in the area again. The food was fine...good pub grub with friendly and helpful staff. Dog friendly too which is good for us. Good beers so no complaints!

Considering this is a Marstons Pub ( a brand I like) and is in a prime location this is a tired, scruffy, not particularly clean pub. Glasses left outside, tables not clean and the weekend lunchtime menu consists of a few sandwiches and jacket potatoes. All in all a massively underwhelming experience for a pub in a prime location. Marstons spend some money and get this place cleaned up and provide a better offering.

On a hot Sunday afternoon I went into this pub. The High St was lacking with eateries and this place was open. The tables inside were a bit dirty so I went out and managed to get a table. The food soon came. I ordered a Chicken and leek pie which was hot but lacked taste and flavouring. I had a few peas and carrots which were boiled to excess and lacked taste. I would not describe the gravy. I would not eat it again. The beer was fine with a decent choice. The location of this pub is great by a lock which was very busy and provided lots of entertainment. Pub is dog friendly. I would not rush back. Staff were good and friendly. For a pub in such a great location the food should be better. This was not the cheapest place I have been to.

Not been to the Star Inn for a long time but now wish we hadn’t. Disinterested overworked staff, scruffy interior and really poor quality food. Let’s hope poor reviews make management implement positive change as this pub has a great location.

This place always looked nice when I've driven past so thought we'd take a chance and have a drive out for some food on a lovely summer evening.

Ordered burger with chips and coleslaw, or so it said on the menu, arrived home and realised no slaw. Any how I read the reviews about the Star, and again I was doupped into to thinking that it was under new management, if it is the menu is still very plain. As a local, I live close to this pub, I think it right to tell folks that this is not the best place to eat, the alternative is wetherspoons, at least you are going to get what is on the menu. The local bar flys don't help either, they get served, with the odd nod, which leaves you standing asking for a drink that your not going to get, till your asked again, the pub is drab and is in need of a face lift. I shall not be wasting my time eating there again, its nice for a pint on a sunny day, sitting by the canal but that's it

It is pub food, not restaurant food, but good quality pub food and at a very reasonable price.

Stayed in Stone for one night & had dinner at The Star Inn, reasonably priced in between Wetherspoons & Granvilles. Had fish and chips, scampi & chips which were both nice, we would eat there again.

Having been several times to this establishment and never being rated highly in my eyes has on my most recent visit reached even lower depths in my eyes. I have been to some low class establishments but this is the first one where I have personally witnessed children seemingly allowed to run riot and too illegally allowed to play a one armed bandit machine. Now I may be wrong but I was always under the impression that you had to be at least 18 to play these machines but these particular individuals were 10 at the very most. Added to this a complete lack of management skills or customer service adds up to one awful place to visit.

We had lunch on Saturday. We had pulled pork nachos and soup. Food was good and the location is great, right next to a canal lock, but the soup portions weren't big and it wasn't cheap.

Only 1 ale on, and only lagers otherwise, poor service, overpriced, you could by 5 bottles of coke for the price of a half

Just visited today, the fire is on sat next to the window watching walkers down the canal, eating amazing food which there is an amazing menu for! And the two bar staff on are really nice and had a good joke with us too. Might have to make this a regular visit! Thank you guys!

Having walked along the very picturesque canal I called into the Star Inn for lunch. It’s a gorgeous building with a warren of rooms to sit in. The staff were friendly and very well trained and I had a tasty roast dinner. I was offered extra gravy when my meal arrived - always a good touch! The car park on Crown Street next door is free in the evenings and on Sundays, so there’s no excuse at all not to visit!

Went early on a Saturday, Not too busy. Lots of little rooms. Some with log fires. Classic old style pub

Great looking pub right on the canal. It has a great outside space to watch the boats too! Food is really good here and the drinks are very reasonable too. There is a large car park and a number of little rooms to get lost in! Worth a look.

I have visited here on many occasions whilst walking along the canal and had a pretty decent drink here. I had my first meal here and can't complain. I went on a Sunday lunchtime and the place wasn't too busy, so my meal, ( a steak sandwich), arrived quite promptly. The steak was well cooked and it came on a rustic bread. Okay, it wouldn't have won any prizes for presentation but hey!

I have called in this pub very often when passing through on my narrow boat. When It changed hands it looked as though it would continue as a nice watering hole.

This is an inn right beside the canal through Stone. Guess is that it has quite a history but most of the staff were under 30 and didnt know too much. Sit in the extension and watch the locks open and close with longboats pass by.. Notice how the husbands steer the boat and the wife heaves thelock gate open and close !!!

Great old fashioned pub with lots of levels, wood and slate. Friendly helpful staff. We had a satisfactory meal on Saturday night while be entertained by a local rock band...…..happy days.

This is a very old pub right by the side of the canal in Stone so we decided to try it out!

Our second time back after about 4 years. I ordered the fish and chips as did my daughter. Neither of us finished it. My daughter had the kids fish and chips and it looked as if it was from a packet. My fish had a very strong overpowering taste. My wife had the chicken tika without rice as they ran out of rice.

Went in on Sunday with my wife, son, brother and sister in law. Ordered drinks and I had a Guinness and I have to say the Star does do a good pint.

My wife and I visited for lunch on Saturday, we arrived just before opening, a friendly welcome and we were allowed to park and wonder around the farmers market before returning for an impromptu lunch.

Stopped in for a drink on a sunny day. The place was dark and dingy about smelly and sticky. My pint was flat , won't visit again.

Great location, very picturesque. Party of 12, pre-ordered food to help kitchen with large order. All food was great other than steaks cooking preference. Sent back and next ones were perfect, no quibbles or issues. All the food was delicious. Chef did really well as we found out at end he was on own.

Unlike a lot of canal side pubs, the Star is easy to find on the outskirt of Stone. Plenty of parking.

Since my last visit nothing has changed,pub great,staff great,food and drink great.will be back again at the end of August,i'm sure nothing will have changed it is a lovely pub.

We have had variable food in the past but on this visit the food was excellent. We had three different meals from the Lite Bites menu and all were good. Staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Called in on our way back from Cbeebies Land at Alton Towers with our two-year-old and five-year-old girls. The lady serving at the bar was friendly, cheerful and helpful - she made us feel very welcome.

Came here for some food. After been quoted a 30min wait food arrived quite quickly. All the meals looked well prepared and were enjoyable. I asked for condiments but unfortunately they never materialised. Other than that it was a good meal.

A place to eat and drink with a history that stretches back to the height of the canal age. Offering weekday specials, this canalside pub has a fantastic location just etre from a busy lock on the Trent and Mersey Canal. The lock in fact shares its name with the pub and is called Star Lock.

Took my partners aunties for Sunday lunch who were visiting Stone for the weekend. Firstly have to say that the Sunday lunch was excellent. The real extra mile though was when the lady behind the bar couldn’t get us a taxi to take my partners aunties to the station the chef stepped in and saved the day by giving them a lift. Both their actions were well beyond great customer service and saved my partners aunties from a wet walk in the rain and likely missing of the train. Will definitely be returning on the merit of the Sunday lunch alone
