Stamford's House Restaurant & Take-Away in East Riding of Yorkshire

Wow. This is the best Chinese food I’d had in ages. Tastes so fresh and delicious. We had several standard Chinese dishes and they were excellent. We also ordered a Thai green curry and while it isn’t over-the-top authentic, it was very tasty, spicy and delicious. And the prices are super affordable. About £7 per dish. This is definitely our new go-to Chinese takeaway. Note: no delivery and it’s cash only, so come prepared.

Food I had tonight wasn't even average at best, not sure what the chicken in the house special was and not sure my stomach is agreeing with it right now, the pieces were tough overcooked some even were like jelly to bite into. Service wasn't great either girl behind the counter looked to be more interested in her Instagram followers than her customers in the shop. The shop itself well doesn't really stand out well in its location. Dirty curtain shielding god knows what that lies in the kitchen, had a quick glance and my advice would be to ignore the 4.3 stars it currently has and maybe safer grabbing a supermarket ready meal chinese. Spent over 20 pounds this evening and didn't even get a bag of prawn crackers like you do in our town!

The place itself to go collect the food looks like an old doctors surgery but would recommend the food. I got a chicken dish, mushroom chow mein which was delicious, chips which weren't overcooked, curry sauce which was the perfect level of spice and veg spring rolls which weren't ridiculously crispy. My friends got seafood dishes which they weren't big fans of, so possibly avoid prawn dishes? My food was delicious either way. Would order again.

We normally get a take away every week but lately the quality has dipped significantly It's either a different group of chefs and/or a change to some cheaper ingredients. The end result is that we'll have to stop supporting this local business and go elsewhere

Sizzling Plate Indian Resteraunt was visited by my husband and myself for the first time tonight. The food was delicious and the staff were amazing. Will definitely return 😍

My family and I have enjoyed the occasional takeaway from Stamford Chinese for years. It is nearby and convenient for us. The food is good and we've not had a problem until last night. I ordered over the phone early evening and was told it would be a 45min wait. I thought that was reasonable for a busy Saturday night. When I arrived on time there were another approximately 15 customers in the room, all looking very irritated. I struggled my way to the desk and eventually gave my name. Loud screaming could be heard from the kitchen. Over the next hour I was repeatedly told my order would be '10 mins', 'a bit longer ', '20 mins'. Other customers in that room had ordered 3 hours ago! I understand that on busy nights there may be a bit of a wait and I am happy to accept that. However the real issue for me was that they kept accepting more orders over the phone, and some these were collected within 20 mins. There was no explanation given to the hungry crowd of people gathering at their front desk. After an hour, I ended up cancelling my order and walking away from the chaotic situation.

Customer service was fine....just think the food is not good! No egg in the egg fried rice, butterfly prawns over-cooked and like bricks. The food in general tasted like it was 3 days old. Not good at all. Such a shame

Excellent friendly ambience with super Duper food.

I think this is a lovely Chinese and have been a regular for nearly 2 years and have never had any issues until last night. The man on the phone was impatient and rude but when I went to collect he was even ruder. Couldn't smile, say hello, please, thank you (you know the basics of customer service and being human) and seemed very annoyed that I paid partly by bank transfer which is how I normally pay. If you want your business to do well don't have him front of house.

Well.. what can I say about the take-away we had this evening. Absolutely delicious and probably one of the best we’ve had in a long time. I had the King Prawns in chilli and garlic. The sauce was gorgeous, big, fat juicy prawns and plenty of them. Hubby had the special fried rice ( a few more prawns in it next time??) with curry sauce and salt & pepper chips. Divine. The prawn crackers were really tasty - a great big bag of them as well. Service was quick. Will definitely be trying another one very soon.

We order takeaways from here, always ready on time and piping hot. Service is very quick and pleasant and the food is always very good, never had a bad one from here.

First time we have used the takeaway service. Very tasty meals and generous portions. Procedures clearly set out to deal with the current pandemic situation. Would recommend.

I've never had any problems ordering a takeaway or the food from here. Eveything is always tasty and delicious. There are always lots of locals ringing in orders and picking up their orders even on a weekday. Some of my favourites are the Aromatic crispy duck, Salt and pepper king prawns, Curry sauce, Roast duck in plum sauce, Chicken Curry, Lemon chicken, Fried thick noodles with chicken.

Best Chinese I have ever had that plum sauce was made by angels I have honestly never tasted anything so good in my life. As I write this tears of happiness are dropping into my screen but I’m wiping them away and saving them as they taste like plum sauce. When I die I want to die drowning in your plum sauce. Thank you for the most amazing Chinese food I have ever had. That plum sauce though.. I am literally the happiest person ever right now...what do you put in it!? Don’t answer, I don’t want to know. I hope every dream I have for the rest of my life involves your plum sauce. I’m going to name my children after you

Use this place a lot as it’s on the door step but tonight 19/6/19 I have never met a man so rude then the man who took my order tonight when home with the food I couldn’t even eat it is was horrible loads of garlic bits in it but oddly it was tasteless shame it’s gone down hill fast

Great Chinese food, lovely staff

Lost a loyal customer today. This place has repeatedly got our order wrong but because it is local and food is ok we have always just put up with it. Unfortunately today was the last straw as we were treated badly by the incredibly rude man behind the counter who clearly wasn’t bothered about having our business. Walked out before we even finished ordering as we felt such a burden to him. A smile and politeness to paying customers goes a long way. Will be travelling to Pocklington or Mr Chus instead from now on.

Popped in here for a takeaway after driving to the Weir Holiday Park. The exterior nearly put us off going in ! We had chicken chow mein, chicken fried rice, and a duck dish. They were ok, but lacked a little flavour. Certainly had better.

Food is delicious, never had a problem with them x

Apart from serving up very tasty food the Take Away part of Stamford House, I am always amazed at the speed in which the ordered dishes are prepared - a sure way to keep customers satisfied!!

Brilliant food! Portion sizes are huge and it's reasonably priced. Starters are definitely worth a try, we had most of them and cant say a bad word about them! Bbq ribs are so nice and the prawn toast is the best ive eaten. I had beef chow mein as a main and would get it again! Will definitely be back!

We always use this place for a takeaway when we're staying a the folks caravan a few villages away. Always been spot on and it's great to nip in into the Sam Smiths pub over the road for a few cheeky jars before picking the food up ;)

This Chinese is very impressive, from phoning our order through, to picking it up & then eating it took less than half hour & 7 of us ate & thoroughly enjoyed everything

Tried a take away, nothing particularly wrong but nothing particularly good either. Fairly basic fare without much of a kick behind any of our dishes. One suspicion, when the curtains shielding the cooking area were parted the impression was of a scruffy, potentially unhygienic kitchen.

Heard good reports, so tried a take away. Made a round trip of over twenty miles, don't think I would do this again, but if passing on the way home I would call again. The meal itself was satisfactory, the only negative was one dish was not as ordered, duck with pineapple should have been duck in plum sauce. Looking at previous reviews this seems to be a regular occurrence.

Very impressed by the meal I had tonight, one of the best Chinese I've had very tasteful finished every mouthful, on the outside yes it does look a bit rough, but it's all about what's inside

Orderd a take away and the man behind the counter was extremely rude and impatient. To the point I came out nearly crying. If you value costumer service and politeness avoid here at all costs.

We have been going to this Chinese takeaway for quite a few year, it's now changed hands. The food portions are now a lot smaller and the food is not as described in the menu I.E the OK sauce was not OK sauce.

Hay un nuevo menú, nuevas personas han tomado por seis meses. El servicio es bueno y con una sonrisa y la comida es también muy buena. Regresamos así que es una buena señal.

No es el más saludable y, sin embargo, para una comida para llevar, el personal es siempre muy acogedor, el menú es variado y la comida es de buena calidad.Si simplemente desean una rápida para llevar y no quieren viajar lejos, no te puedes equivocar. Sí, hay otros lugares que sirven mejor comida china, pero para un pueblo para llevar dinero y la identificación realmente recomiendo este.

Went in to order staff looked different, looked at menu it was different ordered the food paid Drove home my wife and I both said its not the same. The business looks like it has changed hands. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

Genuinely not had a bad meal from this Chinese. Would recommend. Could be seen as expensive but good value.

We visited the takeaway twice whilst on holiday locally and the food was very good. Decent portions and very quick service, recommend anyone to visit.

Después de haber visitado por la comida un número de veces antes del cambio de titularidad que estábamos un poco preocupados después de leer algunas de las críticas recientes. El estilo Hong Kong, dulce y agria era delicioso y abundante. El pollo de alubias negras y pollo en salsa satay fueron un éxito con la familia junto con la sal y la pimienta, alitas de pollo. Lamentablemente se olvidaron de mi tostada de gambas que estaba pagado, no volver ya que habría estropeado el resto de la comida. Volveremos de nuevo

Comer en el restaurante o para llevar este lugar tiene una extensa y amplia oscilaba menú sirve auténtica comida oriental, bien cocinada. Teníamos llevar así que sólo puedo opinar que el empleado que tratamos con nuestra orden era amable y educado. Buen tamaño de las porciones de comida sabrosa. No vayas un martes ya que cierra. Muy bien recomendado.

El 29 de julio de 2016. Comida muy buena y abundante. Podría haber conseguido sin arranque. Los precios necesariamente relación calidad-precio. El personal era muy agradable y servicial. No se desanime por la decoración que requiere actualización. Sin usar el restaurante de nuevo. Lado para llevar también muy concurrida.

Llamado en cenar bocadillos. Elegimos Sal y Pimienta costillas seguido de pollo con Anacardos. Las costillas estaban realmente con carne con grasa y no no eran insoportables, como puede ser el caso a veces en otro lugar. El pollo tenía un número de verduras añadido incluyendo brotes de bambú castañas de agua y masas de pollo bien cocinada y sazonada. A £10.20, me pareció una buena relación calidad-precio.

Este Chino ha cambiado de manos más veces de las que puedo recordar a lo largo de los años, pero esta encarnación es el peor con diferencia.

Cheap and cheerful but not great good, was edible after a long drive, only take cash and no deliveries. Didn't get what we ordered.

Cuando nos mudamos a un pueblo cercano y la falta de tiendas decidimos probar en vez de viajar al otro lado de York a nuestra antigua China.

Tuvimos nuestra primera llevar en años de aquí y qué sorpresa. Se puede elegir entre una gran así que decidimos compartir. espera de 30 minutos pero huele deliciosos procedentes de la cocina y un flujo de no parar de personas. Totalmente placentero y todavía muy caliente caliente una vez que llegamos a la casa. Sin duda volveremos pronto.

Llamamos a este restaurante el lunes por la noche, en la búsqueda de una comida mientras acampar en la zona. Mi marido fue a aparcar el coche con los niños y yo seguí ... desde mi aspecto inicial a través de la ventana, que casi se volteó a ir a otro lugar. No hay otros clientes y el restaurante en sí es bastante viejo y muy anticuado. Había una corriente constante de los clientes en la comida para llevar - este y el olor de la comida me hizo. Nos alegramos de haberlo hecho. La señora que nos servía era precioso y la comida era fabulosa. El lugar es no tener licencia, así que picotazo de la Co-op sobre la carretera a conseguir un par de botellas de cerveza. menos de £40 para un banquete para 4 ... una gran relación calidad-precio. No te dejes llevar por la shabbiness del restaurante ... prueba este lugar. La comida habla por sí mismo.

We were visiting Stamford Bridge from Glasgow. We had take away from here. Food was very good with generous portions, sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style definitely should be tried. Very quick service.

Comimos aquí regularmente, una o dos veces al mes. No tienen actualmente un bebidas licencia así que traiga su propio o comprar en la Co-op frente, sin cargo adicional por tasa por servir licor, vasos, etc ( que he probado en otros lugares). Lo llamamos la cabaña de Scout, ya que es un edificio de madera de una planta. Durante los años que han estado haciendo, nueva mesas, sillas y artefactos de iluminación, aún necesita renovación, pero nos viene por la comida, no la decoración! Hemos probado la comida china en los 2 restaurantes más cercanos en York y Hayton además varios otros cerca y preferimos mucho la calidad y la comida aquí. Se recomienda que cierran tarde del martes.

The food here is really tasty with chicken curry how it used to be & special fried rice great. Not the cheapest but worth paying for good food. All the meals we've had have always been very good - try it!

Been going to this takeaway all my life! Great tasty food with good quality meat aswell! Prepare the food really fast so never having to wait long to go and collect. Menu prices are super cheap aswell! Good variety of menu choices!
