Standard Tandoori Restaurant in Sandwell

First time I have ordered from here and I have to say the food was amazing I really can't praise this restaurant enough so amazing

Very sad to say we had a bad experience on Saturday 13th January, this was due to lack of staff and continuous take aways. The problem was the wait time and been very cold, the priority was the take away service which took first place. As there was only one member of staff he was taking the orders and seeing to the delivery people. It was very cold in the restaurant and due to the continuous footfall they was bringing in the cold from outside. We waited a long long time between courses, but the food was very good.

Normally very good.Last night was terrible freezing cold in restaurant only one person serving tables extremely long wait for food starters and main meals. more interested in take away orders outside door to street constantly opening did not enjoy food due to feeling so cold.

Friendly and accommodating restaurant. Always have a great curry and a great night here. Superb value and BYOB. Good menu and food always arrives hot, fresh and full of flavour. Try it- you won't be dissapointed!

I’ve been using this place for over 30 years but the curry is nowhere near as good as it used to be. The Madras was not hot enough and everything had too much tomato in. Very disappointed.

Wow .... my partner comes from London and was astounded with the flavors going on with this food. Absolutely fantastic food and flavor. This is a special find restaurant, run of the mill high street gem! Fabulous beautiful people and food. Make an experience here, you won't be disappointed. Happy taste buds happy people. I know everyone has their own favourite curry house but we gave this a try for the first time and have been back since, chose somthing off the menu that I hadn't had before anywhere and really enjoyed it, take your own alcohol and the naan breads are fantastic,cash only.

Very good staff and their food is excellent just tell the counter person how you like your curry and they will make it the way you want it couldn't ask for more

This used to be my go to curry house. Haven't been since moving away and won't be rushing back. Can no longer get a drink there, the service was incredibly slow, food eas average and it wasn't until halfway through the meal we noticed the cash only sign. What business these days only excepts cash....dodgy ones.

People stay well away from this liein rude owner of standard. We are from the same region we ordered for us all called asked for what we wanted. Waited 2 hours 20 minutes called spoke to the owner. First he said so sorry we are busy 10 minute we will be there. Half hour later food come so cold we know how a good Indian food should be like. It's people like this place standard whom can even make standard Indian food let alone even dream to cook anywhere close to real Indian,Bangladeshi food. Stay away from them they sell food saying its good indian cuisine but its only the worst cheap cuts of meat chicken. Cooked weeks in advance please believe us stay away

Very nice place for family and company meetings. Your own drinks are allowed so don't forget to bring it with you.

Having never been to this curry house before we nearly missed it driving past. On looking in was quiet however decided to give it a try. Wow the food was amazing. Portions were good prices very good. Probably the best curry we have had in a long time and probably our now new favourite restaurant. Ordered chicken tikka masala, chicken madras, chips, rice and cheese keema naan which was amazing. Definitely returning.

Great food. Good service. Had a family event for 20 people, they dealt with it really well and added an extra candle on cake 🎂.

We have been visiting this curry house for thirty years. We no longer live in Birmingham and have tried very hard to find a curry house as good as Standard Tandoori in our area, and other places we regularly visit. But this place is the real deal. Delicious meals, excellent and friendly service, surprisingly good value, and the best mint sauce I have ever tasted (order lots of poppadoms to make the most of it!). Small, local independent restaurants such as this are a dying breed. But they are such a welcome alternative to the usual corporates. Standard Tandoori should be at the top of your list when eating Indian food in Birmingham. I wish I lived closer! Please visit and enjoy. You will not he disappointed.

Great food have been coming for 41 years

Last week saw yet another meal here and again they didn't fail to impress...quality food and top service with excellent value and a meal deal on for 4 days a week.. Well done again guys...

Just finished another awesome meal at Standard Tandoori! We have been coming here for many years and have always enjoyed the food ( absolutely delish) and service ( always super welcoming, attentive and polite). Best prawn on puri by miles ( our favourite dish). They do a fantastic set menu deal on Sundays which we use often and the fact that you can bring your own alcoholic drinks ( free of charge) to enjoy with your meal is a huge bonus. We also often use their delivery service ( you get a discount if you order via their website directly). 100% recommend.

As good as it gets, stunning food and staff now unlicensed so bring your own drinks. But first thing first the food is delicious.

We wanted somewhere reliable where you could take your own drinks for eight people for surprise 70th birthday. It could not have possibly ben better. The food was lovely, service impeccable,. Nothing was too much trouble including organising the cake, candles and fireworks (supplied by the restaurant). They were quite happy to supply plates and spoons to eat the cake for dessert with ice cream. And it came to less than fifteen quid a head. Marvellous. Thank you.

Decent food. Decent service. Disappointed that we found out after ordering that it's cash only and had to walk all the way to The Halifax to get cash. That really spoiled the day after visiting other businesses that refuse to take cash in the current climate.

Went for a family meal tonight (2 adults and 1 Child). The service was very good and we all really enjoyed our food. Our eyes were bigger than our bellies and we went for popadoms, starters and mains. All nicely presented, flavoursome and generous portions. Very full now but equally very satisfied. I would recommend and we will go back. 24.04.2022 - yet another great meal. Went tonight for a birthday celebration and the food and service was great - as usual👍🏼

I was expecting high standards of food as it was recommended to me .so my son's 21st we decided to give the standard a go through Uber eats . O dear the food was awful . samoas were hard .onion bhajis were overcooked like rubber .chips were hard & under cooked .the tikka baltis three bits of rubber chicken I think questionable ??.king prawn balti three prawns all sauce no substance .it was just inedible .I felt sorry for my son .the lot went in the bin .either the chef had an off day or we had left overs .so disappointed

There's a reason why it's called The Standard; as they set the standard for which all other curries shall be judged. My family and I have visited hear many years before even moving locally. It's has always been well known and highly thought of. Family run, friendly people who get know the names of their customers. Fresh food, amazing flavours, and superb value. This place is a credit to the local area. Sadly I now live much further away, however whenever I visit friends in the local area, I always suggest we go here after drinks. Keep up the good work guys

Amazing food, probably the best restaurant around

Brilliant! We ordered starters, a Balti and scampi and chips for delivery. All arrived on time, hot, free extra's and a very good price. Never used them before but we are going to in the future. Well done guys.

Standard Tandoori ... not just standard fare... they SET the standard

Ive been using this restaurant since I was 17 (34 years ago) and it has always been superb. We had a delivery from them earlier this evening and this was wonderful. I can’t recommend this place highly enough for those that love Indian food

Marcus and I went here a couple of weeks ago.We hadnt been for 2 years or so.Service, food and atmosphere great.Garlic chilli chicken was the best ever.

Me and my mates have been going here every Wednesday for a number of years. The food is always fresh and of good quality and very consistent. The family that run the restaurant are really friendly and always welcoming. We all love the Pathia and the naan breads are something else. This is a definite go to place if you fancy one of the best curries in the area.

Back eating inside after far too long but omg what a difference!! Totally refitted interior with new bar area tables chairs etc etc etc Thankfully the food and sevice are still amazing....well done to all at the standard....I will be back for sure...to the rest of you CHECK IT OUT!!!

Lovely staff and the food is amazing.

I always get my takeaways from the Standard Tandoori but this evening there was a mix up with Just Eat and there was a problem with the delivery. This was not the restaurant's fault. The Standard were polite (as was the brilliant delivery driver) under pressure and when we eventually got our food, it was delicious. It is also excellent value. From now on I will order directly from their website or phone.

Just Eat messed up my order but Standard Tandoori were still wonderfully courteous and understanding, and so was the delivery driver. The food was lovely and excellent value. All hail the brilliant Standard Tandoori. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Been getting takeaways here for a couple of years now. Best curry around, good produce and a great selection. The delivery time is bang on as well. Friendly people too place

Great food, was provided with additional food free of charge. Lots of variety on the menu. Always my go to place for indian food.

The food is authentic, fresh and delicious. Just had a proper and calm dinner here served by a friendly and helpful staff. Have to mention the Thursday/Sunday dine-in offer which is a 4 course meal for 11 quids, which should be more than enough for an average person. Would visit again. P.S.: Do not forget to bring some cash and your favourite alcoholic beverages as they are not licensed for that.

Friendly atmosphere, lovely food

This restaurant has been in Bearwood for years ,amazing curries , I have been coming here with my family for years . The food is so authentic and tastes just like home cooking . If you’re looking for a decent curry come here ! The staff are very helpful and it is a family run business so they care about there customers and the dishes are very generous. The saag curry is amazing.

I had the mixed grill starter followed by a Chicken Tikka Pathia with pilau rice and Naan. Decent Portions on meals, I would highly recommend!

The staff were extremely attentive, without being overbearing. Plenty of food, we took our own alcohol and they provided glasses and bottle opener. Cannot praise the food highly enough. Definitely recommend anyone to go and enjoy the food. Certainly will be returning! Highly recommend this place

This place is a hidden jem in Bearwood. The food is beautiful - so full of flavour and so reasonably priced compared to other places close by. Would highly recommend. And the staff are lovely!

Booked a table for 6 people for my partner's birthday, taking our own cake. The staff were extremely attentive, without being overbearing. Pile of tasteless slop no flavour at all.. very bland and waste of money

Another fantastic meal at the Standard Restaurant. The food is always first class as is the friendly staff and owner. Nothing is ever too much trouble. Combined with there Thursday and Sunday £10.95 offer you really carnt go wrong. Give them a try you wont be disappointed.

The delivery time was great. But food is below average and tasteless. The starter looked very unappealing and greasy.

A hidden gem of sorts. Although on the main road through Bearwood, this little restaurant isn't the easiest to find if you don't know the area. Parking is not available so you do have to park elsewhere but the food and service is well worth it. Despite the premises not being licenced, you are permitted to take your own alcohol.

The food was distinctly average. Yes it was busy & the service was good. However after finishing, when I came to pay & had ordered a taxi, it was only then they decided to inform me the card machine wasn't working & I had to pay cash. This required a dash to a cash point keeping the taxi waiting. Not impressed at all.

Ordered on just eat, restuarant accepted the order and then cancelled it 7 minutes before it was due for arrival. Unprofessional, should at least call to apologise.

I hesitated about writing this review, because I know a lot of others really rate this restaurant.I ordered food on their website. The process was easy to use.Got to the restaurant after about 30 minutes, to then have to wait for quite a while for the food. There were only 4 diners in the restaurant that evening. The restaurant looked unclean, and in need of refurbishment to me.Got home with the food and ate it immediately. I'm not sure how, but the food wasn't hot. It was the worst curry I've ever eaten. The nan bread was cold, thick and doughy. I happened to pick up a reduced price identical curry at Asda the following day - it was far tastier than the one I'd paid a lot more for at Standard Tandoori.I wanted to like this place, and went out of my way to go there, but I shan't go again.

The restaurant is family restaurant run, they care passionately about there quality of the food they serve. The food is fantastic, the curries have plenty of taste, the staff are friendly and the service is again excellentPortion sizes are good, you can bring your own alcohol. We are regular customers and wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Stopped in West Bromwich to see Albion play on Tuesday the 22nd. We decided to try somewhere new for tea and chose this place after seeing trip advisor reviews.This a no nonsense curry house serving excellent food. The Murghi Masalla was superb as where the starters.One note of caution no licence... so take your own beer or wine.Shall definitely return here.

I used to come here all the time, right from a young age. My mum used to come here too when she was my age. It was always a great place to come after a night out or to come for a bite to eat as a family meal. Unfortunately since it has been taken over I've noticed a massive drop in the food quality. I've given this place a few chances before writing this review but after my last visit I was extremely disappointed. My once beloved restaurant now finally matches the name in which it holds. Standard... Providing standard food.

The kitchen clearly uses quality ingredients and tailor dished to suit. We often order dishes with modifications and because all the food is cooked to order - the results are clear. With various offers available, there is something for everyone. Try it - you will be impressed.
