Really happy to have tried out this restaurant tonight. It’s fairly discreet from the outside, but nice and cost inside. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. The food was to a good level and very well priced. Will definitely return! Now I must walk home with a full belly 😆

Such a good local Indian restaurant with kind staff and flavourful food!

I have been eating there for over twenty years but lately it seems to have gone down hill. Food quality isn't as good and the packaging is terrible the is always leaking. I phoned to complain yesterday for the first time as most of my food was in the bag Instead of the containers and got balmed off.

Visiting friends and they took me to this restaurant which they always go to, I can now see why. The staff are very friendly and take their time, so you don't feel rushed. The food was amazing, I order a chicken Dansak when I'm back home, so I ordered it here. Well... Have to admit this one was much tastier and hotter than the one I have back home. The sauce was smooth, just watch out for them chillies, you will know if you eat it and nice portions. Overall it's definitely worth a visit

Really lovely atmosphere and food

Got takeaway from here. Chicken tikka masala was not a tikka masala. Looked and tasted sweet and coconutty. Was basically a very sweet chicken korma. Called to complain and the guy tells me it’s how they do it, even though it was yellow and not red. The tarka daal was lacking flavour and more like a soup. The rotis were bad too. 3 rice came even though we ordered 2. Will not buy again

Great curry house on Church St Stoke Newington. Got there at 11pm last night after the Spurs vs City Cup game and they STILL served my son + I with a delicious takeaway curry. Top drawer!

This is my fave Indian restaurant in stokey. It’s been here forever and I hope it never goes away. They are always happy to accommodate changes which is proof the food is super fresh and it’s always so tasty. I’m no longer local, however every time I return I have to make a visit.

I'd been here many years ago and remembered it as an enjoyable experience. Service really good, but just a bit disappointed with the food. Had chicken samosa to start with. Wasn't the normal filo pastry and whilst it did come with fresh salad, they also put tomato ketchup on the side. Completely set the wrong tone. Had chef's special, and whilst not bad at all, just didn't blow me away. A bit bland. My partner also had one of the chefs specials and whilst there was a good coconut flavour, that was about it. If your expecting a standard Indian meal, then you'll be happy, but certainly doesn't stand out as any thing special.

Great food and service as always. I always fund it be relaxed, the restaurant is immaculate and cosy. I have been coming here for 30 years and the service and food has always been impeccable.

I've had takeaways from here a few times and the food is ok and the price reflects the food .. On my way home from work I preordered my food request. One butter chicken, two chicken tikka masala with three garlic nann breads. When I got home and took the food out of the bag, I could see the sauce was everywhere apart from the container it came in. I was going to let that slide, until I opened all three containers and realised that they gave me three butter chickens and not the two chicken masalas I requested. I called the restaurant up, thinking they would want to know they made a mistake and that I was one unsatisfied customer. When I explained the situation to the chap on the phone, he basically said it was my fault I didn't carry the bag properly and the butter chicken and the chicken tikka masala share the same sauce. The difference between the dishes is that they cut the?chickin differently.. I must of thought I was born yesterday.. I remember the tikka masala having an my reddish look. I like to add that the nann bread not tasting freshly made.. I felt completely robbed by these this restaurant.. Trying to fobb off with two dishes I didn't order and give me three of tbe same thing. I won't be going there again!!!

Probably the best curry I’ve ever had! Delicious Bengali food and really lovely, friendly staff. So affordable especially considering how good the food was. All in all a wonderful experience - can’t wait to go back!

Inside decor is lovely and quaint. A lovely place to go for a quite dinner with the right ambience of instrumental chilled Indian music. Had the thali and some curries and poppadoms. All very nice and flavoursome. On the curry scale, I'd say this Indian restaurant was more traditional restaurant rather than fusion or contemporary. If you're vegetarian or vegan then I'd suggest aiming for specialised Indian restaurants for the authentic experience.

Was recommended this place and the guys were very accommodating and helpful. Will say did have a after taste of oil from my dish.

1981 - 2023 Not dined in for years but staff were very attentive and food spot on, now I rely on delivery once a week. I'll say it - THE BEST in Stokey if not London. Never had a bad meal; chicken is 'real chicken' not defrosted diced Chicken. The Lamb is always tender without any gristle or fat. Fish is perfectly cooked (try their Beef dishes - quite a surprise to me) I've probably gone through everything on the menu over the years. Ask for something not on the menu and there's no problem. Quality shines throughout. Drivers very friendly and food arrives fast and hot. John

It was okay - not much spice on all dishes I ordered. Naan was pretty standard, curry was gritty and meat was overcooked.

The service and the place is lovely, and they also cater for toddlers too . 👍

We have been customers for more than 7 years (weekly). Tonight they sent me inedible samosa. I phoned for replacement (less than a mile), I was told they would credit me for next week. When ever they get things wrong they won't deal with it on the day. Meaning someone has to go without. Their treatment of customers is appaling. Thats the last time I use them hope the go bust.

I’ve dined in near enough every Indian restaurant around islington, stoke newington and everywhere , this is by far the best Indian food at a BIR. It’s rich, tasty and every dish is completely individual, not like the generic base gravy dishes. I urge everyone to try this food. Pleeeeease!!! You won’t be disappointed at all!

Everything was delicious and fresh. The Bombay Duck and Persha..(something) Lamb especially stand-put..so tender.

I haven't seen duck on an Indian menu before, I went for the duck bhuna and was very happy with it - there was a lot of meat, and it was well cooked, very tender!

my husband and I booked a table for 7pm,for dinner on Saturday 7 Jan. we were very excited ,hadn’t been to the restaurant for 30 years,used to be our regular go to years ago in our 20s. We were seated on arrival,and basically forgotten about.Waiter brought only one menu,when asked for another one didn’t look to happy. No water brought to table despite trying to get the waiters attention ,no one attempted to make us feel welcome.We got up to leave after 30 mins ,as no one even notice us,when I told a staff member it was a disappointing experience, he shrugged his shoulders and didn’t even apologise. Never mind ,must have been fate,we left and went to Yum Yums around the corner who know how to make a customer feel welcome and service was excellent. What a shame our experience at karnapuli was a big disappointment,tip to manager,be around when your restaurant is busy. Tip to customers,if your looking for poor to mediocre service you’ll be fine,I can’t comment on the food as we didn’t get to try it, won’t be back.

Fantastic local authentic Indian restaurant with great Lamb Dansak reasonably priced

Making our way up Church St on Saturday evening and we made the inspired decision to enquire about availability at this restaurant. The friendly reception is wonderfully matched by the overall cosy ambience of the dining area, tables close but not too close and the hum of conversation from our fellow diners. Time did not allow for us to give a full examination of the menu offerings so we limited ourselves to three mains, all receiving enthusiastic thumbs up. We most definitely be back for more.

Booked at short notice and was greeted with excellent service and fantastic, tasty and great value food. Highly recommend.

Me and my friend decided to go out to eat after a bad day to cheer us up, we have lived in the area for over 25 years. We arrived there around 9pm and ordered two starters which they gave us old salad and uncooked meat. We waited for nearly two hours for our main and I need to get home to my son, so by the time the food came I had to leave, and informed the manager that the salad was extremely old was literally dehydrated. And that everyone else had come after us and served before us. The manager in return was extremely patronising and unnecessary went on to tell me he had been in the business for 45 years and knew what he was doing? But how you been in the business for 45 years and be amazing at it and not retired? I told him I didn’t asked for that information to where my friend had now responded that you’ve been now shouting at us all over the food that you are now expecting us to eat. Due to the fact that me and my friend do look extremely young he turned around and replied with we can usually tell when people like YOU come in are not going to pay to which I replied with your being discriminating towards us which he responded to with a smile. At this point my friend had left and I paid the bill even though we had nothing to essentially eat not even finished our drinks. Just because we was the only people not drunk enough to eat your raw food nor could handle that you thought two young women would be able to converstate with him like that. All he did was shout while we spoke honestly if I didn’t need to go home to my son the night would have ended differently would never recommend. Appalling customer service

This place is rated really highly with locals. After living 10 years in Stoke Newington I tried it for the first time tonight and experienced the poorest service and the blandest food. We ordered a glass of water when we were seated and after requesting it 4 times received it half way through our mains. We complained about the jalfrezi and were met with insults and aggression. In the end on principle we refused to pay for the jalfrezi and the service which they would not accept and accused us of having no money and told us to f***k off. We paid for the food we ate and left. Not sure if they would have been as aggressive and rude had we both been male rather than female?

Delicious food consistently delivered on time - the butter chicken and paneer jalfrezi combo is brilliant - we’ve never had a bad dish from here so thanks!

Terrible food. Worst curry house i have tasted in London. Food not freshly cooked. Grilled chicken was almost disintegrating - probably a few days old. Same with the staters. Don't enter!

Not even close to sub continent food. The main curry looks similar and they just add different types of meat in it as per order. The biryani is miles away from authentic biryani and peshawari kebab was served with pineapple. Who the hell add pineapples in peshawari kebab. Highly disappointing.

Worst Indian restaurant I've been to the bread was so cold and it took 2 hours for my food to come i would never come here ever again

I wasn’t expecting more than a decent curry but this place really exceeded expectations. The food was absolutely delicious and great value for money. The service was really pleasant and attentive too. The decor was also lovely, there’s a lot of paintings by Bangladeshi artists on the walls which add a nice touch. Can’t fault the place at all! Will definitely be coming back here.

Very small portions, suitable for a child. Main dishes come in a side dish foil container. The food is very tasty but the curry’s lacked sauce. The delivery was also slow - we were told 50 minutes and waited 1.5 hours. When we called to ask how long it would be, the restaurant said they were cooking everything “fresh” - well what else? Given the extra 40 minute wait we didn’t receive any free popadoms or apology for the long wait. The price does not reflect portion size.

Horrible menu lots of repetition same food for different prices rip off, bad service and burnt food and a long wait service. Unfortunately we went to karnaphuli to enjoy a lovely Bangladeshi cuisine, we were terribly treated. We felt as the other customers were getting food before. We waited 2 hours for a starter and other 1 hour for main course. We also was no satisfy with services and we decided to ask them if they can remove service charge but we were told No every body pays service charge and that we should too. It is also illegally printed on their menu. Ripping people off. The waiter took my money and didnt give me my change back for service charge and when I told them to give me back my change. The waiter acted as he was deaf as if he cannot hear me and totally ignored me. They even argued back . Horrible We thought it's a great asian resturant to dine in unfortunately after the service we had we wont be coming back. Food was BURNT.

Excellent Indian food in a non-pretentious setting. Service is friendly and the staff couldn’t be nicer. The menu js massive so it’s hard to pick but everything we had was excellent with my personal favorite being the momos. Great place!

I used be a regular, regular during my 20s and recently moved back east and oh dear how I've missed Karnaphuli. It always feels cozy and homemade with fresh ingredients.

I hadn't been here for years and so was hoping it was still as good as I'd remembered. It did not disappoint, the food tasted fresh and each dish had amazingly complex flavours. We ordered the lamb madras and chicken Dhansak with a few sides to compliment...all really delicious. Will be back! :)

This restaurant has seen me and my partner through lockdown. A classic Indian, amazing food every time and lovely people. Could not recommend more. Get the Gujarati Thali (veg) or the Chef's special.

I can’t believe we are just about to move out of the area and have just discovered THE BEST CURRY IN STOKE NEWINGTON. This restaurant has been going for 40 years or something. The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Some top hits from the menu are; the onions salad and poppadoms with dips - the salad is really fresh and tasty. We love the tandoori king prawn madras curry and the Bengali fish curry. So so so good! And doesn’t weigh you down or feel greasy like some others. Enjoy!

This has been one of our favourite Indian restaurants for years, and after getting take aways and trying a few other places recently we realised Karnaphuli is the best. We had a take away last night and it was even better than the last time. Delivery is reasonably quick and the prices and service is great.

Seen a few bad reviews, so I thought I will add... the date is 26 September 2020. I placed an order for home delivery and I have to say the food/order was exceptionally outstanding on every dish.. very satisfied so much so thats why I'm adding this review... Karnaphuli will always be on speed dial for my orders... thanks you guys keep up the great food...

Has been my favourite since 1990

Have been here several times and have always enjoyed the food despite the budget service. Nonetheless, tonight’s experience has made it impossible for me to ever return. Towards the end of our meal two ladies to the left of us let out a massive scream before my girlfriend wailed in fright. A large rat had run out of the back corner across their legs behind us into the restaurant. The table behind us were disgusted and two of the waiters came over grinning. Both were laughing and claiming the rat had entered through the front door, had someone evaded all other customers, and we were over reacting. They also claimed they had already given us a discount (no, that’s the eat out to help out scheme) and would call the police if we complained further. They were aggressive and confrontational. A great meal ruined by some unpleasant service.

Possibly the worst service my family has ever gotten - wait staff kept running off seconds after asking if we were ready to order, food took over an hour to get to us, we didn't get all of the food we ordered but we're still billed for it, one of the dishes was immediately sent back because it was burnt to a crisp and smelt of wet dog - completely inedible - and they refused to take it off the bill, and after half an hour waiting for our bill after asking for it, it took us threatening to leave without paying to finally get out of there. Incredibly rude staff. And before you think "Oh it must have been busy, everyone else was probably waiting just as long", all three of the adjacent tables were seated, ordered, ate, billed, and left, between the time we arrived and when we finally got out of there. Unacceptable.

The food was nice. The evening was ruined when a rat ran into my foot. Unfortunately the waiting staff proceeded to claim the rat had come from the outside and was not an issue and that I shouldn’t be worried.

Friendly staff. Delicious food and delivery on time.

Not Mughlai food as we thought it would be. Passable fair. Absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. Keen to get you in and get you out. Asked the bloke twice what region the menu was based on and he looked at me like i had lost my mind.

Good taste, but very oily. The biggest problem though was that they had the audacity to charge a 90p cover charge for TAKEAWAY!!! It’s not mentioned anywhere on their website menu, and leaves a very bad taste in the mouth. I’ve never encountered anything like it in 40 years. Very unlikely to return.

Have nothing to say other than amazing service, amazing food and amazing people. Food always on point and you will not be disappointed! Genuine traditional and clean food, will always come here when im feeling a curry. Thank you @karnaphuli

Been going to this restaurant for 35 years plus. Food never disappoints and neither does the service or staff waiting on us. I’ve been here for many occasions - Valentine, birthdays, farewell dinners, graduation celebrations and just because...the ambience fits every time. I’ve recommended to friends over the years and they too haven’t been disappointed. My favourite Asian/Indian restaurant of all time ❤️

Nice Ambiance, Nice Venue and the food was 10 out of 10!! Not to mention the great customer service. Seated straight away, food came piping hot, just the way I like it. Warmed plates. No complaints and all value for money. First time here, but will not be the last

Delicious food, good varieties of vegetarian dishes as well as fish and meat. Excellent Naan. Open till late (12am) it’s a next bonus. Recommended.

Thanks Karnaphuli for helping us make a decision. To never set foot in your restaurant again. In a fairly quiet restaurant we were seated at a small table in the far corner well out of the way.. Other couples were given a 4 seater table in the front part of the restaurant. And we were disappointed in the quality of the food..just didn’t taste like it use to ... been coming here on an off for the last five years too ... so I’m not note 👎🏻😢

My parents and I enjoyed this a lot. Nice food - we had a jalfrezi, a bhuna and a dansak. Meal for three with wine for less than £60. Great Indian food - average wine and friendly service at a good price. Would definitely come back.

Very average, dry as defrosted (as they can't all the items from the huge menu on order) .if not dry, super oily (top up with oil)... Just spent £16 there for basic plain Indian food.

Gosh. The prawn Jalfrezi was tasty but super hot! If you like your chillies then great. If not, be warned!
