Stanhope Arms in South Derbyshire

We had two evening meals, unconnected to our stay at Premier Inn Burton On Trent East next door, and they were fantastic. Nice bar staff and pleasant facilities.

Visited for the first time 11th August fir a family meal 15 of us in total. The staff were all very well presented and attentive. All of the food came out very close together timewise so no-one was left waiting to eatand all of the food was hot. Nothing was too much trouble even when my granddughter didn't like her food choice for main it was changed with no problem at all. One of the party commented that it was the best Mixed Grill he had ever had.

Lovely breakfast when we visited with our 3 children. Service was excellent and a great variety on offer. Fantastic value for money too! Will definitely be back again soon.

They say only a fool keeps making the same mistake over and over. On the flip side these reviews are written as an objective and fair summary, rather than a rushed emotive response to something less than perfect... So with this location there was a real hope that it would get better. It used to really well run - but after several disappointing Sunday lunches, it’s time to tell it as it is and go elsewhere in future. The dining room at the rear is quite a pleasant room with lots of natural light. Look closely at the decor though and you’ll see it looks like someone has ‘had a go’ and painting the interior a lighter colour and then given up. Certainly cutting in around the edges wasn’t their strongest point…! The food is often well presented and offers good value for money within the confines of a fairly standard menu. It is the service though which is so hit and miss and gives the impression that it’s not professionally run. It can feel more like a lottery than a relaxing dining experience. At our last visit another set of fresh faces greeted and seated us. It started off well, although the people on the adjacent table were complaining and vowing not to pay the full amount which didn’t bode well. After the main course came that was it. We never saw anyone again. No removal of dirty plates. No offer of a desert. No asking about additional drinks. We had been forgotten about as we were not near the main area! After 30 minutes approached 45, it was clear no one was coming so we paid at the bar and left. It’s a mistake that will not be repeated again which is such a shame.

Visited for a family get together, the service was brilliant, really friendly waitresses. Special thanks to Victoria who made us feel welcome and comfortable! All our meals were hot and we all enjoyed them. Will definitely be back when in the area again

Great all you can eat cooked breakfast, hot and fresh croissants, huge beer garden surrounded by nature. Lovely place to just sit and watch the world go by.

We were staying next door at the Premier Inn and decided to visit the pub for a couple of drinks and an evening meal. I don't drink lager, but was happy to see that they had two draft pale ales on tap. After ordering a pint, the girl behind the bar tried to pull the beer, however after several attempts it was obvious that the barrel had gone off and they didn't have any more. I then ordered the second choice, only to find that the beer tasted absolutely rank and was obviously tainted with something, so in the end I opted for cider. The menu for this type of pub was typically fried and grilled food, so we ordered breaded mushrooms to start and both chose lasagne as a safe bet. The mushrooms when they arrived were in a case of hard dried breadcrumbs but the mushrooms inside were slimy and tasteless. The lasagne, when it arrived, was probably the worst meal that we have both had for many a year. There were a few bits of pasta floating around it a tomato based sauce with bits of what I presumed was mince. The whole thing was covered in a greasy cheese and white sauce which was not really edible. The dish came with two pieces of garlic bread, which was okay and a ramekin of chopped up salad slathered with dressing. I don't expect fine dining when visiting this type of eatery, but I do expect to get something decent, which this was certainly not. There were probably only about 6 other diners in the place, however the music was on really loud making conversation quite difficult.

Best £20 I've ever spent on all you can eat breakfast for 2 Good quality full English breakfast as much as you want for £9.99 that includes as much coffee and tea and great toast and butter and to top it all off Nutella yum 😋 Friendly staff and service

March 10th.mothers day..absolutely amazing,3 course menu,every meal was nicely presented, taste was amazing,a good size portion,service was quick ,very organised, great atmosphere with music in the back ground..staff were polite and very helpful. We’d been previously for lunch a few weeks before and despite really slow service (in an empty pub) the food was nice and our server was pleasant enough that we thought we’d come back thinking it was just an off-day for speed of service Turns out that was actually a good day for them as when we returned service was somehow much slower- again, with an almost empty restaurant. 3 servers on with 4 tables in and still took nearly half an hour to even get a drinks order in, 2 hours and a few average dishes later and then we had the displeasure of a completely indifferent young woman taking our payment- just £50 for the pleasure. Not so much as a ‘how was your meal?’ Just a vacant stare and a growl of ‘cheers. Can’t imagine they have many returning customers.

The restaurant is ok as was the food the staff are fine too. However they had run out of draught beer. Apparently very busy Sunday lynch. Also no dessert dishes same reason No salad option on the menu despite it bring advertised on the online menu They offered a salad which when it came had lots of lettuce red pepper and cheese and cucumber. Cheese not mentioned and had asked for no cucumber. No tomatoes though. Breakfast however was fine very helpful waitress

Popped in with family for an evening meal. All our food was well cooked and hot. I had the chicken fajita burger with the loaded chips. . Kids meals are great value and a good range. Was served by Layla and Ruby. Great friendly service. Also had a few games of pool whilst there. Would recommend.

My car had broken down 9n an extremely cold night. The staff here were happy for me to wait in the warm for the breakdown crew. I had time to have a meal. I was served quickly. Lasagne was very good with garlic bread.

I get my order taken at 20:50 and wait then at 21:10 I get told the chef has turned off the grill at 21:00 so they can't do me any food. don't know why they didn't tell me when they seated me at 20:45

It took nearly an hour for our food to arrive, my steak was overcooked, and my meal was missing an element. My fiancé's burger was likewise overcooked and dry. There was no Guinness, hob goblin or doombar on the premises either. Only larger was available. After having a chat with who I assume is the manager, we were told that there was only one member of staff in the kitchen, others had called in sick. We were offered a free desert, which, since we are extremely hungry by now, we have ordered, hopefully this will not take a further hour to arrive, we will see. Usually the food and service is great, but sadly not today. I suggest you check the staffing and refreshments levels prior to being seated.

We placed our meal order at 11,56am. I had a burger with chips, and my fiance had a mixed grill. 50mins later, it arrived. When I asked them 'why the delay' she replied "we only have one person in the kitchen " the others called in sick. Hey, if that's the case then let customer know there may be a delay before they order. Anyway. The meal arrived. Omg... I've NEVER had such a 'DRY, dehydrated burger in my life. I should have sent it back, but I was too damn hungry. When they asked if the meals were OK I promptly answered "NO" . My partners steak should have been medium rare, it was not, and then she tried to say that perhaps the bun on my burger had soaked the juices from the meat, 😲 what a joke!. There was slices of onion and lettuce beneath the bottom of the meat and the bun, and a layer of cheese on the top of the burger before the bun. We were given a complimentary desert at the end. Oh yeah . And the furniture leaves a lot to be desired too. Foot note... DON'T NOTHER!

Laura was fantastic we loved her redesigned breakfast buffet layout. The food was delicious and we had a lovely breakfast.

Have stayed here multiple times throughout the last 3 years and I’m afraid to say it’s only getting worse. The chefs drum and bass loud repetitive banging woke me up at 6am, what does he have in the kitchen a DJ set? So loud that I can hear the lyrics to the songs in my room! When I asked about it they said it’s to keep him in a good mood? And I’m not the first person to mention this…so why hasn’t someone done anything about it? So much for a guaranteed good nights sleep!

Food was amazing and staff were so friendly! Izzy was the server that served me and was very attentive and ensured we were all okay. Ashleigh served me at the bar and was absolutely lovely. Food was hot and fresh, and came out quickly and the whole order was amazing value for money!!! Definitely will be returning here

We went to the Stanope Arms for our Christmas dinner this year, what a wonderful chilled experience it was, the age range was from 23 to 83, we all had fabulous food and the service was absolutely fantastic. I would not hesitate to book again

Regrettably this place is now really plumbing the depths. We’ve been customers for over 15 years and the lack of breakfast items today is appalling. They have run out of all of the pastries, they even ran out of bread for toasting. I’m not sure...

I came to the Stanhope Arms for a birthday meal. The servers/waitresses were more than happy to answer any questions, couldn't be more helpful and always had a smile on their face! Lovely evening!

The Stanhope hosted a reception after a funeral. The buffet supplied was of a good standard, set up ready for our arrival, hot tea and coffee available. Bar staff were under pressure as only one on and service very slow. Overall a good venue.
