I used to love the Star and Garter however I have recently had a bad experience and so would not recommend to anyone. My husband and I got married in February 2023 and were given a gift voucher to use at Star and Garter. We decided to save it and use it during the summer however when we came to book it we realised that the restaurant was closed for refurbishment. We kept checking back to book in but it was closed throughout the whole summer. I have since emailed 4 times (my first email being on the 25th July). I recieved a reply from the first 2 emails, my third email from 10 days ago has been ignored and I've emailed again today. I understand that the kitchen is now run by a different company however I was told that they were looking into how they could transfer my voucher across to the kitchen. I am very annoyed that after 4 months they still haven't replied to let me know if we can use the voucher or not.

We last visited this place 3 years ago when it was a pub with harbour view and loved our meal so much we decided to book another meal, driving over from St Ives to have our Sunday lunch. At first we were taken aback to see that the pub we previously visited was now transformed and very different to what we first visited, but in no way had it lost its charm and cosy feel. The pub is now an intimate setting with four tables and a small bar. The food though is still out of this world and the roast was one of the bests I’ve had at a pub. The staff were massively helpful and very accommodating as we were perhaps the most awkward party having two young babies and a dog with us, but this did not faze them one bit. I’m so glad we came back and although sad to not have the same dramatic harbour view, I’m certain the hotel rooms take full advantage of this previous perk! Thanks for accommodating us and for our perfect experience!

We ate here on 19th October. It was poor. The venison and Guinness stew was sent back three times to get it hot! Sardines were literally a tin of sardines which the customer opened without anything else! Could never recommend it. The Only disappointing meal we had in Falmouth.

Nice, large room, rather small bathroom. Everything was clean and there was the possibility of proper ventilation, which was necessary as there was a slight smell of food in the room (back room of a pub). Unfortunately, the people in the pub weren't particularly friendly or cooperative.

The room is very spacious and cozy with a direct view over the harbor. Unfortunately the people in the pub weren't very nice. The key to the accommodation was in a small compartment that could be opened with a code. However, it wasn't clear to us where the room was. It was a back room of the pub. It smelled a bit like food but was quiet. We parked above on the street because it was Sunday.

Enjoyed delicious Sunday roast here…vegetarians, gluten intolerant and rabid carnivores in our group all catered for. Possibly the best Yorkshire puddings outside of Yorkshire! Also visited for small plates and drinks one evening…again we were not disappointed. Chef, Angus Bell’s trademark crab fritters were on offer and went extremely well with a delicious Cornish Margarita. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. I can’t recommend it highly enough! It’s a real gem.

Loved the big Pineapple lamp in the lounge (we would have stolen it if we werent such lovely Guests) ..we will be back. Be prepared for the stairs, not convenient (like the parking) byt once you are upstairs you won't care. Excellent location for a stroll into town!

Sunday Lunch at the Star and Garter is a must when in Falmouth. Hogs pudding and Crab fritters are a must for starters. Roast Beef melts in your mouth, and roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding were to die for. The Mushroom wellington was delicious, as was the Chicken. We will certainly be back again.

I had dined here several times last time being in 2019. Then, we had fabulous views over the harbour and the cuisine matched the view - wonderful fish. So in fairness my visit yesterday had something to live up to. I entered and wondered where the view had gone. Depending on who you speak to it’s either rooms or flats. Hunger calling I assured myself that I couldn’t eat a view. Encouraged by the list of suppliers on the wall I was set up for a wonderful fish dinner. To my shock there was beef, lamb and a vegetarian dish. Ok, it was a Sunday. I chose the vegetarian dish as I didn’t feel like meat. The dish was well presented and tasty. It was served with the same sides as the meat dishes which were reasonable. I wanted something else and went for the dessert a steamed pudding which was good. My fellow dinners were tucking into the beef which looked good and there were encouraging signs. The service was functional. For what it now is, it merits in my mind 3/5.

We visited the Star and Garter as it was recommended to us for Sunday lunch. Well we were not disappointed. The Sunday lunch was one of the best I have ever had. It is no wonder that they are recommended in many magazines and guides. All the meat for your party comes on one huge plate together with roast potatoes and huge Yorkshire puddings. The vegetables come in separate dishes. The portions are generous and the food is cooked perfectly packed full of flavour. The two girls who were waitressing were both disinterested, but that did not affect what was a wonderful meal.

The S&G is fabulous. If you stay here on a trip to Falmouth grab breakfast from Stones bakery on the same street and bring it back here to enjoy the views! The staff are helpful and communicative before check in and after. Importantly the space is clean and stylish! The amenities are great with fresh ground coffee etc - be sure to grab a coffee from the wonderful Beacon coffee shop on the same road too though. Perfectly placed to enjoy all Falmouth has to offer from the town to beaches.

We heard many great things about the restaurant and thought staying above would be fun for our one night in Falmouth. The Crows Nest room on the top floor was cost with amazing views. A self catering kitchen included, with a local market down the street. The location is right in town at the top of the main road, easy walk to all the shops and eateries. Our dinner was the Sunday roast and though menu options were limited, they were delicious. We had the roast beef and all the fixings (Yorkshire pudding for the win!) The potatoes were super tough - unable to cut but creamy on the inside. Space is small, but dog friendly!

What a great restaurant! We had the most delicious Sunday lunch with some very tasty alternatives to the traditional roast veg fare. And what a delight the vegetarian ricotta filled dumplings were! So nice to see genuine thought and consideration given to the vegetarian offering rather than the all too common afterthought that vegetarian choices can be. Missed the view but this didnt detract from the sumptuous food offering with great service too.

We definitely recommend dinner at The Star and Garter which was delicious. We chose to have the sharing plates and they were all amazing but a special mention for the crispy squash with whipped feta, hot honey and crispy sage, the Somerset charcuterie salami and the shepherd's pie nuggets. It is a small restaurant with a friendly relaxed atmosphere and it's really lovely that the owner is doing the 'front of house'. We will definitely return when we are in Falmouth.

The most delicious roast, would even go as far as saying best roast I've ever eaten. Very good, would highly recommend. Big portions and all done with a twist. We had the roast lamb, followed by sticky toffee pudding. Only downside I would say, is that it no longer has the views of the sea and is now half the size.

An absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch. Tender meat, as would be expected. But what we didn't expect were all the tasty sides. Massive Yorkshire puddings, really crunchy roast potatoes (but not in an overcooked way), cauliflower cheese with loads of cheese, swede mash, green veg with parmesan. I think it's the best I've ever tasted in over 50 years. It's a shame that there isn't a sea view from the restaurant any more, but get over it, people. The food is the thing. Will return. Many times.

We booked to return to the Star and Garter after a lovely meal there the previous year. We were a little shocked as we walked in (I thought we were in the wrong place), the whole back section of the restaurant was sectioned off and gone with only a very small section with 5 closely placed tables remaining. It has been majority converted into holiday letting accommodation. We listened repeatedly to the waitress having to explain to everyone who walked in and looked confused why the majority of the restaurant and views were gone (make more money with holiday accommodation). We had no idea this was the case, on the website where we booked you can still find a photo of the outside of the building looking through to the previously amazing spacious restaurant with ‘harbour views’ clearly written, so we did feel a bit misled. This should be updated. The small remaining restaurant means you sit very close to everyone and conversations are not therefore private. Despite the above the food was, as it had been before AMAZING but given the close proximity of other diners, the lack of space and views, we won’t be returning unfortunately.

When a restaurant has a small menu concerntrated on one theme it has to do it really well. Here they do it really really well, elevating a roast chicken to another level with the Jus, Alioli and salsa verde. We had ours with the roasted beetroot salad and the bread and chicken butter and everything was superb, cant fault the food or the service. Having seen the S&G reviewed in a travel magazine years ago, I’ve wanted to stay here ever since. The room view is spectacular, a panoramic look across Falmouth. However the room is in need of some care with lots of obvious marks on the walls, some broken bits here and there and really unclean windows which do diminish the view slightly. Additionally, the room was not fully clean when we arrived with key areas having been missed in the turn around. We emailed the owner to mention this and she was helpful in saying someone would come up to re-clean but we’d cleaned it ourselves instead and we were only there for 1 more night. I’m sure the accommodation would have been top notch at one point but it has seen better days.

Several visits have been made to this establishment and I can honestly say that the food is absolutely fantastic. I've always turned up to collect my food and every time I'm greeted with a warm welcome. The tables have always been laid very professionaly. The atmosphere is very upbeat and relaxing. Since they have changed the layout due to extremely important circumstances which don't concern anyone else, they have made a tremendous effort to ensure business can run as efficiently as possible. I will continue to you visit this restaurant (Yes small but very cosy) not just for really tasty food but even for a drink and a bit of banter. Well done to the team, family, staff, everyone involved for making it the best it can be. A massive hats off to the chef because he is extremely good at his job and certainly DOES know what he's doing in the kitchen. See you all very soon.

We booked for the star and garter and when we arrived it was clear something had changed. Instead of the old superb restaurant we now had something totally different. The main dining room had I think been converted to more accommodation and it almost felt like as part of that deal they had to keep a restaurant open. What was left was a half hearted excuse of a place. No salt/pepper on the tables and available on request only (1 set per restaurant), no corkscrew (wtf), cans of cocktails from Waitrose, no draft beers. The person serving and fixing drinks, clearly had not the experience or training to do it. £18 a head for the food which to be honest was a pleasant surprise but was totally ruined by the amateurish everything. I would not return until they decide to do it properly or close - so disappointing.

WHAT AN ABSOLUTE LET DOWN this time, a pokey dining room of barely 6 tables. Converted the bar into rooms so no more stunning views or atmosphere. Cramped, tables were bare despite us booking in advance, limited drinks menu (Two cocktails one was out of stock) nothing on draft and no spirits or soft drinks detailed. Couldn’t read the menu on the mirror as written in pen that blended in. The waitress was terrible, ordered drinks including fizz which she didn’t offer to pour and neglected to put it in a wine cooler. Cutlery was thrown at us, condiments had to be asked for which were passed around the tiny room - did they really only have one set of salt and pepper? Food arrived and it was luke warm despite them ringing the bell downstairs for service several times (at that point we were the only ones in there). Beef was tough, potatoes overcooked and green veg was undercooked and hardly any. We normally have a starter and dessert - no dessert was offered and they couldn’t get us out of there quick enough because a table of four walked in and there was nowhere for them to sit. Having visited here on a number of occasions over the years (atleast 2-3 times a year) and always on my birthday as the food, service and atmosphere has been amazing. Panoramic views of the sea, woodburner, cocktails and fantastic selection of food/drink. We were really looking forward to it. MASSIVE DISAPPOINTMENT AND WILL NOT BE VISITING AGAIN. So very sad that they felt they had to ruin what was always a busy premises when previously visited.

So disappointed with cocorico which was formerly the star and garter an amazing pub/restaurant. We were unaware that this had changed and is now a poky dining room. Its identity was lost, no more sea views, the tables were not laid and the whole restaurant had to share a salt and pepper! We ordered the roast beef and chicken. The Yorkshire puddings and potatoes were excellent, the beef was tough and the other vegetables were ok. The drinks selection was average and they didn’t have a corkscrew! We were not asked if we’d like any more drinks after the initial drink. It all just felt very amateurish. We wouldn’t return, which is a shame as it was previously our favourite restaurant in Falmouth.

Firstly I have to say that we booked a table at the restaurant because of the reviews stating the great views of the Falmouth harbour from here. Unfortunately this part of the restaurant has been converted to accommodation. All that is left are four tables at the front with a view of the road. We had Sunday roast which was ok, but pricey at £18. Wine is limited to house red/white/rose with a limited choice of ales. One hour into our visit I was asked if the waitress could take one of the two small tables we were using for another booking. So the three of us bunched around a single table. We were not even asked if we would like desert. Overall not the best experience. The accommodation side of the business is excellent and definitely recommended.

This used to be a nice pub but now it’s a poky dining room seating about 14 covers in total. The waitress was flakey and looked surprised at being asked for wine glasses to go with the wine we ordered. We had to ask for water, water glasses and salt. Re wine, there is only house red or house white. Likewise, there were only 2 menu choices: chicken or beef. The food was good - 4 of us had roast beef - but there was only one pepper pot for the whole restaurant (we know because the waitress took it away from us when another table asked for pepper). The service was terrible and this feels like a lazy cafe. I cannot recommend. Avoid.

Enjoyed a delicious family chicken dinner here, the whole chicken was delivered to the table cooked to perfection, perfectly roasted and seasoned, with a selection of incredibly tasty hot and cold accompaniments. The banquet was generous but we still managed to eat almost everything, we couldn’t leave it alone! What a great idea, a different way to eat out, sharing a common meal, whilst having the feel of an intimate family dinner. Recommend booking well in advance as tables are limited and I’m guessing this is a popular place that people would visit again and again. Not up to their usual standards. The veggie option was tasteless and uninspired. My chicken was dry and over cooked and the monkfish was under cooked. A couple of mistakes front of house and the wouldn’t take cash. It’s not cheap and the food and...

A window seat overlooking Falmouth harbour made even this rainy evening seem great. Service and food all very good. Has quite a unique vibe, looks like an old pub but feels like a classy restaurant.

Popped in for a couple of pints, and was astonished to be charged £7.50 per pint of Verdant ‘guest’ beer. When queried why we were paying higher than London prices - in Cornwall - was met with a quizzical and somewhat uninterested stare. Probably a...

I have to say that once it changed hands years ago from the fabulous family restaurant to the pizza joint ive been very snooty about this place and not set foot inside. How wrong was i!!!! The food here is fantastic. Not “just pizza’s” as ive said previously but the best pizza’s in town! The potatoes are great too. Much better than the massed produced stuff from PE. We will be back
