Standard Tandoori in Hackney

They advertise a ‘Buffet Night’ in a poster on the door. Didn’t even get through the door when a very rude man (the owner?) told me “it’s finished…a long time ago”. I suggested they should take the poster down then, which he started to do. Went round the corner and had a nice curry at the Lavan’s Spice. As I walked back passed on my way home the poster was back in the window! They are openly LYING to customers advertising a buffet night they don’t actually do! AVOID!!!

love the biryanis , curries rices ect. uncle rav is really nice to me and knows how to handle his customers. he is a really sweet guy with such lovely dishes , if you’re in the area this place is a must try!!

I ordered 2 take away meals for approximately 18£. One meal was completely forgotten and the second meal landed up in the trash because it was totally tasteless. Very disappointed and I’ll never go there again.

Sorry to have to give this kind of review but the three veg dishes ordered all tasted and looked the same - bland and oily. The service bordering on unhelpful.

The absolute worst restraunt I've ever encountered. I called asking for a take away over half an hour before they closed. I was told they had shut already which I would have accepted had they been polite. I was told to "get lost" by the phone operator. I wanted to be fair so I called back and asked for the manager. Same customer service. Truly shocking. Their food also, is awful. Do yourself a favour. Don't even think about ordering or visiting them. You will be insulted, and the food will be disgusting.

This has to be some of the best Indian food we have ever experienced. Don’t let the scruffy condition put you off. If you appreciate perfectly spiced food that is fresh and not greasy then you need to eat here! And if it helps that the bill is exceptional value !! The bill for 3 of us was £83 . That was starters , mains, sides , naans, rice, plus bottle of Hardy’s wine and several beers !! Ws went on Thursday evening and are now awaiting a delivery of their takeaway on Saturday night !

Was looking for a decent Indian on Uber eats and think I’ve found one! The masala was okay! But the lamb chops were amazing! Next time I order I’ll get the mixed grill! My only suggestions would be that I wish they offered mango chutney and/or the curry sauces on their own.

Really delicious, I just had the saag aloo and tarka dal and both were beautifully prepared and so flavourful

I love this place, the food is excellent- fresh and delicious and such good prices. The bhindi bhaji and chicken tikka vindaloo were particularly great! Proper old-school Indian restaurant.

Ordered the lamb Korma and it was too sweeet! I expected a creamy curry, instead got a sugary sauce.

First time I ordered & this place didn’t disappoint The food was great taste I had chicken korma pilau rice onion Bhaji & keema Nan bread it was piping hot & good size portions will definitely be ordering again

The portions are very small considering we spent £81.06 The Indian on Victoria park road has bigger portions. They did say next time our portions will be bigger 😂

The décor is so old it's retro now. Every time we have been there, the staff have greeted half the tables by name so there tends be alot of regulars there. You won't get better value for your money. At £30 for two people we were completely stuffed. It's an old fashioned curry house, one of the last around. Hand written receipt with a mint and hot hand towels at the end.

Fantastic local South Asian restaurant. Nothing ‘standard’ about their large portions and affordable prices. A great place to enjoy an Indian meal, with caring and attentive service. Will be returning or ordering a takeaway in the near future.

Incase you’re eating alone, they will only let you do takeaway. They don’t have any smaller tables.

We ate in and the food was delicious. Service was a bit slow. They do a lot of takeaway and that appeared to take priority over eat in. But it was lovely. I'd certainly get a delivery from here if I was close enough..

Really great, Traditional Indian fare. Ordered a veg Korma, veg Madras, breads (parathra, really flaky and crispy, not heavy and oily), Dahl. The Korma was very good and the Madras was rich and spicy, Tandoori chicken was also a real treat

I stayed in the area for two weeks and returned to the Standard more than once for take out. They do great, authentic, simple and casual Indian food. Very friendly and quick service, too. I went back for the saag paneer and some onion bhuaji, both starters. So good. Really unfussy. They are also really reasonable price wise. A laid back gem hidden in clear sight amongst all the hipster pubs and yet another Gail’s.

The food is amazing and the staff are so nice. This place might not look the best but believe me it’s great. It’s the only Indian I go to now.

My father Ordered 2 whole chicken. Usually he gets charged about £20 which includes a drink. Today they didn’t give any drink- when I called them about the drink. They came back and said drink was £2 and charged more money stating they charge less previously and charged him about £30. Will make sure my father never orders from there again.

Standard Tanduri is my local restaurant, which Located in Victoria Park Road. We get orders regularly since we moved here in 2011. Today we ordered same foods 8pc Tanduri chicken. Normally they used to charge £16 including one litter of Cocoa cola drink. But today they didn’t give drink and charge £20. Afterward, I was phoned them and asked where is our drink. The person replied they doesn’t give free drink. Few minutes later he came with drink and asked extra money as he said £20 was less money for the order. So my brother asked how much Is altogether? He replied £25. Even they didn’t provide receipt. This is the different between good people and bad ,Who takes advantage of the crisis moments. They might have no fear of Allah at All. Please remember these people and treat them in your good time.

I've lived in the area for nearly 9 years and I just love it here. I think it's one of the area's best kept secrets. The curries, naans and starters are all fantastic. I know they make most of they money from takeaway business. I haven't ever tried it...

well accommodated, As I went with 10 of my friends and we was treated very well with everyone’s food on time, price was reasonably and food was nothing but exceptional all in all a very good place to eat. Would highly recommend to give a try.

This is a curry house right out of the 80s; the decor is dated and poor, the service is not very accommodating, and everything is invested the chef delivering remarkable, simple, classic Indian dishes, which he does. The food was a lot lighter and less greasy than the decor suggested. Slightly frustration that they only sell wine by the bottle, and put ice in all the drinks. But for fast, uncomplicated food, this is a winner.

Traditional and friendly. I have been coming here for years. It is still a good price, cheap compared to all the other overpriced restaurants in this area. The food is always good, cooked and presented to usual standard and you never wait long. Staff are always polite and happy to assist with any request.

These people routinely fly-tip their commercial waste at the recycling facility. Oh, and the one time I ate there, 2 years ago, it was dire. Pretty sure everything is flavoured with Heinz Tomato soup! Don't go - it's dreadful....

I have never been disappointed at The Standard. The hot curries may not be the hottest you've ever had, but the breadth and subtlety of the spicing will deliver a most flavoursome meal. Add to this the friendliness of the staff and the relatively inexpensive menu, and what could possibly go wrong? Give it a try, or call for a delivery.

I live next to it. It's cheap. It's good. I eat there a lot. Solid option for an easy meal during the week or some nosh while around vicky Park.

I ordered a take away prawn korma and peshwari nan on Thursday, I can honestly say it is the worst take away I have ever had. The prawns were tiny and it was hard to even find any in the dish water style sauce they came in. It all just felt so fake, was there even any real coconut in it? The sauce was thin and just felt bulked out by some thickening agent. The nan was chewy and again the coconut didn’t seem real. A really disappointing meal after a hard days work and hands down the worst curry I’ve ever had.

I thought that my order came with a free beer based on an offer printed in their brochure. I asked about it when I ordered delivery and thought I was told that was fine. When the driver came, no beer. I mentioned it and was told that the price wasn't high enough after all. I didn't fuss; simply asked where the drink was calmly and shrugged when I didn't get it, no big deal. I call back two months later to order and the employee taking the order tells me (after I give my address) that I must be the guy making problems with his driver. I said I don't think so and he says if I talk to the driver again about a discount, he'll never deliver to me again. Perhaps the driver exaggerated our interaction? Either way, terrible customer treatment here.

I cannot rate the Standard Tandoori highly enough (there should be 10 stars)! Lovely intimate environment and friendly staff. The food is amazing and the prices are very good (we paid £36 for 2 course meal and bottle of wine for 2 people). Classic old-school east-end tandoori.

I've only had take-away once from here and it was amazing! It's quite pricey but very delicious!!!! I'll definitely go back and dine in this time.

It is unfortunate I can't share any good review despite I believe everyone works hard in the restaurant. BUT if the person that answers the phone for take way orders is rude, has no time to listen nor confirms an order than the best food in the world will not overcome that experience. Well in my case it could not at all as oir delivery was short of my dish because the person on the other end did not do his job right. When I called after receiving the delivery his answer was: "well why do you complain we did not charge you for it" - excuse me - I am going to bed hungry and you are telling that I am lucky for the fact you forgot my food order and you managed to charge us correctly. Sorry a restaurant is more than just the food - and that was not great at all. Clearly we won't be a returning customer.

The best Indian I have ever had.

Delivery. Lamb Balti, Saag Paneer and Naan bread. The Naan was good, and food was ok but completely without any spice at all. Kind of soulless eating a Balti with no heat what so ever. Also I ordered a coke and they sent a 200ml bottle, I don’t care about the money they got off me, just that I had no drink with my meal. This seemed like a cheap trick and I took a star off for that..

We love this place! We only ever had take aways from here, but they are very friendly and the food is outstanding. Their garlic naan, naan, bhajis, pakoras, garlic chicken, sag aloo and everything we tried was extremely delicious. You must try! :)

Great service, the staff get to know you if you go now than once. Dogs allowed as long as they keep themselves to themselves!

Pros: They serve beer Cons: Food. We ordered 2 different panner dishes and a Dahl. All 3 were pretty awful..the paneer was cooked in what can only described as a yellow sugary cream. No flavour or spices and the dishes were identical apart from one had peas and the other spinach. The Dahl was half lentil half ghee and very salty. It was so sub standard that we left after a few mouthfuls.

Food was good but very slow! 1 hour for a curry eating in whilst deliveries were going out every 5 mins.

I like it, it's a bit rough around the edges but the service is good and the food good value.

This restaurant serves a purpose, that purpose is people who have no taste or taste buds. Everything (except the dhal) is red. Everything tastes of tomato soup. Nothing has any spice or aromatics. If you are hankering for the 80s - this is your place. If you want flavour - go elsewhere. The saving grace? The table next to us talking about who has the most teeth and who of their mates have the most teeth. Absolutely hilarious.....but never again. Oh, and the staff have perfected the art of politeness with total disinterest.

Best Indian ever 10/10 for everything !

Nos llaman a este lugar el sol indio porque es literalmente el mejor lugar para sentarse cuando el sol se pone. . La comida es precioso, el personal es amable y atento. . He una fría y disfrutar de los últimos rayos de sol - mientras que al otro lado de la calle sentarse en la sombra puedes conseguir los últimos rayos aquí.

The standard has become my Indian restaurant of choice whenever I visit London. I am a regular curry eater and in my opinion the food here is just great at a very reasonable price.The service is good too

Estaba un poco nervioso acerca de entrar en un restaurante tan diminuta, sólo hay 20 cubre! Cuando llegamos estaba lleno a la mitad, así que nos fuimos. La comida era buena, no grasienta y muy sabrosa, y a un precio razonable. Tengo que añadir que la decoración es pobre, y cuando te metes al loos bajando unas escaleras muy dudosa, podría conseguir preocupado, no están sucias, muy cutre. Dicho esto, volveré. Parecía un lugar popular para los amigos para reunirnos.

Good restaurant, extremely affordable and tasty at the same time. The set menu for 1 or 2 people is really good in terms of quantity and quality. The only bad pint is the service... They are not kind, and we were patient and generous.

We had 5 people and did not book so we're very happy to get a table in such a small restaurant and even though there were other people there but we never felt rushed and the food is fabulous. Nothing is to much to ask for and the staff are amazing

We eat here often the last time being last night 7.2.16. The food is always tasty and everything they serve looks perfect. We went as a party of 5 and had a range of dishes from mild to hot and everyone got exactly what they wanted and commented on how delicious it was.The staff are helpful and polite and always make you feel welcome.It is a small restaurant and I feel sure that if they doubled the size it would still be full.

My husband and I went on a rainy sunday eve as we were craving a curry. We were pleasantly surprised with the attentive and friendly staff and the quality of the food.The chicken Pharl was very hot and tasty , the naan was good All dishes felt very fresh and made to order.

This restaurant pretty much lives up to it's name - it is just standard! The food was okay, service was pretty good but nothing to really blow you out the water! If I ever fancied a take-out Indian I would go back but only as a lazy meal option.

Oh dear! As a vegan I'm always so hopeful when I go to Indian restaurants that I'll have something both tasty and filling to eat. I am never moved to write bad reviews but this time I have to let my veggie loving fellow humans know just how disappointing the portions are here. I ordered a selection of side dishes and the boxes I was given were not even a third full! There was barely a scraping of spinach in fact, in one of the boxes amongst the dishes I ordered. I will not be going back and I advise others not to waste their money here.
