Tasty food with a good service. Street parking is handy too.

This was a joint birthday night out. The starters were ok, 8 of us eating - 6 had the banquet options. The selection of main courses were sadly bland and tasteless the sauces all seemed watered down and the meats and prawns were also bland honestly could have been eating anything. This used to be a sure bet for a great meal. Sad. Will not be visiting again until reports improve.

Nice food, but we were sat too close to the next table and felt like we were having our meal With them, we mentioned it to the two young lads serving and they apologised, but weren’t comfortable doing it while the people were still there so spoilt the meal slightly, there was only two young lads serving, they were doing a good job, but feel like they had a lot to deal with as was also a takeaway service as well, also the ladies toilet handle was broken, feel it could do with a bit of an uplift.

Unplanned stop on a Monday evening and better than expected, never been before. Plenty of veggie & non-meat options, really nice service too.

I'm really not a Chinese food fan in England as used to live in Hong Kong as kid .. I'm British, dad was army. Food here everytime I've been has been spot on. Delicious, not greasy, plentyful. I ordered tonight and was 5 star, thought I will give them a TripAdvisor.. then looked at previous reviews.. think these reviews are malicious to a restaurant of this standard. Unfortunately people use TripAdvisor as a weapon not a positive. I recommend it and I'm also a chef.. not from here though but York .. very good and make your own decisions 👍 based on my experience a very very good Chinese restaurant

The service itself was good, however the food fell short in some areas. The chicken satay starter was very good, Thai chicken wings as a starter were also good. Secondly, the duck was reasonable for a second course, but a little dry. The main courses: the beef dish was very good. The chicken with sesonal vegetables was very bland; this was fed back and an offer made to add spices but it was too late by then. The rice was egg fried but looked nothing like any egg fried rice I have seen before, being dry, odd looking and tasteless. Overall this spoiled what could have been a good meal. Unless something changed I can't recommend this venue.

Ordered for collection. The order was wrong and only noticed when got home. Called up, very rude woman answered. Thinks she knows it all, apparently it was my fault the order was wrong, she then proceeded to hang up on me. If you want a Chinese with items you didn’t order and enjoy rude customer service this is the place for you!

Amazing chinese food everytime. Fresh, gorgeous and just amazing. You have to try it.

Awful service and no care for the customer, rice dish comes with no rice and then was told to just buy more when there wasn’t enough one person. Please stay away from this place and spend you well earned money where they would respect it and give you better value for money!! Just poor and awful value for money.

Myself and my colleague Ben had an outstanding meal in here. We found this hidden gem by pure chance (EV charger point close by) Starters were delicious and prompt. Then came the main courses and sides and it was honestly was a rare treat. We had the fillet of beef Cantonese style which came out sizzling hot and also the House special curry accompanied by spicy salt chips, thin noodles and fried rice. The service was exemplary and we will definitely be back in 6 months as our work dictates.

Excellent food and service as usual

It takes a lot for me to write such a poor review, especially when the food was spot on. Sadly, the front of house staff could barely have been worse and cost them 5 stars. We booked a last-minute table for four people after a long day at work around 8:30, and arrived 15 minutes later. Unaware and quite surprised that they close so early on a Friday (9pm!) as it usually the case to be serving until at least 10 pm for a dine in restaurant. It is understandable to internalise irritation when a booking comes so late. However, if you agree to the booking (and the customer's money), you have to present yourself professionally to your diners. I say this as someone with 20 years combined hospitality and retail experience. What we experienced can only be described as a series of micro-aggressions that were in such plain sight. It made us all very uncomfortable. We got an opening remark of "well don't take too long, we're closing soon," which if said half jokingly, I'd be happy to ignore. The subsequent behaviour, though, was impossible to ignore. From loudly huffing and tearing a sheet off the order pad when we wanted to order 2 small starters, the server returning to serve our main with her coat on, to the group on the table opposite, making it quite plain that they were waiting for us to leave and that they were with the staff. I could not praise enough the chefs food, the dim sum was superb, the main was hot, and the portions were spot on. This is the only reason not to give 1 star. This has so much potential to be a great restaurant, and I am not the first to complain here about the waiting staff. We live in Goole and really wanted this to be a restaurant to return to. Frankly, I don't know if we ever will.

After ringing ahead to ask if there was a table available we expected to be treated like any other customer. However we seemed to be nothing but an inconvenience preventing the front of house from going on a jolly with her friends at an opposing table. Even asking for starters to come separate was too much work. The younger waiters were pleasant and did their jobs well, like I say just a shame that the person in charge would rather be out with her pals than see to paying customers!!!!!

I have never in my life eaten food so terrible. Let’s just hope I’m not Ill as the food was definitely not cooked to temperature. I wouldn’t have fed it to the dog. Staff were friendly , more atmosphere at a funeral.honestly don’t go. It needs inspecting by the authorities.

Despairing of ever finding a consistently good takeaway in the area. The sides (egg fried rice and chips) were okay but the main meal was flavourless and contained a nasty sticky jelly in the sauce. The prawns were cooked nicely but the veg (pre-packed cubes of frozen potato and carrot, like a stew mix. Potato in a Chinese stir fry???) was squishy and just tasted like it had been boiled in plain water, certainly not stir-fried. An expensive plate of uneaten food!

Very average food but service is absolutely shocking. Aired ages for any orders taken. Asked to pay when popping outside between courses so we “don’t dine and dash” never been as insulted in my life. Payment up front if you have an issue with this, don’t be so rude and insulting in front of the entire restaurant! Young lad front of house needs to learn some hospitality basics. Will never return.

Excellent customer service and excellent food. Really enjoyed our night. Bare in mind my review of this place was 4 years ago. The food here used to be brilliant. Had a take away yesterday and it was horrible. Chicken and Sweetcorn Soup was thick. I mean really thick. Could stand up a Spoon in it. Hardly any King Prawns in my King Prawn and Ginger/Onion dish. Hardly any Meat in Meat dishes. Has someone else taken over this place? Because if you have, your food standards have gone right down Hill. I will not be ordering from here again until you get this place back to how it used to be like. Sorry but that meal I bought yesterday was not worth £73.....

Honestly you couldn’t find more useless staff if you tried. The lad who answers the phones got a chip on his shoulder they hardly ever get the order right, it’s a shame food is decent but honestly you’d struggle to find worse staff

Sweet and sour. Some good, some not as described (takeaway) chilly not satay with prawns.

The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful. One of the party had very specific dietary needs and nothing was too much trouble, even sieving the soup to make a broth. This was very much appreciated. The manager (the girl with blonde curly hair) was brilliant and very attentive. She was clearly very busy supporting new members of staff. We had the banquet and after the second we were all stuffed. Again, all of our food was wrapped up and we took it with us. A great experience and we will return.

Good meal with family. Friendly young staff and great manager. Very traditional Chinese restaurant fare well executed. Between us we tried a range of starters and mains. Particularly enjoyed the shredded lamb and a lovely beef dish with asparagus and baby corn. This was our second visit and won’t be our last!

Food was amazing, service wasn't bad but the young staff all but threw things down on our table from cutlery to plates of food and didn't explain what everything was maybe they were new or nervous not sure. I would still go again and also recommend as the food is amazing.

I had high expectations for this restaurant as it was recommended to me and looking at the reviews I was convinced the food was going to be great. On arrival at the restaurant we were not greeted by the staff who appeared to be all very young. After waiting for sometime at the front I approached the checkout station and only at that stage was shown to our table. There were no serviettes on the table and even when the food arrived we were not provided with any and we had to ask for some. This to me is poor form for any restaurant and set the tone for the evening. To keep it pretty brief the service was very slow, the wine I ordered was was warm and the food was less than average. The egg fried-rice to accompany the meals was the worst I’ve had . I’ve had better from a take out . In summary I wished I had stayed home and saved my £70!

Best Chinese I've had for months

Absolutely amazing. We ordered from here last night and the food was absolutely gorgeous. Really fresh and tasty, probably the nicest Chinese I have ever had. It was reasonably priced too. I can’t recommend it enough.

Went with some lovely friends from work and we chose the set menu for 10 of us which we all enjoyed. I was a great evening and the staff were very good and o hand for anything we needed. I could have made a meal aloe from the starter as that is my favourite course at chinese and this one didn't disappoint. would recommend.

Listed as opening Sunday Lunch, was not open, they need to make sure any Internet information is up to date, looks like it had not been open on a Sunday lunch for a while

The food was excellent and served by brilliant young staff. We were made extremely welcome on arrival, and the choice from the menu was more than sufficient ,you just couldn’t fault it.

Have been several times with family and friends, and vegans can find tasty food. I took my elderly parents their on Saturday as a treat, my dad order Beef Curry and was pleased with the dish. Mom ordered one of the new dishes, Duck with Fried Rice but found rather too much fat to her liking. I had the Vegan mixed vegetable with bean curd and boiled rice; made with a variety of fresh vegetables which was tasty. The problem was not so much the food, but the service. We ordered two bottles of Tiger Beer one with Lime in the glass; we were delivered a Thai Beer instead, when we queried the young waitress looked at her order pad and said "No that's what you ordered" .....! I appreciate that the bottled beer provided in the restaurant is quite expensive, but a little more table courtesy would have been appreciate. On observation, some of the young waiting staff were very good indeed - perhaps just a little reminder of basic table skills would be appropriate.

Went for a Chinese with some friends. I had been previously but didn't rate it. I actually thought it was really poor.. however inwas told new owners.. " BINGO " fantastic food, fresh and authentic.. keep up the good work..we will be back..

Just returned from here. Had a meal for my parents anniversary. The restaurant was clean and well presented. The 2 young waiters were so polite and amazing at their job. They were happy to help and were fast and very professional. We opted for one of the banquet options and it didn’t disappoint. The food was so fresh and tasty. I will definitely be returning.

The food we ordered was amazing as usual and the staff were attentive. Nothing to fault, but the Chinese boy I guess who was in charge on the front of the house wasn’t as nice as he seems. Always running up and down like a bloody maniac, and slamming things making a peaceful meal into such racket. He was also shouting at the young staff, which I could see they weren’t doing anything wrong. Better management is needed! Will return next time, hopefully there will be a change!

Really enjoyed the food, very tasty and a very nice menu. Service was good and very friendly staff. Food prices very good for a night out. What spoilt it for me was the price of the lager, almost equivalent of £ 7.00 a pint, that's £ 3.50 for a 330ml bottle of lager that you can get through a supermarket (retail) for less than half that price.. A bit of a rip off I feel. I did challenge this but was informed they don't have beer pumps - missed the point really. Its not London after all!!!

Upon entering this restaurant we were confronted by 4 very young people. 1 boy and three giggly girls. After about 5 mins the nervous young boy came and asked if we were ready to order? I asked about drinks first. He went back to the bar and returned with a pad. We ordered drinks but it took ages to arrive and the selection was very limited. No draught beer or lagers available. I asked if we could have some prawn crackers which took about 10 minutes to arrive with no dipping sauce. We eventually ordered our food. After about 20 minutes the starters arrived with the menus still on the lazy Susan. We had to ask for them to be removed. The whole evening was very amateurish . When the mains arrived, bearing in mind we ordered 7 £25 banquets, there was only 4 main dishes. Although the food was nice but short in order the service was very bad and again amateurish. There were no adults serving and it looked like a young man was the chef. By 9-30 ours was the only table occupied , for a Friday night that told me lots. I do believe this place could do well with some proper experienced staff and chefs. Attention to detail is muchly lacking. Our spend was £288 for 8 of us. I do not consider this good value. We arrive for a 70th birthday party booked for a table of 12. We had to ask 3 times if we could give a drinks order before someone finally came over, then they got it wrong and missed 3 drinks off twice.Trying to keep it simple we ordered the banquet for everyone, what a joke, it took over a hr from ordering to get us to the 2nd course, which they brought out in stages, cucumber, wraps, and the duck 15 mins later.!!At this point everyone had had enough waiting around, chasing the foods 3 times to just been told "its coming" when clearly it wasn't. 2 hrs in and main meals arrive, everyone's pretty annoyed at this point due to the lack of service and not 1 manager came over to explain any issues, its run by children with no customer service skills what-so ever. Not one apology for keeping us waiting, bowls dirty every time they brought them out, wrong drinks etc.An absolute shambles, made even worse by the £255 bill at the end which no one wanted to pay.

Food was pleasant enough, service not great. Would possibly give it another go to see if this was an exception rather than the norm.

After looking at the previous reviews and the 3 star food hygiene sticker we wasn’t sure but we gave it a try and we both glad we did. The service and food was brilliant and we couldn’t fault anything

We have been going to this reatuarant for many years.

Just changed management ,which is always a worry, as my husband and I loved the food and previous manager,but we went along to make our own judgement.We were not disappointed.Staff are lively and the food as good as ever ... probably because the Chef now owns the place . Phew, still got a great Chinese restaurant to go to .

Service was amazing, waiters couldn’t have been more attentive however there weren’t many people in when we visited. Food was lovely and they packaged up what we didn’t eat to take home. Parking isn’t always the best as there is no car park and it can get busy in the square.

This has to be the nicest place I’ve tried. All staff are happy and quick service, unlike before when I visited with my family quite a while back! It has improved and improvements can be seen made e.g the new bar and new floors (looks a lot better)! I’m glad the weird manager has left!! We used to get told by my friend who works there that he says inappropriate words when he sees us walk past, weirdo! But glad it’s changed! Definitely give it a try anyone who hasn’t. I will definitely come back!

Was really looking forward to a night out with my husband. Was shown to our table staff get bobbing about around us. 35minutes later still no one had come to us. Went to the reception they had forgot about us. The chap who was on front of house needs to get more training. No doubt the food would have been nice if we had stayed. Ended up going to a fish and chip shop (minster fish shop )and it was lovely

After chinese locally went downhill and trying others in the area this is by far the best chinese the quality of the food is exceptionally good and beautiful authentic delicate flavours. Will definitely be our new chinese take out

Warm welcome, spacious place!.. great food.. friendly and polite waiting staff, parking just outside, would highly recommend also the prices are fab for the food I received! Will be returning

We dined at The Golden Cottage on a sunny Saturday evening with friends who live local to the area. We hadn’t booked but were able to get an 8pm table. We ordered the mixed platter to share between four for starters which was prawn toast, spare ribs, spring rolls and salt and pepper chicken. All were really nice and well presented. I would say though that at £7 per person it was quite expensive for what you got. Mains were good and well priced. Two fillet steak steak dishes at about £13, a kung po chicken and a crispy beef shared with two portions of fried rice. Us girls shared a bottle of prosecco which was good at £21 and the boys had a couple of ciders each. The bill for four came to £113 which was more than reasonable. Service was a little slow but that didn’t bother us as we were in no rush. It’s a nice little place in a lovely village.

Visited after long car journey from Wales. Chose from lunch menu roughly costing £10 a head (served 12 until 2) weekdays.

Great food very good service and good sized portions. Went with friends last night and again with my son tonight both nights the food was lovely . My only complaint was they wouldn't take a voucher we had won from a charity bingo as it was issued before may and now new managers . Still the same company I thought ? But defiantly recommend the food and service

Really good, fantastic food and new drinks!! Visited here as we heard it was under new management. We came here a few times before it was under New Management but it was really awful. The manager if I remember was called seng, he was too gobby and had bad personality, he spoke to the point that we wanted to leave (peaceful meal finally!!) we will be coming here more often!! :)

One of our VEGETARIAN takeaway orders had chicken in it! Unfortunately my partner only noticed this after he had eaten half of it! He has not eaten meat for 30 years

Heard this was under new management. My family had come over from Oz so this night decided to get a takeaway from here. Ordered on the phone. Picked up with no problems. All the food was lovely. My daughter said the prawn satay was very good. Special fried rice really nice

An early tea, mid-week, table for 4. The place was not busy but service was a bit hit and miss. We ordered crispy duck and chicken yuk sung to share between us. Only 6 pancakes were served with the duck, so we asked for another 2, as there was plenty of duck. The reply was that they come in packs of 6, so not possible! Not an acceptable answer...

Good food and service but still expensive. This place is now owned by the chef, Please support them to help him succeed and keep the only Chinese restaurant for miles alive !!

We had been meaning to go to this place for a number of years. It is smack in the centre of Howden on the corner and you can't miss it.
