Stag & Pheasant in Carmarthenshire

We would like to say a massive thanks to Martin leadbetter for buying us a bottle of champagne 🍾 for our 44th wedding anniversary when we were having a drink in the stag and pheasant. Really appreciate it, lovely pub, great music. Thanks again, Martin. You are amazing 👏and Rachel the barmaid, awesome people ❤️

Good place to stay in Carmarthen. Keenly priced with clean, modern and good sized rooms. Good bar with friendly staff. I ate here as well and the meal was above average for price asked. Recommended

Best pub in Carmarthen. My husband and I and my dog Bear visit often and we always get a walm welcome. Has a great outdoor space at the back too.

Waitress advised that they do not serve food and gave directions to another restaurant.

Very pleasant pub ,great atmosphere and the service was lovely. Very impressed with the toilets. Good value for money.

I stopped in here midweek after a delay to my train and boy did I strike it lucky. The guest ales were delicious, the staff were super friendly and the landlords are very welcoming. Can't wait to go back to sample new guest ales and try the beer garden. I didn't have any food on this visit.

I am absolutely disgusted by the way you have treated people yesterday evening,after agreeing to our request and letting 70 people or more into your place you let everyone buy a drink and nibbles and ask us to leave,big mistake on treating your locals,your bread and butter,you turned it into a circus about politics,for shame on you and more to the point for shame on the girl for saying lies,disgusting place with disgusting attitudes

We have had yet another weekend at the stag and pheasant .we were made very welcome by Tracy and Phil and all the locals we laughed all the time the atmoy here is loverly.

A few drinks with the 6 nations. Warm welcome, great selection of drinks and big screens. We'll be back and dog friendly.

Why this place encourage people to bring there dogs here when the 3 the landlady has running around is more than enough. The real ale has gone up in price and it's not all that clever. Hopefully The Queen's will reopen soon and we can go back there.

This is a pleasant pub offering a warm welcome and a reasonable choice of drinks. I enjoyed the Ringwoods on our visit and there was a relaxed atmosphere. The pub is clean and nice for a quick break.

Honestly in all the years I have been drinking in pubs I have never trodden in dog mess inside a pub,that was until I had a pint here.Why are so many dogs running wild in this pub?The beer was ok but the dogs have put me off.

This has been a top pub in recent years sadly no longer rude scottish bar man who loves himself dogs everywhere dog mess in beer garden and the smell of dogs when entering.Ale is hit or miss.

Best pub in carmarthen, best landlady and best locals. Great beer garden and nice to see its dog friendly. Some of the comments about dogs are bit harsh and those people are obviously stuck up and don't know the meaning of what a local pub is supposed to be like

Called for a drink and had several dogs jumping up at me the pub smells of dogs and there is dog mess in the beer garden.I am not going back.

Just up the road from where we were staying, so we called it the local! What a friendly place. Very nicely decorated, lovely beer garden. We had our dog with us and she loved being spoiled.

I found the owners and staff to be really hospitable.The service was excellent and if I ever find myself in the area again I will definitely stop in for a pint.Highly recommended!!

Random night out but martin and Joe was very welcoming and made us very welcome. We was there till 1am and very good shout out to my new butty nic who was very hospitable and made us very welcome would recommend to any1 who wants a quiet social pint with great company.

If you like a nice, relaxing atmosphere with good tasting real ales, then this is the place to go. It's also very clean and has service with a smile. It has the added advantage of being dog friendly and having a large beer garden.

Came here last week, and found out there were new owners, had a good laugh with the new bar maid Jo, I think that was her name. Pint of Carlesberg was only £2.60

Again no real ale on.When they do decide to put ale on its usually Hobgoblin or 49er which is no better that Worthington Some scruff at the bar talking rubbish dressed in orange work gear got on my nerves.apart from that it’s not a bad place if you like Carling.

Met one of the locals. What a character. Told us there were plenty of fluff in the town. The mrs appreciated the local knowledge of this. Especially when he told us his latest conquest struggled to walk for a few days after hed banged the guts out of her.... nice lad in his 40s... she was late 60s by all accounts. Defo worth a visit.

Ended off our night swell thanks to Mia. Had our last pint and some fun on our night out. Can't attest to the food, but the customer care is top notch.

Shocked at the way a certain member of staff talked to us. Very disappointing as it is such a nice pub inside.

We recently visited this pub quite late in the evening and were really impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the customers. We were serenaded by the locals giving a taste of real Welsh choral skills.

Visited the premises on a Friday evening, lady behind the bar clearly not interesting in her job and was rude to me and several guests despite us all not causing a fuss and quietly sitting in the corner, would not visit again

Friendly atmosphere and a nice pint

My second visit to this pub. The first time I went the landlord/lady were new to the pub, and they had not sorted out the kitchen opening yet. Pub was dead apart from about 5 people in, 2 of us watching the game. The pub has BT Sports, which must cost them a bit. I decided to pop in for something to eat and to watch the rugby on tv. It's Friday night about 7:25pm, Iorder a pint and ask if they are serving food. Reply, "We've stopped. Kitchen closed 5 minutes ago." Unbelievable. Food stopped before 7:30pm again on a Friday night. So I have couple of packs of hula hoops and settle down to watch the game.25 minutes in to the game, there are about 10 people in the bar, of which 4-6 are watching the game. No sound on the tv, as they are playing music every few minutes. The landlady has now taken over serving at the bar and the landlord has disappeared.Well when I said the landlady is serving, I meant to say, that is what a good landlady would do. But no she's at the bar reading her smartphone and talking to the 3 obvious regulars. I decide to go up and order another pint. I'm in clear view of her and no reaction. I then say "Any chance of a pint?" The pubs not noisy, but I still get no reaction. I give it another 30 seconds and then leave and go to another pub in town showing the game, who not only serve you (and they were busy!) but also have food available until 9pm.I know where I will be going in future and it won't be the Stag and Pheasant. My message to the landlord/lady is "You aren't going to survive on only being interested in your 3 or 4 regulars".

Came to the Stag and Pheasant on Sunday, for a drink with my Wife, lovely pint, the owners were very friendly, polite and helpful. There was a nice crowd in there and the owners were having a good laugh with them. I will come here again as haven't been here for a good few years and really enjoyed.

Slipped down a little gap between the main shops in town to find his little place. Lovely and clean. Attentive and polite staff. Willing to accommodate our awkward food order request. Was very busy and no issues with waiting times at all. Had two rounds of drinks and two courses for 4 people and we were welcomed with our new born in a pram. Fantastic quality value for money food all round and we had a good variety between us all. Really enjoyed our visit and feed here without breaking the bank. Clean plates all round. Deffo worth a lunchtime visit over a cafe any day. Thanks!!!

I am not a regular in this place but have always been made to feel at home when ever I call in for a drink.

This is a lively little pub in the centre of Carmathen. The staff are very friendly and welcoming . Can be a little noisy on a Saturday night, but we found it entertaining and would recommend it as well worth a visit.

Very welcoming staff also allowing us to bring our dogs in .nice atmosphere very clean & great service .

Lovely afternoon spent in a traditional pub. Clean with a great selection of drinks at very resonable prices. The Landlord was welcoming and hospitable. A definate must for those visiting Carmarthen.

Loved this pub from the moment I walked in. Extremely friendly staff made a stranger like me with a very English accent feel very welcome indeed. This goes for its punters too. Genuine Welsh friendliness all round! There is plenty comfortable seating if you don’t feel like standing drinking at the bar and there are also two large tv screens that are there especially for when Wales are beating England!

As a pub it’s a nice place to go for a pint,but as a real ale drinker and camra member I am disappointed with the fact they have 4 real ale pumps with 4 lovely beers being shown on the front of the pumps but 3 of them are always “conditioning in the cellar “so you only have one ale to choose from at the end of the day usually bland fourtyniner.

What a friendly local, welcoming and good value. Not your chain pub but it’s me we’re locals go to chat, gossip, watch sporting events and join in the pub stuff that’s fast disappearing like darts and the odd quiz night.

Nice boozer, good atmosphere, no food. Small ale selection.

Ser un fumador es precioso para sentarse afuera en el jardín muy cuidado y en invierno bajo cubierta con calentadores para mayor comodidad. Un lugar fantástico para pasar el día.

Cuando por una pinta tranquilo y casi entramos de vuelta. Había un equipo de rugby en tener bebidas. La camarera parecía estar más interesado en servir al equipo y la gente que sirve un turista.

I was staying at the Spilman hotel, next door, so thought I would try this pub as it has always seemed closed on my previous visits to Carmarthen. I am really glad I did. The landlord was friendly and the locals were chatty. There was...

Friendly staff, made you feel at home, very clean and great service.Food was excellent, got exactly what you asked for. Food was all freshly prepared and portions were a good size. we have stayed here 4 times now and wouldnt go anywhere else in the area as such great value for money.

A wonderful day and night was had by all. We started and finished off the night in the Stag. Great atmosphere which made our get together even more special.

We were in Carmarthen overnight and after a long journey by rail from Hampshire on my part, I was in need of a drink and a chance to relax. The pub was right next-door to the Spilman Hotel, at which we were staying and so could not have been more convenient.The bar is L-shaped, with a dart board at each end although during our visit, only one was being used. The first observation was that the music was a bit loud, especially for a late afternoon, but the volume did reduce after a while.There was a good choice of beers on handpump and served up in excellent condition. I had a pint of 49er from Ringwood and it proved a good choice. I had a couple. At just under £3 a pint it was reasonable value.Can't comment on food as didn't have any there but for decent beer in pleasant surroundings, you could do a lot worse.

Not the place to go for a quiet drink but if you like loud music, crowded pubs and reasonably priced beer then this is the place for you!!

I only came here for a couple of pints but they had a good selection of real ales that were well kept. They let you know what beers are coming on next - guest beers that is!They have a nice outdoor terrace area.

We had been walking our dogs in the beautiful Golden Grove Country Park and were hungry and a bit lost when we passed this roadside pub.It didn't look particularly appealing but alternatives were few and far between!You enter through the bar which is fitted out in a traditional style, the restaurant is at the rear, it's a long narrow room with a large bright conservatory at the far end.The decor is neutral and there are some strange pictures on the wall of photographs of liquorice all sorts! But it's very clean, the tables were nicely set and the waitress was very friendly.They were serving Sunday lunch, choice of beef, Turkey, lamb or gammon or a mixture of desired?To start my husband ordered soup, unusually there were three choices, vegetable, leek and potato or cock a leekie. He chose leek and potato and said it was some of the best he'd ever tasted. I chose pate which was home made, served with salad, chutney and hot toast, it was also delicious.For mains I chose beef, my husband a mixture. Huge plates, roast potatoes and parsnips, mash, huge Yorkshire puddings and five veg including cauliflower and broccoli cheese- everything was fantastic, red hot, there was even a gravy boat with extra gravy and a good portion of meat.We declined dessert and the waitress's face fell! "No pudding...... And you looked like a trifle man to me!" ( which he is with a vengeance) "oh well if there's trifle?" I still intended to decline ........ but then she mentioned Banoffie Tart!!!The puddings were wonderful, rich creamy and delicious.We refused coffee as we simply didn't have room and asked for the bill. The wonderful waitress who had looked after us and all other customers so well- greeting everyone cheerfully and many of them by name, checked the bill before handing it over, said "that seems a lot!" Then remembered we had two rounds of drinks!The total bill for three courses and two rounds of soft drinks for two........... £23.00!!!!!!!!We both said "how much" £10.99 for a three course Sunday lunch - we wouldn't have quibbled at £23 per head it was that good!!Fantastic food, fantastic staff and an unbelievable price. It's off the beaten track but well worth a visit.

Was working away with work and come across this Pub, can really recommend it. It's not just a pub for Locals and does good beer.

Staying locally we popped in for a nightcap after eating at a local restaurant. We usually visit here when in Carmarthen but had not for a while. It certainly has changed and must have changed hands. Busier with very loud music and locals enjoying a lively Saturday night. Did not eat on this occasion but would have to hope that it is a quiter venue when serving meals. Polite service.

Enjoyed a lovely home cooked lunch here.....great choice of vegetables, served separately, along with good portions of our chosen meat and the best gravy ever.....!!The service was friendly & nothing was too much trouble, and all served in comfortable dining room, excellent value for money!!

4 adult 7 children popped in towards end of lunch time more then happy to accomadate us, children meals are fanatsic and proper food no reformed crap, the owners were very friendly give children coloring books and colours and toys to play with so adults got to enjoy they food, adults had steaks and proper home made chips, home made onion rings and salad , all the food was wow and brilliant value for money, been here two times so far and will be coming back very soon.the owners made the place very welcoming and open to us....

Today ten of us popped in for some lunch and were immediately given a warm welcome. We all had the mixed Sunday carvery which was not only a bargain at £7.50 but freshly made, lots of choice of meat and veg and absolutely delicious! The owners were lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.Charlie

One of Carmarthen's better pubs. A selection of real ale is failrly reliable. Good quality typical pub food, I particularly like the cawl (Welsh broth) at lunchtime.As well as the clean, airy bar there is a pleasant outdoor seating area beind the pub.
